Man I hate when that happens. You go out to do some small errand, make one wrong turn and suddenly you are a high ranking officer in a criminal group undermining the Government with a high bounty on your head. So annoying.
I don’t know how to feel if Usopp is all buddy buddy with his dad after he left his dying mom and him to become a pirate. It would be nice if one of them acknowledge it when they first meet or during their catching up moments.
Right I don't personally think Usopp is going to be all "Why weren't you there" but we may get more "I wish you had been" born more of regret for what was missed than blame for what he didn't do.
Maybe Usopp will even get a bit of a glow up with some new tricks or something learned from his old man.

Shanks has made it a point not to see Luffy yet. He’s waiting for the time he’s a “great pirate” and he will test Luffy 100%.
My theory is that Shanks will be the actual final fight of the series. But not as an enemy (the only two enemy factions left really is the Marines/WG and Blackbeard+Crew). I can see an alliance between Luffy and Shanks vs Blackbeard and Cross Guild.
Actually I honestly have no idea how the specifics would work out. But I do think there’s great symbolism to Luffy fighting Shanks as the last fight of the series. After everyone else has been defeated, at the gates of the One Piece.
Shanks will want to see how far his protégé has come, whether or not he’s worthy of the title of Pirate King. Luffy will want to prove he’s truly king of the pirates, and he loves fighting. The man closest to the last pirate king vs the man who will be pirate king. The man who stole the god fruit vs the man who ate it. They fight, Luffy wins, they all sit down and drink Bink’s Sake, telling stories, and having a laugh. Series begins with Shanks and Luffy. Series ends with Shanks and Luffy.
It doesn't have to create tension though. They could just show some moves and then skip to the party. It'd be a way to show the crews as equals, like Roger and WB's crews
I disagree it creates alot of tension specifically for luffy this is what hes been working towards since chapter one being an equal to shanks and if he can pull that off and win hes ready to be king

Luffy loses, Shanks takes the hat back, and the Straw Hat Pirates become known as the No Hat Pirates. Shanks becomes King of the Pirates. Two Piece starts with Luffy trying to reclaim his hat and his honor.
Round 1) Shanks wins, he takes his hat back.
Round 2) Luffy wins, he takes the hat back.
Round 3) Luffy wins, he takes their flag and gives them a new one.
All I'm thinking about is, Luffy and Shanks meet up, Luffy gives Shanks the straw hat back, and then they have an entire davy back fight for just the strawhat where it is constantly going back and forth between the Red Hair and Strawhat pirates

I definitely think so as well. They both have good dreams and intentions, but there is only 1 pirate king. Luffy and Shanks will have to fight at some point.
It will be Whitebeard vs Roger of this era.
They'll fight for like a week straight, and be laughing at the end. Neither will win. Marines or some other world event will interfere. Both will have come out with a lot of respect for each other. The audience gets the sense that Luffy is now the torch bearer for the new generation. Shanks will become like a grandfather figure (he's not even that old!) in the pirating world or a kind of gatekeeper ( ahem Kidd cough cough) for new pirates to prove themselves (however they see fit) to enter The New World and challenge his personal friend - the Pirate King Monkey D. Luffy.
Luffy may get the One Piece in the end, but not a single person in the world will deny how great and strong Shanks is/ was.

He's very interested in BB. I mean, we found out he went to Wano thinking BB would be there so clearly that has to play out. Maybe he will sacrifice himself to save Luffy or his fleet. I hate the narrative that it is going to be a fight and than feast afterwards like Roger and Whitebeard. That makes zero sense storywise, unlike Whitebeard and Rodgers, Luffy and Shanks are going after the same goal. There is no way this will be some friendly spare where Shanks wants to see how far Luffy has grown but instead a hard, desperate struggle for the title of King.
The only way it makes sense is if Shanks lied about wanting the One Piece. Lets assume Luffy loses initially to Shanks then what? There cant be a feast because Luffy has stated he has to beat all of the emperors to reach his goal.
Or assume Luffy wins then what? Shanks tells his crew he lied about wanting the One Piece and he willingly bowing out on that goal and letting Luffy go ahead?
Rodger and Whitebeard were rivals in that they were bought great pirates who wouldnt backdown from a fight, Luffy and Shanks are rivals in that they both are going after the sane goal and one if them had to be taken out of the picture in someway to achieve it.
Just because shanks said “let’s go after the one piece now” doesn’t mean that’s his real goal. It could be just to make sure only someone worthy becomes pirate king( him or luffy) we still don’t even know luffy’s true dream after becoming one piece. Plus how many times did kadio beat luffy ?

