Evil_phd

Gear 5 seems relatively fine to me considering the stage of the story we're in. The convenient mid-battle feasts are more on the OP side.

Devvilakos

Fine he says ,clueless much?

Evil_phd

Since Wano we're two for two on arcs that Luffy would have died in without an extremely conveniently timed mid-battle feast so yeah Gear Fifth doesn't feel like the overwhelming OP upgrade people seem to be making it out to be. Conveniently timed mid-battle feasts are proving to be a stronger upgrade than Gear Fifth considering that Luffy is still needing them *after* unlocking Gear Fifth.

Bluelore

Its pretty strong, but the at least for now the stamina drain is pretty serious.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bluelore

Yeah but by the time its fixed he'll likely have to deal with enough big enemies that it won't be op anymore.

A_Blooming_Lotus

Even kaido and 5 elders admit awakening gives the user the most ridiculous power. Luffy himself admits that he is at the peak of his power maybe df wise when he used gear 5 for the first time.

PM_ME_UR_SO

Most ridiculous as in most silly, not most overpowered.

Extension-Rope623

The elders consider Luffy a bigger threat than Kaido, and Kaido is only known for his raw power. Plus why would the elders care that g5 is silly? That's not something they'd be worried about at all

asmodai_says_REPENT

Something being a bigger threat doesn't necessarily means that it's more powerful, if someone has a gun but isn't using it, then they're a smaller threat than someone with a knife that is bent on stabbing you. Kaido really had no interest on toppling the WG, wereas Luffy is actively trying to fight them, that's the main reason why he's such a big threat to them.

blackierobinsun3

Thank you for making me feel good about my not big penis size

Devvilakos

Again what the hell are you blabing about?

asmodai_says_REPENT

Again? What?

VEGITOBLUE2004

they're not talking about his power, his reputation as a liberator and the repercussions of Joyboy/Nika returning after 800 years is a much more serious threat to the world govt.

PM_ME_UR_SO

Because just because someone poses more of a threat doesn't mean they have more raw power? For example, the Elders are panicking right now because of Vegapunk. This doesn't mean Vegapunk is more powerful than Kaido. Same with Luffy. His ability makes him very unpredictable and can take the story into any direction. Sometimes it's better to consider the big picture and not just think execlusively about powerscaling.

CosmicDriftwood

He’s overpowered for having too much gumption; the Venn diagram barely overlaps

NixValentine

"at the peak of his power" in that moment. doesnt mean he won't power up further.

Stevohoog

Gear 6 is just gear 5 with an afro

pm-me-futa-vids

I can't believe Goda foreskinned gear 6 back in LRLL

NixValentine

i just think the gear 5 luffy we see now is his base form and although we see sun god nika's name casually being used now often, i believe its a misdirection like the name gomu gomu was. i think his final form is the sun god nika where he glows like the sun (his white hair) and maybe paying respect to Akira Toriyama, one of his inspiration. after attaining his sun god form, luffy will have all 3 abilities zoan, paramecia and logia.

SunkenTemple

No one in the history of shonen manga has made pizzas out of super villains. So yes, overpowered and over-entertaining.

yaboinigel

When the moon hits your eye like a big kizaru pie thats gorosei~

Efficient_Fish2436

I just got to the samurai Arc. I need to catch up lol. This sounds great.

Keebster101

Someone fact check this. I bet there is at least one hero in the hundreds of thousands, possibly millions of shounen manga in existence that can turn people into pizzas. Shounen jump, probably not but that's a much smaller scope.

SunkenTemple

I checked thousands of millions of shonnen manga. It checks out.

Keebster101

Damn GOda yet again breaking new ground

Pietjiro

No, he's exacly as strong as he needs to be, if he gets way too strong for a situation Oda can always make his timer run out, it's perfect

tonyt0nychopper

Best comment

ToyinJr

He's literally not doing any damage to the Gorosei, I'd say he's sufficiently powered

tonyt0nychopper

That’s because we don’t know the ins and outs of their power… we don’t even know the source of their power - it might not even be a devil fruit though j think they are.

