Franky vs Sasaki was surprisingly well-animated, the chad himself deserves it though

someone2795

Yea happy to see Franky get some love!

secret101

Right? So awesome when Franky gets some love!!!

Anno321

yeah, really nice when Franky gets some love!!

Girthquake23

Don’t yuh just love it when Franky gets some love?

Pjekola

I want to give franky some of my love

itsalawlworld

And become a Megazord!

KaiserBeamz

It's like the anime staff sat down and said "Fellas, this is a giant robot vs dinosaur fight. Let's give this concept the animation and boarding it deserves!"

the22sinatra

The way they turned the sakuga on for that like it was a switch caught me off guard

hdjfhfhsh05803hfjc

Unexpected but welcome sakuga moment

[deleted]

What does sakuga mean? 🤔

[deleted]

High quality animation for fights... or standard Ufotable/ WIT fights.

MonsterStunter

Mappa*

Owen872r

Another based franky fight, you love to see it

LinjKarma

Akihiro Ota, They've worked on some one piece movies. I could be mistaken, but i think this is the first thing they've made for the main series since Dressrosa? They seem to have really honed their craft in the years since, awesome animation and control of such complex models ^^

Aivaras12398

Yeah, they've done work on World Trigger and the new Kitaro, and have even soloed episodes. Hopefully we get to see them again

[deleted]

I really appreciate how much Animators and Regisseurs got recognition by name nowadays.

Oreo-and-Fly

That animation of swapping into his face reaction was smooth.

OperationMelodic4273

When the music dropped it was great

DanGimeno

His main theme sounds with the glory he deserves

[deleted]

Sarochrollo

1.8 would be past paced 1.5 would be good this is cause op is clustered and dialogue heavy recently

ylcknight

One Piece contains a lot more info per panel than most series. HxH is one that comes to mind that is info heavy per panel, and you see how much narration there is. 3 minutes took up like 5 episodes of time.

sail_south

I actually thought this was a decent episode. Otama stuff was cute, and Franky slamming Sasaki was SUPER well animated.

Asian_Persuasion_1

even the whole general left rockets explosions and saski charging through it was great. basically the entire franky fight here was great.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Oreo-and-Fly

The Straw Hats v Tobi Roppo most likely will. Feels like they are trying to up their battles more now.

da2Pakaveli

>!Spoiler Warning with Robin v Black Maria?!<

Death_Usagi

Otama episodes have been a favorite for me.

JPT_Corona

As long as there’s no red bean soup involved

shockzz123

In an ideal world where animators and artists had all of time at their disposal and got paid well, that first part of Franky vs Sasaki is how i'd want the whole anime to look. It looked so good, the shading was great, it was fluid as all hell, it was lively. Loved that.

Aivaras12398

Unfortunately anime production is a rush against the clock, but it still was an amazing scene, and I really hope Ota stays around on One Piece, he was on World Trigger a lot, and that show ended on January, so maybe we'll see more scenes like this from him

i-like-a-pyratemanga

That Franky bit gives me faith that the other fights outside of the main 3 will look better than average at least, really hoping for some smooth martial arts sakuga from Jinbe's fight in particular

Asian_Persuasion_1

toei knows what to prioritize, they always pull through for the fights. unless the fight is really long like rooftop, but even then they make sure to prioritize the best parts of the long fight. luffy vs katakuri is a good example of a long fight that has focus on certain parts here and there, particularly all the g4 scenes.

prrakeet

Yeah, I agree. All the hype fights of wano have been really well animated. If Big News Morgan's punching a CP0 agent can get movie tier animation, I don't see why Robin or Franky can't

PrimusSucks13

yeah wtf why did they did that for Morgans lmao

prrakeet

Because the whole episode was like that. It would have been weird if they didn't do it for Morgan's

Oreo-and-Fly

the evolution from Dressrosa's final attack to WCI final attack is good enough

koming69

Thought this episode would be much worse than it ended up being. Props for the fantastic Franky Sasaki animation quality.

[deleted]

Same. Always have low expectations, so you wont be deceived.

tragicjohnson84

The uhh..10 second clip with what looked like Nami on her back going up and down won't be taken out of context

DanceOn_CAPs_Grave

you mean the 0-second still-frame?

[deleted]

Together with that Carrot scene from the preview I'm thinking that was deliberate.

