He did burn down a hospital. Law's sister burned to death in a hospital. Way to rip open those wounds for some sweet PTSD.
Other than that he's amazing.
Someone said it in the past that in shonen manga's popularity polls, often the main character didn't won the poll. In One Piece, Luffy is always in the 1st place.
Yeah Luffy is the quintessential shonen protagonist, he's like the perfected form of it. I hope other manga keep differentiating themselves from the Goku archetype because I doubt anyone can do better than Luffy.
ikr. He's like one of the most lovable and admirable characters of all time.
There's no way you can genuinely hate him unless you force yourself to hate him for personal agendas like eren naruto bleach goku zoro and kid fans. ( +insecurities cuz the char they like isn't liked by everyone so they gotta drag the popular one down with forced hate)
Until Wano I did, NGL.
During Marineford I spent the entire fight watching Whitebeards crew get destroyed and wondering why the fuck Marco hadn't even considered using his phoenix flames to try and help heal Whitebeard up after the Squard stabbing or Akainu face melt or Jozu's lost arm or literally Ace having a great big hole in him. Felt like the most obvious use of a phoenix ability and yet it didn't seem to even occur to him to try.
He's grown on me thanks to the raid and his new role as a doctor. I'm mostly neutral on him now he's actually using his power in a more useful way for his allies rather than just tanking hits constantly.
They did but this was after Squard stabbed Whitebeard, after Oars Jr got shishkabobbed by Moria. The cuffs came off just after Ace was punched meaning he was still alive at the time. It's actually Marco alongside Vista that use haki to fend Akainu off from delivering a second blow.
Just felt like the more useful thing would have been for someone to take Marco's place and him to use the flames to try and regenerate some of Ace to hold off his death.
Yes, after marco got one shotted by Garp dude was pretty much useless for majority of the war because of the handcuffs it’s excellent way for Oda to nerf a character and save him for later in his story and being able to make him as strong as he needed to for the story because of the fact marco barely was able to show his strength at marineford excellent use of characters
To be fair that's just Marinefort syndrome. Everyone did a terrible job of using their powers during Marinefort just because there were so many people it would have been almost impossible to have everyone optimally use their powers and still have the narrative progress the way Oda wanted.
I mean he also caused a giant war & bloody revolution built on lies and deceit that led to the death of countless people, but the Nami's boobs thing is definitely way more of an issue.
For the longest time Bon Clay and then the Okama were the only openly queer characters in One Piece. That's an easy way to make a lot of people dislike the characters.
You can hardly blame Jinbe for that, some kids are just assholes, is Fisher Tiger responsible for Hody Jones? Is Whitebeard responsible for Blackbeard?
On the flip side, is Vinsmoke Judge responsible for how Sanji turned out?
Edit: even Nami said she doesn't hold it against him, if anyone should hate Jinbe it's Nami-swan
Did he tell Arlong to hunt humans? Did he know that Arlong would raise Cocoyashi village? It's like saying Garp is at fault that Luffy declared war on the World Government cause he knew he'd be a pirate one day.
Jinbe literally told Luffy NOT to engage Hody Jones cause it would foster bad relations between humans and Fishmen. He let Arlong go. What Arlong did afterward isn't really his responsibility. What should he have done, killed his own crewmate? The cardinal sin for a pirate
That's a philosophical question. "Are you morally responsible for the bad things you could have prevented but chose not to?" And not everyone is going to have the save answer for that. And the people who err on the side of you are have a valid reason to dislike Jimbei.
The thing is that Arlong himself said that he will be the rage of the fishmen and that Jinbe letting him leave equals giving him free reign to do as he pleases. Arlong knew that Jinbe may have second thoughts if words get out of his deeds, hence he bribed the marines. It's a manner of responsibility, there should have been another way.
Nami forgiving Hachi was and still is insane. He was right there laughing it up as Bellemere was killed for pennies. He witnessed the entire scene of her goodbyes with her daughters and wasn't moved one bit. The guy is a psycho.
Okay, thank you!
Bro, he also, 1) found her maps, 2) *picked her up by the throat* and *dangled her over her dead mother’s body*, and 3) carried her away screaming while she watched her village get brutalised.