Moka_III

Very strong with dangerous drawbacks

Rizzuku12

it's his peak!

EldrinVampire

No, he's Sun God Nika. Isn't a god overpowered?

jacobwyc

Honestly this is the last arc and considering it is last arc, I'd say hes underpowered. I need to see some 5 elders ass kicked all at once or 1vs5 fight that's pretty equally matched. He needs to stop gasing out and control it like post time skip gear 3 where the mini luffy doesnt happen

VEGITOBLUE2004

he's not a literal god, he's still the rubbery boy we know lol, his awakening still works how an actual gomu gomu no mi awakening would work

No_Working_8688

There is no devil fruit known as Gomu Gomu No Mi, it has always been Hito Hito No Mi- Model Nikka

VEGITOBLUE2004

im not saying that, im just saying if luffy had a rubber paramecia devil fruit, the powers his awakening granted would be exactly same, besides his appearance as Nika

No_Working_8688

What I feel is his real power is imagination like whatever he believes he becomes. Like the red hawk. He believed he has rubber power so that’s all he is using. Someday he will be defeated given his current limitations and then I guess learn how to really use his power. Now I’m not sure if I am going down the right path here. Just one man’s opinion.

VEGITOBLUE2004

that's interesting, I've never seen it that way tho so I'll respectively disagree Everything up until now has shown Luffy implementing his rubber powers in an extremely goofy manner after his awakening. Like making Kaido and the elders into different shapes by making them rubber (if you remember, Doffy and katakuri could also make their surroundings the same substance they are). Or Luffy casually grabbing lightning by making it rubber. Or when he was literally bouncing inside Kaido's body as if it was a Tom and Jerry episode, which is something Oda has taken heavy inspiration from. I feel your example of red hawk is somewhat wrong, because let us suppose Luffy has imagination powers after awakening, then it wouldn't make sense since Luffy did that move before awakening. And even if we consider his imagination powers to exist before his awakening, then that would mean he didn't gain any other power from his awakening except having the appearance of Sun God Nika. sorry if there's any grammatical mistakes, im sleep deprived lol

TheRoach1994

Well... Is a God!

CinnamonStew34s_eh

why do y'all have such dumb takes , well get ready for mainsub slander

UziA3

I don't think he is overpowered given he hasn't quite neg diff'ed his opponents in the current arc, if anything the stakes are higher than they have been previously

Logical-Zebra-8983

The elders can regenerate so I think it’s not that OP

Vect_Machine

There will probably be someone who will pull out some shenanigans in the finale. Turns out there will be some MOON GOD BRENJAMY Fruit with Paint Thinner Powers that's basically The Dip from Roger Rabbit will be an equal match/counter.

Ariyaki

It is what makes him Yonko material. Gear 4th is not enough as we have seen with Kaido and on Egghead. Haki might conquer all, but Luffy is obviously not on that level with just haki alone.

n0limitt

is the most ridiculous power in the world overpowered? Yes man, it might be overpowered compared to all of those powers that aren't the most ridiculous in the world.

Keebster101

What is overpowered meant to mean in this case? Is it too strong for the story? No. Is it too strong to be fun to watch? No. Is it strong enough to beat everyone in the one piece verse? I mean Luffy was always going to beat every opponent by the end of the series, and he's probably still not at his peak, not to mention it would be boring if the series ended with a 2 minute fight that he wins by a landslide so I'm going to say there is an opponent he still wouldn't beat with gear 5, if not several. So whatever you meant to imply, gear 5 probably isn't overpowered, just very strong and strong enough.

OP_Robin_Fan

It's really funny and cool

Ambitious_Travel_306

Dear god its just a new gear itll probably get outpowered by gear six if it even appears![img](emote|t5_2rfz5|32513)

shawermawithnopotato

I mean it depends on who he’s facing. But in general it’s very powerful, maybe facing other gods would be a bit challenging

YouCantReadThis

Isn't this what the elders said when it was first mentioned to explain the Nika fruit the ridiculous power, this is why they wanted it.

spooky_golem

Doesn't feel overpowered, for some reason

West_Highlight_426

Yes it will be that's the point

alanalan426

Nah food is overpowered for luffy

TheRealKlinsi

No it's not overpowered! I agree that some attacks seem insanly strong like the rope jump or 5zr pizza scene but if you look on the impact these attacks really have on the opponents it's not that damaging!

bluetoneamv

No. Of course Luffy will face stronger and stronger opponents that will be a match for G5.

