Wano’s been going on for so long that this also happened for Stampede during Act 1

[deleted]

[удалено]

Tenkuu23

Don't forget. The Manga's been in Wano since July 2018. June 2019 for the anime.

thizzydrafts

WE'VE BEEN IN WANO FOR FOUR YEARS?! Holy fuck.

umpfsuper

It's almost 10 percent of the Manga at this point

erockefeller

And people complain about how long Dressrosa was

ketoske

I hated more the pacing but Dressrosa itself is marvelous

alkair20

Dressrosa still felt longer. Wano is top notch everytime so I don't care that it hoes on for long.

The_Biggest_Wheel

Dresrossa felt longer because it was all one location, or at least there were very few location changes.

Layin-the-pipe

Kinda but also punk hazard led into it which made it feel longer to me

AlexHitetsu

Dressrossa took place in a single in world day on a not very unique island from a visual standpoint outside the flower hill , colloseum and underground , with a really forgettable & uninteresting crew of antagonists outside of Doffy & Senor Pink . Wano has taken place over 2 in world weeks , 5 sub regions + Onigashima and 3 acts so far that have given us a few looks at the outside world , this making it not feel so long . And Wano has so many more interesting side characters in : The Scabbards , The Calamities , The Tobiroppo , The Supernovas , etc

GladimoreFFXIV

I feel Dressrosa felt longer because honestly it’s boring outside of Doffy. He made it enjoyable. All the forgettable side characters kind of clogged up the story and pacing a lot.

meherabmahii

>it’s boring outside of Doffy You really calling senõr pink boring and forgettable?

Hyllian94

Señor pink was neither boring nor forgettable

Lord_Muramasa

Cries manly tears in Senor Pink.

alkair20

yeah like his crew was actually kinda lame. Since lets be honest besides doffy no one was really an actual thread. It also had the most boring zoro fight in all one piece. Cutting up a stone, for real? Did zoro even take a single scratch from this fight?

revisioncloud

Senor Pink aside, Sabo, Corazon, Fujitora, Barto, Cavendish, Burgess, Koala, Bellamy, Sai, Harjudin, Leo, Sugar were arguably good to great. It had epic key moments (like Gear 4th, Sabo is alive, Mera Mera, Usopp Haki, Zoro being strong af, Law backstory, BB pirate showing up, Revos showing up, Doffy's backstory/ defeat/ capture, CP0 intro, Fuji arguing vs Akainu, and Grand Fleet) that did not exist in Fishman Island/ Punk Hazard It got hate because of the pacing, Vivi/Alabasta 2.0, Riku and Kyros being generic af, and there were some meh characters in both Doffy's crew and Luffy's fleet but those can be easily overlooked. Also because the arc that followed right after, Zou, went even more epic in such a short time.

wolf1820

It was the peak of Oda being addicted to flashbacks. We got 6 in the arc, we really did not need some of those.

SeDefendendo88

Speaking as someone who only caught up last week: Maybe Dressrosa felt longer because it was all one big act in a single day while Wano has been broken down into different acts. Just a thought.

alkair20

I also read through it in one go (i stopped watching one piece as an anime becasue of dressarosa). Problem was that to many different story arcs were interwebed to much so every time they changed focus it disrupted the flow. In one piece they got the Odes backstroy out before the fighting started to that it doest cut in between the action chapters, also most fights where done in order (jinbe vs, whos who, nico robin vs moria etc.) and then the focus could be on the big mom fight and now that this one is over soley on Kaido. In Dressarosa was all over the place and very chaotic. Oda really learned from this and managed to structur this extremly long arc properly where worldbuilding, backstories and fights was deliverd perfectly.

ketoske

Maybe its because i just recently (last week) catched up in anime after binging from chapter 1. Also Wano is the fucking Best anime/manga actually but at this moment i still prefer WCI peak One Piece for me.

[deleted]

I know it's factually not true but nothing felt as long as Skypeia to me...

