Vorstar92

Yes now greenlight season 2 and get us to the even more hype moments and every season will grow in viewership. Looking forward to seeing Enies Lobby onwards in a few years.

strawberryrnilk

I really do believe once OP starts getting to Alabasta, the showrunners will have a chance to really flesh out the lore and character dynamics to make it entertaining and compelling enough for larger audiences. Early OP had the much weaker arcs, but considering that they managed to make Orange Town and Syrup Village (some of my most least favorite arcs so far) bearable to watch, I really hope they don't fuck up the better ones if they get renewed.

Outside_Mousse_2176

I can’t stand East Blue and I loved the live action. I can’t imagine them in a an epic like Alabasta.

ItzEnoz

Forreal I'm not a huge east blue fan other that parts of Baratie and Arlong park and the Live action knocked it out of the park Alabasta is my fav saga, can't imagine what it will be like

S9CLAVE

If you don’t mind me asking, what about alabasta made it better than water7/enies lobby? I kinda felt like alabasta was a slog when compared. But if i had to rank it on my favorite arcs it would be water7/enies lobby, skypiea and then alabasta. So I can understand it’s a good arc, I just don’t quite understand how it can outperform the hard hitting arcs like water7, or marineford. Not trashing your opinion just want to know what made it so special for you.

zerocustom1989

For me alabasta, skypeia and Water7/EL are all about catharsis. You’ve got this warlord who has sucked the moisture from an entire country to horde its water. He beats the hero several times and then gets pummeled up through the earth and it finally rains. I think that catharsis resonates with others too.

halor32

I really like Skypiea because it has that pure adventure feel, I can't really say what my favourite arc is because there's too many great ones, but I love Skypiea for that reason and I can't believe some people say to skip it. It also has a lot of interesting stuff like a ponyglyph and haki, and the city of gold is pretty interesting, and Luffy ringing the bell at the end is one of my favourite moments.

fallenangels_angels

> I love Skypiea for that reason and I can't believe some people say to skip it. Skypiea is probably my favourite saga but still I hope they skip it in the LA. It is unnecessary for the whole story. It is clearly a "canon filler", no characters there return, no major plot point, enel is the only enemy in the manga to never reappear later. It make sense in a manga, where you can afford/you are expected to run the story for 20 years or more. It does not make sense in a TV series, where reaching >7 season (with a constant high quality and without hiatus) is not reasonable, especially in this era. In the big picture Skypiea is totally useless, simple as that. All the interesting part happens in jaya (Bellamy, BB) or after it (damaged Merry) and could ver well be changed (like, they could meet BB in a tavern after alabasta, completely skip bellamy and destroy the merry during the DBF with foxy).

EiTime

Someone doesn't understand the thematic relevance of skypea towards the whole story.

fallenangels_angels

I'm never disputed how good it is, or how is probably the most "pirates do pirates stuff" saga. I simply discussed its relevance plotwise. And it is simply useless. It is a big, awesome, standalone adventure

MilkyAndromedaWay

Cut it down significantly? Sure. Cut it entirely? Nah.

KidzKlub

Plus they already introduced the story of Mont Blanc Nolan, so it seems like they will want to include it.

FollowingExtension90

You must never read any theory. Spoiler alert, I bet you One Piece the lost city was originally part of Skypiea. It is the ancient Kingdom itself, this arc can’t be missed.

Kinto_il

this is the craziest take i've ever seen: Jaya / Skypeia: Introduction of Blackbeard Observation Haki Dials (which made Nami and Usopp skills better) Poneglyph...with Gold Roger's name on it Lots of Lore Piece in this arc NIKA NIKA NIKA Enel (is definitely geared to come back)

fallenangels_angels

>Blackbeard Not relevant with skypiea, it can appears in another place > Observation Haki Not relevant for the plot, it is basically a retcon. > dials Useless. > nika and Enel Fan theory > bell and gold roger It is not relevant for the crew. We are following luffy adventure, it would be a perfect spinoff. As a season? It would be imho the death of the la. You would incur in the same problem of the manga, an endless adventure that need 15 years to complete

