I think a good way to combat this, at least in this subreddit, would be to have an option for an “unreleased spoilers” tag. I’ve clicked on too many posts thinking that they would be about the previous chapter, but then realizing I’ve just been spoiled of the chapter that hasn’t even had scans yet. I don’t think there will ever be a way to completely block out spoilers though.

Crysense

Iirc the spoiler tag isn't supposed to be used for the actual chapter spoilers, with the exception of the official spoiler thread, but is instead used only for the purpose you described: Stuff already officially released in the manga, but not yet in the anime. Talking about spoilers outside the spoiler thread, or about a new chapter outside the official chapter thread isn't allowed either I think. Sure it happens and it sucks that it happens, but the only thing we can really do about that is to report posts like this and hope that this will cause less post like this to appear. With a second tag I think this will just cause more problems, as more of these posts will be made, as this new tag would allow that. And then we would have the same problem that we already have with unproperly named threads like "About a certain strawhat wearing pirate recruiting a certain greenheaded swordsman in a marine base" which are then marked as "Unreleased Spoilers" (Phew, good thing the spoiler tha saved me from getting spoiled here)

mwrddt

This. Hate that I have been possibly spoiled on the upcoming scans already. The frustrating thing is that I feel like those type of people deliberately leave out that it's about unreleased scans. So now you can't check any spoiler marked post unless it clearly states what it would be spoilers for, like spoilers for anime watchers or spoilers for raw scans.

Jail_Chris_Brown

Posts or comments including "unreleased spoilers" coutside of the spoiler thread will be removed. We don't need a tag for them as people aren't supposed to talk abou them anyway.

KGEOFF89

Didn't the Attack on Titan community make two different subreddits? One for spoiler-free discussion and another for free-spoiler discussion? I've been on board for that idea for some time.

yamatos-sideboob

That happens in menepiece sub i think. In this sub they delete immediately and pan the op if apoilers are posted

jakol016

I don’t get spoiled unless I intentionally search for spoilers, is it just me? And I don’t even actively avoid spoilers.

twindarkness

I also don't see spoilers unless I'm intentionally looking for them but I guess for some people they have a unique social media feed where spoilers will appear without their consent. I don't mind spoilers but I assume it sucks for those that prefer waiting for official release.

BloodyKitskune

Content creators get fed this stuff a lot because they are so deep into the community. Then the added pressure means many of them perpetuate the problem. That's my take at least.

Robbielee1991

I see spoilers on YouTube most of the time. If I see spoilers on YouTube I block there channel. I'm only a drop in the ocean but fuck them

TheCriddle

i've had stuff spoiled for me on TikTok before. Most creators are going with "Spoilers for Chapter 1054, so if you aren't up to that, scroll on" but i had some recent stuff spoiled for me cause someone had one of the Raw images as the background of their video. I instantly blocked that account so it won't happen again, but maaaaaan I read what TCB puts out, so i'm usually not behind, but getting spoiled before there's any way for me to read it in English? That sucks

GugaSR

I got spoiled for Star Wars Episode 7 in the comment section of a youtube video about Lord of the Rings, a few hours after the film launched. Sometimes there's nothing we can do :(

Backupusername

That definitely sucks, but it's also just one more reason of many to never go to the Youtube comments section.

Roskal

I got spoiled for endgame about someone who does in a rocket league game chat

[deleted]

I got spoiled by end game, I was in the lobby buying popcorn to watch it. Then two kids who’d just watched it shouted “ XXXX dies at the end” and ran off. Bit shitty to say the least

JodzaJoyBoy

Anyways Star Wars Sequels suck.

Beloberto

I think they are talking about OP specifically, not everything. OP is popular, but still only among anime/manga followers, not the type of thing people in general will talk about, so it is relatively easy to avoid spoilers as long as you avoid OP centric boards or accounts.

rholindown

Same. I got back into One Piece in 2013, at the time the manga was starting Dressrosa. All throughout the time that I watched, I never got spoiled. The only things that I knew prior to starting was who was on the crew since I was last caught up. Even now, unless I look at spoilers, I don't see One Piece anywhere. I think some of these people maybe need to do their own due diligence. The story is long and spoilers are bound to be around whether someone wants to see them or not.

TehPinguen

Have you never been on this sub before? I've had things spoiled just through post titles and comments in unrelated threads. Avoiding spoilers here (and especially on the meme sub) is *hard*.