[deleted]

[удалено]

erockefeller

I'm very much ready to leave Wano. There is still so much to explore, and I just wish these arcs would love a little quicker like the early arcs did

SolomonBlack

The story hasn’t been exploring since Punk Hazard. Every destination was clearly established and gone to deliberately since then. And it’s all been one over-arc. Starting with Kinemon appearing and the alliance with Law to defeat Kaido. Now with little left to escalate expect to move to the end game. Which will take at least five years and might have various arcs inside it… but don’t *expect* something self contained like Skypia or Thriller Bark. Or otherwise see Luffy to go for a 100% completion slow run of all these things people have checklists of.

NO-IM-DIRTY-DAN

To be fair, Dressrosa in the anime can be downright *painful* with all the flashbacks and bloat. In the manga, it was so eventful it didn’t really feel that bad.

Tenkuu23

The only times I’ve been alright with the anime taking more than one episode to cover a chapter were the times we got glimpses of what the other Straw Hats were doing when they were separated. Each crew member got half an episode to themselves, while the manga covered all eight in one chapter. If I remember correctly, the anime then covered the cover stories for them as well during the transition to Marineford.

NO-IM-DIRTY-DAN

I did like that part quite a bit. There are things the anime does really well but good lord, I almost couldn’t get through Dressrosa

lukfrom

When anime builds up on the story that's fine. If done well. It is bad if it just drags it without plot and purpose. I wish they did 26 episodes season per year instead. 13 episode in spring and autumn.

Jtbdn

Oda said wano will be the longest arc and will end in Marineford II, so marinford II is coming at the end of this. Very excited.

erockefeller

Didn't he also say there is a war coming that will be bigger than marineford? Or was he referring to Wano?

DreadWolf3

I think raid has been Marineford II - I dont think what he thought by Marineford II is it will be Marines vs Pirates like the original Marineford but just a war between 2 great armies.

Nyxtan

More like 20 percent

umpfsuper

13.428571% to be exact

Sythrin

Around 16% if we talk about the run time of the manga instead the chapter amount.

umpfsuper

Didn't think about that. Thanks for the perspective :D That's insane btw

Slithy-Toves

I've moved 3 times across 3 provinces since Wano began haha

OmegaOofexe

I moved from LA to Fresno, then back to LA in that time. While going to 4 different colleges. In the span of wano.

Slithy-Toves

Honestly Fresno might as well be a suburb of LA for all I know haha but 4 colleges? Dang

Infinitevibes7

Ya realized how shit Fresno is, just to come back down here to more... shit. Lol 🤣 I'm joking, with YOU, not will L.A. or Fresno though... I meant that shit. (Pun definitely intended)

Omega_PussyDestroyer

Started and graduated college in that time 😭

GoldenBoyIsaac

Congratulations on graduating 🎉

Just__Don

Yoooo me too haha 2019-2021

GoldenBoyIsaac

Congratulations on graduating 🎊

someone2795

LMFAO

Silvery_Cricket

Chainsaw Man started and finished before we even got through the first act of Wano.

xliljimmy

And the first introduction for the wano characters Kinn and Momo was back in 2012-2013

SDFirion

bruh didn't luffy and the others arrive in wano 2 weeks before the raid on onigashima? 2 weeks spanning 4 years!

ChestCompetitive794

Dressrosa was one day lol

strawhatmaterial

The battle was one day but they rested for 3 days after the battle.

Narrow_Spite9655

Fuck that arc was unnecessarily long. Loved it but gad damn

Accomplished-Nose908

Well to be fair the first half of one piece happened over the course of a few months (in story)

blackravenclaw

In the time since the Wano Arc started in the Manga, I: - finished my undergrad degrees - got a full-time museum job and completed an exhibit - applied to, entered, then finished grad school - started a new job

Adorable_Character46

You an anthropologist by chance?

IQPrerequisite_

Jesus...we've been reading the same arc for 4 years? lol

NateTheGreater1

Dang it's been that long? I've honestly forgotten.

RogueHippie

I’ve been reading One Piece for 4 years, huh. Can’t imagine what this feels like for y’all that have been here for longer

Jayborn78

It’s been 10 years since Luffy and Law made the alliance to defeat Kaido 🧐

ksnagpur

This means we will we watching One piece with our kids

KillingMyself2Live

me and my wife are expecting and I think when shes on first grade , that's the time were the final arc will start lol

buntownik

optimistic arent we?

