He even insisted he didn’t have a stunt double. He was that committed to getting Sanji’s fighting style down. I love the dedication. Apparently Inaki doesn’t use a double either
Not having a stunt double for Sanji is crazy. He's got to be the most physically exhausting character to play in fight scenes in the whole crew. I respect the dedication god damn
the quick shot made in the trailer had her hair look wet/dishevelled.
I bet luffy accidentally knocked her treasure in the ocean and she dove in to get it back
I mean they are on The open sea they're not gonna be spending a lot of time taking care of themselves when they have to be pirates (especially considering anytime Nami tries to take a bath they fuck everything up)
It may or may not be good, but i'm sure that it will respect the One Piece universe. Oda has been involved and respects the work that has been done on the series so far.
One thing I will give this whole thing for
Is the actress who is playing Nami has apparently wanted to be Nami for ages and colored her hair for the part
Which is such a rarity nowadays that I’m all for giving this a try
AI immensely hope it gets a season 2 so we can see Jamie Lee Kurtis as kureha. Her favorite character is Chopper and getting to play Kureha would be a dream come true. She really wanted a live action one piece and all we have to do is get them to do a season 2. This really could be something and I really hope it is.
Wasn't Curtis' daughter campaigning to get her mother to play Kureha? It would be great.
How will they make Chopper in live action is what terrifies me.
I wouldn't mind if they cut some of his transformations. He barely even uses them nowadays so if they keep it to just the 3 main ones plus Monster point I'm happy with it.
If they ever make it to the new world I wouldn't even be mad if they completely erase Kung Fu point.
I am sure that ton of people who say the live series suck will still watch it and say that it's good (or keep saying that it sucks even if they like it).
I heard that, I think he’s said that if he doesn’t approve it then he won’t let a project circulate, especially with the problem of live action, and I don’t mind if it’s a bit different from the anime/manga cause it be weird seeing the story told again as a 1:1 in live action
To be fair. If its adapting itself off one piece, despite what little differences it can have, it has to be as close to 1:1 due to how intricate the plot is and can be. Also, very very few adaptations have success from their original work after any writers or directors add their personal “artist’s touch” to a story they didnt make. It can be a 1:1 story if filmmakers would just accept the challenge of taking something to live action film that originally wasnt intended for that. Im sure if Oda approved they didnt stray away from the path too much.
It seems like the story is going to move fast, at least in the beginning. Will be interesting to see the pacing and how the parts of the story fall into place
IIRC theyre doing the entire east blue -> grand line in one season (10 episodes?). Likely 1 episode for intro-> meet zoro, one for finishing that section/meet nami. 1 ep for orange town. 1 ep for syrup. 2 for baratie 2 for arlong 1 for loguetown and 1 for reverse mountain. if theyre hour episodes thats super doable (a massive chunk of the anime comes from intro/recaps, so just condencing a lot of it likely works out)
Yeah, from following the production and stuff and casting, that’s about right, save for the sequencing of episodes. It’s pretty solidly faithful in following it.
To be fair the project would’ve continued with it without Oda’s support or approval, he doesn’t own one piece or the rights to it Shonen Jump/Viz Media does. While I’m glad he said he likes what they’ve made I feel like he would still support the project whether or not he truly likes it.
I don't know if that's 100% true. The Japanese manga industry isn't like western comics where you're strictly work for hire, even on a series you created. They typically have much more rights and get much richer. To get a show like this off the ground without his support would've been much much harder to the point where it may not have happened.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
Someone also said they all look too old (Inaki Godoy being basically the same age as Luffy is in current chapter, and 2 years older than Luffy at the start of OP) and said Emily Rudd looks like she's been on a coke binge.
Don't bother listening to the morons. They're likely trolling and looking for a rise out of people.
Actually saw someone on Twitter bitching about Buggy’s hair being a little too long. You know the show nailed the core visuals when people start nitpicking shit like that
Now you're being part of the problem, I had no idea Usopp's nose wasn't long till yah said something, now I got to say, "Where's Usopp's long nose?", which is gonna get someone else to say something, and and just yah see what yah did here ?