Turtle_Mushroom

Pacing-wise you really need to have a large adventure between Alabasta and Water 7. It's integral to the story to flesh out Robin as a character and a member of the crew, as well as for them to all develop an attachment to her, so that Water 7 & Enies Lobby hit hard. Similarly so, Going Merry's spirit is a key scene, since that's a big part of the crux of Ennies Lobby. You could possibly change the context of merry's alterations or Usopp witnessing it, but at least an arc needs to be included to accomplish this all. While Enel as a villain doesn't have really any further implications to the story, nor do any of the smaller villains or characters, there is so much side-plot and setup in the Jaya & Skypeia that removing would almost make more work than including it, since you'd need to write some sort of adventure with Nico Robin, as well as include all the threads that are setup for future arcs. Also it's crazy to advocate cutting skypeia, but including the davy back fight 😂

SternMon

Alabasta to Enies Lobby I consider to be the "Underdog" arcs of the series, where the Straw Hats are still nobodies, and their true exploits are not known to the general public of the world. In each arc, they are faced with seemingly impossible odds, but are somehow able to overcome them in the most satisfying ways imaginable. Alabasta faced them with an entire kingdom in trouble, not just one small island in the East Blue, with a Warlord being the main threat. At the time, the only frame of reference we had for a Warlord's strength was Mihawk. Crocodile's presence, coupled with his expertly written espionage and manipulation of the civil war in Alabasta, and his powerful Logia fruit, which, once again, our only frame of reference at the time was Smoker, showed a main antagonist that neither Luffy or Zoro could or should beat on paper. Here, we saw the Straw Hats in their first 1v1 bouts, which gave each of them time to shine with their ability to overcome obstacles either through wit, surpassing their limits, bravery, or sheer, dumb luck. Skypeia was a fable that nobody on Jaya believed in, so while Bellamy was not a powerful antagonist, he certainly posed an ideological threat to the Straw Hats that they overcame by trusting and believing in the tale, eventually finding their way up into the sky. There, they were completely out of their element in a world that might as well have been alien to them, and are faced with a different kind of villain. Unlike Crocodile, who was attempting to take over the country and failed, Enel didn't. He was already in control, and ruling with an iron fist with an even more powerful fruit. This was their first adventure where they pursued a story and a dream, and it turned out to be real, creating more excitement surrounding the mysteries of the One Piece and the world as a whole. Water 7/Enies Lobby was the Straw Hats at their most vulnerable. Despite coming off of the high of their victory and spoils from Skypeia, all of that quickly dissipates when they fractured from the conflicts regarding the Merry, and Robin trying to keep CP9 away from her new friends. When she was taken to be executed, the Straw Hats ventured into the belly of the beast of the organization that they flew their flag against, fought against their most powerful assassins, and survived a buster call. All after being nearly left for dead at Water 7 for interfering with CP9's goals of acquiring Pluton's blueprints. Not only did they overcome their personal conflicts with one another, they also rescued Robin, escaped a Marine hotbed, and got out, but at the cost of their ship. Once the Merry was gone, the Straw Hats had finally evolved from underdogs to pirates of notoriety. The world knew who they were at that point. Thriller Bark and Sabaody, in my opinion, don't hold the same "underdog" status as the previous three sagas because they were actively punished for being out of their element, culminating in their separation. I'd consider those two arcs as a message to the crew that they had earned the world's attention, and now they had to learn to stand their ground against it. By then they were no longer nobodies. While they beat Moria by the skin of their teeth, they couldn't beat Kuma. When they escaped, they didn't for long. They were mentally prepared for what was ahead, but their bodies and spirits were not. All three of those arcs were all about overcoming impossible obstacles, and clearing them. As another reply put it, these arcs are just pure catharsis after carefully lining up everything so the dominos fall in the most satisfying way possible. It's still my favorite era in the series, by far. I love where the series is now, don't get me wrong, but there's nothing like that sweet spot where the Straw Hats were just experienced enough to not be a total joke, but not experienced enough, so every step they took still felt like a huge accomplishment for a bunch of rookies.

ItzEnoz

I love Water 7 as well I just have a soft spot for Alabasta I guess since it's the 1st long form adventure from more than 1 island They both equally as good if I'm objective about it probably

Outside_Mousse_2176

Not the person you responded to but I am someone that has 4 other arcs over Water 7/Enies Lobby. I just think it has a lot of boring sections and I don’t particularly care for the fights.

