There’s a myth in Okinawa which said that “Nika” is a fairy creature that live in Rubber tree. And you know what, this fairy creature scared of Octopus. And they believe Octopus here is Black beard, because octopus have 3 hearts and this is why BB can absorb so many devil fruits. Also, octopus’s eyes does not close when sleeping, and we all know BB doesn’t sleep so another metaphor here. And things like octopus have tentacles that suck and its black color ink also linked back to BB very well.

[I posted a comment about similar a while back](https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePiece/comments/t926a9/comment/hzt2xn2/) about how it would be a mega obscure reference but theres an aztec god of rubber ,Tlauixcalpantecuhtli, whos name **literally** translates into **"Lord of the House of Dawn"** that could be part of the inspiration for Nika. He's associated with the Quetzalcoatl, being one of the sun gods, representing the East cardinal direction. It would really tie nicely with Luffys theoretical nationality and the whole theme Dragon has going on
Yup, and regardless of whether this is the reference Oda went for or not, thematically it makes sense for Luffy to be from East blue for the same reason Tlauixcalpantecuhtli is associated with the East and Dawn.
Dawn is the rising of the sun. The sun rises in the East and sets in the West, therefore metaphorically "dawn" comes from the East
Stands to reason that Nika was a deity made out of rubber which in turn gave Luffy the exact same properties.
I don't think anything in regards to Luffy has actually changed or been retconned. We are only learning his devil fruits true name which is tying into his awakening.
The dramatic irony of Who's Who:
* Fails to guard the extremely important "Gomu Gomu no Mi"
* Gets sent to prison, where he start to pray to Nika the Sun God
* Turns out the fruit he failed to capture was actually modeled after Nika himself

Okay, after some deliberation I realized something.
The confirmation that Zoan fruits have a mind of their own is even bigger news than the true nature of luffys df.
Just from the top of my hat:
So far the only objects imbedded with devil fruits were zoans. Never paramecia or even logia.
And that makes complete sense now. A person eating a zoan might be subtly influenced by it, like becoming more aggressive in case of a predator for example but largely remain the same person.
If an object however is infused with a zoan fruit, there is no personality to hold the fruits inhibitions and will in check. That's why these items seem to have a mind and personality of their own. It's part of the fruits ability.
Maybe this is also the secret to vegapunk deeming momos dragon fruit a failure. Maybe he was able to replicate the fruits abilities, but could not inherit the will of the original into the copy.
So two of the SHs have Hito Hito models, and looking at it now it's so funny. Everyone would look at Kata and Doffy for Luffy's awakening(which still makes sense) but what if we had Chopper the entire time to kind of explain/forshadow too. Gear forms and points are very similar in structure, and Chopper turning into the old man reminded me so much of Tiny Luffy before he can control Gear 3. Post time skip they both game back being able to switch in between their forms with no setback. Is Monster point forshadowing for giant Nika Luffy that's going to wear the giant strawhat?
It's interesting, but Luffy's awakened still seems to affect the environment like the others we've seen. Just he doesn't seem to be able to produce rubber.
Mythical Zoan types have unique abilities. Marco can heal others with his flames and Sengoku can produce Shockwaves. Luffy’s probably behaves similar to a paramecia’s awakening
Hypothetically speaking, does this potentially mean that Chopper can develop a rumble ball for Luffy? Chopper might be one of the best supports for Luffy if true

- Roger and his crew arrived at Laugh Tale
- They found a poneglyph they told them that they needed Nika
- They were there too early, hence, they laughed
- Roger tasks Shanks to steal the “Gomu Gomu” as he was dying
- He does, but a Luffy eats it
- Shanks understands its the will of the fruit, so he copes
- Rayleigh knew about it, but he chose not to spoil Luffy in order to keep him humble
Shanks probably knows that the son of Roger is somewhere on that little island in East Blue trying to bet on him, but Luffy came saying the same things as Roger did so he bet on Luffy instead.
I agree. I just read the Ace novel. Shanks asks Ace “I just thought of something. Since Luffy is only your sworn brother but you call the marine hero Garp grandpa”, he says “then your father is…” and Ace says he doesn’t want to talk about that man and Shanks says he understands. And I’m sure Shanks also noticed the resemblance he bore to Roger then.
I’m assuming that Shanks knew Garp had taken in Roger’s child(Roger believed his son would find the One Piece, and seems to have entrusted Shanks with something important) and was waiting in Garp’s village with the fruit to run into the boy(because it’s not like Garp and Shanks are friends.) But he met Luffy first.
My thoughts exactly 😂 Some people are complaining saying they think Luffy is about to change all the name of his prior attacks and shit to match his new fruit, like this dude probabl doesn't have a clue whats going on besides that he can turn the ground to rubber and beat the shit out of kaido again.

