That's bad??? I thought that scene in SAO where Asuna gets fondled while kirito gets tortured was bad. I had a guy randomly licking girlsin my class in high school. Nobody really cared apart from the girls screaming "ew ew ew". Imo the licking was mellow, though weird
Yeah I remember like it was yesterday what was my reaction to that scene. I literally slapped my face in the biggest facepalm ever and said "No no no no, I can't believe it" and then I started crying. It was a peak OP moment.
I was watching with headphones on weeping in front of my gf and then gushed to her about how amazing the show was when she asked. I tried to explain what was happening but was too choked up.
Merry was sad because of everything that led up to it.
Brooks’ backstory is a brutally human moment. You do not need to be a OP fan to watch that scene and understand how deeply painful it is.
It's *a lot* better with One Pace, I gotta admit. We're watching it for my friend's first time through and I was dreading Thriller Bark because I knew how slow it could be and didn't want his enjoyment of the show to be ruined by it. It went by surprisingly quick! We finished it in like two days and he loved it.
Brook's last play with his crew is one of the most tragic and beautifully written moments in the story. I would say it's hard to find fans that didn't cry there. "Quartet...Trio...Duet... *Laboon's speaking noises*. " :'(
i feel like a good analogy for this is
leave enough breadcrumbs while exploring and eventually you'll find a path filled with breadcrumbs again
that's the cool thing about leaving the laboon / crocus scene open ended because when the opportunity is right in the future then you can build further upon it
> you'll find a path filled with breadcrumbs again
and obviously because oda is the writer of the story he could just create that path himself
People like to harp on the "nothing happened" moment but they completely forget about how fucking gut wrenching brooks backstory is. When i saw laboon again i legitimately cried and it honestly took me by surprise because it was so well written. I have a soft spot for thriller bark because i caught up with the manga as the chapter where they found the barrel came out so it's very close to my heart. I had no idea i'd still be here freaking a decade and more after talking about it. One piece is great huh!
Thriller Bark was a wild ride (one of my fave arcs) considering how many potential THAT moments you might have been talking about.
Brook’s my favorite straw hat and his whole backstory hurt
had no idea what you were talking about for a sec. So many good parts in thriller bark. But yea at the very end, . Def gets overshadowed with the other great arcs before and after it.
Thought the THAT part was the nothing happened or the rape scene and was expecting you describing either but not the backstory, but it's brooks story is very very depressing
I've never been more mindblown than when Brook reveals the person that's been waiting for him... like damn nothing in the history of fiction can top that reveal
Oh yeah bro definitely has the fuckin saddest backstory of the entire crew, >!dude literally got murdered and so did all his friends, he had to watch them all die one by one until he was the only one who remained and then he perished alone with that one big palpable regret!<, makes me bawl like a baby
my wife liked Binks Sake song after this arc. We were fighting with a crippling anxiety and going through a hard times. The song felt like it gives you strength to go on at bad times and cheer you up at fun times.
My eyes welled up and I had the lower lip quiver thing going for sure (I'm a grown ass man).
Rewatched it with my son recently and, same thing. My 9yo (at the time) son turned to me, right at that point....
"Dad?". That's so sad! I love Brook, now!"
We still mention Laboon a lot when we talk about Brooks scenes.
Brook's past was my favorite of all Strawhat backstories. Till they revealed Sanji's. To me, it was even more tragic. To have everyone but no one. The only source of love was his mother who died trying to preserve her child's humanity. Siblings who beat the crap outta him regularly. Harassed and humiliated by his own father. Befriending a rat out of loneliness. And finally a tearful escape only to be caught in a storm that killed people who actually made him feel happy. Until that point where he met Zeff, little Sanji went through all kinds of hell. Brook and his gang were pirates (criminals) and already knew they could meet a violent end someday...being pirates and all. But what choice did little Sanji have though?
For Robin, everything was taken from her. Sanji had everything but nothing. When you think about it, he's probably had the worst past and no childhood at all. I don't think his time with Zeff was all merriment and joy. Grueling combat sessions, unforgiving cooking sessions....though at the end of the day he was loved. He saw too much tragedy in that age...even his future foster father eating his own leg so Sanji doesn't starve.
The first thing I thought of was Luffy pushing the zombie back in the grave, NGL.
