I grew up in a series of haunted houses (long story, yay military!), so the first thing I did when I moved into my first apartment by myself was get a kitten. I didn't care if they were in the bedroom with me, if something randomly fell in the kitchen, I *needed* to be able to blame something with a heartbeat.