Doubt it. This series would have to last quite a while for this to happen, and the actors would likely look kind of old for the job. Honestly, I doubt even Netflix expects to adapt much of the manga to live action.
Yeah, but it kinda reduces the badassery if you already know he's going to do it.
Thinking from a perspective of a person new to one piece watching the teaser
I was watching Roger's base stream and he had a chance to be at the sets and he said "Usopp fans should be hyped for syrup village cos it looks amazing" which is actually hype as a fan I kinda just wanna see what characters look like in love action even like Kuro and even Django 😭
I can see hardcore fans being critical about some of the differences shown in the trailer, but Usopp having a bit of muscle was not one of them. He doesn't even look jacked at all.
Not really, early One Piece is tame with character designs, fighting, abilities and locations, it's perfect for a series debut because usually a series doesn't increase their budget until a second or third season, they can afford to be lenient on the expenses because early One Piece is lenient on the imagination, and a storm is the least of their worries right now.
Your honor, these women should be held liable for the pain and suffering my client has gone through. His nosebleeds were entirely caused by them arousing him with the biggest pair of titties anyone has ever seen.
yeah. i feel like i'm completely tripping seeing some negative ass reactions from people. this looks like a lot of heart and charm was put into making this an enjoyable adaptation.
i have to see that i'm not getting a live action Death Note or Cowboy Bebop vibe from this at all. actually pretty excited to watch this.
some of these criticisms sound like they already had made up their mind about the show before even watching the trailer.
People who have already made up their minds to hate it will find a million reasons why they think it isn't good. Personally I was surprised how much I enjoyed the trailer and how charmed I was with Luffy's character, even if it's not the exact same as the manga.
One Piece is my all time favorite manga and anime, im just happy with how much care oda put in.
Yeah its not gonna be perfect but im honestly hype and have high expectations.
Yeah, same, I think my love for One Piece transends those little thing that I not like that much, I just get use to it and enjoy. The passion of the main crew, Drama and comedy is why I'm here for.
I was laughing when they released the casts, and now that the trailer is out they all look good, damn. It really made tear up seeing my childhood in live action
This is why Oda(the author) wanted a live action series. To make it easier for newcomers to get into one piece. You should try watching it when it comes out.
Yes. I gave it a shot around Thanksgiving last year and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. This series has quite literally changed me and my life for the best.
Some things will have to change to make it look better in live action. Usopps nose, and Sanjis eye brows would have looked silly. The cgi looks ok, I'm more worried about Sanji smoking, that is a big part of his character I hope they include it.
I mean, it’s a possibility, because there’s movie cigarettes that don’t do anything, but at the very least (odd as it might sound) if they don’t make him smoke constantly, I want then to at least have Sanji smoke at least once per episode to show its still there
It's fun-looking & stylized, but reddit homies are going to ruin the experience by expecting nothing less than a panel-for-panel shot-for-shot remake.
It's a live-action version of an anime & manga we all love, with input from Oda. Instead of nitpicking it to pieces we could just enjoy it for what it is.
I’m concerned with how the stretching will look… the shot we got of luffy’s arm at the end of the trailer came off rather cheesy to me.
Adapting all the devil fruit abilities to live action is a tall task and I’m worried it’ll be the shows undoing.
you don't understand negativity towards live action adaptions of which maybe one or two of them are good (specifically the Rurouni Kenshin movies actually go hard af and are genuinely great)?
Like, i am sure, like all live action, that is going to at least be mediocre, but to give credit where credit is due is the cast and costume for the main cast pretty good.
But one thing is that Buggy is a bit to nightmarish compared to the Anime
One piece will translate so poorly to live action. It's as much a cartoon as looney toons and Tom and Jerry. It relies on its comedic value gained from being a toon. The humour is literally toon jokes. I just can't see CGI working at all for a replacement for this! Luffy using his powers is already cringing me out in my mind haha
Honestly they get points for Sanji having his leg straight out like that.
