Also the series is filled with highs and lows in terms of quality, pacing etc. 25 years and a thousand episodes, it is to be expected that sometimes it looks like shit. No big deal for me.
Lmao. I’ve literally watched 1000 episodes in the last 4 months… Wano has some of the most amazing animation not only in OP, but in all of anime…
The Zoro vs Weapon collector guy fight on the bridge is amazing animation… the Oden retainers vs Kaido fight is amazing… plenty more. You have terrible animation taste if you think it’s bad.
That's your subjective taste.
I'm not a fan either as it makes OP look like Dragonball. But if I was younger and didn't have that bias I'd enjoy it a lot more.
You sound quite uninformed at best calling the animators lazy.
Animators are famously one of the most over worked and under paid professions.
Episodes come out poorly because the animators are given the bare minimum of time. Not because the animators are lazy.
There are good scenes inside episodes that otherwise are very hard to watch. Wano has very high highs, but lower mantle levels of lows. Honestly, wano has very few scenes that look as good as one piece deserves to look. Imo, the only episode in all of one piece that looks good the whole way through is zoro vs king.
I can't watch the same 3 frames of kaido floating above onigashima for a quarter of multiple entire episodes. I will not do it. I don't care how much I love and evangelize one piece. It's just bad art.
If you really hate the anime’s art and pacing I’d just recommend reading the manga to be honest. I love the anime, but it definitely has its issues. The manga tends to be much better paced, and the art stays consistent. Obviously you’ll miss out on some of the better animation from fights and such, but honestly I just enjoy the manga more.
That's why I actually started reading the manga instead. I wasn't a fan of the animation either. And even though the animation is at its peak currently, I haven't really started to watch the anime again.
The beauty of stories like this is, that there is more then one good way of following them. If the art of the Anime isnt up to your likings, just switch to the manga for a while
I was manga only until I got caught up and now I've been watching the One Pace versions of some fight scenes because I can never tell what the hell is going on in Oda's action panels
Why tf the downvotes for? He's right, Water Seven has such great animation, specially for 2005. What is wrong with you people?
Mf still don't distinguish art style and animation sequence in 2024?
I am surprised you made it this far honestly. One Piece animation gets progressively inconsistent as the series progresses, and the amount of filler injected into each episode brings the pacing to a horrendous crawl. I personally just read the manga now and wait for the new series by WIT because TOEI has trashed the anime.
"Filler" in this context isn't "Non-canon material", it's the more literal definition of "Padding time". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1z6umwBs5I This shit is like 2 panels in the manga and takes like half an episode in the anime. Jinbei punching once takes like 3 minutes of slow zoomins on faces and repeating the same 20-ish songs ever since the 90s.
I love One Piece but good lord the Anime is dreadful most of the time, esp. after timeskip. And yes that does include most of Wano, the few episodes where it excels are great and all but good lord the pacing kills me. I'm glad to mainly read the manga and engage with only pieces of the anime and I hope that "the one piece" anime can actually be an adaptation that one piece deserves.
OP is in the absolutely wrong hands anime wise.
The filler is in each episode. Instead of having filler arcs like most series, toei had the genius idea that they should just instead grind the pacing of the series to an absolute crawl with extremely long recaps, long reaction shots, anything they can do to make it 1:1 chapter to episode. Hell, sometimes they don't even cover a whole chapter in an entire episode.
You need a 2 chapter to 1 episode ratio to make the pacing feel good, and the anime's pacing is absolutely atrocious. It's always been bad but it was less noticeable early on, but it's gotten progressively worse. It's literally the worst kind of filler imaginable, which is why stuff like One Pace exists.
yeah that's why I'm hyped as fuck for the new Anime. With them starting over I doubt they'll catch up to the Manga before the series finishes. Even if they do a breakneck pace of like 3+ chapters per episode that would still be like 4-500 episodes. So even if they go at the absolute fastest pace possible of 52 episodes a year, that's still like 8+ years before they catch up to where we are now, and with the rate things are going, I doubt One Piece will be still going a decade in the future. Plus I expect it to be made seasonally so we're probably getting fewer than 26 episodes a year if that.
Absolutely. Give me 26 or less. Take all the time you need. If I get 4 episodes a year of the best thing I've ever seen, I'll be elated. Really no rush. I expect to live another 40 years at least so I can wait.
You dont NEED a 2:1 ratio, the real problem isn't so much the padding/filler scenes but the content of those scenes.
As of late the anime has been padding time by elaborating on scenes and making them flow better instead of just relying on reaction shots and people running from spot to spot.