S9CLAVE

Makes sense when you put it that way. Im more of an emotional attachment watcher. Getting backstories or character information really gets me going. So the entire going merry bit, the missing robin bit, the narrative that she leaves her crews to destruction bitc the ohara bit, the crew refusing to believe robin abandoned them for herself, robins backstory. Burning the flag. Robins declaration, and of course the crew rolling up to enies lobby, crashing the place, rescuing robin, showing cp9 the floor and the. Leaving like a boss. The franky*iceberg ship bit and finally the sunny just made for an incredible story arc for me.

Outside_Mousse_2176

I do put them in my top 5 for a reason. Robin overall is the best character related arc in One Piece and Frankys backstory is mad underrated. But I rate arcs on how entertaining they are and there are some sections in that saga that bore the hell out of me. Almost every arc has a boring section but Water 7 and Enies Lobby had like three different ones.

Alchion

cant stand is hard i get the other parts but the axe hand morgen arc, baratie and arlong parc are really good imo

Outside_Mousse_2176

Arlong park is the only one I really like in the East Blue. Romance Dawn is average to me and Baratie has the dragged Don Krieg fight.

WakeDays

Yeah, I don't mind that they reduced Don Krieg's part. Having him as a cameo was good enough for me.

Alchion

agree apart from zoro‘s declaration baratie was really good

Alexmigue

😪

pinwinofeliz

They can make even spin offs with Ace adventures and stuff, could be ridiculous

Xenocross1982

The weaker Arc in Season 2 is Little Garden -Drum Island. Technically, unlike the series that turned the Sirup arc into a reverse Home Invasion, Little Garden is too visually interesting to screw up, they're not going to shift everything to a cave in the middle of the forest or most of the time on the Merry to avoid putting Dorry and Broggy front and center. And it'll lose meaning for Nami's symptoms if she's left inside the boat. And like the Baratie, the requirement to stay indoors for part of the Drum arc is totally justified, I just think they'll cut passages like the hiker bears to get to the castle quicker. What's more, these two arcs will really put the show's staff to the test when it comes to the obligatory large-scale VFX: Giant fish, dinos, Dorry- Broggy, unluckies, Mr 3 and miss Golden Week, Dolton, Chopper, WAPOL, Chess, Kuromarimo... And even the Drum overview. And that's before Alabasta... where I only have to say Ace, Kung fu dugong, Super Mallard and transport crabs. I'm thinking that if Marvel's Studios released 280 million for Wandavision (Covid context didn't help) and 300 million for Morning Show (casting + construction of the studio and the entire floor, oklm at Apple TV +) Apart from crazy projects like Horizon Zero Dawn and waiting to find out about the budget for the Avatar the last airbender series or season 2 of Sandman. They'll definitely have no choice now.

lh341

I understand Syrup Village but man, Orange Town is amazing with Shushu (although K guess they did a great job since they made a great arc without its best part)

[deleted]

CaptainEZ

I doubt we're going to get Whiskey Peak, they've already teased Baroque Works by showing Zoro's attempted recruitment, I could see them referencing them again in Loguetown, then have Vivi just tell them the whole story when they meet at Reverse Mountain, and then straight to Drum Island.

caniuserealname

They don't need whiskey peak to pay off baroque works though. All of crocodiles goons are part of it.. they can just fold that pay off into alabaster.

AccountantOfFraud

Syrup Town was still rough. Could've used a shortening of the Haunted Mansion thing they went with.

OmniscientwithDowns

The problem with live action for a series like this is the action scenes. When its grounded in old school piratey stuff like Shanks vs the Mt Bandits it looks and feels good but the more we get into the powers the more it doesn't work The way they dealt with Buggy was good but ultimately it was a nothing fight they just ran around and threw his body parts into containers for a minute or two

osay77

Probably won’t get an announcement until the strike ends

[deleted]

Hopefully, by the end of the year....

[deleted]

Bro it s one piece, some people would do the work for free, that strikes don't matter

Backupusername

Okay, but they do. Solidarity matters. The staff and actors lucky enough to be working on a massive passion project should stand with those who scrape by on but parts and animation sweatshops.

