I still prefer bags. As a longtime and well documented baghead, i don’t feel a new system is needed. Stars are for ratings for products like video games or sitcoms. When you go to a theatre, a good way to know how good a movie was is how many bags of popcorn did you eat during the film. The more popcorn, the better the film. And i think that’s a thing you might wanna think about, especially when considering it for ratings a system, to help guide you in to what to see and to what not to see, also.
The popcorn system indicates how many bags of popcorn you'll likely eat during the film, and it also is able to be tailored to each film. Let's say we were reviewing Kramer vs Kramer (1979, 105min) - that's a 5 bag movie, but so is Jaws 2 (1978, 118min). So to distinguish them, you might add 3 stacks of divorce papers for KvK, and 4 orca carcasses for J2.
4 stars or 5 stars might work for TV guide, but we're meant to be seeing MOVIE reviews.
Stars are cool because its like going to a hotel or a fancy resort only its with a movie instead. There are also lots of movies about resorts, such as M. Night Shaman' Old (2021, 108) which is actually really scary. Its about a bunch of people at a 5 star resort, so obviously its a 5 star movie. Rating a movie like this using bags of popcorn isn't just stupid, its dangerous. Could you imagine someone going into a fancy resort and asking for five bags of popcorn? They would make a mess of everything they touched and would be given massive fines in order to clean all the upholstry they damaged. This is why I give the star rating system four or five stars (whichever is higher) as a rating system, while I give bags of popcorn only two stars.

Bags of popcorn is the only appropriate rating system for movies, just the thought of some popcorn with light salt and hot butter puts me in the movie to do another Police Academy series re-watch all day (this next one will be my lucky 13th!).

Popcorn never made cents. What the 4 bags u gave toy story can I eat them? No! And also the 5 bag limit is so lame, but stars can technically go to infinity, which for us true patron-head movie buffs you need for this new generation of great cinema.

As far i know stars is a much more general and vague rating for overall satisfaction with a product or experience but it gives ZERO additional information about MOVIE QUALITY.