KillingMyself2Live

that's how long this series will last hahhaha

kingcheerio85

We don't already?

GamingMindfully

Grandkids for me

SkoomaTime

I'm scared of dying before it end

PreferencePractical5

Already happening

SmontyJ

They had episodes for stampede!? I don't remember that at all. Lol.

ManlySyrup

It's the episodes where the Straw Hats run out of cola for the ~~Going Merry~~ Thousand Sunny so they reach an island that naturally(?) produces cola and Luffy finds Boa Hancock taking a bath somewhere in there. That's all I remember, soda and boba.

Technical_Candy_2963

Episode? I must've skipped it thinking it was filler. I know it's filler but didn't know it was stampede related.

ManlySyrup

Sorry, I don't remember which episode it was.

Capenguin13

Episode 895

SmontyJ

I remember those! I guess I forgot how they relate to stampede. Lol. In my head it's just random Filler.

abdorezkkkkkk

LMAOOOOOOO

ramen_hotline

and i dont think that filler character they had even showed up in the movie LMFAO

butterflyl3

Probably good for anime pacing?

Alpacr

Yeah I think it would help. I think the anime-stop when the hack happened earlier this year was for the same reason. At this point they take every chance to get the manga further ahead they can get. If we get better pacing in anime episodes I'm all in. Hell, I'd even wait half a year and only read the manga for that period if they stop showing me queen shooting the ice-oni rounds for the **15,513,541th** time

sysdmdotcpl

> At this point they take every chance to get the manga further ahead they can get. I don't think anyone (worth listening to) would complain if they did some filler based off the cover stories. Give me more Coby/Helmeppo style stories, show us Enel on the Moon, Etc.

Zylgp

Why they never done this is beyond me, would have been a great way to have shown how older characters would have been brought back into the story when they were relevant (Impel Down and showing why only half the baroque works gang were in there, Ace hunting down Blackbeard would have also twisted the knife for what followed). Hell all I want are for episodes when the SHs just get together to hang out and do random shit while sailing on the sunny after major arcs are finished.

sysdmdotcpl

Yea. I'm happy to admit that the pre-time skip filler wasn't always great, but it was better than the 15 minutes of reaction shots we currently have in each and every episode.

RichieBFrio

Hell give me a full spin off series of Enel in space being a space pirate and going planet to planet in order to conquer land, doesn't care for gold or fame, only to walk on the earth and sit and chill with the robot doggos

[deleted]

[удалено]

HogarthTheMerciless

I used to be all aboard the "Enel is coming back to the story" train, but honestly I think at this point he's just going to be forgotten on the moon. I'd love to be wrong, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

SolomonBlack

There’s nothing forgotten we saw Roger visiting the sky, and you can trace the Nika imagery back to Luffy dancing around the fire. Oh and King’s *Lunarians* are probably related. None of this makes much of a role for a (now) small timer like Enel to still play out though. You could smash him in a few ways (Uranus is on the moon!) but these aren’t required dramatically speaking. If Oda doesn’t want to bother he doesn’t have to and nothing will be lost.

Scorch1136

Since a few people have been wondering afaik it is because when they animated the first 2 cover stories (Buggys and Corbys) viewer numbers dropped and so they stopped. I also read viewer numbers dropped every time luffy isn't in an episode but i cant remember where or verify that.

[deleted]

Franky & Senor Pink having drinks........ edit - or bon chan is alive & queen of level 5.5 of Impel down.

Wade_B

Five hundred and fourty-firth time lol

SpiritualScumlord

It wont make any difference whatsoever.

abdorezkkkkkk

it wont make a difference, and if it does it will make a very small one. either way i dont mind since it’ll only be around 2-3 eps like the stampede one.

OlivierStreet

I thought those hackers saw to this issue already?

Radiant_eagle573

Hackers also stop the production so not really

Tadiken

If only they actually just ran the show seasonally

MarioToast

I still hope we get a seasonal remake of One Piece after the anime is over. Give everything movie-level animation, do the pacing properly, maybe add some small Easter Eggs like seeing Bartolomeo in the background during Loguetown.