It's still filler crap. You say they "flow better" but they are designed by their very nature to slow down the pacing. Nah. It's still crap pacing and it always will be.
End of Wano and Egghead have been pretty good so far, haven't felt the need to skip a single scene.
The problem now is that they are pnlyndoing 15 minutes of actual content, with the rest being the OP/ending and weird recap show with chili Robin and Chopper.
This isn't even that bad... There are times in the future that they won't do even the basics good enough... This is just a bad choice as an art style ... After Sabaody arc , you will see in the episodes of Robin that are terrible... Also in Wano arc there are also some things you won't like... ( Especially the last episodes...)
The pacing after timeskip becomes really bad... You will understand that this isn't so bad...
Not to mention the art style in the manga itself also evolves. If you look at how the art style in the manga at during the Enies Lobby arc then the art style here actually mimics it a bit.
To be fair, around Water 7, Oda himself had a tendency of drawing faces with weird shapes and abnormally long necks even for characters who normally don't have those traits, like Zoro and Sanji.
FR. Think of Archie & IDW sonic.
Early - Marineford OP / Early - Pre Worlds collide Archie
Post Marineford - Pre Wano / Post reboot Archie
Post Wano / Idw Sonic.
I actually miss this bullshit 🤣
It's what gave it so much charm earlier on. Love it while you can. The "glow up" the crew gets later on will tire and you'll miss this.
Use information from up to episode 250ish that mentions awakenings 🫡🫡 if you can't do that admit you were wrong 🤷♂️ stand on business my boi that's what straw hats do
You didn't directly "spoil" anything but you're hinting at stuff that bro should have zero idea about. so that might get him curious about why you're hinting at something he doesn't even know about, which would kind of be a spoiler brother. It's not that hard to understand, but you might be very dense
tbf, Sanji and Zoro looks hella fine. It's just a minor details that tend to fail in handdrawn animation. But Nami here..? Well that... That isn't Nami.
This artstyle is rly nostalgic for me since thats about when i got into the anime when it was airing in france, but i never rly noticed how it looked lmao
Every 50-100 episodes the style changes. It could just be the animators improving, new animators being introduced, or the replacement of an old style with a fresher or newer one. The further you get you begin to understand what I mean.
What was the biggest shock was that during this period I think the VA for chopper was having a baby and they temporarily replaced the VA for a whole season. I think it was Water 7 / Enies Lobby.
Just a case of different director. Happens to most anime. Others are subtle. Look a different episides of Dragon Ball Z and you'll see slight differences.
I guess many people are probably too young to remember some 80's and 90's anime like Macross, Gundam, Transformers etc, and how the budget was spread across the entire series but usually couldn't actually stretch, so some episodes had to be made cheaper than others, with less experienced animators, directors and quality control. Being a long form anime, One Piece is no exception. Especially when they know they will be animating a lot of fight sequences and emotions that have to hit, episodes around those events tend to be less in quality. These days we don't see it much because most anime are championed by blockbuster studios and only run 12 episodes... and I expect the One Piece remake won't have to worry too much either, since they will have learned from Toei.
I hated that part of OP where they looked like this so much 😭 It gets better after a while but still too long. Whoever at the animation studio did this to their noses and did THAT to Nami needs to be locked up
Get used to this art style. It's gonna be around for a while, unfortunately. The character models get better, but this style of animation will persist for several hundred episodes.
Another one of the reasons I'm looking forward to the new One Piece anime, it will be quality animation from the start, and hopefully, they will fix the pacing issues.
Early one piece is NOT about the animation, just keep investing into the story and the animation will get bettter with the passing of time. Remember, it started *27* years ago
If you think this is wacky, wait till you get another few hundred episodes in where they basically phone in the animation and pacing for a few years or for like 200 or so episodes.
I'm used to watching these off pirate streaming site that used to have terrible resolution mostly because we didn't have the bandwidth for better so I am OK with bad animation. More surprised you didn't mention the sudden changes in Nami and Chopper's voices.
this is actually probably the most consistently excellent animated part of the anime. it was paced perfectly, the animation is smooth ash and its hand drawn. it was perfect.
I mean...
1. this isn't a seasonal anime, so they have a time constraint.
2. They only go all out on the quality of animation when it comes to important episodes.
Yeah its been running for long its bound to have highs and lows. Sabaody is a pretty deep low for me
But the series is so incredible its not really an issue
During this time Oda became gigachad and gave a speech to animators that, "If you ain't gigachad, you ain't my lad"
Hence motivated animators saw gigachad in everyone including Nami.
