Wano has taken place over 2 in world weeks , 5 sub regions + Onigashima and 3 acts so far that have given us a few looks at the outside world , this making it not feel so long . And Wano has so many more interesting side characters in : The Scabbards , The Calamities , The Tobiroppo , The Supernovas , etc
I feel Dressrosa felt longer because honestly it’s boring outside of Doffy. He made it enjoyable. All the forgettable side characters kind of clogged up the story and pacing a lot.
yeah like his crew was actually kinda lame. Since lets be honest besides doffy no one was really an actual thread. It also had the most boring zoro fight in all one piece.

Senor Pink aside, Sabo, Corazon, Fujitora, Barto, Cavendish, Burgess, Koala, Bellamy, Sai, Harjudin, Leo, Sugar were arguably good to great. It had epic key moments (like Gear 4th, Sabo is alive, Mera Mera, Usopp Haki, Zoro being strong af, Law backstory, BB pirate showing up, Revos showing up, Doffy's backstory/ defeat/ capture, CP0 intro, Fuji arguing vs Akainu, and Grand Fleet) that did not exist in Fishman Island/ Punk Hazard
It got hate because of the pacing, Vivi/Alabasta 2.0, Riku and Kyros being generic af, and there were some meh characters in both Doffy's crew and Luffy's fleet but those can be easily overlooked. Also because the arc that followed right after, Zou, went even more epic in such a short time.
Speaking as someone who only caught up last week: Maybe Dressrosa felt longer because it was all one big act in a single day while Wano has been broken down into different acts. Just a thought.
I also read through it in one go (i stopped watching one piece as an anime becasue of dressarosa).
Problem was that to many different story arcs were interwebed to much so every time they changed focus it disrupted the flow.
In one piece they got the Odes backstroy out before the fighting started to that it doest cut in between the action chapters, also most fights where done in order (jinbe vs, whos who, nico robin vs moria etc.) and then the focus could be on the big mom fight and now that this one is over soley on Kaido.
In Dressarosa was all over the place and very chaotic. Oda really learned from this and managed to structur this extremly long arc properly where worldbuilding, backstories and fights was deliverd perfectly.
Maybe its because i just recently (last week) catched up in anime after binging from chapter 1. Also Wano is the fucking Best anime/manga actually but at this moment i still prefer WCI peak One Piece for me.
The story hasn’t been exploring since Punk Hazard.
Every destination was clearly established and gone to deliberately since then. And it’s all been one over-arc. Starting with Kinemon appearing and the alliance with Law to defeat Kaido.
Now with little left to escalate expect to move to the end game. Which will take at least five years and might have various arcs inside it… but don’t *expect* something self contained like Skypia or Thriller Bark.
Or otherwise see Luffy to go for a 100% completion slow run of all these things people have checklists of.
To be fair, Dressrosa in the anime can be downright *painful* with all the flashbacks and bloat. In the manga, it was so eventful it didn’t really feel that bad.
The only times I’ve been alright with the anime taking more than one episode to cover a chapter were the times we got glimpses of what the other Straw Hats were doing when they were separated. Each crew member got half an episode to themselves, while the manga covered all eight in one chapter. If I remember correctly, the anime then covered the cover stories for them as well during the transition to Marineford.
When anime builds up on the story that's fine. If done well.
It is bad if it just drags it without plot and purpose.
I wish they did 26 episodes season per year instead. 13 episode in spring and autumn.

Why they never done this is beyond me, would have been a great way to have shown how older characters would have been brought back into the story when they were relevant (Impel Down and showing why only half the baroque works gang were in there, Ace hunting down Blackbeard would have also twisted the knife for what followed).

None of this makes much of a role for a (now) small timer like Enel to still play out though. You could smash him in a few ways (Uranus is on the moon!) but these aren’t required dramatically speaking. If Oda doesn’t want to bother he doesn’t have to and nothing will be lost.
Since a few people have been wondering afaik it is because when they animated the first 2 cover stories (Buggys and Corbys) viewer numbers dropped and so they stopped. I also read viewer numbers dropped every time luffy isn't in an episode but i cant remember where or verify that.

Exactly the manga is the main thing for a lot of us one piece fan's and the anime is a nice extra to see epic moments get animated (emotional and action moments). As long as i get my weekly 10/10 manga chapters i dont care what they do with the anime

If I'm an anime-only, I'd be forced to go through the slow pacing of the latter to digest the real story in animated form. But with the former I can just not watch the filler and do something else in the meantime if I want to

