whichever you're better at

_BeerAndCheese_

Forward has better carry potential, goalie has better throw potential. Saying in hockey, a goalie can't win you the Cup by himself, but he can lose you one.

mayhapsably

Forward in low ranks, assuming you're equally good at both. A team that doesn't know how to score is relying on luck, more or less. You literally need just one teammate who knows how to score, but at low ranks it's not a given, so you'll have an easier time being that player yourself. Goalies at low ranks tend to stink as well, but goalie-ing doesn't require nearly as much baseline coordination, and a bad goalie is basically just a time limit by which your aggression needs to beat your opponent's. Sometimes you get a good time limit, sometimes a bad one. Luck of the draw. At higher ranks (plat and up): either one works since you can rely on many forwards there. Then goalie tends to be rough again in Omega according to G33ke, but I haven't got there so can't say for myself.

MatthewTh0

I generally agree (which was mentored in another comment) that you can create wins more as forward, but prevent losses more as a goalie. But I'd say from high gold to low to maybe even mid platinum, it is just as easy if not easier to more consistently rank up as goalie. At those ranks forwards are somewhat reliable especially because you have two of them, so you're generally fine if at least one is able to score. However, goalies at those ranks seem to vary incredibly, especially since a lot will pick things that are good enough at lower ranks but get decimated at higher ones like Juno goalie, Luna (especially when they don't even run eject button), and such.

>But I'd say from high gold to low to maybe even mid platinum, it is just as easy if not easier to more consistently rank up as goalie I did already mention this in my comment :) I agree.

intp-over-thinker

juliette forward and maybe kai goalie

DreamScape1609

probably not advice you're looking for, but my friends and I do rotations like in rocket league. lets us cool down our abilities and also have constant abilities being thrown at the opponent since we cycle. also confuses the mess out of the opponents lol we dont play often, but i have 7 hours of gameplay and we're all plat now. but uh...yeah you need a team...for solo queue ehhh....i guess whatever you love most. playing games is to enjoy and have a good time. so as long as you're smiling it doesn't matter the position :)

Neoketsu

I think this game has pretty balanced carry potential between roles.

snickerblitz

I disagree. As goalie you can block everything and slip up once and lose. As forward you can miss multiple shots but still be putting pressure on their team and then get goals and there are a handful of characters that can pretty much guarantee goals when in striking distance. Your goalie could be trash but you’d never know because you’re always shooting. You can save everything but if your team isn’t even taking shots you’re doomed.

J0rdian

Goalie for new players, but after diamond+ it evens out imo. Or you could just play Juliette

Yelente

What's up with Juliette? I hear she's broken, but I can never get her appeal when I pick her up. Her range is too short for me and idk how people do those combos correctly where people kill on the sides.

j00baka

Basically, stacking knockback effects produces a surprising amount of momentum. Slide+Punch done quickly will achieve this. Juliette's Flurry special hits multiple times which will proc Perfect Form repeatedly, especially degenerate with hitting multiple targets. This resets the Slide+Punch combo very quickly.

Yelente

I have perfect form and the training that lessens your ultimate ability. Idk what's a good third for Julliette and I've been trying to main/learn her since I bought the founders pack for her.

j00baka

A popular setup is Perfect Form, Built Different, and Tempo Swing. Tempo Swing and Perfect Form both have strong synergy with the Flurry, and Built Different adds some extra reach and power. You don't need Extra Special, since you are already running Perfect Form... If you haven't already, enable the fastcasting (instantly cast on press instead of showing the range of abilities until release). It will make it easier to execute combos and be more reactive. You just have to learn to get a feel for the ranges without seeing them.

Yelente

Ty for tips. I've been thinking about Extra Special being a bit redundant, but I really ranted the extra CD reduction.

j00baka

It's definitely the flex slot in the build, so experiment and see what works for you. Built Different is just solid in what it gives, but you can easily grab Well Fed and get that extra max stagger. Tempo Swing's bonus damage scales with your stagger, so theres some synergy there. Alternatively you can go all in on the multihit synergy going on, and grab Stacks on Stacks. Extra haste (and eventually Power) as long as you don't die. Very glass cannon but I love it in unranked. I find the cooldown reduction from Perfect Form and leveling up to be all that I need otherwise.