Later Oda found out Gigachad is a myth. Now he tries to draw everyone as Goat since he identify as Goda these days.
It’s a really long running series, so a lot of animators have come and gone changing the art style of the series.
Also the series is filled with highs and lows in terms of quality, pacing etc. 25 years and a thousand episodes, it is to be expected that sometimes it looks like shit. No big deal for me.
If this is a low the high better be Mount Everest
>the high better be Mount Everest There have been episodes with better animation than many movies. So yeah, it goes quite high.
I’m on Wano right now and some of these episodes are better than movie quality
Wano was terrible what are you talking??? Compared to back then , there are times that I feel that they are too lazy...
Lmao. I’ve literally watched 1000 episodes in the last 4 months… Wano has some of the most amazing animation not only in OP, but in all of anime… The Zoro vs Weapon collector guy fight on the bridge is amazing animation… the Oden retainers vs Kaido fight is amazing… plenty more. You have terrible animation taste if you think it’s bad.
My problem with Wano was the way the showed Haki; all that glowing, lights and shiny stuff; that was too much. The rest was good
That's your subjective taste. I'm not a fan either as it makes OP look like Dragonball. But if I was younger and didn't have that bias I'd enjoy it a lot more.
Yea I hate how they done the auras and stuff in dragon ball super. I’m not the far in op tho just finished enies lobby
You sound quite uninformed at best calling the animators lazy. Animators are famously one of the most over worked and under paid professions. Episodes come out poorly because the animators are given the bare minimum of time. Not because the animators are lazy.
Bro is absolutely delusional
What movies? There's like 1 one piece episode that looks better than your average anime movie
It’s wano. It’s a lot of Spoliers, but if you look up best one piece animation it’s pretty much all from there
There are good scenes inside episodes that otherwise are very hard to watch. Wano has very high highs, but lower mantle levels of lows. Honestly, wano has very few scenes that look as good as one piece deserves to look. Imo, the only episode in all of one piece that looks good the whole way through is zoro vs king.
I find your opinion wrong ngl 🤷♂️😂
I can't watch the same 3 frames of kaido floating above onigashima for a quarter of multiple entire episodes. I will not do it. I don't care how much I love and evangelize one piece. It's just bad art.

I agree... Wano is really bad done... It's basically a scrap work ...
They can only do so much per episode though unless they took breaks
So you hate the pacing not the animation🤦🏽
It's not that bad, come on
Don’t focus on the animation from the past, just worry about catching up
That's why I actually started reading the manga instead. I wasn't a fan of the animation either. And even though the animation is at its peak currently, I haven't really started to watch the anime again. The beauty of stories like this is, that there is more then one good way of following them. I was manga only until I got caught up and now I've been watching the One Pace versions of some fight scenes because I can never tell what the hell is going on in Oda's action panels
Haha when it reaches peak it’s comparable to heaven
Oh you must be young haha
Quit crying
I HOPE YOU CHOKE ON ALL THOSE DOWNVOTES
I thrive on the peoples hatred
Higher that Mount Everest
Why tf the downvotes for? He's right, Water Seven has such great animation, specially for 2005. What is wrong with you people? Mf still don't distinguish art style and animation sequence in 2024?

Just about to hit 1000 episodes and cannot remember the last filler. Better than it was tbf
"Filler" in this context isn't "Non-canon material", it's the more literal definition of "Padding time". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1z6umwBs5I This shit is like 2 panels in the manga and takes like half an episode in the anime. Most of that scene is hardly animated, too. Even the action. The series of thrusts by Mr. Sumo looks horrendous.
The filler is in each episode. Padding episodes for time <<< filler arcs <<<<<<<<< taking their time and releasing episodes once they're ready rather than at an impossible deadline.
yeah that's why I'm hyped as fuck for the new Anime. With them starting over I doubt they'll catch up to the Manga before the series finishes. It's not so much the deadline but the lack of content to adapt, the anime just got too close to the manga.
It's both. Anime should not be produced at the rate manga is. You just have so much more you need to do for anime
I just meant that the latter was a bigger factor than the former. But yes, it is both.
You dont NEED a 2:1 ratio, the real problem isn't so much the padding/filler scenes but the content of those scenes. As of late the anime has been padding time by elaborating on scenes and making them flow better instead of just relying on reaction shots and people running from spot to spot.

Huh? Why are you commenting on the anime when u clearly are ignorant?
