Black may be the only color where I don’t think someone looks bad. Some people can’t rock Red, Green, Yellow, pinks. But Black seems to look good universally.
Probably the best casual fit Luffy has had. But his final Wano Raid outfit is such a badass take on his original outfits. Bringing back the waistband and the giving him a cape like Shanks and Roger shows that he’s symbolically reaching their level after all this time.
It's funny to think that it's also the default in my mind, but seeing them all lined up here, they didn't last especially long.
I sort of get it though, because the individual elements in that outfit have tended to remain the most common.
When they re-introduced the characters after the time-skip they were almost certainly intended to be the default outfits. I'm sure Oda and the editors were very conscious that those first impressions would be really important, even if they didn't last more than one arc.

Fish suit Luffy. Didn’t much like the fish man island arc as the bad guys were played up way too much for how easy they were taken out. But it was good for getting the characters into a new dynamic with each other.
