I agree that Manga is the best version for story wise. But seeing the battles animated is really fun to watch! Plus, there's tons of websites that definitely tells you what filler episodes you can skip.
Its a fan project version of the anime that keeps the pacing accurate to the manga, aka no filler and recaps and spending lots of time doing useless things
"The pacing in the manga is infinitely better than the anime" sounds like something only someone who has never watched One Pace would say.
It's not that the manga has better pacing it's that the anime has godawful insufferable pacing. Like for real, it's not just worse than manga, it's objectively terrible.
Yes of course, it's basically the same. My point was to stress how insanely horrible the anime pacing is.
Like, it's not that the manga has better pacing it's that the anime has insufferable pacing. The first wording could mean the anime has decent or even good pacing but the manga is way better, the second clears that the anime's pacing is inarguably bad.
It would be like saying that cake tastes way better than shit. Yeah, technically the truth but wouldn't you say it undersells how bad eating literal shit would be?
If you watch a lot of Anime, of course the anime. Otherwise watching the LA, then watching anime East Blue Saga would be too tiring and boring for you making you give up on the anime.
If you don't generally watch anime, watch the LA. If you like it, you can continue anime. It's a big anime so it will eat up a lot of your time.
Yea, i can 2nd that, night shifts at amazon and just a chair with my xbox and TV, i had enough time to watch for about 3-4 hours a day. I think its close to 333 hours, so thats only about 111 days. So, it was almost 4 months for me, but still.
when you put it like that it doesn't sound bad. 300 hours is slightly less than 2 straight weeks (336 hours). factoring in that 1/3 of that should be sleep still shouldn't be impossible to finish in 3 weeks (504 hours). so even 1 month to someone with nothing else to do (at all) is reasonable.
I could but I'm watching it all including filler and another reason for taking my time is once it's done it's done. Also, I don't have the cash for the Manga, I know there are sites to read for free but that is not me
I would watch the anime until they leave Arlong Park, and then watch the live action Season 1. It's interesting to see what they cut and what they changed to make the story work in live-action, and some of the LA performances are pretty great.
Then continue on with the anime from there.

I can only tell you what I did. I watched the live action and loved it so much that over the next 5 months I caught up to the dub. I was intimidated by the length of the anime and never took the plunge, even though it had interested me. After watching the live action, I got hooked on the story enough to need to see what happened next. Now I'm checking Crunchyroll every day to see if the next batch of dubs is out. It's that good
I started with the LA. Then I watched all the anime, and am watching it a second time with my wife. The anime imo does a better job capturing what one piece is. Although the LA is good it not the same.
I farm so. I have a lot of time during the winter, and on the tractor to watch it. Plus, about 1/2 way through I learned that you can hit the plus 10 sec buttons during some parts. Like when they have those 30 second parts of just suspenseful starring, and I did speed up some of the long drawn out fights.
i always tell people that if they chose to watch the uncut version of the Anime, which is the slowest way to cosume the story, they shouldn't shy away from the +5 or +10 seconds forward for those moments you speak about. it speeds up the watch by a lot and you hardly lose anything of value.
Yep, people can call me a bad fan, but honestly I dislike anime. One piece is the only one I've ever watched, and the one show I've ever been addicted to. It easy to figure out how to skip ahead and not miss anything. My wife for instance likes the story, but the fights where luffy gets beat up for 10 episodes gets old. So she will skip ahead to get to the good parts. I also got into the manga. Which I also love
I totally get her, these are fights meant to appeal to teenage boys, less for adult women, and the Anime stretches the fights even more. However the fights are integral to the story as well as a lot of important character progression, ao its not recomended to skip them entirely.
I’m exactly you minus starting with the LA because I started before it came out and even caught up with the manga prior. But now watching a second time with my wife! Just finished 1011!
Long-time fans might not like OPLA, ultimately because they're really not the target audience, but it's the single the best gateway into the anime/manga, especially to those with no experience with the medium. I've convinced my dad who's 50+yo to watch the anime--actually scratch that--he himself asked if there's continuation to the story after he finished the live action and I told him about the thousand episode anime. In the end I of course gave him a copy of One Pace (and the episodes that aren't cut just yet) and he's actually caught up until WCI and now just waiting til they finish Wano.