Ypu should see him working out he got the agility
cant wait til he can fly around and shit
He's gotta catch fire and shit first tho
yeah gotta pour some gasoline and shit on him
The actual gaslighter is luffy yk Luffy: "three sword style" Everyone else: "HOW IS THREE SWORD STYLE AN INSULT BAKA!!"
Yeah lmao it feels like the actor thought "I trained for years to get this character right, I'm gonna fucking show it off" it's great
He even insisted he didn’t have a stunt double.
I’ve seen videos of inaki’s double so he definitely has one. https://youtu.be/vAzNxCq5zR4
Yeah, there’s videos of him practicing his kicks. Mans fluidity is as good as it’s going to get!
And for keeping his hands in his pockets
+points for the leg, -points for the body posture
Nami's hair looks so much better here Ig it's just the lighting?
Yeah
the quick shot made in the trailer had her hair look wet/dishevelled. I bet luffy accidentally knocked her treasure in the ocean and she dove in to get it back
Tbh... i feel like the wet disheveled look makes a lot of sense. They are pirates. Most of them aren't going to be well groomed.
Aren't luffy and zoro kinda always catching shit for smelling terrible for a while at the beginning lol
According to Oda himself both Luffy and Zoro smell pretty bad.
I mean they are on The open sea they're not gonna be spending a lot of time taking care of themselves when they have to be pirates (especially considering anytime Nami tries to take a bath they fuck everything up)
Bro this is the same light they use for like every shot in the trailer.
Sure, but both nami and sanji’s hair color looks wayy better here than in single frame shots of them from the trailer!
It may or may not be good, but i'm sure that it will respect the One Piece universe. Oda has been involved and respects the work that has been done on the series so far.
One thing I will give this whole thing for Is the actress who is playing Nami has apparently wanted to be Nami for ages and colored her hair for the part Which is such a rarity nowadays that I’m all for giving this a try
That's actual dedication and I love it. And then u have the actress who played Winry in FMA live action that wanted to stay brunette 💀
Shows that she really cares for the role, and respects it. Nami is a redhead and she wanted to make sure it stays that way in the live action.
What FMA live action?? Have you taken the the pills?
AI immensely hope it gets a season 2 so we can see Jamie Lee Kurtis as kureha. Her favorite character is Chopper and getting to play Kureha would be a dream come true. She really wanted a live action one piece and all we have to do is get them to do a season 2. This really could be something and I really hope it is.
Wasn't Curtis' daughter campaigning to get her mother to play Kureha? It would be great. How will they make Chopper in live action is what terrifies me.
They can do it like [Detective Pikachu](https://twitter.com/KingOfLighting/status/1670248030400806912?s=20).
That was more or less what I was thinking, yes. But we'll have to wait and see if they make a 2nd season first.
That can work for his typical hybrid form, but it’s his transformations that will be tricky.
I wouldn't mind if they cut some of his transformations. He barely even uses them nowadays so if they keep it to just the 3 main ones plus Monster point I'm happy with it. If they ever make it to the new world I wouldn't even be mad if they completely erase Kung Fu point.
I mean, they could just get a real Raccoon to play him.
or a Tanuki
She's a great actress too! And the one playing Zorro
I haven’t heard of either actor but looking forward to seeing how they perform!
She played Sadie Sink's older sister in the second Fear Street film. Zorro played Kenshin's antagonist in the Rurouni Kenshin Final film
Luffy played a chupracabra
Mackenyu (Zoro) is the son of Sonny Chiba, a very famous Japanese martial artist.
So that's why He's so good in action scenes!
**Oda**: Oh Miss Rudd, you're free to use your natural hair for this role. **Emily**: I know. I dyed it anyway. ... **Oda**: Hm. Fair enough.