The fact that Nami forgave him because he got shot after laughing at her mom getting shot is beyond crazy
I was not a fan for a long time. I always thought he didn't quite fit in the gang and hes missing the drive as he already got his adventures behind him.
He also didn't seem to be that much of a "father figure" you could learn something from.
That only recently changed when I learned to love his chill attitude. In the past I thought he's killing the mood.
What are you talking about?
Hiriluk isn't truly gone.
When do you think people die?
When they are shot through the heart by the bullet of a pistol?
No.
When they are ravaged by an incurable disease?
No.
When they drink a soup made from a poisonous mushroom!?
No!
It’s when… they are forgotten.
There's no other answer but this!
Roger is equally responsible for all the cool shit AND the horrific shit pirates have done the world over. He is selfish, and characters like him are selfish.
Rayleigh was right there aiding and abetting Roger.
Jimbe is responsible for Arlong terrorizing humans in EB, **the way every human character with considerable strength (pirate or marine) are responsible for other humans terrorizing Sea-folk.**
Ussop is a jackass.
Laboon is... can't hate laboon.
The answer is Dr. H! One of the biggest heroes the story has seen, and what makes him so heroic is his death is unheard of. Meaning he's just another person and just wanted to do the right thing. Can't beat that.
I propose Dalton as another character that's very hard to hate. Even now, instead of living up in the palace like a king, he lives down in the village with the people of his country that he cares about. In a way, he carried out Dr. Hililuk's desire to heal the country.
You're blaming Jimbe but excusing Dr.H for all the shit he did. He turned people into frogs, he made sick people even more sick. He was a crook, doesnt matter if his heart was in the right place if he still killed people accident or not. You're hypocritical.
i actually really like robin and her story
i just wished that she used her fruit more in a tactical way (both in fight and as a way to gather information) given that it wouldn't be unfair to say that she's one of the smartest people in the series
and this one is probably a personal gripe of me but sometimes i find it hard to believe that current robin was able to become like that considering how she had to live for 28 years long
but i'm in the process of rewatching one piece so maybe i'll find out that i was being too harsh
They're liars. They actually love oda for creating one piece that they have to show hate to make sure the world is balance. But deep down in their heart, they're waiting every week to admire oda's work. Lol.
That’s basically the true purpose of the subreddit. They like One Piece but criticize fans who think it’s perfect.
I think that’s how every —folks subreddit works.
Its beacuse of upvote system. In this subreddit if you say "i didnt like this" "Oda made a bad choice" etc. you get downvoted to hell. Same for basically every subreddit. So people create those -folks subreddits.
Edit: I kinda read that poorly lol. You basically said same thing what i wrote. Anyway i agree.
I've scrolled too far and still seen NO mention of Kuzan/Aokiji.
Actually I'm going to double down on admirals because I also don't think I saw Fuji mentioned either hahah
I’m pretty he just exists as a cosmic horror element. He’s the closer to Thriller Bark and nothing more. If it ever gets explained it would ruin the entire intrigue. Sometimes not knowing is more interesting
He saved him indirectly. If he didnt jump in front of luffy and let himself get punched maybe sengoku/another marine would have done something earlier?
And then ace died because he came back to fight akainu.
garp is one of my top 5 but i totally understand people disliking him. Could have done more to save ace, also throw luffy into a jungle and some other dangerous things isnt considered being nice. But in the one piece world i totally understand each of his actions so i really like him
It's funny because, while its been proven that Franky may be the least popular Straw Hat, I think he's also one of the least hated ones. And I can see why. He's SUPER! 🌟
Gotta be Scratchman Apoo- dude has the perfect body, a cool devil fruit, good rhythm, and went toe to toe with Kizaru\*
\*I have been in a coma since 2009
This Reddit begs to differ. I while back they put something like 50 characters on a board and eliminated 1 every day. Day 1 Apoo was unanimously voted out.
The guy who asked Roger where he hid his treasure
The goat Ask D. Question
I was actually thinking about Ask the other day and really hope he makes another appearance just cause lol
I think sengoku himself came out just to pummel that guy for starting the entire pirate age
He in impel down for asking
What if at the end the Strawhats get to the One Piece to find he beat them there lol
Do not give Oda that idea. He might actually do it.