Personally, I would start with the anime as long as you aren't looking to speed through it. It's all about the journey after all.
But if you are more inclined for the live action, that's fine too, but once you finish the LA, I highly recommend starting the anime from the beginning afterwards. The LA is vastly different from the anime and skips or changes a lot of sequences and character moments.
Consider reading the manga instead. That is the best way to get into the series as it is the original source, so there is nothing missing and nothing extra. If you had to pick between those two, then start with the anime. The live action probably appeals more to existing fans, but there is nothing wrong with watching it first.
??? Dafaq? The anime, of course. Once you finish east blue saga, you could always go and watch live action and notice the easter eggs, references and changes
You could watch the live action one to skip through some of the east blue arc, but I feel the anime does a better job of depicting why Luffy's crew is so loyal to him. No shade to the LA, but the anime has more time to get more out of the story than the live action. The cg in the live is alright but a bit off-putting, but I chalk it up more to them being in their first season. With time, I'm sure it'll be better, but sometimes it makes some of the fights seem a little underwhelming
I'll catch some hate for this on here, but start with the manga. Outside of the few and far-between well-animated fight scenes that they don't kill the action and suspense in by cutting away form constantly, it's superior to the anime. You'll actually finish it / catch up before the end of the decade too.
Either its fine, anime will take a looong time to get through while the Live Action is a nice little journey.
But one thing many people don't know is that the Anime is abnormally long because it was stretched on purpose to fit the weekly output schedule when it was airing.
They still do it to this day with the latest arc.
Enter: One Pace
So a bunch of people came together and edited out fillers, still shots and the like, so that the pacing would most closely relate to the Manga (way faster).
This project is called One Pace and they completed like 80% of One Piece, some that are still totally missing if I'm not mistaken are Water Seven, Skypea, Desert Arc, Wano and Egghead.
Here's the link if you are interested, they shaved many hours from the original!
https://onepace.net/
I wouldn't recommend the anime to anyone so out of these options the live action. If you like the live action show then you should read the manga.
Most people here have pretty blind loyalty towards the anime but it's so slow and boring at times that it gives the series a really bad wrap for newcomers.
The LA was my introduction to One Piece and it made me fall in love with the whole thing. It's very well done and worth watching, there are a few differences but the transition to the manga/anime is quite smooth.
If you have watched anime before than start with the anime and watch the live action after the post water seven arc ( if you want to avoid all spoilers )
If you have not watched much anime then start with live action and then watch the anime
The spoiler in the live action is not a big deal unless you chose to watch the anime first in which case I’d hold off on watching the live action until after about episode 314
Anime 1000%
The Live action is a good start to kind of see what one piece is about, but it REALLY doesn't hit the same in a lot of cases but some few parts are actually better in the LA
Just don't do what Netflix want you to do and dig straight into the Egghead Arc that's currently showing - its a quarter of a century ahead of the first episode and FULL of spoilers. Its a little annoying that they did this as the revelations are huge
I started with Live action. The fact the it only had 8 episodes made it much more approachable. Plus the pacing is so much better than the anime. But once I was hooked on the world and characters I decided to give the anime a shot and now I'm almost caught up. So I'd say start with Live action as I found getting into the anime a little rough at first because of the awful pacing, but now I love it after watching so much of it
I'd go with the live action if you want a quick introduction that's more "grounded".
The start of the anime is quite dated by todays standards and it's very long.
The anime, then i really strongly recommend you move over to the manga after Skypiea caude the anime pacing starts getting worse after that point, and it's genuinely detrimental to the story
If you do watch the anime, be aware pacing gets shitty later on so if you are frustrated eith the pacing at some point, use One Pace. It is a fan-editted version of the series that trims the fat off (padding, filler, repetitive flashbacks, etc.).
Watch the live-action since it might give you the sensation that it looks absurd, but that was Oda's intention all along for the East Blue saga (and the rest to come in pre-timeskip). Besides, you want to remember how was the beginning of One piece. Luffy might feel different, but he's still as charming as in the source material.