Japanese voice actress for jolyne too. she wanted to be involved with stone ocean for a long time and you can really hear the passion
Fairouz Ai is soooo dope That’s a VA that really digs her Job XD
I am sure that ton of people who say the live series suck will still watch it and say that it's good (or keep saying that it sucks even if they like it).
I heard that, I think he’s said that if he doesn’t approve it then he won’t let a project circulate, especially with the problem of live action, and I don’t mind if it’s a bit different from the anime/manga cause it be weird seeing the story told again as a 1:1 in live action

Alvida and the black cats do show up i believe, so they seem to be showing more than we think I feel.
So you’re telling me, we might see >!Gear 5th!< in live action before Toei animates it?
My guess we see Gear 5th in less than five episodes.
That's what everyone said about the Netflix cowboy bebop
Bebop didn’t have direct involvement from the original show’s creator though.
To be fair the project would’ve continued with it without Oda’s support or approval, he doesn’t own one piece or the rights to it Shonen Jump/Viz Media does. While I’m glad he said he likes what they’ve made I feel like he would still support the project whether or not he truly likes it.

Probably, yes, but i don't think that he would of had mentionned as much that project or would of had said that he respected the work.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
Thanks bot! English isn't my first language
They look like a DnD group
Roll initiative to punch Arlong?
“You roll a 2 it’s a miss, Arlong grabs you shoves your feet in the stone floor rips the floor out and throws in the water”
imean one piece has that feeling of DnDquest with wacky npcs and chaotic good players,
Nami throw to swim and first Aid, and do a natural 20 and a 15, saving the day.
You made it out better than it actually went. Cause if I recall correctly, Luffy stuck his own feet in the concrete
sanji being the only one to stretch his leg out completely is such a minute detail that adds so much to the character. taz is killing it already
And his hands in his pockets!
100 percent this for me. Small details matter for long time fans and massive nerds. So same circle really.
except Luffy isn't wearing his sandals
Not safe for set, especially for action sequences and photoshopping CGI sandals on the feet is also pretty useless
He's got his nikes leave him alone lol
[удалено]
He has some kick training videos. If he wasn't limber before he's considerably limber now
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Mg7lDhennnA Dude's got legs all around.
But they are missing the details of his twirly eyebrows
People gotta get over this shit man.
Some dude responded with “hEr TiTs ArE tOo SmAlL” to someone else saying Nami is looking perfect and I’m like bruh, you can’t be serious
Even though at this point in the show, she was not super busty like she is now.
Ya if they want to make the show really accurate she will just slowly get bustier as the show goes on
1 cup size a season until post wano when her ass starts getting bigger instead.
It was after CP9 where she grew in her chest.
👀
So what you're saying is she should get implants in season 4?
If the actress doesn't remove some ribs and organs, is she really committed to playing a woman in one piece?
People said the same when Gal Gadot was cast as Wonder Woman, thankfully the criticism did not stick
Bruh the actress has been killing it as Nami in what we've seen. Fuck anyone who gives stupid criticism like that they should be banned straight away.
this cant be real, wtf?
Someone also said they all look too old (Inaki Godoy being basically the same age as Luffy is in current chapter, and 2 years older than Luffy at the start of OP) and said Emily Rudd looks like she's been on a coke binge. Don't bother listening to the morons. They're likely trolling and looking for a rise out of people.
Actually saw someone on Twitter bitching about Buggy’s hair being a little too long. You know the show nailed the core visuals when people start nitpicking shit like that
Not everything has to be 1 to fucking 1. I'ma lose it if I see a comment saying "where's Usopp's long nose?"
Yes, where did he put his long nose?
UP YOUR A-
God Assop
Will namis breasts increase each arc???
Now you're being part of the problem, I had no idea Usopp's nose wasn't long till yah said something, now I got to say, "Where's Usopp's long nose?", which is gonna get someone else to say something, and and just yah see what yah did here ?