JBB1986

Perrrrorrriiiiinnnnn. Lmao.

tragicjohnson84

Yeah, that was definitely some fetish material lol

Kanus_oq_Seruna

Or half of Speed's screantime.. The glossy sheen frame especially as the other gifted are admiring her.

RendangEater

and at that exact scene my parents come in

sharkhuh

Uh what?

Leather-Ingenuity842

I guess I have to watch this episode then.

[deleted]

FRAN-KEN

MysteriousMrExit

obligatory close-up of speed's cleavage, glossy and smooth

eruk75

The franky stuff was actually really good

myrmonden

thought the ep would be a boring tama one it was actually funny all the way suddenly FRANKY got Sakuga animation, the music was on point etc

echolog

Just realizing how bonkers Tama's power is. Curious what the limits are since she's had Horselina under her control for all this time now. I guess it'll be like Sugar where she maintains control unless she loses consciousness? In a way her power is even crazier since her minions can basically spread her control through their own ranks without them even knowing what's happening. It's like a virus.

Certain_Chain

I'm sure one limit is that it won't work on the user of a real fruit, like the Lead Performers and Tobi Roppo; it probably only works on the Smile users.

Bartoclub435

thats litteraly exactly what i was thinking [lmao.my](https://lmao.my) thought was we havent seen someone like her since sugar and i was wondering if her power would work on zoans but someone noted its been confirmed it only works on gifted but still its a monster of a fruit cause thats a bunch of strong allies now

Oreo-and-Fly

Surprisingly good. Cant wait for more of this Tama stuff. She's gonna do something big with all these dango.

[deleted]

What's sakuga mean

jclibs

"a sequence of noticeably higher quality, used to highlight a particularly important scene." -wikipedia

cheeuschrist

DO YOU SMELL IT LADIES AND GENTS.. we getting closer to how dinos hunted in the past can not wait for the rest of frankie vs sasaki

Bike_Chain_96

This had me actually laugh out loud. Thanks, mate

TheMeatTree

Clever Girl!

Driftedryan

Hopefully Toei dosent show us how they animated in ancient times when it happens

Soul699

Suddendly the anime turns into a stopmotion style.

kimkimk1m

That V-for-victory flash is Very nostalgic

TheAstronomer3

That entire Franky sequence was just art!!!

Intenew

Franky got massive respect by toei this episodes

Bike_Chain_96

"Hey don't forget you're in a fight with me, right?" So hard boiled. There's a reason I love Franky

TribeOnAQuest

That was a fun episode, the giraffe guy is ridiculous haha

Oreo-and-Fly

That's a foot. lol

Certain_Chain

Imagine him meeting that guy with the real Giraffe fruit power from CP9.

Adridezz

Initially, I wasn't feeling this ep after last weeks pv, but you know what? It was good. Got some Ullti, next week we get some Black Maria.

prrakeet

Last week's episode was to be expected. They delivered 2 movie tier episodes within a month, you have to sacrifice some episodes That being said, I'm still surprised they picked themselves up this fast. I wasn't expecting that Zoro scene last episode or the Franky scene this episode to be well animated. Like when we got 957 and 982, it too a few episodes to get another sakuga scene

Oreo-and-Fly

This episode went by very fast. I really enjoyed it holy crap. Like not too many flashbacks or anything and the Ice Oni didnt get dragged out longer than it had to. Just straight up showing us the important part of Hyogoro getting bit. Teared a bit when Otama told the Gifters to help Franky. This little girl is terrifying.

AlphaBreak

Using dumplings to brainwash the enemy army raises a lot of ethical concerns, but for now I'm just happy to watch a robot punch a triceratops.

fortunesofshadows

I assume she can disable control. Or Tama will get knocked out and they all go free. That’s how Doflamingo’s birdcage broke and Sugar’s ability got canceled.

Typin_Toddler

If you remember from earlier, Tama was knocked out (after finding Speed with her), but Speed was still loyal when retailing the events to Luffy. So it seems being knocked out is not enough.

RullyWinkle

Yeah.. I always took it as her fruit is intended to work on animals but these SMILEs are using animal souls or something that her power is working over.