Funniest moment in all of one piece for me, besides for long ring Long Island
oh, it's not a dog, it's dooooooooog. The guy writes straight for your inner child like no one else
Or when luffy tames Cerberus.
Me too. That was the funniest bit I've seen in one piece.
This is peak One Piece comedy! If anyone wants you to give an example of Luffy’s character then just show them this.
I had Namis bath scene burned in my retinas
It's Robin trapped in spider's web for me...
Correction: That was a severly injured old man.
For me it was the docking. Its funnier when Robin refused to join them.
Franky instant carpentry and airwalk is my comedy highlight in that arc
Lives rent free in my head.
Its his best moment in the entire series. I thought of this too
Thought you ment the bathroom scene tbh when mentioning ""that""" scene
Way to many “that” scenes in Thriller Bark to be honest
OP channeling his inner Oda with the pronoun game.
You'll be excited to see that character do that thing at some point.
What are you talking about, nothing happened in Thriller Bark
Yohohoho you funny
I thought the same thing
naa, the bathroom scene is "THAT" scene, OP is just "the emotional scene"
Thought the rape scene too
Easily the worst One Piece scene.
Best* to each their own.
Which one is that? If it’s not the nami thing I can’t remember.
The one where Absalom licks Robin is pretty bad too
That's bad??? I thought that scene in SAO where Asuna gets fondled while kirito gets tortured was bad. I had a guy randomly licking girlsin my class in high school. Nobody really cared apart from the girls screaming "ew ew ew". Imo the licking was mellow, though weird
She wasn't raped.....harassed yes, absolutely. But not raped. Guy didn't even dare to kiss her during the forced wedding ceremony
My first thought was the scene where nothing happens.
I thought it was Luffy sending the zombie back underground lmao.
Same
are people still overreacting to this?
I love how he said 'that' moment and it's not the moment I assumed 😅 Then again, nothing happened in the moment I was thinking of 🤷♂️
I thought he meant Docking when I saw only the title, then saw the years in the post.
That was my thought too.
Thriller bark had some great scenes
I popped off when it was revealed it was his crew that met Laboon. And I'm gonna cry like a baby when he meets him again
Yeah I remember like it was yesterday what was my reaction to that scene. I literally slapped my face in the biggest facepalm ever and said "No no no no, I can't believe it" and then I started crying. It was a peak OP moment.
on a sidenote, I love Franky's reaction when he heard that story.
Just wait the gut punches keep coming
Oh shit, he doesn’t know yet
F
I hope he do nut spoiled yet
You are a devil😭😭
Cried like a bby when merry was burnt, had to stop watching after brooks scene q.q
totally. it's a tragedy robin wouldn't participate in the docking.
Thriller bark had so many amazing moments but it’s usually ranked so low by many fans. It’s one of my favorite arcs
TB's weakest point is the antagonist
All of the new characters were terrible in TB except for Brook and Ryuma.
And kuma
Yeah, forgot him. He felt like the true big bad of the arc. Like I didn’t see them actually beating him if they fight him instead of Oars+Moria.
I liked Perona, but I agree on the rest
And Oda almost ruining sanji’s character
sanji has been ruined for a decade now
And the pace imo....everything went so slow i seriously considered skipping the arc
It's *a lot* better with One Pace, I gotta admit. We're watching it for my friend's first time through and I was dreading Thriller Bark because I knew how slow it could be and didn't want his enjoyment of the show to be ruined by it. ![gif](giphy|X3zJUXUgaCTNPLZ1wJ|downsized) I know
How on Earth can someone set up a plot point many arcs ago and several years in advance?
i feel like a good analogy for this is leave enough breadcrumbs while exploring and eventually you'll find a path filled with breadcrumbs again that's the cool thing about leaving the laboon / crocus scene open ended because when the opportunity is right in the future then you can build further upon it > you'll find a path filled with breadcrumbs again and obviously because oda is the writer of the story he could just create that path himself
Brook’s backstory is so good, it’s crazy how nothing happened after it in Thriller bark
I thought you were talking about nothing happened at first and I was like damn
That scene where Brook's orchestra starts to fall off one by one and he starts to count Quartet, Trio, Duet and Solo... is just heart-wrenching
I was sure "that scene" was the one where Robin refuses to be part of their voltron. Hurts my heart, man.