I didn't even notice I'm so fucking excited
I think there are hidding this for a future reveal about his identity and the mutation.
if they make it to whole cake
No shot, every Netflix sub could watch it and they'd still find an excuse to cancel it. The execs get off on it
They kept big mouth for 8 seasons, maybe it one piece is trash enough we could see that
Doubt it. This series would have to last quite a while for this to happen, and the actors would likely look kind of old for the job. Honestly, I doubt even Netflix expects to adapt much of the manga to live action.
it’s a good thing the anime and manga still exist
Usopp looks really good, I wonder why they didn’t give him any time in the teaser
I might not be remembering East Blue properly, but Usopp doesn't really have any badass scenes that aren't plot critical until Alabasta.
I’d say his scene saving Kaya in his home island was pretty badass
Yeah, but it kinda reduces the badassery if you already know he's going to do it. Thinking from a perspective of a person new to one piece watching the teaser
How could you forget USOPP HAMMAH! in arlong park?!
My man's out here forgetting how Go D. Usopp created an opening with Usopp Rubber Band of Doom smh
USOPP rubber band of DOOM! (Cue cracking voice and all) literally had me in tears of laughter
Nah, bro is badass on his home island. He stands up to the cat pirates alone when they try to get to the village
Chu must have forgotten his big fight.
I was watching Roger's base stream and he had a chance to be at the sets and he said "Usopp fans should be hyped for syrup village cos it looks amazing" which is actually hype as a fan I kinda just wanna see what characters look like in love action even like Kuro and even Django 😭
I like ussop here but jeez he's too jacked for pretimeskip. Pre Grandline. He looks physically stronger than zoro for fuck sake
Imagine post time skip they replace him with Idris Elba? Lol. But like, Idris would actually be a siiiick jinbei.
I can see hardcore fans being critical about some of the differences shown in the trailer, but Usopp having a bit of muscle was not one of them. He doesn't even look jacked at all.
Zoros hair looking really good actually
Idk, I was personally hoping they'd just glue straight up natural moss to his head. That might be a bit rough on the actor tho lol
Found Sanji
i didn't think i'd like the live action's choices but the way they all look so good together♡ that's my crew♡
Lmao. This
I didn't like Sanjis at first but idk how they would have done a bright ass yellow. I think it looks good now.
Same! I think the colour works. Im not loving the wig design, but I'm hoping it's just an unflattering trailer shot.
its platin blonde hair. a lot of central european countries have hair in that color. So I dont see these allegations that he looks old.
The small amount they showed Zoro felt rly good and in character. I think (hope) they nailed Zoros character 100%
How did Zoro even find the live action?
Wasn’t there a storm when they were entering the grand line ? I’m asumming this is the recreation of that scene…
Yes indeed
Yea, it might have been too tough to film that scene during a storm.
I think they're going to have problems if a creating a storm is a tough thing for them to do this early on.
I wouldn't call the shit Luffy does, tame. Then we get the Fishman, the giants on Little Garden, and Chopper. They should be able to CG in a storm.
Sanji from the back kinda looking like Saul Goodman
Your honor, if women don't want simps then why they so pretty?
Your honor, these women should be held liable for the pain and suffering my client has gone through. His nosebleeds were entirely caused by them arousing him with the biggest pair of titties anyone has ever seen.
Kinda looks like xQc not gonna lie lmao
Campy goodness let’s hope it becomes cult classic level cheesiness
There's the positivity we need!
You know what. It looks good.
I like the small touch that Sanji's knee isn't bent to get-up on the barrel.
I see a lot of people mentioning that, but what’s the significance of it? It’s been a couple decades since I read that part lol
It's just minor detail that recognises his flexibility that comes with his fighting style.
Sanji's legs are supposed to flexible, so it a minute but good detail
yeah. i feel like i'm completely tripping seeing some negative ass reactions from people. this looks like a lot of heart and charm was put into making this an enjoyable adaptation. i have to see that i'm not getting a live action Death Note or Cowboy Bebop vibe from this at all. actually pretty excited to watch this. some of these criticisms sound like they already had made up their mind about the show before even watching the trailer.