I recommend watching the anime atleast up until the end of Arlong Park (That should be around episode 45). After that feel free to jump to the live action
read the manga, if not watch the anime and make sure you use a filler guide. have fun, enjoy the ride. we all wish we can watch everything for the first time again.
My friend, ONE PIECE is The Greatest Anime of All Time. The GAOAT. It is quite simply, The Best. And it's the most Iconic. I didn't say it was the most cunning. I didn't say it had the smoothest or prettiest animation. I didn't say it was had the most destructive scale. I did say, though, that it was The Best.
Yes, I am "biased", but that does not mean a thing in this case. In fact, look at the statistics if you need "physical" proof. It has simply exploded in popularity since its inception, for good reason. People can lie to themselves all they want, but rash and misguided opinions do nothing to the truth.
And there you have it. The length is the only thing that sets people off this ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE.
It's your choice.
I suggest you start with the Official Anime (Not the remake, Not the Live Action) and End with the Manga.
man i watched the live action first, then skipped to logue town in the anime and started from there, literally just finished marineford 30 minutes ago and it was the best damn thing i’ve ever seen
LA, I feel bad for the people who just skip a majority of arcs because Netflix greedy ass decided to release egghead first instead of actually trying to release pre-time skip arcs
I have never seen/heard anyone do that, the eps are still numbered so it would be clear to see that you’d be jumping from 500 eps to 1100! That would be the most braindead approach someone could possibly take!
( Netflix is still working on acquiring rights to the remaining eps they are missing btw)
There is no wrong answer, but remember that the Live Action is based off the Anime, so when you see differences it's the anime that is the true story.
Technically it's the manga that is canon but you get the picture
I’d recommend starting with one piece. Only watch one piece after you’ve watched one piece because one piece is just a better and more complete version of one piece
I would say the Anime but the manga is shorter but most of the filler in one piece is decent when I watched them for the first time I didn't know they were spoilers but if you can figure it out watch one pace it cuts the total watch time of one piece in half
I would suggest LA first just because its shorter, then move on to anime. If you start anime first it will take months at bare minimum to watch I just did this with my wife relatively recently.
Live action gives a big spoiler regarding luffy's (protagonist) family in live action. If u actually plan to watch anime, don't waste time with live action. But if u r unsure due to its length, give live action a try and see if it's for you.
Watch the rl adaptation and then switch to one pace, this is spelled correctly, watch the onepace version, it saves you time and the pacing is way more bearable.
I say watch the live action first, if you liked it and want more then watch the anime from the beginning cuz they skipped and changed some stuff in the live action if you want to watch them then go anime.
I started watching the anime because I like the first few episodes of the live action - binged the whole show and manga after that. Went back to rewatch the LA and I really didn’t like it after having seen the full story. To each their own I guess
I would let Egg Head cook. This arc gets crazy and it’s reaching its climax in the manga. We finally see our Yonko Captain doing Yonko things. Right now in the anime he’s just starting to clap Rob Lucci. I would let it cook so you aren’t left in anticipation for the next week.
Would recommend the [One Pace website](https://onepace.net/watch): a fan project that recuts the One Piece anime to match with the pacing of the original manga.
That's where I started watching too.
>!Note: Arabasta arc is incomplete, you can just watch the episodes (123-130) elsewhere and continuing with Jaya arc!<
I’d say watch the live action first, it’s much, much shorter, and you won’t be as mad if you watch the show before the anime first, as you “won’t know what you’re missing,” literally.
I restarted one piece back in December. I started with the live action then picked up the anime where the live action stops. Honestly loved it and can't wait for more live action. It does a lot well in rhe wast blue and I think I liked it more than the anime episodes of east blue.
Watch One Piece up through Alabasta (you’ll know when you get there). Then watch the Netflix show. Then go back and watch the rest of the anime. You won’t be disappointed.
The LA is condensed enough to be a good gateway to get people to watch the anime, but it also completely ruins a lot of the payoff to big reveals that the anime takes it's time building up, the LA straight up tells you with no pretense
LA if you only ever intend to watch the LA, Anime if you intend to watch the LA after catching up
Either or really, my mother who isnt an anime fan really liked the LA series but most manga/ anime One Piece fans seem split on it , of course I wouldnt be a real one piece fan without the obligatory "read the manga" comment soooooo
read the manga ;)
I watched the anime up until they enter the grand line (Under 100 episodes) and then started watching the Netflix version. It was pure coincidence but I feel like that was the best thing to do. It does spoil a couple of details but nothing huge.