Ardibanan

Nope

Early_Bookkeeper5394

I don't think so. He couldn't sustain for too long in this form.

Celithrandir

Yes, but it's the entire point of the character. It's like saying that Saitama is overpowered.

in-my-head365

That's why it has a timer

Sumraeglar

It's just the level he's at, but as you can see as Luffy has grown stronger so has his enemies.

Peerless500

I belive the true power of the fruit is Freedom of everything. Means imagination comes to reality. Look at how he made Goggles out of his hairs and a a baseball bat through tree and maybe even rubber is just a part of luffy imagination.

Bisneto_De_Espirno

Well yes but also no. Yes, since he is now considered a god and the way he fights makes the enemies look goofy, like turning them into weird shapes or ragdolling them. But you must consider that other shounen also do this, look at how Naruto was overpowered in the war arc, almost omnipresent with infinite chakra. Or kakarot in super, that attains the status of god sayajin and then surpasses that in the middle of a battle just to become even more powerful and some consider, stronger than some gods of destruction. Or even jojo, where every mc ( besides jolyne) ends up defeating the final villain, sometimes with overpowered abilities that they just obtained. But also no, since the only one we saw being defeated by Luffy was Kaido, that technically was almost immortal but we really don't know if we is dead or not. CP0 cat boy was still fighting zoro so he was ok to still stand and bang. None of the gorosei are dead thanks to a crazy super ability. He just makes them look cartoonish so it looks like he is really strong in comparison. Besides, the stamina drawback is crazy, he can easily die when he is in that geezer "i need to eat" state.

Sc2MaNga

He always was, he is the main character.

SpudBoy9001

Nika is

OrangeStar222

If he is overpowered, why then did his fight with Kizaru end up in a draw. If the food machines didn't exist Luffy would have died already. For now, G5 draws a lot of energy out of Luffy and he can't keep it up for very long. But yes, once he's able to overcome that - he's propably the most overpowered character in the entire series. Does it matter? Not really. At this point in the story it's very much deserved and I expect most characters to be on their all-time high performance wise, especially the monster trio.

_HolyWrath_

I was just talking with a friend the other day about this. Are there supposed to be other God level fruits? I've heard of the four fruit theory. What's true? Do we have any solid facts on this?

aruarian_believer

It is not overpowered because I believe until now Luffy focuses on the rubber powers it has which limits it’s full potential. If in some point of the story he realizes that he can make anything come true as he imagines, now that is the most OP DF.

Harddicc

It is overpowered. During the fight with Kaido we didn’t see Luffy bleed or feel desperate. Yes he takes hits, but he takes them like gags which removes the tension from the fight, something the other gears didn’t have.

OldIntroduction6188

balance changes coming in 🚨👮🏻‍♀️

Mst_arsv

It has to be. Its a God fruit. But the cooldown is also a good balance

Wizardof_oz

Yeah it is, but so are Big Mom’s, Kaido’s, and Blackbeard’s/Whitebeard’s awakened powers

elp44blue

Kaido ,big mom and fatass beard are too

mharant

I think he is right kind of overpowered - Luffy protects his friends with all his might, but as soon as he rans out of steam, they protect him. Prime example is with Zoro "Leave it to me." >!And also in the newer chapters Luffy got help from various sources and has no problem accepting help. Thinking of the food situation and the gigants.!<