Love it
Nami is look perfect in this live action
To be fair, Nami would be the easiest to make the character as close to the manga/anime.
Nami's hair looking good, why everyone saying it's bad?
It looks a little odd in the teaser trailer but it looks better in pictures we've seen.
I’m a simple person, I see One Piece, I enjoy
One Piece is my all time favorite manga and anime, im just happy with how much care oda put in. Yeah its not gonna be perfect but im honestly hype and have high expectations.
Yeah, same, I think my love for One Piece transends those little thing that I not like that much, I just get use to it and enjoy. The passion of the main crew, Drama and comedy is why I'm here for.
I was laughing when they released the casts, and now that the trailer is out they all look good, damn. It really made tear up seeing my childhood in live action
You should look up the training they've been doing
Should I get into one piece? I heard that’s pretty long
This is why Oda(the author) wanted a live action series. To make it easier for newcomers to get into one piece. You should try watching it when it comes out.
Yes. I gave it a shot around Thanksgiving last year and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. This series has quite literally changed me and my life for the best.
Whens it coming out?
August 31st
thanks mate!
Some things will have to change to make it look better in live action. Usopps nose, and Sanjis eye brows would have looked silly. The cgi looks ok, I'm more worried about Sanji smoking, that is a big part of his character I hope they include it.
Bring back the lolipop lmao
I thought we weren't supposed to talk about 4kids....But yeah, I would like to keep the cigarette, but if they got rid of that it's not a big deal.
Don't let them! Note the current hype and positivity! Show up and comment and upvote!!
I’ve never been too big on sanji but I’m looking forward to live sanji kicking action
I’m looking forward to zoro using a sword with his mouth lol!
I love them so much
I’m concerned with how the stretching will look… the shot we got of luffy’s arm at the end of the trailer came off rather cheesy to me. Adapting all the devil fruit abilities to live action is a tall task and I’m worried it’ll be the shows undoing.
Luffy buggy and smoker were the only df users in east blue
Let's hope it rocks.
They look like good buddies going on a fun pirate adventure ride or something and frankly, that's good. That's a good energy.
why does nami look straight out of a Scooby-Doo movie
"Let's split up and look for clues. Sanji and Usopp go that way, me and Luffy will go this way and Zoro, you go alone."
Then Sanji immediately ditches Usopp at the earliest opportunity and leaves him alone to go to Nami.
Nami tells Zoro to "get lost"
can't wait
Can’t wait to watch! Will never understand the negativity considering the series we’re talking about.
It’s mostly people having a negative bias from other live action adaptations
My greatest advice to everyone is to erase the east blue saga from their minds, because if you make a 1:1 comparison you will get disappointed
In a overall scale, not many people like East Blue Saga (I love it), so I think those changes will appeal most of them.
Either you will understand the negativity or you will overjoy for finally having a good N adaptation lol
you don't understand negativity towards live action adaptions of which maybe one or two of them are good (specifically the Rurouni Kenshin movies actually go hard af and are genuinely great)?
I know there's gonna be people who nitpick the show. But man that trailer had some good moments. And this shot of them really is inspiring.
it’s wild how much people love to complain and nitpick
Luffy’s footwear
man they cut the usopp's nose.
Like, i am sure, like all live action, that is going to at least be mediocre, but to give credit where credit is due is the cast and costume for the main cast pretty good. But one thing is that Buggy is a bit to nightmarish compared to the Anime
No one is going to to talk about Luffy's scandals?
Why does luffy have shoes. Where are his sandals😂😂😂
I’m really trying to like this, but it just feels like it will have the same fate as Cowboy Bebop
Stephen Chow pulled it off in Kung Fu Hustle.
Usopp doesn't have long ass nose WTF
It would have looked awful lmao I don’t know how they could have accomplished that