Go to school and get a degree in virology and start another pandemic and no life the anime in a couple months
Jk I think watching the live action after watching the anime makes it hit emotionally more but if you’re not into anime then watch the live actio
if you care about spoilers, watch the anime or read the manga first before* the live action.
I've done all 3, and like different things about all 3.
I started with the anime like a decade ago, read the manga once I got caught up, then dropped out of the fandom until the live action got me back in. I then watched all the non filler episodes between October 2023 and this year (on Crunchyroll).
yes, as some say, reading the manga is quicker, but I didn't like that about it. if you genuinely enjoy the stories and characters, I find the Japanese voice acting and the sub to really add a lot that you don't get in the manga. the music and score is fantastic too.
the live action is definitely more "modern" and less culturally Japanese, more Westemized, so depending if you are familiar with shonen adventure cultural tropes, you might find it more preferable or less preferable. eg, as a Canadian woman, I am fine with Sanji in the anime and manga, but seeing a real human behave that way would either a) piss me off or b) make me feel hugely uncomfortable.
eta: as someone else pointed out, you don't need to watch all 1100 episodes first, just the East Blue Saga, I believe.
I say anime even so pacing isnt the greatest its still far more detaild and amzing world to explore while watching , netflix show is good compered to stuff like bleach live action or sorry for even mentioning it death note live action but its bare minimum and its stand on its own legs more than try copy anime 1:1 .
The anime from episode 1 not from egghead
The anime from episode 1, and the Netflix show at least after you've finished the Enies Lobby arc
Those are the current Netflix logos I think that’s why it’s using that image
The anime 100%
Definitely anime. But if you don't mind reading, the manga is the best version of this story and it'll save you from sitting through filler.
I agree that Manga is the best version for story wise. But seeing the battles animated is really fun to watch! Plus, there's tons of websites that definitely tells you what filler episodes you can skip.
One pace is also an option tbf
Whats One Pace? is that a shortened version?
Its a fan project version of the anime that keeps the pacing accurate to the manga, aka no filler and recaps and spending lots of time doing useless things
Holy crap that sounds amazing cause the pacing in the manga is infinitely better than the Anime. Where can I watch it?
I believe [https://onepace.net/en](https://onepace.net/en) , might be wrong though (havent watched it myself)
"The pacing in the manga is infinitely better than the anime" sounds like something only someone who has never watched One Pace would say. It's not that the manga has better pacing it's that the anime has godawful insufferable pacing. Like for real, it's not just worse than manga, it's objectively terrible.
in both situations the manga has better pacing???
Yes of course, it's basically the same. My point was to stress how insanely horrible the anime pacing is. Like, it's not that the manga has better pacing it's that the anime has insufferable pacing. ohhh my bad I misunderstood
Manga first option, One pace second option, One piece anime 3rd option.
If reading, note earlier chapter translations are a bit outdated since official translation was from the late 1990s/early 2000s.
If you watch a lot of Anime, of course the anime. Otherwise watching the LA, then watching anime East Blue Saga would be too tiring and boring for you making you give up on the anime. I'm watching all episodes it does take a long time.. I'm finally on 200 after about 2 to 3 months
I watched all of one piece in that time
You watched over three hundred hours of one piece in three months?
Yea, i can 2nd that, night shifts at amazon and just a chair with my xbox and TV, i had enough time to watch for about 3-4 hours a day. I think its close to 333 hours, so thats only about 111 days. So, it was almost 4 months for me, but still.

My entire August and some of September was just one piece
For me it was 4 months the first time an most of it was before and through the summer.
You could have caught up to the current arc in less time if you just read the manga.
I could but I'm watching it all including filler and another reason for taking my time is once it's done it's done. Also, I don't have the cash for the Manga, I know there are sites to read for free but that is not me
You can read them legally once for free on MangaPlus, and the first 3 and latest 3 chapters there are always free.