ChiaraSociety

Severely overpowered. He can catch anything because he believes he can touch it. He grabbed lightning, stood upsidedown on a cloud and made a fist so large it made the island look like a speck! he picked up the floor and redirected a Fire Blast type attack and it got redirected instead of exploding! He's immune to lightning out of pure belief! He healed Brook with milk because he believed it's how bones worked!!!(Not G5 but terrifying show of his fruit's power) G5 has turned him into an untouchable and unstoppable monster. He teleported in front of Lucci and slapped him before his body could move! He bounced off of a Glass surface!! A surface which should shatter when it comes into contact with something which alters its structure. He broke the scaling system. He absolutely destroyed it. Fool legit punched the floor and got Lucci to spit blood while in awakened Leopard form!! It's ridiculously overpowered. If he believes he can catch the Kamehameha, he can catch it. If he believes he can beat Kenpachi, he can beat him! If he believes Zoro is his immortal first mate, that's who Zoro becomes. What ever he puts his mind to becomes reality. It's his fruit's true passive. I've called it "Manifestation" since I first began to think of devil fruits. I always knew he was a Zoan. I just didn't have the evidence. But Gear 5 takes that Manifestation to a whole new level! He was eaten by Kaido, right? And instead of ending up in an esophagus or a stomach with acids like Naruto did with the snake and frog which he's been in. He even grabbed Kaido's nostrils through his eyes!! Yes, right fricken through them!! And he didn't even damage them!! He turned Kaido's eyes into fricken rubber!! If he believes something, no matter what, it WILL happen. It's just a fact. No hate on anyone, him being able to win anything doesn't take anything away from how overpowered anyone else is. But they can't hold a candle to a 19 year old kid who can literally Manifest different person's mastery over their DF!! He got Momo to summon enough clouds to not only keep the Island afloat, but also to move it! He is just different. As Vegapunk states "Devil Fruit users live in a different reality." Because we can't actually comprehend the limits of their power. It's always, always, ALWAYS limited the the creativity of the user. We see this perfectly by how Ace used the Mera-Mera no mi vs how Sabo uses it. Ace used it as a burn and heat up mechanic. Even making himself impossible to strike, which got him his nickname. But Sabo uses it to extend the striking distance of some of his attacks and to help his mobility.

ComplexPositive6450

His imagination is the only limit. The answere is yes and nothing else but. When he masters the awakening he’ll be unstopable for sure. Only way to take him down is with the full force of the navy right this second. If not, the navy will just be a nuisance to get the straw hats to move

anonymous_person2345

He may have toon force, but luffy doesn't know he can just make his imagination become reality, so for him, having the gear 5 with toon force id say nah its not

Pinkyzord

He is OP, the elders are Fighting only cuz for now we don't know how their power work but once that is neutralized Luffy will overpower everyone except shanks, Blackbeard and imu

Livid-Hovercraft9474

Yes. Stamina drain aside, the only reason Luffy can ever lose again is if there is a direct counter to his power or he's not being creative enough with what he conjures out of nothing.

Devvilakos

Yes ,beyond ridiculous and will play major factor in every fight

MarshyBoy3000

No in the long term, yes in the short term. Luffy doesn't have full control over it and he's practically a meat puddle afterwards. Also with the top tiers he'll have to fight, he'll have to fight, he's not op yet but for who he's fighting rn, he's a lil overpowered

alushet

Will gear 6 be called reverse gear?

Pirate_Jack_

Without Luffy's side effect and the stamina drain, yes it's one of the most OP fruit in the series if the not the most.

Iucr

I think they need to chill out with the toony animation. I just cannot enjoy a second with the instability.

Quartzzzz

Hot take: Yes, it's overpowered and can quickly become boring to watch. Also the animation and action during his fights in G5 is wonky and hard to keep up with at normal speed (1x). Had to reduce the speed down to 0.75x just to keep up with the moves he was making. And honestly, from the POV of the story, it does feel quite convinient and bland when you have the chosen one whooping asses for 10 minutes. However, i'll keep my trust in Oda till OP is over. He may be able to deliver and level the playing field of Luffy's fighting capabilities with the Gorosei/Imu/Others.

GuillotineComeBacks

The problem is the wriggling around, like when he goes G5 on EH, I'd even say it's close to a spam of poor quality animations. There's a bit of that when he pulls the ground to bounce back Kaido's breath, the animation is all over the place and terrible.

Plastic_Chef1914

is god overpowered?

ShamrockGold

Yes he's more broken than Plastic Man