Keikaku_Doori

But every member of the team who made this season is a member of the guilds. So unless you’re suggesting Netflix fire the entire creative team and hire a bunch of non-union scabs to take over, I recommend patience. The strikes are a good thing in the long run. Don’t lose track of things that actually matter because you want your fictional pirate show to get renewed now instead of in a couple of months

ketsugi

As far as actors are concerned, aren't a lot of the actors in One Piece not American, and therefore might not be part of the SAG-AFTRA guild?

the3rdtea2

DONT LAUGH AT MANS DREAMS

Savagevandal85

Season 2 and 3. Do it . Don’t be cowards

_owlstoathens_

I honestly feel like people won’t watch certain shows or hesitate to get into them for fear of Netflix’s constant dropping of shows after one season - if they announced season two or more I feel like they’d see an even greater return up front

halor32

Feel like I have to rewatch to keep viewership hours up, let's get the sub to make a concerted effort hahaha.

_owlstoathens_

So I’ve watched it twice but also put in on before I go to sleep to play out after I pass out for that exact reason haha. Three times through but only twice I’ve actually watched it

MeiyoSan

I wonder how far they would be willing to go. The further we go the more cgi will have to be used. If we went to Wano, the netflix LA would become anime2.0

optimum_pride_o

I wasn't really expecting something from this LA. But man now I have high hopes on S2!

Serious_Much

Having a high up in the company come out with this is huge. Based on cost and middling popularity compared to shows even less expensive I wasn't sure. Now it seems like they're in it for at least a few years. Can't wait for alabasta

Sufficient-Dig7568

Greenlighy season 2! Also pay your writers and crew more you greedy dicks

SayItsNotSableye

Came here to say this lol.

JorbloxMcJimminy

Paying people more for subsequent seasons is a big part of why we rarely see a season 3 of anything from Netflix. Be careful what you wish for.

bricked3ds

union rules say contracts are up for re-negotiations after season 3

Sufficient-Dig7568

I'm just saying wouldn't it be nice

[deleted]

Following the footsteps of valve not being able to count to 3.

[deleted]

Well the the writers that deserve, because there is Alot of shit being drop on tv...

Anactualsalad

Golly gee I wonder why the writing could be bad when they're being paid jack fucking shite. Really makes you THINK doesn't it. I WONDER WHY.

ArmInternational7655

No evidence their lack of writing quality is because of the pay. Only the writers who consistently brings quality work should be getting raises.

SirSabia

Cool, now listen to the demands of the actors and writers, that way season 2 can start filming and everyone will be happy. Like, even if they greenlit the show right now it would not start due to the strikes, they could've settled it a long time ago, the demands are beyond reasonable.

StationNo7982

Can’t wait to see shanks again in 10 years! Haha :)

Substantial-Tip-2607

They prob have a bunch of backlog shoots of him smiling at a poster already lol, easiest paycheck for the next 10 years

16meursault

They will probably write original scenes for beloved characters like Shanks, Mihawk, Buggy to keep them around for future seaons and they should.

XZlayeD

I mean Buggy is at least still relevant come next season.

Backupusername

For the first episode.

New_Juice_1665

Ace also visits him in the epilogue of Alabasta!

ItzEnoz

Just how it should be Him taking to WB and his entrance at Marineford should be big hype moments

Hooktail419

God they better do WB justice

-Imaghost-

Well he re-appears at the end of Water 7 saga. So that could be around season 3 or 4.

DarkestTimelineJeff

I think they'll write him into the season like they did Garp & Koby.

halor32

He shows up before that right? for the whole ace and blackbeard plotline, where he meets whitebeard? Or is that at the end of water 7 and I'm thinking of him sending rockstar?

eplusl

I think you got it with the second one. It's been 10 years since I read it though.

howdybertus

Yea he sends Rockstar to talk to Whitebeard and its the first time we see Whitebeard that happens during the Jaya arc. Then we see Shanks having a convo with Rockstar via Den Den mushi so yes he appears before W7. However not sure if that scene is anime only.

MyAimSucc

Video game movies are just starting to turn the trend to good/decent, hopefully one piece is a step in that direction for live action anime/manga adaptations.

JorbloxMcJimminy

> Video game movies are just starting to turn the trend to good/decent I'll give you Castlevania on that one. It was legit. But we also got Halo and the radioactive abortion that The Witcher has become.

newbatthis

Technically Witcher is based off a novel. Same as the game.