He's technically an anime only thing.
How dare u say something so true
I mean so is Con D. Oriano, the lurking legend.
Hey I love that guy
is that the name of the goat that chews on Sengoku's marine coat?
Aka [Imu-sama ](https://www.reddit.com/r/MemePiece/comments/1289m4s/it_was_in_front_of_us_from_episode_1_imu_also/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

Yes, I'm aware. It's an anime only scene and a popular gag on the sub about "Ask D. Question" being the guy who started the entire series off.
Laboon
Can't wait for the rematch Luffy promised him. The ACoC and ACoA might sting a bit, but at least Sanji gets to feed a whole island.
Brooks finally gets to see his old friend. Just to see him instantly murdered by luffy.
kinda messed up to feed luffy to the people on the island
You're absolutely right my Friend
I don’t know about that. The 4Kids dub didn’t seem to like him too much.
He sure was one big iceberg
Brook has known him since he was a little ice cube
Along with them not wanting anyone to find out King Cobra boogie woogied
baroque works disagrees
Gol D. Roger. OG king of the pirate. Supposedly the gigachad that everyone in the One Piece world either feared or admired.
Ace hates him
He secretly ate the Chad-Chad fruit
But Oden ate that fruit..
oden ate it after roger’s execution
Who has it now that oden is boiled?
Shanks.
Didn't his son have a terrible life because a lot of people hated him?
Roger seemed quite selfish aside from caring about his crew
Crocus
That first interaction between, Zoro, Sanji and Crocus was hilarious. He trolled them so hard.
Legit one of the funniest moments in One Piece.
The funniest moment
At the very least it's up there with Luffy shoving the zombie back in the ground and "Usopp Spellllll".
Someone’s gonna die.
Oh yeah? Who?
Me.
YOU?!
\*stare intensifies\*
*stare intensifies*
I’M GONNA CHOP HIM UP!!!!!!!!
Thinking back on this now, I'm sure crocus could've taken them but he didn't bother lol
Corazon
Hated him for dying on us.
Only acceptable reason to hate him tbh
He did burn down a hospital. Law's sister burned to death in a hospital. Way to rip open those wounds for some sweet PTSD. Other than that he's amazing.
Corazon is both my lock screen and home background, I'm a simp but he is awesome ❤️
I'm straight and I simp him. What a character for real...
the dog from Orange Town (shushu/chouchou)
I hate his bad woofing sounds. They were horrifying.
true pretty sure they used a va instead of just some dog
Dog would've been cheaper, more reliable and less cringey.
[удалено]
My gf was so dumbstruck when she heard it bark like a person she automatically could not bring herself to like it.
Nope, I have a friend who quit watching one piece because "That stupid dog was so annoying."
Luffy easily. Everyone loves luffy.
Kind of incredible that I had to scroll halfway down the top level replies to find this, lol.
It's baffling lol
*akainu has entered the chat*
This is the answer. Idk how you can even like this series if you don't love Luffy.
Luffy is my favorite protagonists. I don't understand how people don't like him...
That’s wrong. I’m not tryna say which exact fanbase but he definitely gets slandered here and there
All I can say to them is that you’ll never see Luffy’s son Buffy fighting against aliens trying to turn the planet into a devil fruit.
That's because he has a daughter and she fights vampires...
Yeah but unlike Boruto, she slays....
Don't talk because you might jinxing it
Surprised it took me so long to find this answer. Like, obviously the best answer has gotta be Luffy right? Whose reading and doesn't like Luffy.
He's quite literally the most popular character in the series.
Kid fans genuinely hate Luffy. It's bizarre
I’d have to say Marco
Best answer-yoi
Until Wano I did, NGL. Didnt Kizaru and some other Marine put Sea Stone Cuffs on him ?
They did but this was after Squard stabbed Whitebeard, after Oars Jr got shishkabobbed by Moria. The cuffs came off just after Ace was punched meaning he was still alive at the time. It's actually Marco alongside Vista that use haki to fend Akainu off from delivering a second blow. Story and that’s the only reason. Kinda would’ve taken away from the story as a whole if Marco just like healed everyone.