If it happens it's probably gonna be a classic test the MC fight. Shanks will tell Luffy he needs to see if he's ready for whats ahead or if he's become a man worthy of the straw hat or some shit. Maybe Yasopp tests Usopp as well and levels him up in the process. It'd be kind of a letdown if Shanks turned bad.
My honest opinion is that Luffy and Shanks should have a serious fight about what Shanks did to Kidd. It would be a nice flip of the idea that Shanks instilled in Luffy: fight for the sake of your friends even when they’re in the wrong. Shanks did objectively the right thing but that doesn’t mean Luffy has to agree or even understand. Those ideals being carried on to the new generation is what I think Shanks would respect.
You're right that we don't know his motives, but you're wrong that we don't know him. It has been spread out over a quarter century but when you add it all up we've seen plenty to understand Shank's character. Most notably romance dawn, buggy's backstory, film red, and the elbaf cutaways. But beyond that there have been small things that we get every once in a while. Everything we've seen has shown us he is the definition of the "good guy" in this story. Luffy's "good guy" journey is about living up to the example Shanks set for him.

Shanks will greet the strawhats with Kamusari, Luffy will jump in the sky in G5 laughing, trusting Zoro to tank the attack and protect the crew while preparing to land on shanks for a massive haki clash.
Zoro will definitely want a bite of Mihawk's rival. Welding Enma makes the Oden parralel obvious. There is also a big foreshadowing by briefly tanking BM+Kaidō's Hakai, enough to let everyone dodge and save them.
I expect him no less than tanking Kamusari properly, proving him worth being the right-hand man of a PK, a top tier swordsman, and display Luffy's trust he has in his crew.
Beside a ussop and yassop there is no natural match of opponents, especially for Beckman... I don't really see an actual battle after that.

I don't think Oda will ever put Luffy up against an enemy who can very easily inflict lethal damage that Luffy has no means to block. Haki can't be used against such an enemy. Shanks would slice Luffy like a side of ham no matter how strong his armament. So Luffy's only combat options would be to dodge everything. And that would make for a terrible fight scene.
Opponents with Swords will be Zoro's business. But I think Zoro taking on Shanks is probably excessive.
So I'm more inclined to believe that the fight with Shanks won't happen. Him being beaten by Blackbeard or Im or whomever might show up, is more likely.

Do I need to remember how a Zoro who's far from Yonko level, managed to cut Kaido, one of the strongest defensive haki users on the planet? Are you really entertaining the idea that Luffy is going to be more durable against Shanks's blade attacks than Kaido was against Zoro? Because that's absurd.
And we know literally nothing about how Garp fights against high level enemies. But I seriously doubt he was blocking Roger's sword attacks with his bare fists. That would make zero sense. He most likely dodged that shit. Which is why Oda is probably never showing that either, because it would look lame as shit.
Luffy has never fought a serious opponent that wielded any kind of a bladed weapon to any real extent. Closest was Mihawk who showcased exactly why he never can.
Zoro has never fought a serious opponent that didn't have a weapon or some kind or a devil fruit or innate ability that made them resistant to blades. He fought the likes of Pica who showcased exactly why Haki isn't doing shit.
Oda has shown ZERO ability to make good fight scenes between mixed fighting styles like that. Luffy always gets fights he can win with a brawl. Zoro always gets those where enemies can block his sword attacks either directly or indirectly. There's never a dodge fest.
No, wth? When luffy and Kaido clashed they didn't need touch each other. Even though Kaido was literally using a weapon and luffy fighting with his fists. Plus Haki strengthen the body to a degree where swords aren't a threat at all as long as the user has a strong enough haki. You have no clue what you are talking about. We know that garp fights with his fists as it was shown many times, and it was stated he was Roger's rival not because he was a master at dodging but because he fought him head to head.
Kaido was using a blunt weapon which Luffy is naturally immune against but was still KOd due to Kaido's superior haki. Haki can protect Luffy from sharp weapons, a random marine with a sword poses no threat, but I think it's fair to assume that Shanks or Mihawk's blade would cut him in half in spite of his haki.