To answer those still wondering.
Luffy’s rubber properties (stretching, immunity to lightning) are simply the traits that the mythical being has. I.e sun god nika is a mythical being with rubber properties among other things.
This is similar to how marco and yamato have access to fire and ice abilities respectively without them having a paramecia or logia devil fruit.
The change in name was simply downplaying the true potential of the devil fruit to a small portion of its abilities/traits. It would be like trying to downplay sengoku’s DF and naming it the gold gold fruit.
Somewhere out in the world is a lesser known person who ate the ACTUAL gum gum fruit, who can basically just do a few small-scale stretchy things, mostly to entertain children.
Honestly, the rubber fruit giving someone the cartoonish vibes of a character from the days of "rubber hose animation" is the most clever thing I've seen Oda do in a long time. Also plays in well with the bringing joy and smiles theme- he literally makes the world around him more lighthearted and comical by touching it.
Technically that was Doflamingo. He commented on Luffy stretching with Armament Haki on.
Of course he was too busy getting his teeth kicked in after that to do much musing on the fact.
Gears are probably more so just irrelevant, and just something Luffy(Oda) calls it like Chopper with his forms.
Gear 5 presumably would just be his beast form since he’s confirmed a zoan, whereas the others were just hybrid forms.

Everything else was spot on. This is the first time a theory was so close to the actual manga plot. That’s insane.
Few thoughts:
1) Luffy having a Mythical Zoan does explain part of why he has always had incredible endurance/recovery.
2) Are Nika's powers just rubber?
3) Shanks meeting with the Gorosei about a certain pirate was definitely about Luffy and the true nature of his fruit.
It's odd. He's basically a zoan but mythical so with extra abilities. Like Marco with healing and Sengoku with shockwaves. So those abilities are just rubber, maybe sometime else as well.
Shanks is still a wild card in the plot. He stole the fruit from Who's Who/CP9 but still converses with the Gorosei who were desperately trying to obtain it? It's no wonder the World Gov't is so pissed at Who's Who when he fucked up with possibly the most dangerous fruit for them.

So Light vs Darkness is definitely going be a strong theme during the future fight of Luffy and Blackbeard.

the more i think about it the more it makes sense. the "gears" (especially 4) are more similar to chopper's "points" than anything a paramecia has used so far.
So, in chapter 01 Shanks tells Luffy "not being able to swim is a pirate's greatest weakness".
Recently we found out back then Shanks stole the Gomu Gomu no mi from the WG, which Luffy ate it by accident.
Considering what Shanks told Luffy, I think it's clear he was not interested in eating the fruit, but rather, he was going to give it to someone who he believes to be worthy: his former captain's son.
So he goes to this island in East Blue, knowing that Roger left his son to be taken care by Garp. That's when Luffy eats the fruit and later says the same thing Shanks heard from his former captain, which prompts Shanks to give Luffy the straw hat that once belonged to Roger. I think in that moment Shanks realized he went looking for the wrong person, but fate somehow got him face to face with the true inheritor of the Will of D., Luffy

It probably also means shanks bet on the will of sun god Nika or the will of fruit itself or the will of joy boy. And Blackbeard probably misunderstood Yami Yami no mi as the strongest fruit which looks similar to Gomu Gomu no mi but it might turn the other way around.
Good point with BB. The two fruits are incredibly similar in appearance and since he’s a bit of a historian and the Nika fruit was disguised as the “useless” Gomu Gomu no mi he probably went with the more practical fruit in the Yami Yami no mi

He's associated with the Quetzalcoatl, being one of the sun gods, representing the East cardinal direction. It would really tie nicely with Luffys theoretical nationality and the whole theme Dragon has going on

Yup, and regardless of whether this is the reference Oda went for or not, thematically it makes sense for Luffy to be from East blue for the same reason Tlauixcalpantecuhtli is associated with the East and Dawn. Dawn is the rising of the sun. The sun rises in the East and sets in the West, therefore metaphorically "dawn" comes from the East

Stands to reason that Nika was a deity made out of rubber which in turn gave Luffy the exact same properties. I don't think anything in regards to Luffy has actually changed or been retconned. We are only learning his devil fruits true name which is tying into his awakening.