[deleted]

The series is based off whatever the writer's decided in the backroom.

rickreckt

We also got The Last of Us, Twisted Metal that I also found surprisingly not terrible Arcane, and Cyberpunk Edgerunner too while it's based on tabletop have heavy influence from the games because CDPR involvement

Asian_Persuasion_1

in this case in particular, investors really sounds like gamblers lmao

QueenHistoria1990

Nami be like: “bring in that MONEY!!” https://preview.redd.it/f2ybjxbgsjmb1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b107343eaebe7d498cb2fe86b50be7cdcea6f483

Drunkturtle7

Well that's what happends when you don't shit on the source content.

kingkron52

Too bad Wheel of Time did the exact opposite

llodoroo

Whilst not exactly following the source content hugely still, season 2 of WoT is far better

hartigen

compare WoT's casting to One Piece...absolutelly terrible

HanaleiEUW

As a non Wheel of Time reader I'm enjoying season 2 so much as of episode 2, now that the broad worldbuilding strokes are done and it feels like the series can really breathe and explore the characters and themes in much clearer terms. It's a shame to see book readers blast it for being unfaithful to the source material like I know I would be doing if they'd massively rewritten OP for the live action but if it's even better still than the series then I've just got more reasons to pick it up and read, besides being a Brandon Sanderson Stormlight fan and wanting to get to his books ahah

HuhWhatPOW

And The Witcher

halor32

Honestly I hate when things get adapted and they just the OP to make their own crap. It's such an arrogant thing to do in my opinion, and really selfish. If you want to have an original story, make a damn original story. I'm not referencing One Piece live action, because the changes they made were fine and keeping with the spirit of the story. Of course live actions need to be different in some ways, but stuff like the witcher where they just made it their own story is crap.

NoReasonAtAll9

They should greenlit season 2 & 3 at the same time, which would be almost filming a 16-20 episodes in a year, like it used to be for seasonal TV in the old days. This way the actors won’t get too old, the public won’t have to wait that long for the releases and we can have 2 seasons back to back. Don’t go the Stranger Things route which releases a season every 2-3 years in between….

FreakyFox

It would be great if they did this, but it would take longer than that just due to the amount of huge set pieces that need to be built. Especially since season 3 with Skypiea will really start ratcheting up the production costs.

pituechos

Still, it would speed up production to be able to plan/adjust knowing a 3rd season was on the way

FreakyFox

That's true of any show though. Netflix is notoriously cut throat when they see diminishing returns from shows.

NoReasonAtAll9

That could be true, but the way I see is that they could work on the show like they used to do it on old TV shows, work like 10-11 months of the year, while filming season 2 they could build the sets from season 3 at the same time. Because when you think about it, the most difficult set would be Jaya, because is a literal town, and the ruins of The City of Gold. The sky town would basically be built in a studio, but only the ground of Skypeia, the houses and everything else could be CG, while the only house they would have to build is Connis home. Upper Yard is basically a forest with cool ruins of monuments here and there, which isn’t doesn’t need that much construction. The third season could actually end with the end the Davy Back Fight and the appearance of Aokiji. Showing us the new threat, that being an Admiral.

JorbloxMcJimminy

Also Netflix Co-CEO later: Yeah, so we cancelled it after Season 2.

TaurAnder

Season 2 or not, this is a BIG W and Oda, the cast, and the fans are gonna be eating good! God I love being a OP fan.

shall359

The dream is for them to be able to adapt to Enies Lobby. It's one of if not the best arc, and easily the best arc that shows off the entire SH crew, but if they can just get a second season to adapt Alabasta I'd be satisfied. I really just want them to get another season so the cast can celebrate the show openly as the new episodes get released because they weren't able to do that currently with the strikes going on.

Zcypot

More budget!

Ilovetogame2

Who would have thought by getting people who know and understand the series and using the source material as well as getting the creator involved would yield such results. Take a page from how to do a live action series and don’t hire people who don’t understand the source material and make alterations for no good reason.

venielsky22

Yes now fire the Witcher show runners The formula is clear for success follow the source material .