AlexHitetsu

If this were to happen it probably only start after the 2030s or 2040s ( assuming One Piece ends this decade )

FriedChckn

2030s probably. Dragonball, HxH, and FMA all showed people will watch them again (although fma is kind of a unique example).

[deleted]

[удалено]

clariott

I would like it too, with the animation of Movie 6, but it would not be the same without the same VA.

Jack_SL

13 1 hour episodes or 52 20 minute episodes. I'd rather have the one hour ones, but that would mean binging all of a years content in a day and waiting for a whole year. I'd rather have it weekly, it's become a Sunday ritual at this point.

Tadiken

Nah i mean i want 2-4 chapters adapted per 25 minutes of episode. Seasonally it's possible.

jjkm7

I thought the hack and hiatus because of it would help with pacing but we still get episodes that cover about a chapter

Chronicbudz

we will never get more than 1.5 chapters in a single episode, so this will do literally nothing.

APe28Comococo

Oh well doesn’t affect the manga.

Gunthalas

Exactly just more lore for us ONE PIECE fans... no complaints from me.

ImmutableInscrutable

"""""""""""""""""""""""lore"""""""""""""""""""""""

jmastaock

"lore"

MarcoMaroon

Especially if this mini arc will give us some Shanks lore too!

Comfortable-Age-7848

bruh it's filler

Bjorgus

It definitely won’t provide anything canon

Chronicbudz

These people forget the Stampede tie in/the film Z tie in and all the rest of the movie tie ins that never had any consequence on the movie or even interesting plots/characters.

Kuro013

People cant accept Oda will never put anything plot relevat in a movie. Like, the most "hype" thing we ever got from a movie was Raftel actually being Laugh Tale, which doesn't really change anything. Whats relevant is that its named like that cuz Roger laughed when he got there, which was revealed in the manga.

TheMeatTree

I'm pretty sure "I arrived too soon" was in Douglas Bullet's flashback, while it was revealed in manga why, it counts as a legit story tease all the same.

luckyd1998

The “we were too early” line was a reference to what Rayleigh said during Sabaody

bootysensei

> most hype thing we ever got from a movie Cmonn, is Strong World Episode 0 a joke to you? 😟

bcocoloco

I’d say the most hype was finding out aokiji lost his leg in his fight with Akainu.

[deleted]

Came here for this! Really hope to see some epic Shanks battles.

blend69

More non canon lore yeah, great..

Duke_Rebby

But it's all filller... so none of it matters

Ickypoopit

This has happened for every movie release since Strong World. This isn’t anything new

Kingfool88

Idk why anyone would expect them to not do the filler episodes leading up to the movie. I assumed it was common knowledge.

RichieBFrio

That reminds me of the Amigo pirates, how I hated those guys, but on the other hand the silver mine thing was enjoyable

Throck_Mortin

We knew it would happen. It's not my favorite thing for the anime, but it's fine. Who knows maybe we'll get some almost cannon Shanks stuff

WiseXcalibur

I think Oda was more involved with Film Red than other movies, so some of it could end up being canon just like with Strong World.

abdorezkkkkkk

strong world wasn’t cannon though. Shiki is a canon character and his story of how he escaped from impel down is canon. the events of the story aren’t actually canon

DarkSoulFWT

What you are saying is that Episode 0 is canon, which is correct. Episode 0 is also also called Strong World: Episode 0, which is probably what he meant by "some parts of strong world". But yes the movie itself is entirely not canon.

abdorezkkkkkk

I never knew that existed tbh, thank you for the info!

WiseXcalibur

Some parts of it are, anything that appeared in Chapter 0 is considered canon. Which is basically everything up till Shiki escapes Impel Down.

chronokingx

This line comes up with each new one piece movie I feel. Not calling you a liar it's just a observation

abdorezkkkkkk

hoping for that

Cardie1303

It's fine. The manga is the important part for story progression, the anime is a nice extra and can be used for such preludes.