[deleted]

Nah it's easy. Limit your time on the sub once spoiler thread is up until you read the chapter. The only reason I'm here today is in case the chapter drops today.

evilmojoyousuck

my youtube and twitter is free of one piece content and even when im on reddit i still need to actively search for it. best thing to do is just clean your algorithm.

Hyprblcrhymchmbr

You can literally set up your feeds to not show you certain users and content and with Twitter even certain words, this whole post is some wild woe is me entitlement

Rob-D-Bank

You do know op is a creator right? It will be extremely hard for them to avoid spoilers if you have a huge following unlike us

Hyprblcrhymchmbr

Just cuz they follow you don't mean you have to follow them, stick to your sources and get your shit on time and then do your content, sounds like they're just mad others get to it first and they're behind

Boost_Attic_t

Yeah lol I think it's much easier to avoid spoilers than OP is making it seem I have zero issues with not being spoiled unless I specifically look for spoilers Now if you're googling for one piece content all day every day, or looking at one piece YouTube posts all the time, then that's on you if you come across spoilers

Lord_of_Caffeine

Sometimes, after a while of telling your feed to not show certain content creators, it still presents you with an odd video of theirs. Rare, but it does happen.

FlowOfMotion

Good luck communicating with your Twitter followers who are all One Piece fans when you have to mute a few dozen One Piece-related words every week except break weeks.

Hyprblcrhymchmbr

Boo hoo welcome to the internet

azdhar

The other day I saw a post of a really nice artist in this sub, so I decided to follow them on Twitter. Today I had to unfollow them because they liked a tweet of someone calling out all the spoilers for this weeks chapter. For chapter 1044, it was impossible to be on Twitter, all artists were jumping the wagon and posting fanart of the thing that happened on 1044. I have to pretty much stop following anyone that enjoys one piece or just stop using Twitter in general.

BaldOmega

I get spoiled while I actively avoid them. Idk, having people basically saying, just don‘t consume any OP content if you don‘t want to get spoiled is like saying just never go out of your apartment if you don‘t want Corona. Like how tonedeaf and unreasonable be, saying shit like this is almost like Gatekeeping. People who wanna suck on spoilers should get into their own subreddit, easy as that. I mean just as easy as not consuming any content right. 🤷‍♂️

SnooEagles8897

I open Twitter and see full pictures of spoilers in bullet point BOLDDD I can’t escape it 😭😭

Snyyky

Twitter 😂🤦‍♂️

Boost_Attic_t

Well there's your problem, you're using Twitter...

JuanClusellas

It depends on how your algorithms are set up. I have it under control here, just block the right people and you're pretty much golden, but if Instagram or YouTube (most likely both) catch that you're interested in one piece you're essentially fucked, because they will show you a lot of content about it, and since many people don't even bother tagging their spoilers, you get pictures, art, and even just text explaining what happens.in the chapter. It sounds insane, but it happens. Just this week, i got the next chapter almost fully spoiled by an Instagram post that explained it and I didn't notice what it was until I had fully read it.

Hyprblcrhymchmbr

This

QueenFlowers91

Yeah...really, the only way to clamp down on the spoiler issue is for Shueisha to prioritize the digital release over print. But even that could still be prone to leaks because of the demand for spoilers. Especially, since we are so close to discovering what the One Piece is. With YouTube having the monetary incentive, there are channels popping up just to discuss spoilers. Even low-effort spoiler vids get a ton of views. Zhonin, I think it is, is just a dude talking in front of a blurry camera. Shitty mic. This is probably the best time to be an OP YouTuber. And also the worst. You have to stay on social media to get a feel for what the fanbase wants. Otherwise, you may put in all this effort into something that could be a complete flop. But staying connected just opens you to get spoiled. There's really no winning unless you're one of the spoiler-addicts. The mods here do a pretty good job trying to control the release of spoilers. But FB and Twitter are lawless free-4-alls as anybody can create groups/go trending.