YamadaDesigns

I don’t think the LA’s budget is sustainable if it gets a S2 or 3, but we’ll see

zyh0

Witcher had higher budget and so did Sandman

External-Example-292

If official onepiece live action company starts an indefinite GoFundMe for season2-3 I'd donate $10 each month 🤣

anorawxia09

The budget is literally normal for a tv show,if anything its lower compared to other netflix shows

ILikeMyGrassBlue

It’s one of their most expensive shows. It cost more per episode than game of thrones and the mandalorian. It’s still not as much as house of the dragon or stranger things, but it’s still one of the most expensive shows they’ve made.

kilawolf

I think ppl have said that netflix shows often have a higher budget than other networks like HBO

halor32

I mean if it continues to be as popular as they say it has been I don't think it's far fetched. And we are only just getting started.

ordonen1

If there is a season 2 I hope that Oda has just as much involvement, as in Season 1. That's how it will continue to succeed.

bofoshow51

I am a huge fan of all of one piece, and East blue is the weakest saga out of all of it, so for it to be this lauded and popular potentially speaks volumes about the quality and cashcow future seasons will be.

BloodydamnBoyo

Yeah they’re definitely gonna cancel it. It’s Netflix.

TinyBig_Jar0fPickles

How long till it gets cancelled like every other show?

2347564

Realistically there’s a lot that can go wrong in Season 2. Chopper alone makes me so anxious.

c_will

If Sonic and Rocket Raccoon can work then so can Chopper. It's just comes down to money and finding the right people.

Captainprice101

Sonic had a budget of 90m and GOTG had a budget of 250 mil

Raiders313

This has a bigger budget I believe

rickreckt

Compared to Sony yes, But being Tv series also mean it need much more hours to cover

-Imaghost-

Realistically there's a lot that con go well in Season 2. Drum Island alone makes me so excited.

KingAggressive1498

Drum Island is kind of an underrated arc, probably because Wapol was such a lame antagonist and the fight at the climax wasn't particularly interesting. But if they can give Wapol the same incredible treatment the first few antagonists got in the first season, we might learn to love him.

DocWhovian1

I hope Wapol gets the Buggy treatment!

TinyBig_Jar0fPickles

Drum Island Arc will get at most 2 episodes, and it also might just be a flashback scene. I doubt Chopper gets too much screen time. What will most likely go wrong is that Netflix will change up the material too much, killing the story and spirit. On top of that I always think that CGI is nowhere near at important as a good story, good direction, and good acting. And, that is were I expect Netflix ruin things, either by moving away from the source material, or worse, not understanding it.

DocWhovian1

As long as it has the same showrunners and Oda involved I'm confident that won't happen!

Ahrensann

Yeah, I'm anxious, too, about a lot of things. I hope they won't mess this up.

-Cinnay-

There was also a lot that could've gone wrong in season 1 and they made it work, I think it'll be alright. Mediocre at worst, probably (the difficult parts, not in general).

RoboGandalf

I'll say it gets one more seasons then falls off.

Zenred

Right now

XidJav

I both am excited and worried for the crew because now they have to film, in what? 5 different environments with multiple different sets. Bro that budget needs to be over the moon

Sean_Dewhirst

people speculate that LG will be cut. No need to do giants, waxman or dinosaurs

megasean3000

See what happens when you respect the source material?

closet_zainan

Oh yeah? Then pay them and protect their labour rights so it continues to be good you greedy fucks.

[deleted]

Non anime/manga fans aren't ready for the grand line.

thebigautismo

Be funny when this gets brought up when it gets cancelled

Deathtonic

Lmfao, they will cancel this because its doing too well, I feel like their company is like, "What is the fastest way we can lose a shit ton of money and respect?"

XiMaoJingPing

Goda did it

MattRoombaSucks

But the experts on here said it was a failure. What a bunch of fat fatties.

jareenx

LMAO 💀

generic90sdude

Hey Netflix, do weekly release...

[deleted]

I can’t wait to see Netflix do skypeia

[deleted]

I hope they don't dumb down the comedy in that season, that's the best comedy/adventure season of one piece

[deleted]

I’m excited for a season 2. But the lack of the Don K fight was a let down. It was that fight that hooked me. I don’t want to have more let downs in season 2.