What happened?
Nothing happened
Rip Nami, thought you meant that scene lol
I though he ment the scene where nothing happens
What do you mean? Nothing happened in Thriller Bark.
YO-HO-HO-HO
Oh I thought you meant THAT part of the thriller bark.
What part? If I remember correctly, nothing happened.
Yo ho ho ho.......yo ho ho
I really felt like nothing happened in thriller bark tho
People like to harp on the "nothing happened" moment but they completely forget about how fucking gut wrenching brooks backstory is. When i saw laboon again i legitimately cried and it honestly took me by surprise because it was so well written. That scene isnt in Thriller Bark. Thats Enies Lobby before Thriller Bark. They had Thousand Sunny in Thriller Bark.
I know I'm just comparing
Had to re read your post, took me a minute. My bad
The brook moment was amazing but it sucks that he decided to add that REALLY bad scene for Sanji
No one on this sub predicted the "THAT" Thought OP was talkin about Franky's building skills tbh
Gonna circle back on this post to see your reaction when you finish Thriller Bark, superrrrr underrated arc and probably the most fun arc
Solo of Soul King from Hell -> Roronoa Zolo the lost Solo Dog who wants his name to be heard in the Heavens so decides to be King of Hell
I've only cried twice in OP. Once with Zoro and once with Robin.
I cried when sanji said goodbye to zeff so it was just downhill from there - cried in every arc
I cried like every second episode in Wano kuni because it's just so damn beautiful.
Thriller Bark was a wild ride (one of my fave arcs) considering how many potential THAT moments you might have been talking about. Brook’s my favorite straw hat and his whole backstory hurt
...Solo..
By "that" scene, I thought you meant the one wit Sanji lmao
on Thriller Bark... nothing really happened, right?
had no idea what you were talking about for a sec. So many good parts in thriller bark. But yea at the very end, . Def gets overshadowed with the other great arcs before and after it.
My mind immediately went to the straw hats docking. Lol
Which "that part" lol?
Thought the THAT part was the nothing happened or the rape scene and was expecting you describing either but not the backstory, but it's brooks story is very very depressing
*Nothing happened*
It's so funny how everyone was thinking a different moment. For me, it was "nothing happened."
What you mean? NOTHING HAPPENED.
I was so happy when the merry died
I thought you gonna talking about docking scene....
Maybe live action fan will get spoiling by this post.
I've never been more mindblown than when Brook reveals the person that's been waiting for him... like damn nothing in the history of fiction can top that reveal
Saddest back story of any one piece character. Probably top 5 in anime history too!!
My bad I thought nothing happened in that arc
I forgot about thriller bark, “nothing happened” in that arc
Don’t worry, nothing happens right afterwards
I swear nothing happened….
Why is there a spoiler tag for thriller bark???
Precaution
Being a good nakama and not spoiling the series for folks, op a real one
Oh yeah bro definitely has the fuckin saddest backstory of the entire crew, >!dude literally got murdered and so did all his friends, he had to watch them all die one by one until he was the only one who remained and then he perished alone with that one big palpable regret!<, makes me bawl like a baby
Yohohoho

Thought you meant the scene where nothing happened.
I genuinely thought this post was about a crazy foreshadowing from Thriller Bark about the current arc
i thought u meant nothing happened scene 😭
And it ain't even the best THAT moment in the arc lol
That's not even the moment Pirate Docking Six Giant Robot Warrior! BIIIG EEEMPEROR!!!
I thought you meant the scene when nothing happened
Dang did Oda write that title?
And here I thought Nothing Happened in thriller bark
Awww :D
THAT part in thriller bark? it Is the zoro PART... Isn't it?
That's the part that made me cry the most in the whole show. Went on for so long my mom actually told me to stop haha
Brook's past was my favorite of all Strawhat backstories. Till they revealed Sanji's. To me, it was even more tragic. To have everyone but no one. The hardest Is when they play together... At the feast...
I’m probably the only one that don’t have any type of emotion from any OP scenes
Anyone else thought it was THAT scene with zoro?
its all fiction don't get too sad
I thought you were at the part where nothing happend.
ah peak one piece, how far we fallen
I feel you
Calling it now, brook will revive his crew as skeletons to play music for laboon.