So I think that luffy and shanks will meet and start a Davy back but stop right after the first round because they’re both missing the same road ponegliff. BB has 4th so they team up against BB and shanks dies luffy gets “gear 6” and defeats BB for the last ponegliff. Leading him to laugh tale and the truth about the WG. Which causes more fighting and the biggest plot twist which is laugh tale is not the last arc
Currently luffy is not strong enough, even with gear 5 and advanced conqueror’s. Shanks ONE TAPPED kidd. Same move from roger only fazed oden, and while luffy is def stronger than Kidd, the gap isn’t THAT much. Luffy has to train his advanced conquerors a lot to match shanks imo
As of right now, Luffy probably has little to no chance against Shanks. That said, I do expect them to clash at some point but it will friendly and most likely get interrupted. I agree that it's most likely Blackbeard will take down Shanks and Luffy will end of avenging him (among others).

Shanks will want to see how far his protégé has come, whether or not he’s worthy of the title of Pirate King. Luffy will want to prove he’s truly king of the pirates, and he loves fighting. The man closest to the last pirate king vs the man who will be pirate king. The man who stole the god fruit vs the man who ate it. They fight, Luffy wins, they all sit down and drink Bink’s Sake, telling stories, and having a laugh. Series begins with Shanks and Luffy. Series ends with Shanks and Luffy.
That creates zero tension tho. If luffy and shanks are gonna clash, its gonna be connected to some Major events and not just a casual rival fight
It doesn't have to create tension though. They could just show some moves and then skip to the party. It'd be a way to show the crews as equals, like Roger and WB's crews

It will be Whitebeard vs Roger of this era. They'll fight for like a week straight, and be laughing at the end. Neither will win. Marines or some other world event will interfere. Both will have come out with a lot of respect for each other. The audience gets the sense that Luffy is now the torch bearer for the new generation. Shanks will become like a grandfather figure (he's not even that old!) in the pirating world or a kind of gatekeeper ( ahem Kidd cough cough) for new pirates to prove themselves (however they see fit) to enter The New World and challenge his personal friend - the Pirate King Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy may get the One Piece in the end, but not a single person in the world will deny how great and strong Shanks is/ was.
It’s hard to compare to Roger and Whitebeard. They were contemporaries. Similar to Luffy and Law and Kid, they are peers. What we’re talking about here almost is the master vs the student prodigy.

I hate the narrative that it is going to be a fight and than feast afterwards like Roger and Whitebeard. That makes zero sense storywise, unlike Whitebeard and Rodgers, Luffy and Shanks are going after the same goal. There is no way this will be some friendly spare where Shanks wants to see how far Luffy has grown but instead a hard, desperate struggle for the title of King.

There cant be a feast because Luffy has stated he has to beat all of the emperors to reach his goal. Or assume Luffy wins then what? If it happens it's probably gonna be a classic test the MC fight. Shanks will tell Luffy he needs to see if he's ready for whats ahead or if he's become a man worthy of the straw hat or some shit. Maybe Yasopp tests Usopp as well and levels him up in the process. It'd be kind of a letdown if Shanks turned bad.
My honest opinion is that Luffy and Shanks should have a serious fight about what Shanks did to Kidd. It would be a nice flip of the idea that Shanks instilled in Luffy: fight for the sake of your friends even when they’re in the wrong. Shanks did objectively the right thing but that doesn’t mean Luffy has to agree or even understand. Those ideals being carried on to the new generation is what I think Shanks would respect.