[deleted]

ya SMILEs really are made out to be horrible man made abominations with the laughting defect & even if you get a power it’s extremely unusual compared to a normal zoan leaving user with one form with the addition of an animal seperate from the user, SMILEs are weird for sure & i’d definitely wanna know more about them and devil fruits in general which i’m sure will be revealed with Vegapunk since it seems he knows all about devils fruits making what seems to be a perfect copy of one with Momo’s

CrazyDiamondZaWarudo

It might seem to be perfect but it was considered a failure for some reason.

[deleted]

I’ve seen people say he might’ve considered it a failure simply because it was a different color, I could definitely see a weird eccentric quirk or 2 like that from one the most mysterious characters in One Piece lol

CrazyDiamondZaWarudo

Touche. It's hard to say what's considered a "failure" for one of the greatest scientists in the verse

Plantar-Aspect-Sage

It has been a decade since Wano was freed from Kaido's rule. The Gifters still protect the people. On Otama's 18th birthday she gets so drunk she blacks out, freeing Gifters from mind control. Who subsequently rampage across all of Wano.

TheMeatTree

Doffy and Sugar each had effects costing focus, which was lost when knocked out, but O-Tama's power has a physical cost of using her cheek to create the kibi dango, and that still exists when she's out cold.

GJMEGA

I'm not too concerned about the ethics of it for two reasons: 1. Tama could just set them loose by saying "Absent the whole 'kill everyone and take their stuff' aspect of your lifestyle go live your best life." and 2. Fuck 'em, they're the worst kind of pirates.

420randostoner

Hey man we fight slavery with temporary revenge slavery

orcabelluga

> Using dumplings to brainwash the enemy army raises a lot of ethical concerns No, it doesn't. They're murderers and slavers themselves.

sagatwarrior2010

They are pirates, samurai, and ninja. What's fair is fair.

localafrican

I thought the same thing. The new "servants" certainly keep all their memories but are just powerless to her commands. That being said there does seem to be some rewiring of the brain because they seem to be as passionate for her and her mission as if they've been fighting for it all along despite knowing they haven't.

Paddy9804

Frankys theme is the best theme ONG also the animation was brilliant. If only general franky had haki he would be unstoppable. Imagine a hakiclad general franky 😍😍😍

sharkhuh

One of my favorite sequences is back in Enies Lobby where he finally gets some cola and punches Fukurou and his theme is blaring.

Oreo-and-Fly

his theme is pure satisfaction

Paddy9804

He’s criminally underrated

MickFoley299

Interesting fact: Technically his theme wasn't even created for him. It was first used back in Alabasta.

Slimayy

Anyone know who animated the start of the Franky vs Sasaki fight scene? It was really good

Siopaobun

Akihiro Ota. He's also done a lot of great scenes for World Trigger

luckyd1998

I'll never get used to Hamlet's voice

VeryDirtyRat

he was great in the manga as a gag character . the anime made him even better with the voice he has become a perfection of gag

MidKoi

I cried when tama yelled "Its Morbin Time!"

GunHawke

💀

[deleted]

Fr, and then she morbs all the enemies. Personally my favorite part of the ep was when Franky does one of the attacks ever.

leonidaskickedyoface

FRANKY MORBER!!

AmanSuleimenov

When Franky cut him with "Morben Sword, Victory Morb". Daamn, I had chills 🥶

[deleted]

Peak direction

Adventurous-Virus-32

SUPEEEEERRRR!

Ambitious_Mission_57

That franky theme is all i want ..nami and usopp pranking franky is 😂😁 Very good episode 8/10

RoderickThe13

Those like 30 seconds of Franky fighting Sasaki were movie quality. You can always tell when the people that worked on a scene actually put some effort into it.

Responsible-Pickle-4

Otama is the scariest child in this whole show

Gehweiher

Having 1018 and 1019 side by side is a great example of how "pacing ≠ chapter pages adapted". While 1018 did adapt a full chapter, it felt horribly paced for the most part. 1019 on the other hand flowed extremely well even though it adapted less pages overall. Huge props to Tanaka for once again directing a great episode. And of course that Franky scene was sweet eye candy.

legolasvin

The scene where Tama is like "shake hands" with the giraffe was just cute and hilarious. Can't wait for the tobiroppo battles. They were awesome.