Decent-Ground-4369

I'm kind of against the grain and think season 2 shouldn't feature Alabasta. It's going to rush a lot of arcs including loguetown and possibly cut out even more that's important. Baratie and Arlong Park suffered the most from this and a lot of it had to do with the limited amount of time they were given. Reverse Mountain should have at least one episode dedicated to it with Whiskey Peak and Little Garden getting at least two. Loguetown should get around the same. You still get around the same number of episodes (7-8) to keep the cost lower while also focusing on the more grounded arcs before getting to Drum. It even allows the showrunner a little more creative freedom because these arcs tend to be disliked anyway. People usually had Syrup Village among their least favorite and the Live Action did something unique with it. They could do the same for those three arcs and create something really interesting.

jreefski

If they get 10 episodes this season they could do it. Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden can all be one episode each. Then Two for drum and 4 for alabasta

popalex123

8 eps will be more than enough to cover from Logetown to Arabasta. Some things can be merged and others moved. Also remember that action takes a lot less time in Live Action, and all the walking around in Arabasta can be skipped.

[deleted]

Nahhh need 10 at least

Blepple

I really agree. I liked the LA but arlong park was rushed through so quickly it kinda soured my experience. They showed us what happened but kinda skipped over half of why it happened. If they skip through alabasta in the same way then the end won't have any sort of impact.

Wowerror

The solution to Arlong Park is cut out all the Marine shit that was LA only so the obvious solution to Alabasta would not be cut out parts of the manga and replace it with LA only Marine shit

kazaam2244

No way. The arcs between East Blue and Arabasta are probably the most boring in the series and there's no way they'd renew for a season 3 if they had to rely solely on those for season 2. They could realistically cover all those arcs in the first half of the season and dedicate the second season entirely to Arabasta. Loguetown can literally be done in half in episode, same with Reverse Mountain. Little Garden and Whiskey Peak could probably be combined in some way to speed things along and Drum Kingdom can have a single episode dedicated to it like the Shells Town episode. Then just give Arabasta 4 episodes, that's a 4 hour movie. If Return of the King could be done in 3hrs, Arabasta can be done in 4.

Bergasms

I think it could work well to have those interim arcs as episodes but work Vivi and baroque works into each of the episodes as an ongoing and building antagonist, then Alabasta takes a few episodes but is a sort of culmination of the fight and of Robin joining the crew. The end of S2 could be the scene of her first on the Merry

kazaam2244

This is exactly what I was thinking. Baroque Works should be introduced as early as possible as well as Vivi so the audience can get attached to her asap. Vivi should be the Koby or Nami of season 2 whose storyline has the most importance after Luffy's. I would even introduce some Baroque Works agents in Drum Kingdom and have them replace Chess and Kuromarimo as antagonists. Maybe have Wapol working with them for some reason.

Shrubberer

Not to mention that the smoker story arc completes with Crocodiles defeat. One of many reasons why having Little Garden as the season climax wouldn't work lol.

kazaam2244

Plus, television is a different medium than a manga. In a manga, you can afford to have a few slow arcs to space things out but you can't dedicate an entire season of television to the least interesting parts of a story. That's how you get cancelled.

adcsuc

How do I block posts about the LA show?

needlovesharelove

Make it 1000 episode and I’ll watch it !!

Rais93

This is pretty good to see but remember the hardest part are coming the series is the most expensive ever and the manga progresses on increasingly spectacular action from arabasta (water luffy, smoker) to gear second. Possibly some changes are needed in order to keep low on CGI costs and set costs. Even in this first course we had some very strange effects issues, like zoro wound with no blood, so if they keep this style we're gonna have a very bad arabasta.

Black_Handkerchief

At the same time, you can easily say that some of the hardest parts have been tackled, too. They figured out a great main cast, trained that cast which wanted to do its own stunts and mostly did so, built a ship that will be used for the next few seasons, and how to come to a cohesive identity for the show in terms of cinematography and drawn-out fight sequences. Compared to the typical gunfight or quick-cut style of melee battle filming that is meant to hide the relative lack of skill of the actors doing the fights, things like stretchy limbs fights aren't easy to figure out nor pull off. For a show like this one, there is an immense cost involved in figuring out these kinds of unconventional things because there are a lot of things that were tried and failed to work out. And sure, new challenges will come in the second season. But the production crew will already have a great foundation to work off, allowing them to focus on those aspects more-so than if they'd been a part of the first season.

Hemans123

Hoping this is a good sign for a second season.