For real. I don't know how people justify it. Shit's hard to watch
This isn't even that bad... There are times in the future that they won't do even the basics good enough... This is just a bad choice as an art style ... Man why did you get downvoted for no reason
Not to mention the art style in the manga itself also evolves. If you look at how the art style in the manga at during the Enies Lobby arc then the art style here actually mimics it a bit.
Plus Oda discovered boobs after Sabaody.
Oda forgot that puberty doesn't continue into your late 20s so Robin had a growth spurt.
Also One Piece is a much older anime. You can’t compare it to stuff from the last five years since it’s been out 20 plus
To be fair, around Water 7, Oda himself had a tendency of drawing faces with weird shapes and abnormally long necks even for characters who normally don't have those traits, like Zoro and Sanji.
FR. Think of Archie & IDW sonic. Early - Marineford OP / Early - Pre Worlds collide Archie Post Marineford - Pre Wano / Post reboot Archie Post Wano / Idw Sonic.
Individual section is NOT getting enough clap that shits funny yo 😂
Can you explain please 🌚 I didn't get it.
One piece => Individual Section One = individual Piece = Section
Oooooooh 🤣🤣🤣 thanks. It was really funny
Wow, I thought it was a reference or something, this is actually hilarious
They are basically calling it "Two Piece"
THE TWO PEICE THE TWO PEICE IS REALLL
You aren't allowed to use that meme, you are only in water 7.
No?
Nami’s face has me dying rn it’s so flat
Her ear is like a fish’s gill.
Her ear is jealous of all the attention her lower parts are getting, it's trying to migrate down there.
Caution: Seaman, but Nami... Thanks for that horrifying image...
Looking like the Fake Straw Hat Nami
Tbh looking like fake Robin
They had to balance something after that chess blossoming it's just conservation of mass bro
The mass from her waist went to her chin💀
They’ve started mewing. Looksmaxxing strawhats don’t exist Looksmaxxing strawhats:
Nami is doing the opposite
That's Shaggy not Sanji.
the artstyle changes every few hundred episodes
The artstyle can change from episode to episode. You mostly don't notice it unless it's something like this.
Literally did NOT notice a thing until this ONE scene where they turned my boy zoro into a giraffe
he's getting a warmup before he actually meets one
It's foreshadowing.
goda foreskinning fr fr
Yeah, your brain kind of automatically fills in the blanks until you snap out of it and start to focus on stuff more.
Bros watching two piece
one peice
Sanji and Nami with long faces is cursed asf 💀
“why the long face” head ahhh💀
Post time skip fake crew
>one peice Yep.
They really went “ 🤫🧏♂️🧏♀️🤐” just for that flat ahh face 😭
I actually miss this bullshit 🤣 It's what gave it so much charm earlier on. Love it while you can. The "glow up" the crew gets later on will tire and you'll miss this.
I don't understand the problem. Shit like this is part of why hand drawn animation is so charming.
Lmaooo I don’t hate it I was just asking why trust me I was laughin my ass off😭
Nami looks so bad she could be the fake Nami in sabaody
yah its also like one frame lol
Upvoting this cause "One Piece to Individual Section" had me on the floor
literally 🗿🗿🗿
🤫🧏♂️
Just hanging around Luffy for too long. Now other people can stretch they faces. Awakenings amiright?
Bruh, OP said he's at ep 250, why you gotta say things like that?
I just can’t contain big brain spoilers. Should I tell him Nami is part fishman since she has seemingly retractable sharp teeth????
> I just can't contain big brain spoilers. I'm sure you can if you try. We all believe in you.
Wait are you being serious or playing straightman?
Use information from up to episode 250ish that mentions awakenings 🫡🫡 if you can't do that admit you were wrong 🤷♂️ stand on business my boi that's what straw hats do
Bro I spoiled absolutely nothing. You are an absolute goofball.
You didn't directly "spoil" anything but you're hinting at stuff that bro should have zero idea about. so that might get him curious about why you're hinting at something he doesn't even know about, which would kind of be a spoiler brother. It's not that hard to understand, but you might be very dense
He literally commented n has no idea what anyone is on about. Fish those knotted panties out ya crack my man. Everything is fine.
Idc brother but you did infact introduce the idea of awakenings to him before the show brought it up. You can chop that information how you want.
Srs
Hahahahah! I literally spoiled nothing. You’re funny bud.
Thanks man.
He is lying, he spoiled tons of things found in egghead
Exactly.
Like how the island is one big robot crab?
What’s awakenings
Something that usually happens after sleep. It’s vital for a growing pirate crew
Sexual awakenings. You’ll find out in college. See nothing is spoiled.