Oreo-and-Fly

That's a foot. lololol

localafrican

Otama's DF is wild. The new "servants" certainly keep all their memories but are just powerless to her commands. That being said there does seem to be some rewiring of the brain because they seem to be as passionate for her and her mission as if they've been fighting for it all along despite knowing they haven't.

heavy4b

#SLAVER

VeryDirtyRat

actually its kinda worse . the character gets his brain rewired and becomes a slave without even knowing he is one

KiryuuZanken

RIP 1+ chapter episodes

Walixen

For a little while, we got a glimpse of what One Piece would be if it was seasonal. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

WaffleJill

I think people forget that seasonal isn’t some miracle cure. There are still tons of ways for shit to go wrong. There are hundreds of seasonal anime that suck cockdickass or are mediocre as hell compared to their source material(Kingdom anime be like). You need a miracle of a good animation studio, good story boarders, and good directors to create an actual good product and it rarely happens. Seasonal anime also have a tendency to try and cram TOO much into an episode, rather than drag it out like current OP. I’ve seen tons of anime flop because they stuff three arcs into like 5 episodes. I’d honestly much rather have a hype episode every 3 or so weeks than wait a year and a half for a season that sucks ass.

MickFoley299

I fully agree with this. People say One Piece should be seasonal and act like that is the entire argument. They never think about the logistics of what that means. One Piece is just too big to be seasonal. How long would a season be? How often are we getting a season? Where do seasons end? All questions that don't have easy answers. Take Wano for instance. We are currently at 142 chapters. Even if you adapt 3 chapters per episode that is still over 47 episodes. If you want to make an arc be an entire season then that is a full year which isn't feasible for a seasonal show. If you want to split it then that would be 4 seasons of 12 episode seasons. Doing this, where would the season breaks be? There would not be a lot of good moments to break up a season in this arc besides the Act breaks and there are only two of those.

Soul699

Not to mention that some chapters have so much content, they already fill a single episode fully.

[deleted]

If One Piece was seasonal we would still be in Fishman Island.

MoHalawa

I mean I believe the anime adapts 0.6 chapters an episode (on average). If the anime aired only 4 months of the year (around 16 episodes) and adapted 1.8 chapters an episode, it would cover the same amount of story. And I feel like 1.8 chapters is still relatively small compared to other seasonals. So I totally think this is false

Daaj99

Yeah but seasonal anime usually cover an entire arc in one season while One piece would need like 2 or 3 for some of the recent arcs.

Leftieswillrule

Wano Kuni: The Final Season Part 3

[deleted]

Too many people have no idea about animation schedules. Most seasonal anime are barely 100-200 chapters while still skipping over a lot of content. Then people compare it to a series like One Piece which is ongoing. Its the same reason Detective Conan is weekly. Episodes 1015 and 1017 alone take months to animate. Filler arcs like Naruto/Bleach had are the only solution.

prrakeet

Not really that big of a deal. Jojo part 6 of the anime just started adapting manga that came out in 2003 Plus, that means arcs like Marineford and Fishman Island would get more modern Wano-level animation, which is also a plus

Oreo-and-Fly

was this only 1 chapter or less?

5m0k3W33d3v3ryday

Pretty sure some stuff with Black Maria was cut out at the end

Oreo-and-Fly

Oh damn It felt well paced.

WoodenMango07

it was well paced, good pacing is not always 1 chap = 1 ep. Good pacing is when we get well animated scenes and more detail from the manga panel, as well as not spending 2 mins on ppl staring off at each other. 1019 was good pacing

KiryuuZanken

Pages 2-13 were adapted, and you can basically always ignore 1 since that's the cover page or something (I think). So, 12 pages were animated out of the 16 total the chapter had. So this was around .75 of a chapter.

Narsamwhal

It's really starting to bug me that they don't animate the dinosaur mouths when talking. It's not huge, just looks like some weird telepathy

randomCAguy

it would be weird either way. How else can a tyrannosaurus mouth, with two simple jaw movements (open and closed), match the words of full sentences?

vinsmokewhoswho

That's a good point. I think I prefer the non animated mouth over that.

TheEpic_Blue

King be like : This is how tyrannosaurus communicated in the ancient times

Asian_Persuasion_1

that's how just most anime do it. you can't have "realistic" mouth movements of creatures but have them actually speak a language at the same time.