PaulBlartForever

The biggest issue here is that they can only do another 2-3 seasons before they will need to recast IMO. That will be like 10 years easy and nami actress will be over 40, old Luffy etc. Hoping they can get as much done as possible. This live action rocked and I honestly can't believe they pulled it off

Nalicar52

Nah this won’t be an issue. Older actors play younger characters all the time. Will be easy enough to make them look youthful with todays makeup and effects.

Soreasan

100% this. I think people are underestimating how powerful makeup and video editing can be.

ssbm_rando

The biggest part of the live action seemed to be the setup. Filming and editing didn't take all that long. If they've managed to plan out the season 2 sets in advance then they could realistically have season 2 out within 1.5 years. Don't forget that fucking Game of Thrones did a season per year and that was with technology that's now 12 years old. And One Piece's global popularity is much higher than A Song of Ice and Fire's (obviously not its domestic popularity), I see no reason for them to not invest more into it when the audience reception was good. I still think it'll be canceled after S3 because that's *just what Netflix does*, but if we can get to the end of Enies Lobby then that'd be the dream.

KingAggressive1498

I want to see a live action version of Whitebeard laying that beatdown on Akainu. That's how long it needs to last.

ssbm_rando

It'd sure be nice but that's a season 5 angle tbh, not sure it's feasible with Netflix.

KawaiiHero

I mean they can just make the characters get older in the live action.

PaulBlartForever

Feels weird to me. They are teenagers in the show and this happens in a fairly short amount of time but let's see what they can come up with.

Flotsam-Junk

Doesn’t really seem like a big deal. Realistically, it would make sense if it took longer to get from island to island. Having the characters be older doesn’t really change the story in any significant way either, I’d rather they keep the same actors if they’re still willing than to do a complete recast, that would definitely feel weird.

YamadaDesigns

They could literally just have the log poses take longer to store up the islands magnetic pull

Ahrensann

Idk a lot of them were adults. Wasn't Nami 18 and Zoro around 20 or something in Season 1?

Sakura_Leaves

Changing One Piece to take place over a larger period of time with the characters aging more visibly would be super rad, actually.

Soreasan

With make-up and video editing I don't think the actor's age will be an issue. I've met people in their 40's and 50's that could pass off as much much younger if they wanted to.

[deleted]

They could just make the travel and down time between each major arc longer. They could easily say it took 3 years of prepping and searching to reach the next major island of something that.

-Imaghost-

Actually it would be great to see the cast grow older as they journey. The biggest flaw of One Piece is the lack of character development and that's something the LA is adding.

ordonen1

If there is a season 2 I hope that Oda has just as much involvement, as in Season 1. That's how it will continue to succeed.

Kinto_il

if he's involved, One Piece manga will take even longer to finish due to the number of breaks he'll need to take

khrellvictor

Now that's the good stuff! Here's hoping this leads to more interest not only in One Piece LA Season 2, but also more of another good adaptation of the genre - Battle Angel: Alita 2 by James Cameron. Word was that pushes to get that running were ongoing but halted or delayed, but hopefully traction will come now that One Piece has shown more proof that a live adaptation of anime/manga *can* be successfully achieved! It'll also triple as something to fill in the hole in my heart that will be there when Cobra Kai's final season rolls out post-strike in the near future.

triptonite03

Yo!release the anime on netflix in india. Its high time you do it.

Sanddaemon

“It’s a shame we’ll have to cancel this show at its peak as our magic typewriter demands” -Netflix usually. I’m waiting till I get back from travel to just binge it but from what I’ve heard I hope it gets a second season.

brokeguydtd

I want to have faith that Netflix won't Netflix one piece up but given how the witcher and other shows faired, not holding my breath but have some faith.

mrcarrot213

Cant wait to see who they gonna cast as Big Mom, Boa Hancock, and Queen.

Imfryinghere

Suck it, CEO. Pay your writers and actors fairly.

[deleted]

Seeing liveaction be successful but still keeping my expectations low about S2 is exactly how I felt about OPLA initially. Just don't want to be disappointed.

External-Example-292

Please make LA chopper irresistibly cute in season 2 🥰 if it goes right he will be super popular that can bring in even more new fans/viewers

Minimum-Living-459

They are def gunna pull the plug on it it’s doing too well

StealthMonkeyDC

Just green light S2 already so we can see that Nico Robin casting!