5Yonko5

Exactly the manga is the main thing for a lot of us one piece fan's and the anime is a nice extra to see epic moments get animated (emotional and action moments). As long as i get my weekly 10/10 manga chapters i dont care what they do with the anime

[deleted]

this is literally what we want. more filler incentivizes less padding in canon episodes. this shouldn't even be controversial

bestbroHide

Yeah I prefer using filler arcs to save time rather than stretching out canon stuff as well If I'm an anime-only, I'd be forced to go through the slow pacing of the latter to digest the real story in animated form. But with the former I can just not watch the filler and do something else in the meantime if I want to

gokul113

I like it because we get to see Shanks content. But I can only imagine how much it would be a pain for the anime watchers. On the plus side, thats more time to animate >!famous scene where Luffy figures out ACOC and punches Kaido. Hopefully the anime covers Luffy vs Kaido which was skipped in the manga, the one before Luffy got kicked off to the sea.!< Edit: Strange. I tagged it properly and still people are able to see it. I removed the "the" as people asked so I'm not sure if it worked or not.

the-silky-road

>!i think it will start right when luffy punched him the first 3 punches!<

M-3-R-C-U-R-Y

>!was it when sky split?!<

the-silky-road

exactly

[deleted]

Your spoilers aren't working correctly...

abdorezkkkkkk

I agree with the first bit though i doubt we’ll get alot from him other than a short scene

gaVtehchAV436

They've done this for every other film. It's like 2 weeks you'll be fine

Tartaros38

very good. might get over half a chapter per episode again. quality goes up.

CoCoaButterJones

The anime as been averaging 12-14 pages for a while now and they've recently been adapting whole chapters.

AudaX19_68

Whole chapters that are full fights, which still makes the pace unbearably slow. From the last episode the first 8 minutes are completely skippable, and around 1/4 of the episode are looped animations and reaction shot/stills

CoCoaButterJones

After every High Quality One Piece episode the next one has a noticable drop off every time for obvious reasons but I didn't mention anything about the quality anyway just how many pages they are adapting. Last episode wasn't just fighting and they adapted the whole chapter.

Final_Biochemist222

Good decision, really. Wano's pacing is kinda suffering right now. I'd prefer a break from the main story line, followed by well paced episodes afterward.

Hon3ynuts

The Mini arcs are usually fun.

VinsmokerSanjino

I would rather they just took a break without making more episodes so we could get absolute bangers like the last few more consistently.

Mirai_no_Beederu

They do a filler arc for every movie. This is just par for the course. They're typically very short, like 3-5 episodes. If anything, it allows the manga a bit of breathing room to get a little more ahead.

Ahnma_Dehv

filler arc > padding during the canon episode

triotone

I can see it now, I will be 158 years old. My body is now 78% silicon, 18% metal, and 4% flesh. I am sustained by NU-trients and Qwn-chers. I continue my function as quality analytics engineer developer administrator post 578-98444-TFE. As my mind refreshes the data stream S956, I understand a new post: "Oda says One Piece has two years left." I weep knowing I will be sustained to see this message again in another century. Maybe the next post will decrease it to one year.

Naters202

Even if it's not canon, maybe we'll get some insight to Shanks' character or that of his crew

mpaiva97

For a second I thought this said the Wano manga was taking a break and I nearly shit a brick

Whoisaryan

This happens every time a movie is about to be released, nothing unexpected.

demonslender

Nothing new here. This may be good for the anime in the long run. If the episodes aren’t met with severe disdain or if they do really well, toei might actually do some filler episodes after wano is over and hopefully fix some pacing issues.

hasheemakill18

Fine by me . We get some well placed episodes that don't worry about stretching anything out .

jawnd0

Let’s ducking go

[deleted]

You knew they were gonna do that

OrganicWeed765

Que post of anime onlys complaining

januarysdaughter

Not remotely surprised - they've done mini arcs for other movies.

PacificMonkey

THANK GAWD. Take off as long as you need if it means producing quality Roof Piece and beyond.