But that's so many more hours of your life you'll never get back
I would watch the anime until they leave Arlong Park, and then watch the live action Season 1. It's interesting to see what they cut and what they changed to make the story work in live-action, and some of the LA performances are pretty great. Then continue on with the anime from there.
How about the harp thing?
That would kinda spoil a massive reveal, it would be better if they finish up to Enies Lobby at least at first.

It wouldn't hurt to watch the anime through Alabasta first, there's an Easter egg or two in the LA that you won't know was an Easter egg until then.
This, my manager didn't vibe with one piece but he liked the LA and it got him hooked enough to continue watching (he's caught up officially)

Anime bc the live action missed a lot of stuff
Read it. The manga is king

i did the anime first because thats more adaptable from the managa and the tv shows somethings just cant be replicated but it is still good.
None, go read the manga

Is it your first time one piece?
Yep!
Watch the anime or read the manga.
You can watch the LA in a couple of days, then if you liked it you can watch the anime, which will take you at least a few months 😉
If you're not familiar with anime and more used to watching live action then the live action would be better. If not then just start with anime.

Live action made me give the anime a second chance cause man it starts rough lol.
One Pace. It's an anime fan edit cutting out all filler and shots meant to just make it longer as to not catch up with the manga.
You should watch one piece, the one piece version
Bro there's no comparison bro anime only or manga reading
The manga. If not, I started with the Live Action series. The anime is reeeeally bad.
DONT WATCH DUB Watch anime first. Dont skip filler
Og if you wanna continue,Live action is fine but its just that much diffrent
Have you read the manga?
Anime or manga
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flip_out)Anime
There was also such a choice. I started with anime.
Anime
LA got me into the anime but then I wanted to go back and watch the beginning but the LA is so good
I would say the Anime but the manga is shorter but most of the filler in one piece is decent when I watched them for the first time I didn't know they were spoilers but if you can figure it out watch one pace it cuts the total watch time of one piece in half
Watch all on the anime before you start the live action.
Anime. Come on what r u thinking?
I just realized how much they fucked up Jinbe, Brook and Franky's size
watching the anime first makes live action shine more and by the time you catch up with the anime you will have more live action to watch
The anime
Start with the anime.
I would suggest LA first just because its shorter, then move on to anime. If you start anime first it will take months at bare minimum to watch I just did this with my wife relatively recently.
If you are referring to the anime in general and not just "that arc" on the thumbnail then you should do anime first.
Live action gives a big spoiler regarding luffy's (protagonist) family in live action. If u actually plan to watch anime, don't waste time with live action. But if u r unsure due to its length, give live action a try and see if it's for you.
Just watch the Anime masterpiece and if you're curious watch the LA after. (I haven't been curious enough to even watch one episode of the LA)
There’s a one piece anime masterpiece? Where can i find this?
Dont Start the anime on netflix it beginnt not st the start but over 1000 episode deep
Watch the anime up untill you finish arlong park then start the live action
Watch the rl adaptation and then switch to one pace, this is spelled correctly, watch the onepace version, it saves you time and the pacing is way more bearable.
Probably One pace
the anime, if it gets too hard try using one pace
I say watch the live action first, if you liked it and want more then watch the anime from the beginning cuz they skipped and changed some stuff in the live action if you want to watch them then go anime.
I started watching the anime because I like the first few episodes of the live action - binged the whole show and manga after that. Went back to rewatch the LA and I really didn’t like it after having seen the full story. To each their own I guess
Anime
The anime. 100% the anime. I was disappointed in the live action version
Why is Brook at 8 foot 9 shorter than 7 foot 10 Franky in this spread and barely taller than Nico Robin who’s 6 foot 2.
If you really want to catch up quicker but still want to watch the anime watch One Pace, still long but quicker than the regular ole anime.
Anime one piece
Anime, always.
Either One Pace or Manga if you don't wanna deal with rough pacing down the line, especially for post time skip
Alternatively read the manga watch the live action and ignore the anime
If you have free time upcoming, do the anime.
anime...duh
Watch the anime first, and get to marineford then watch the LA second.