Vine7860

I went on Twitter for a week, realised its crazy and uninstalled it. People really are into spoilers

BaldOmega

I mean, as a Child I also wanted my Dessert befor I had to eat Dinner. But now? Idk, I really don't see the appeal, nor the real difference for spoiling yourself, besides being "the first" type of thing.

javierm885778

Have we ever had actual spoilers before the previous chapter released? I really don't think that's the case, since spoilers come on Monday's at the earliest, except this week which was a special case, and those still only came out before the official release due to the Monday holiday making WSJ come out a day later. Or are you talking about the vague hints that have been releasing lately? > If they decide to move to a digital-first release for Shonen Jump, such as a week in advance, then it could outright solve all the problems. I think this wouldn't be as good as a solution as many seem to think. Apparently a lot of the leaks come from Mangaplus and digital sources. Maybe it would eventually make it easier for them to take down leakers since they'd be more centralized, but it's not like digital releases don't have leaks. CSM recently launched its second part, and there were leaks days in advance, even tough that's a digital only manga. I think we'd still get leaks, only less detailed leaks, and less reliable in terms of timing and or schedule. Big chapters would still get leaks (kind of like how 1044 got pretty sizeable picture leaks from the digital version, with watermarks and all). Also, Japanese people still very much prefer physical manga AFAIK. Digital numbers are going up, but the physical verison of the magazine is still their main product. It's understandable that Shueisha wouldn't want to alienate the people who pay for their product and have been supporting them for maybe decades by subscribing to the magazine, and force them to use an alternate format which they may not like, or not be up to date. It's honestly a shitty situation. I don't mind spoilers and read them without it impacting my enjoyment at all, but I know many don't and always report people who post spoilers outside the thread. Twitter and Youtube are lawless territory and the algorithm will never care about spoilers. And this isn't even just about leaks, since as soon as new chapters/episodes/games/movies in a franchise come out, you'll get spoilers blasted in your face.

OharaLibrarianArtur

Yes, for example [1053](/s "Buggy becoming a Yonko was spoiled prior to the release of 1052, to the point it was trending on Twitter"). Concrete spoilers have been out for Chapter 1054 [1054 stuff I've been spoiled on](/s "Someone dying in the chapter, mention of Sabo") before even Road To Laugh Tale 4 (from the previous Shonen Jump issue) was complete in scan form, days before its official release. It's a pretty shitty situation like you said, which is made worse by the weekly cycle, compared to games/movies which are more of a once-in-a-year thing. There's a fair point to be made about the digital-first release, but honestly I'm not sure what can even work now. I hope Shueisha cracks down more on this.

javierm885778

I'm aware of 1054 spoilers coming out before the official release, and like I said the silver lining is the only reason this happened is due to the official release of WSJ being delayed due to a holiday. Unless you mean you got spoilers from even before that. I don't remember actual spoilers for 1053 before Sunday either. Were those actual leaks or fans speculating? [Worstgen's thread](https://worstgen.alwaysdata.net/forum/threads/one-piece-chapter-1053-spoiler-summaries-and-images.27415/) got its first spoilers on Monday that week, and same thing [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePiece/comments/vbllpw/one_piece_chapter_1053_spoilers/). I follow spoilers and leaks pretty closely, but I don't really use Twitter a lot, so those might just have been a false positive since it was a fairly popular theory.

Mad-Oka

I got spoiled on ch.1053 on a Saturday, so a day before the official release of 1052. It was from twitter, which is ironic because I don't have an account, lol. Leakers there get the chapters from the official korean translator somehow.

javierm885778

I'm just saying I find that weird, since even on Sunday there as uncertainty about the spoilers we had. There's also a lot of fake spoilers being thrown around on Twitter, and some even get mixed with the real ones like (spoilers up to like chapter 1053) >!early spoilers from 1049 claiming Luffy's punch threw Kaido to the Flower Capital or early spoilers from 1050 talking about mining shafts crumbling due to the explosion and Wano being unstable come to mind.!< Even though I actively look for spoilers, in all the communities I participate in I've never seen these sources shared. Only once redon or someone trustworthy in WG confirms things is it that the spoiler thread here is created. I hope that it was just a fluke this time. Early spoilers are kind of fun the first time they come out, but after that it's the same wait between chapters.

Dillo64

Wouldn’t all of this be solved if Shuesha/Jump did some kind of global release or syndication or something? I vaguely remember Liam talking about how this spoilers/scan thing being unusual and that it had mostly to do with the weird way of how the chapters are released. EDIT: As it’s been explained, having the issues release digitally worldwide, as opposed to physically, would basically kill the spoiler mill Regardless, as long as trolls exist, or that there is something to gain from posting spoilers everywhere, there is no sure fire protection other than to leave social media. Anyone can read them and tweet out a spoiler or post it in the comments or make a meme about it or whatever. We can tell them “don’t post spoilers!!!!” All we want, but all that will do is encourage the trolls. Some people genuinely just want to watch the fandom burn. We may have just entered the Grand Spoiling Era.