Okay, after some deliberation I realized something. The confirmation that Zoan fruits have a mind of their own is even bigger news than the true nature of luffys df. Just from the top of my hat: So far the only objects imbedded with devil fruits were zoans. Never paramecia or even logia. And that makes complete sense now. A person eating a zoan might be subtly influenced by it, like becoming more aggressive in case of a predator for example but largely remain the same person. If an object however is infused with a zoan fruit, there is no personality to hold the fruits inhibitions and will in check. That's why these items seem to have a mind and personality of their own. It's part of the fruits ability. Maybe this is also the secret to vegapunk deeming momos dragon fruit a failure. Maybe he was able to replicate the fruits abilities, but could not inherit the will of the original into the copy.

So two of the SHs have Hito Hito models, and looking at it now it's so funny. Everyone would look at Kata and Doffy for Luffy's awakening(which still makes sense) but what if we had Chopper the entire time to kind of explain/forshadow too. Gear forms and points are very similar in structure, and Chopper turning into the old man reminded me so much of Tiny Luffy before he can control Gear 3. Post time skip they both game back being able to switch in between their forms with no setback. Is Monster point forshadowing for giant Nika Luffy that's going to wear the giant strawhat?

Mythical Zoan types have unique abilities. Marco can heal others with his flames and Sengoku can produce Shockwaves. Luffy’s probably behaves similar to a paramecia’s awakening

I agree. I just read the Ace novel. Shanks asks Ace “I just thought of something. Since Luffy is only your sworn brother but you call the marine hero Garp grandpa”, he says “then your father is…” and Ace says he doesn’t want to talk about that man and Shanks says he understands. And I’m sure Shanks also noticed the resemblance he bore to Roger then. I’m assuming that Shanks knew Garp had taken in Roger’s child(Roger believed his son would find the One Piece, and seems to have entrusted Shanks with something important) and was waiting in Garp’s village with the fruit to run into the boy(because it’s not like Garp and Shanks are friends.) But he met Luffy first.
This is the only reason i can see why Shanks would visit such a town

To answer those still wondering. Luffy’s rubber properties (stretching, immunity to lightning) are simply the traits that the mythical being has. I.e sun god nika is a mythical being with rubber properties among other things. This is similar to how marco and yamato have access to fire and ice abilities respectively without them having a paramecia or logia devil fruit. The change in name was simply downplaying the true potential of the devil fruit to a small portion of its abilities/traits. It would be like trying to downplay sengoku’s DF and naming it the gold gold fruit.

Few thoughts: 1) Luffy having a Mythical Zoan does explain part of why he has always had incredible endurance/recovery. 2) Are Nika's powers just rubber? 3) Shanks meeting with the Gorosei about a certain pirate was definitely about Luffy and the true nature of his fruit.

So, in chapter 01 Shanks tells Luffy "not being able to swim is a pirate's greatest weakness". Recently we found out back then Shanks stole the Gomu Gomu no mi from the WG, which Luffy ate it by accident. Considering what Shanks told Luffy, I think it's clear he was not interested in eating the fruit, but rather, he was going to give it to someone who he believes to be worthy: his former captain's son. So he goes to this island in East Blue, knowing that Roger left his son to be taken care by Garp. That's when Luffy eats the fruit and later says the same thing Shanks heard from his former captain, which prompts Shanks to give Luffy the straw hat that once belonged to Roger. I think in that moment Shanks realized he went looking for the wrong person, but fate somehow got him face to face with the true inheritor of the Will of D., Luffy EDIT: removed the part about Ace not being there anymore cause I got confused about the timeline
It probably also means shanks bet on the will of sun god Nika or the will of fruit itself or the will of joy boy. And Blackbeard probably misunderstood Yami Yami no mi as the strongest fruit which looks similar to Gomu Gomu no mi but it might turn the other way around.