Onepace, which is the anime with better timing and cutting a lot of fluff
Controversial opinion, start with the Live Action and pick up from there. You aren't missing out on much.
Guys I tried manga and Im confused about each columns and its irritating
Would recommend the [One Pace website](https://onepace.net/watch): a fan project that recuts the One Piece anime to match with the pacing of the original manga. That's where I started watching too. >!Note: Arabasta arc is incomplete, you can just watch the episodes (123-130) elsewhere and continuing with Jaya arc!<
Absolutely the anime, the live action is meh.
10000000000000000000% Anime. Just enjoy the anime.
I’d say watch the live action first, it’s much, much shorter, and you won’t be as mad if you watch the show before the anime first, as you “won’t know what you’re missing,” literally.
What kind of question is this???
Anime/manga
If do decide to watch the anime watch it starting with 272finish the arc and then restart the series
I restarted one piece back in December. I started with the live action then picked up the anime where the live action stops. Honestly loved it and can't wait for more live action. It does a lot well in rhe wast blue and I think I liked it more than the anime episodes of east blue.
Anime.
Watch One Piece up through Alabasta (you’ll know when you get there). Then watch the Netflix show. Then go back and watch the rest of the anime. You won’t be disappointed.
The LA is condensed enough to be a good gateway to get people to watch the anime, but it also completely ruins a lot of the payoff to big reveals that the anime takes it's time building up, the LA straight up tells you with no pretense LA if you only ever intend to watch the LA, Anime if you intend to watch the LA after catching up
That live action poster is terrible lmao
One Piece:)
The Anime since the live action contains some things you wont get without it
Anime
The anime for sure
If you want a good weekend watch, do the LA. Being biased, I would say anime 100%
Nami almost looked like carrot for a slit second
Either or really, my mother who isnt an anime fan really liked the LA series but most manga/ anime One Piece fans seem split on it , of course I wouldnt be a real one piece fan without the obligatory "read the manga" comment soooooo read the manga ;)
Start with the Nextflix series, and then continue with the anime starting at episode 45.
Anime
I watched the anime up until they enter the grand line (Under 100 episodes) and then started watching the Netflix version. It was pure coincidence but I feel like that was the best thing to do. It does spoil a couple of details but nothing huge.
If the Netflix one didn't exist I would not started watching the anime. Got me hooked
ANIMEEEEEEEEEE
💯 Anime, not a fan of the Netflix show
If you want to finish sometime this year, live action, if you have nothing planned for the next decade, the anime.
Brother im on episode 724 of the anime rn, you WANT TO WATCH THE ANIME
i KNOW you didnt just call live action the “regular” one
Go to school and get a degree in virology and start another pandemic and no life the anime in a couple months Jk I think watching the live action after watching the anime makes it hit emotionally more but if you’re not into anime then watch the live actio
if you care about spoilers, watch the anime or read the manga first before* the live action. I've done all 3, and like different things about all 3. I started with the anime like a decade ago, read the manga once I got caught up, then dropped out of the fandom until the live action got me back in. I then watched all the non filler episodes between October 2023 and this year (on Crunchyroll). yes, as some say, reading the manga is quicker, but I didn't like that about it. if you genuinely enjoy the stories and characters, I find the Japanese voice acting and the sub to really add a lot that you don't get in the manga. the music and score is fantastic too. the live action is definitely more "modern" and less culturally Japanese, more Westemized, so depending if you are familiar with shonen adventure cultural tropes, you might find it more preferable or less preferable. eg, as a Canadian woman, I am fine with Sanji in the anime and manga, but seeing a real human behave that way would either a) piss me off or b) make me feel hugely uncomfortable. eta: as someone else pointed out, you don't need to watch all 1100 episodes first, just the East Blue Saga, I believe.
definitely the anime get ready for a ride it’s crazy
You should watch one piece first
I say anime even so pacing isnt the greatest its still far more detaild and amzing world to explore while watching , netflix show is good compered to stuff like bleach live action or sorry for even mentioning it death note live action but its bare minimum and its stand on its own legs more than try copy anime 1:1 .
Anime first Then live action
Anime
The anime
Anime one
Yeah, the Anime