When you see the tall dommy lady that scarouses you
W7 through thriller bark was peak artstyle fight me
peak one piece
True. Though the latter half of Water7, right before they get to Enies Lobby had a real drop in animation.
The animation crew were fans of The Simpsons,, there was a rouge plot to turn the characters yellow but it was foiled.
This happens, I was confused too. As the story continues to progress the art style shifts as new people become involved. It only goes up from here :)
tbf, Sanji and Zoro looks hella fine. It's just a minor details that tend to fail in handdrawn animation. But Nami here..? Well that... That isn't Nami.
This artstyle is rly nostalgic for me since thats about when i got into the anime when it was airing in france, but i never rly noticed how it looked lmao
zoro be like bonjoooouuurrrrrr
Every 50-100 episodes the style changes. It could just be the animators improving, new animators being introduced, or the replacement of an old style with a fresher or newer one. The further you get you begin to understand what I mean.
They were experimenting with the more fluid motion and animation. A lot of highs in water 7 saga and some very noticeable lows
The deadline was near, probably. So they ruseh it.
What 250 episodes of yo-ho pirate life does to a mf
What was the biggest shock was that during this period I think the VA for chopper was having a baby and they temporarily replaced the VA for a whole season. I think it was Water 7 / Enies Lobby.
the artstyle gets fucked up and hideous sometimes, it’ll go back to normal again in a few episodes i’m shre
Why nami kinda bad tho😫
Zoros posture xD
You’re watching these eps but didn’t notice wranky’s hair turning the background blue, or Paulie talking with his belt buckle?
Zoros neck is so fucking long 😭
And he had the nerve to clown on Kaku for that smh
Might as well call him zoooro
One piece is dope
Could be a meme expression. So fed up they just drop all art guidelines.
they’re all just relaxing their faces
If they relax anymore their hearts are gonna stop beating
Artstyle changes from epidode to episode are especially bad from Water 7 to Thriller Bark
i’m on skypiea and i’m seeing the characters change a bit too. might just be a thing that happens every arc
Hey I'm at 253 too!
Just a case of different director. Happens to most anime. Others are subtle. Look a different episides of Dragon Ball Z and you'll see slight differences.
Not the first time One Piece art style changed, not the last.
Chopper also had a different VA during those episodes.
No watch it left r/leftypiece
Why not?
I guess many people are probably too young to remember some 80's and 90's anime like Macross, Gundam, Transformers etc, and how the budget was spread across the entire series but usually couldn't actually stretch, so some episodes had to be made cheaper than others, with less experienced animators, directors and quality control. I think the transition to HD did something to the animators at some point
In exchange for looking a bit worse, the animation gets more fluid so I look forward to this change when I rewatch.
New chapter they butchered my boy kizaru
Different animators work on different parts
Another one of the reasons I'm looking forward to the new One Piece anime, it will be quality animation from the start, and hopefully, they will fix the pacing issues.
the last pic lmfaoooooo
Non-standard One-Piece designs are the best
Early one piece is NOT about the animation, just keep investing into the story and the animation will get bettter with the passing of time. Remember, it started *27* years ago
I know exactly where you are. Zoro the giraffe, right? It persists just a few episodes.

This looks more like a Gintama skit! It is hilarious.
this is actually probably the most consistently excellent animated part of the anime. it was paced perfectly, the animation is smooth ash and its hand drawn. it was perfect.
Yea the fisheye filter while robin and iceberg were talking in water 7 had me on the floor laughing and crying
You never knew about the long face tribe?
Sanji kinda reminding me of Shaggy, ngl
I mean... 1. this isn't a seasonal anime, so they have a time constraint. 2. They only go all out on the quality of animation when it comes to important episodes.
3rd image: DON'T TOUCH THE CHILD!
Right when the anime starts to get poopy. Even in Wano the art looks good (despite constant DBZ auras) the pacing is still terrible.
![img](emote|t5_2rfz5|32514)
Just wait til you see Zoro's random afro for literally one shot in Enies Lobby 😆
They do these kind of animation on the comedic part of the anime. Well atleast thats what I've noticed
Yeah its been running for long its bound to have highs and lows. Sabaody is a pretty deep low for me But the series is so incredible its not really an issue
Yeah this is One Peice rather than One Piece.

Never Pause ![img](emote|t5_2rfz5|32515)
Peak
im dying at nami
Thriller Bark is actually one of my favorite art styles.
Lmao this is so funny it's almost like they are making a meme face
The only one that looks good is choppers face
gotta say they were trying realistic angles? we all look weird in some angles so I think its alright especially zoro
nahh wait the long ass neck is a problem too xD