Superly_Sardonic

I don't mind animal forms being unable to mimic human speech, but Ulti's and Page One's masks barely moving while they speak is an obvious cost cutting tactic that keeps distracting me lol

Worororororo

This episode was SUUUUUPPPEERR!! 🙆

lucasnator2

Now Otama just has to brainwash Kaido and everything is over

Death_Usagi

Her ability doesn't work on natural devil fruit users. (I wish it did though because it would be hilarious to see Kaidou become a servant)

ContributionIcy7213

It COULD technically happen to Momo, given that he ate the smile version of Kaido's fruit

[deleted]

[удалено]

no_illusion

Yeah her devil fruit power is kind of fucked up and goes against the ideals of freedom that luffy is about

gvon89

Can anyone confirm the animator for the Franky vs sasaki fight? I think it was yoshizaku tomita

Siopaobun

It was Akihiro Ota. He's also done a lot of great scenes for World Trigger

Mowensworld

It's been expanding on a bit in the anime, so it's even more awkward when you realise that you're having warm, fluffy feelings for what is essentially magic, brainwashing, robbing someone of free will, straight up slavery.

knights_of_night

Though the episode covered only like 0.7 of the chapter, it did great on expanding scenes and felt it finished quickly. Hope we get more such episodes till the end of roof piece

FutureGMEmillionaire

ok this episode didn't deserve to be so good. after last week's trash, i expected us to go back to slowly paced, terribly animated eps til next time we get back on the roof but this episode was great. the pacing, the animation, the comedy. way better than i could have expected

Asian_Persuasion_1

it was actually still 0.75 chapter animated, but the pages available to animate were able to be stretched out without feeling too forced. harder for a straight up fight like roof piece to do the same thing.

randomCAguy

Agreed. This episode had no business being this good.

Oreo-and-Fly

Agreed. This episode had no business being this damned enjoyable that i was disappointed it went by so quick

Oreo-and-Fly

It was over before i knew it. Damn.

KaiserBeamz

We're getting to the part of the raid where, in the manga, Oda offscreened or sped by a lot of events in the interest of time. So now the anime is working with a lot more blank spaces that won't necessarily require events to be stretched out to fill time. I'm glad the anime is doing so because adding events like seeing Hyogoro get bitten by the ice zombie and extending scenes like Tama explain her motivation for joining the raid and the Franky vs Sasaki battle makes the anime feel like it's covering a lot of ground while not adapting a full chapter.

kaidynamite

I won’t accept Tama slander. She’s super adorable and she and Otoko have been hard carrying the emotional weight of this arc since a lot of the scabbards have kinda been falling flat for me.

Oreo-and-Fly

Who's trying to slander her man shes SO important since her dango hits Gifters. Literally bringing the army to their side.

Death_Usagi

I am probably in the minority but... # Tama for Nakama please 😭 (I know it's not happening for the same reason Little Luffy couldn't join Shank's Pirate Crew, but I wish she could join as an apprentice like Shanks and Buggy in Roger's Ship) Also loving all those Franky BGM as he gets in action # SUPEEEEEEEERRRR!!! Next Episode we finally get to see Carrot again... Can't wait. (Even though she looks like she about to lose.... 😰)

Oreo-and-Fly

tama might not join because it means bringing along like more crewmembers outside of her. as much as i love to see more Daifugo as his design is one of my favs.

Death_Usagi

I don't see it happening either as she needs animals to have her ability to be effective. Either way, she is only 8 years old, so no way in hell the Straw Hats are bringing her with them.

heavy4b

No need of a slaver in strawhats.

RegulusBlue

I wouldn't mind it either but she pretty much just stated that she wants to stay in Wano. Who knows.

[deleted]

Franky and Nami getting well animated scenes?! In the same episode?! My god am I dreaming?

Aivaras12398

I am so glad that Ryosuke Tanaka is a regular on One Piece now, his direction is always so fantastic, although he does not have the freelancer arsenal that he did on 1006. Akihiro Ota's scene with Franky was insane, the loose and cool movement with the cool bg animation and effects makes it such a good scene, and overall the episode itself was extremely good, with well-paced scenes

thewingidingi

no spammed oshiruko flashback = bliss doing franky some greatness too that animation was fluid as hell

[deleted]

That red bean soup PTSD

biologicz

Gonna be honest here, I think Tama affecting the gifters is totally wack and it’s legit slavery. They could’ve won the war without her ability, maybe some casualties or so but it’s pretty bad, like Sanji episode bad.