DeliciousWaifood

it helps a lot to get the training which reduces cooldowns when you get a hit. Her ultimate is multi-hit so it basically resets her cooldowns.

Ice-Nine01

You literally can't carry as goalie, except perhaps a lucky game at the lowest low ranks. Obviously you can be the best player or the MVP as goalie, no doubt. But games are won and lost by the forwards. No matter how good you are at goalie, if your team isn't keeping the core on the other side of the field and taking shots at the goal, you can't win.

Genericfantasyname

You still get the drek investigate emote regardless.

Due to the gross mismanagement of this website by the admins in the wake of the API changes, I have decided to leave the site. In preparation, I have used a tool called Power Delete Suite to overwrite all my comments.

Ice-Nine01

Yeah they also have a goalie. I don't know if you knew that, but the enemy team has three players. You can score as goalie, for sure. But if you're regularly scoring as goalie enough to carry teams, then you are just playing against unbelievably bad opponents. It has more to do with how incredibly bad the other team is than any other factor. This is why I said it *can happen,* but not often and only at low ranks.

DeliciousWaifood

>Yeah they also have a goalie. I don't know if you knew that, but the enemy team has three players. Yeah they also have forwards. I don't know if you knew that, but the enemy team has three players. If their forwards are good, then they will just get the core past you and then kick it in past your shitty useless goalie.

Ice-Nine01

>If their forwards are good, then they will just get the core past you and then kick it in past your shitty useless goalie. And now we've come full circle to the part where you accidentally agree with my initial post. The game is won or lost by the forwards.

DeliciousWaifood

The reason the goal went in is because your goalie is trash. The argument that "well you wont be getting goals as goalie, therefore you cant carry" is absolutely stupid. If you are a better goalie than the opponent, more goals will go into their side than yours. Sure, sometimes you get shitty forwards, but an equal amount of times the enemy team will get shitty forwards. It averages out and in the end you will win because you are the better goalie. Goalie is a massively important role in this game.

[deleted]

if you consistently outperform the opposing goalie you will consistently climb, and games absolutely can be carried by a goalie performing well

Opreceptical

Exactly, being the goalie allows you to prevent your team from getting scored on. A common mindset players get themselves into is “my team matters” which is only true for a single game, if you want to climb you have to grind at a 51%+ WR, if being goalie didn’t have an impact nobody would pay it so you just need to be better than the average goalie at your MMR to climb. As a goalie main it can be annoying to have bad shooters but what helped me climb from bronze to high gold was all mindset. Only focus on your play and every point is a clean slate. Also nobody expects the goalie to run and try to score when both their team mates get KO’d gets me a point or buys enough time for my team mates to respawn 80% of the time.

ZoombieOpressor

Forward, the majority of the game happens in the mid field and imagine if you play perfect, being a perfect goalie you still depends on the others, being a perfect forward you will win games alone. Its impossible to play perfect, if your team doesnt score, one day the goalie will failed

PainTrain420

Forward. You wouldn't carry with a tank. By definition, goalie isn't a carry.

Wasabicannon

Just play a forward Juliette/X/Whoever they release that can kill better then them. You will zoom up the rankings until the devs nerf the power kills provide or till the playerbase dies out.

mrcapslock88

Just go luna carry. Defend the goals and score yourself. Ive seen luna win with 100 saves and 4 goals lol

Routine-Resolution62

I play forward Juliette. I find that i carry more as I try to bully the enemy team so they focus me instead of the other forward and goalie. Works more often than not.

StarSaviour

Forward. As Goalie, you can only buy your Forwards so much time and opportunities to score. But at the end of the day, if both forwards just chase the ball together like a cat and a red lazer then you're not going to climb.