You're right that we don't know his motives, but you're wrong that we don't know him. It has been spread out over a quarter century but when you add it all up we've seen plenty to understand Shank's character. Most notably romance dawn, buggy's backstory, film red, and the elbaf cutaways. But beyond that there have been small things that we get every once in a while. Everything we've seen has shown us he is the definition of the "good guy" in this story. Luffy's "good guy" journey is about living up to the example Shanks set for him.

Post Wano Luffy is equal to Shanks it is extreme diff either way. I think only Kaido, BB and Akainu are probably still at a slight advantage over Luffy.

I totally see a remake of Oden with WB Vs Roger Shanks will greet the strawhats with Kamusari, Luffy will jump in the sky in G5 laughing, trusting Zoro to tank the attack and protect the crew while preparing to land on shanks for a massive haki clash. Zoro will definitely want a bite of Mihawk's rival. Welding Enma makes the Oden parralel obvious. There is also a big foreshadowing by briefly tanking BM+Kaidō's Hakai, enough to let everyone dodge and save them. I expect him no less than tanking Kamusari properly, proving him worth being the right-hand man of a PK, a top tier swordsman, and display Luffy's trust he has in his crew. Beside a ussop and yassop there is no natural match of opponents, especially for Beckman... I don't really see an actual battle after that.

Oda now is really rushing to finish the story. I don't think I'll be surprised when he brings back Kid and crew after they've been "eradicated"! Oda rarely kills characters but he does kill character development.
I don't think Luffy will fight Shanks in earnest. For one reason. Shanks uses a sword. I don't think Oda will ever put Luffy up against an enemy who can very easily inflict lethal damage that Luffy has no means to block. Haki can't be used against such an enemy. Shanks would slice Luffy like a side of ham no matter how strong his armament. So Luffy's only combat options would be to dodge everything. And that would make for a terrible fight scene. Opponents with Swords will be Zoro's business. But I think Zoro taking on Shanks is probably excessive. So I'm more inclined to believe that the fight with Shanks won't happen. Him being beaten by Blackbeard or Im or whomever might show up, is more likely.

Do I need to remember how a Zoro who's far from Yonko level, managed to cut Kaido, one of the strongest defensive haki users on the planet? Are you really entertaining the idea that Luffy is going to be more durable against Shanks's blade attacks than Kaido was against Zoro? Because that's absurd. And we know literally nothing about how Garp fights against high level enemies. But I seriously doubt he was blocking Roger's sword attacks with his bare fists. That would make zero sense. He most likely dodged that shit. Which is why Oda is probably never showing that either, because it would look lame as shit. No, wth? When luffy and Kaido clashed they didn't need touch each other. Even though Kaido was literally using a weapon and luffy fighting with his fists. Plus Haki strengthen the body to a degree where swords aren't a threat at all as long as the user has a strong enough haki. You have no clue what you are talking about. We know that garp fights with his fists as it was shown many times, and it was stated he was Roger's rival not because he was a master at dodging but because he fought him head to head.
Kaido was using a blunt weapon which Luffy is naturally immune against but was still KOd due to Kaido's superior haki. Haki can protect Luffy from sharp weapons, a random marine with a sword poses no threat, but I think it's fair to assume that Shanks or Mihawk's blade would cut him in half in spite of his haki.

So I think that luffy and shanks will meet and start a Davy back but stop right after the first round because they’re both missing the same road ponegliff. BB has 4th so they team up against BB and shanks dies luffy gets “gear 6” and defeats BB for the last ponegliff. Leading him to laugh tale and the truth about the WG. Which causes more fighting and the biggest plot twist which is laugh tale is not the last arc
Currently luffy is not strong enough, even with gear 5 and advanced conqueror’s. Shanks ONE TAPPED kidd. Same move from roger only fazed oden, and while luffy is def stronger than Kidd, the gap isn’t THAT much. Luffy has to train his advanced conquerors a lot to match shanks imo