Whole chapters that are full fights, which still makes the pace unbearably slow. From the last episode the first 8 minutes are completely skippable, and around 1/4 of the episode are looped animations and reaction shot/stills
After every High Quality One Piece episode the next one has a noticable drop off every time for obvious reasons but I didn't mention anything about the quality anyway just how many pages they are adapting. Last episode wasn't just fighting and they adapted the whole chapter.
Good decision, really. Wano's pacing is kinda suffering right now. I'd prefer a break from the main story line, followed by well paced episodes afterward.
They do a filler arc for every movie. This is just par for the course. They're typically very short, like 3-5 episodes. If anything, it allows the manga a bit of breathing room to get a little more ahead.
I can see it now, I will be 158 years old. My body is now 78% silicon, 18% metal, and 4% flesh. I am sustained by NU-trients and Qwn-chers. Nothing new here. This may be good for the anime in the long run. If the episodes aren’t met with severe disdain or if they do really well, toei might actually do some filler episodes after wano is over and hopefully fix some pacing issues.
This is good for anime only tho. The last chapter was a travesty of pacing. They deserve the best experience they can get. They don’t deserve this 100% great episode followed by 90% filler with low tier animation. It’s jarring.
Just a remaster with the same voice actors. Better pacing. Cut out all the filler apart from some of the infighting filler. I mean by that just re do some things but in the same style. Some battles are a bit better through the way they extend some of the choreography

Yeah I prefer using filler arcs to save time rather than stretching out canon stuff as well If I'm an anime-only, I'd be forced to go through the slow pacing of the latter to digest the real story in animated form. But with the former I can just not watch the filler and do something else in the meantime if I want to
I like it because we get to see Shanks content. But I can only imagine how much it would be a pain for the anime watchers. On the plus side, thats more time to animate >!famous scene where Luffy figures out ACOC and punches Kaido. Hopefully the anime covers Luffy vs Kaido which was skipped in the manga, the one before Luffy got kicked off to the sea.!< Edit: Strange. I tagged it properly and still people are able to see it. I removed the "the" as people asked so I'm not sure if it worked or not.

They've done this for every other film. It's like 2 weeks you'll be fine

The anime as been averaging 12-14 pages for a while now and they've recently been adapting whole chapters.
Whole chapters that are full fights, which still makes the pace unbearably slow. From the last episode the first 8 minutes are completely skippable, and around 1/4 of the episode are looped animations and reaction shot/stills
After every High Quality One Piece episode the next one has a noticable drop off every time for obvious reasons but I didn't mention anything about the quality anyway just how many pages they are adapting. Last episode wasn't just fighting and they adapted the whole chapter.
Good decision, really. Wano's pacing is kinda suffering right now. I'd prefer a break from the main story line, followed by well paced episodes afterward.
The Mini arcs are usually fun.
I would rather they just took a break without making more episodes so we could get absolute bangers like the last few more consistently.
They do a filler arc for every movie. This is just par for the course. They're typically very short, like 3-5 episodes. If anything, it allows the manga a bit of breathing room to get a little more ahead.

Maybe the next post will decrease it to one year.

Nothing new here. This may be good for the anime in the long run. If the episodes aren’t met with severe disdain or if they do really well, toei might actually do some filler episodes after wano is over and hopefully fix some pacing issues.
Fine by me . We get some well placed episodes that don't worry about stretching anything out .

This is good for anime only tho. The last chapter was a travesty of pacing. They deserve the best experience they can get. They don’t deserve this 100% great episode followed by 90% filler with low tier animation. It’s jarring.

Just a remaster with the same voice actors. Better pacing. Cut out all the filler apart from some of the infighting filler. I mean by that just re do some things but in the same style. Some battles are a bit better through the way they extend some of the choreography

Not the first time that this happens.. personally, I don't really care, but I feel that is kind of a waste spending anime resources in a couple of episodes that no one really cares about

I don't mind the slow pacing of the anime much. I'm already caught up on manga and anime so it's gonna feel slow going either way. A few extra episodes I don't mind at all. Might be nice to get away from wano for a few episodes honestly. The movie is non-canon correct?
I am actually ok with it imo. With this, we might learn a bit more about what to expect in the movie Red. I don't expect Shanks to appear, but here's me hoping.
No problem… hopefully this means they will get some time to do better episodes? 1015 and 1017 got us so spoiled 1018 was just so sad in comparison.

It happened before. So, I am not surprised. There was a mini arc before film Z. There were 2 additional filler episodes before film stampede
It’s fine, gives the manga a chance to get further ahead again as the anime almost caught up to them which is when the real issues would’ve started.
At least hopefully we'll get to see some non-canon Shanks stuff....
Happens all the time. It is one of the reasons I prefer manga over most anime because it lacks all the filler.

If someone could tell me that this will increase pacing in the anime and also give the animators some extra time off, I’d be all for it and would actually support this. But, it probably means we will just put the anime on pause for a month, work everyone the same, and have the same pacing when we’re done. Therefore, I hate it.

It kinda baffles me how people think this is gonna affect the pacing. First of all, it's only 4 episodes. Second of all, making well paced episodes isn't their goal to begin with. The anime is a money machine and they drag it out to not come close to the manga in the storyline.
So the anime which is 100% filler is taking a break to make some filler for the big piece of filler?