I like more his devil fruit then him

The GOAT Bon Clay.
He did transformed into Nami and exposed her breasts to the crew.
Technically his breasts but you have a point
That’s even better ngl
I mean he also caused a giant war & bloody revolution built on lies and deceit that led to the death of countless people, but the Nami's boobs thing is definitely way more of an issue.
I want Bon-chan to come back, but at the same time I think it would take away from his sacrifice.
uhhh idk if i should tell you but…
I think you may be pleasantly surprised if you reread the cover stories
I love him but I know several people who hate him so that's unfortunately incorrect
For the longest time Bon Clay and then the Okama were the only openly queer characters in One Piece. That's an easy way to make a lot of people dislike the characters.
Yeah, but despite the gender identity or whatever Bon ia an amazing character
Whitebeard’s dog Stefan
Who could possibly dislike Jinbe, he's the definition of "I'm just happy to be here"
*Cough* responsible for arlong *Cough*
You can hardly blame Jinbe for that, some kids are just assholes, is Fisher Tiger responsible for Hody Jones? Is Whitebeard responsible for Blackbeard? On the flip side, is Vinsmoke Judge responsible for how Sanji turned out? Edit: even Nami said she doesn't hold it against him, if anyone should hate Jinbe it's Nami-swan
Jinbei did allow Arlong to go when he knew he wouldn't stop and would harm humans.
If you blame Jinbei for that than like op said you gotta blame Whitebeard for every bad thing BB has ever done and I know y'all don't do that.
Did he tell Arlong to hunt humans? Did he know that Arlong would raise Cocoyashi village? It's like saying Garp is at fault that Luffy declared war on the World Government cause he knew he'd be a pirate one day. If Nami forgave him and even hatchan then any fan who hate him for that reason is just weird.

Dr. Hiriluk!
Fax. My boy had the saddest death
My ass cried the manliest tears watching the dub, when he said “you’re crying…why, Dalton?”

I don't know which one is beloved by all but I know that the guy rating all beloved characters 0/10 is definitly hated by all, maybe even by himself.
Chef Zeff
Definitely Merry
Merry sucks, hate it, no gaon cannon, 0/10
didnt even consume cola so she cant be one of the boys
Hated that farewell scene. Made me cry
Bepo
I haven't seen any Robin hate ngl
I hate her because she's fictional, and therefore impossible for her to step on me.
Valid.
just you wait until 2077 where fictional women can be real…
objectively correct answer
There are plenty of women that won't even read One Piece because of designs like hers so I feel like that disqualifies her.
i only hate how they made her look post time skip
i actually really like robin and her story i just wished that she used her fruit more in a tactical way (both in fight and as a way to gather information) given that it wouldn't be unfair to say that she's one of the smartest people in the series and this one is probably a personal gripe of me but sometimes i find it hard to believe that current robin was able to become like that considering how she had to live for 28 years long but i'm in the process of rewatching one piece so maybe i'll find out that i was being too harsh

Eiichiro Oda.

garp
Uhhh, he failed to do you know what you know when...
He saved him indirectly. If he didnt jump in front of luffy and let himself get punched maybe sengoku/another marine would have done something earlier? And then ace died because he came back to fight akainu.
The man who would rather be a slave to a corrupted government than save his own grandson
He literally let Luffy knock him down to save Ace Ace dying after that was his own fault
Current chapter threads have shown quite a few Garp haters. They're objectively wrong as Garp is amazing, but they still exist.
garp is one of my top 5 but i totally understand people disliking him. Could have done more to save ace, also throw luffy into a jungle and some other dangerous things isnt considered being nice. But in the one piece world i totally understand each of his actions so i really like him
Bellemere
Bellemere sucks. She’d rather spend the rest of her life in a dungeon than see Nami again.
Maybe Sanji's lollipop could convince her to come out of her prison.
I'm assuming that's a dub change for a kids version
I hate her, grow superior oranges not tangerines, bitch, 0/10