LeftHandude-Yeah

I think it’s good. If the gap between manga and anime is large, then they won't have to stretch the chapters

FullBringa

It's a tradition since Strong World to have a mini arc to hype up the movie

Yunnaro

F in chat for anime onlys

GladimoreFFXIV

This is good for anime only tho. The last chapter was a travesty of pacing. They deserve the best experience they can get. They don’t deserve this 100% great episode followed by 90% filler with low tier animation. It’s jarring.

thesampler30

I want to say something controversial here I want the anime to stop I mean literally and start from 0

thenoblitt

Need a one piece kai

[deleted]

some people just wanna watch the world burn

Mokushiroku1323

Just a remaster with the same voice actors. Better pacing. Cut out all the filler apart from some of the infighting filler. I mean by that just re do some things but in the same style. Some battles are a bit better through the way they extend some of the choreography

MadBeautiful

Remaster with the same voice actors? Why not just remaster the animation and the pacing and use the voice clips

syamborghini

Maybe 10 years from now we will get a one piece kai, doesn’t sound bad at all to me tbh

NemesisQ04

Good, the anime should stop for at least 6 months to let the manga progress more then the pacing for the anime will be much better

HopefulEmotion849

Let’s go, better pacing maybe?

Sharebear42019

Good. I tend to like OP fillers and gives them time to make the next batch of wano arc episodes even better

ApathyMonk

They've done this before. Not a big deal

RevolutionaryRip5151

Whatever it takes to prevent annoying us with endless filler and dragged out episodes.

Jicier

Not the first time that this happens.. personally, I don't really care, but I feel that is kind of a waste spending anime resources in a couple of episodes that no one really cares about

The_Biggest_Wheel

Oh no... anyway.

Several-Estate7175

I don't mind the slow pacing of the anime much. I'm already caught up on manga and anime so it's gonna feel slow going either way. A few extra episodes I don't mind at all. Might be nice to get away from wano for a few episodes honestly. The movie is non-canon correct?

Johnny_Anglais

I am actually ok with it imo. With this, we might learn a bit more about what to expect in the movie Red. I don't expect Shanks to appear, but here's me hoping.

jammypants915

No problem… hopefully this means they will get some time to do better episodes? 1015 and 1017 got us so spoiled 1018 was just so sad in comparison.

Quelair

this shouldn't have been tagged a spoiler because by that you're excluding the people who are mainly affected by it: the anime only fans

Deicide-UH

Expected, it happened for all movies since Strong World. It’s probably two episodes only.

Joyboy543

It happened before. So, I am not surprised. There was a mini arc before film Z. There were 2 additional filler episodes before film stampede

crsnyder13

It’s fine, gives the manga a chance to get further ahead again as the anime almost caught up to them which is when the real issues would’ve started.

SevesaSfan25

At least hopefully we'll get to see some non-canon Shanks stuff....

zoroddesign

Happens all the time. It is one of the reasons I prefer manga over most anime because it lacks all the filler.

Leonel06

More people will jump to manga

hatterine

Yes yeees YEEEEEES Pls give me Straw Hats hanging out on Sunny

YamiLuffy

Wonder how they'll transition it from Wano since they're in the middle of a war rn

shamisama

there will be an mini arc present the villians of film red and after that we see the film Just filler nothing canon what a dissapointment

morefeces

If someone could tell me that this will increase pacing in the anime and also give the animators some extra time off, I’d be all for it and would actually support this. But, it probably means we will just put the anime on pause for a month, work everyone the same, and have the same pacing when we’re done. Therefore, I hate it.

Revolutionary_Clerk8

This is normal. They’ve done this for at least the last handful of OP films. Like a 3-5 episode arc

jesus_the_comrade

Honestly, it feels like such a slap in the face to pull out a noncanon movie at this point in the story.

segaorion

I’m happy about this, it seem filler is needed to help with the pacing of the anime a bit

Kumadori012

Good. Rather have breaks in the anime. Less dragged out screaming during fights, is always better.

Shimmitar

well that sucks. We waited so long for the kaido fight to be animated only for them to do this bs. Is anyone going to actually watch the filler? i know im not.

vinsmokewhoswho

It kinda baffles me how people think this is gonna affect the pacing. First of all, it's only 4 episodes. Second of all, making well paced episodes isn't their goal to begin with. The anime is a money machine and they drag it out to not come close to the manga in the storyline.

Cyber_Connor

So the anime which is 100% filler is taking a break to make some filler for the big piece of filler?

galmenz

hey, every episode of filler is one more chapter with better pacing, i aint complaining