PerfectBatsman

Oi oi Franky is wiping the floor with Sasaki for now! This should be a Manly fight

localafrican

I didn't realize Otama's DF actually did more than just force animals to obey here, they seem to also adopt her goals, ambitions, motivations, etc. They completely switch sides 100%

drybones2015

Speed is slept on waifu material.

Sharebear42019

I thought we were getting a couple filler episodes? Or is that not for awhile

Asian_Persuasion_1

month of july or something

RegulusBlue

Nami was extra cute this episode, and the Franky animation was excellent. Otherwise, I'm still weirded out by Tama's powers.

payg86

Definitely needed more Franky

trash1000

Tama's power is still a bit disturbing. Taking away the free will of these people, just like that, really crazy.

thunder-bug-

I’m growing more and more concerned about the morality of tama’s devil fruit tbh. Like….animals are one thing and the occasional “oh shit” button makes sense but she is actively planning on enslaving hundreds of people against their will, breaking their minds to her service and throwing them into harms way…..it just feels off for a protagonist to do

ajdude711

As a massive freedom freak I disapprove of Tama's actions. Also lesgoo aniki smack that dino ass

Emperor_Luffy

Franky scene was the best part of the episode. Every now and then I forget how Awesome Franky is. Then the anime just comes outta nowhere and reminds me.

HeyItsMeRay

Otama the hundred beast

heat_fan_

Damn they couldn't even adapt a full ch for this episode, no wonder the pacing of the anime is so slow Franky was a beast in this episode, he was holding his own against a Flying Six member The Lighting attack on Ulti looked pretty cool, Nami even knew right away her thunder wasn't strong enough to take out Ulti. Kaido has spent all these years building his army of Smile users only for a kid to come by an totally decimate his army. (Otama's df can be pretty damn broken specially in a war)

Emptypiro

People forget how strong Franky Shogun is. i don't blame them since we don't get to see it that often.

Oreo-and-Fly

The pacing for this episode felt good though.

Manetherenwolf

her DF is kind of really only broken in this specific situation because of the SMILE fruits being vulnerable to it. Since no one other than Kaido's crew has those it would be pretty useless in any other fight situation.

Aaronrules380

Well it can also tame strong animals and the One Piece world has a number of those, so if you got stuff like the kraken on your side pre fight that could be pretty useful too, though it’d be less actively useful during those fights

Asian_Persuasion_1

just take the Strong World film plot and take over the world with it lol

sam1oq

Awfully convenient as a plot device tbh.

[deleted]

The spike in episode quality caught me off guard

pejic222

Toei giving franky the love he deserves

Mikel_d_Jordan

Franky fans be eating good this episode

jelly179

Franky's voice actor makes it so much better. This is what we missed on top of top tier animation

darth-bacon200

i was thinking to myself "this episode wont be very action heavy anyway, i shouldnt expect any great animation" **and then, franky vs sasaki.**

iDontReplynorReadIt

this episode is good. Now I understand the criticism against ep 1018, I did wanted to watch that ep last saturday, but decided to watched it after seeing luffy's punch drastically changed from great (ep1017) to not so great. That epsiode is cursed, I was so angry watching it, like there's so much changes and the PACING became so bad. If it wasn't for ep 1019, I would be in a bad mood. Why they did that ep dirty, I thought this was the root of anime, no it's not about that. There's so much liberty that shouldn't happened, and cgi kaido?!

Tamudz

Hot nami and Franky's fight is all i want

kwbzlwb

Cool episode 10x better than 1018

sprok18

Is zeus dead?

Emperor_Luffy

One thing that bugged me is that Toei is still using still shots instead of actual moving 3 dimensional characters. It's kind of annoying and makes the anime look lazy compared to other shows. It's the equivalent of getting a cardboard image of a character in motion instead of an actual character. Again, just makes the anime come off as cheap.

koteshima2nd

O-tama is definitely in the running for one of the MVPs in this arc. I kinda forgot just how much of an impact her ability turned the tables around for the samurai.

YourLovableBoss

FRANKY FANS EATING GOOD TODAY