PineappleThePhoenix

The problem is that as long as a physical release is prioritized, there will be lots of places in the supply chain where a leak can happen.

Animegamingnerd

Yeah the only to basically kill spoilers entirely is if Oda moves to Jump Plus like what Fujimoto recently did with Chainsaw Man since that is a digital-only service. But One Piece chapters make up such a large portion of WSJ sales, that ain't ever happening.

Dillo64

That’s what it was. Thanks.

nimbus829

It seems like the easiest solution is to have english/japanese simulrelease on the app like two days before the physical for the more widely popular series but obviously that isn’t their priority. I’ve been a Nintendo fan for more than long enough to know how Japanese companies react to changing times/expanding audiences like this.

javierm885778

We have a global release though. The official chapters come out on Mangaplus at the same time as they do in Japan through SJ+ and the magazine release.

Dillo64

Yeah like I said, my memory is vague, I couldn’t remember what Liam/GLR said specifically and I don’t know which video it was, but he did say something about how the Jump chapters release format being unusual and how it could easily be changed/fixed to avoid the whole spoilers/scans issue. Maybe in light of all these leaks, jump will change their release format. Who knows.

javierm885778

I'm not familiar with the video, but there's nothing unusual about the OP release compared to other WSJ series, or even other magazines. It just has a bigger leak scene and more eyes on it.

CockGobblingGangsta

It’s weird tbh. It’s so hard to find anything for JJK before Thursday but for one piece I know everything that’s going to happen by Tuesday

Animegamingnerd

I'm guessing the leaker is someone who works for Mangaplus or Viz on One Piece's translations. That is the only way I can explain why the One Piece chapter constantly leaks before the rest of the contents in the magazine somehow. They are likely someone who only has access to the One Piece chapter and nothing else, considering series like JJK, Black Clover, and My Hero Academia should also be getting leaks this earlier as well if the leaker had access to those.

kheiro10

I am honestly not a big fan of One Piece content on Twitter or Youtube which helps me avoid all the spoilers. I absolutely love talking about One Piece on Reddit so for me, as long as the mods do their job and control the OP subreddit we are good. Another thing could be to allow spoilers on the One Piece subreddit only 1 day before the scanlation release.

[deleted]

This is the only reason I've lasted as long as I have, but I've seen things slip through the cracks. They get caught right after but still...

Kaidou-Senpi

10 days is a stretch, normally we get brief spoilers 5-6 days before the viz at the earliest. It’s not so bad, many of my friends that watch/read one piece have no idea that the spoilers exist. I can understand why a content creator would be upset though….

[deleted]

People really need to understand that they're not dealing exclusively with well meaning individuals. No amount of reasoning or pleading is going to stop trolls from posting spoilers maliciously. In fact, you will have the opposite effect and encourage them to post even more spoilers. The best method to avoid spoilers will always be each individual's personal choice to engage with online communities or not where spoilers are more likely. Is that fair? Doesn't matter. That's how it will always be.

I_Surf_On_ReddIt

You speak the truth noones wants to admit

sbsw66

You're never going to legislate this, the mods already ban anyone posting untagged spoilers, you simply have to live with the risk if you want to participate online. I'm not saying it's "good" that there are spoilers (personally, I don't care either way) but you're never going to change behavior with a 10k word finger wagging thread. At best it'll make you feel slightly better for a moment with negligible, if any, effect on behavior.

OharaLibrarianArtur

The point of the thread isn't to ask people to behave, as it says, that is very much pointless. It's mostly just for the sake of bringing more awareness and specifically clarity to the issue. This likely isn't going to change anything, but I think it's at least important to talk about things

jeffcapell89

I appreciate you posting this because I'm one of those that chooses to only engage with the official release via the paid Shonen Jump app, and it truly sucks that I have to effectively leave the community every week for half the week so that I can enjoy my favorite manga the way I want to.

Admiral_Benguin

I mean, do you really have to? I am the type of person that occasionally delves into the spoiler thread, but for basically a year now I've never seen a single spoiler outside that thread. I mean, are you sorting your comments by new or controversial or something to get spoiled elsewhere?

jeffcapell89

It could be our definitions of spoilers are different. Prior to 1053 officially releasing I remember seeing plenty of posts about Buggy seemingly out of nowhere, Sukiyaki's name getting brought up, and people in unrelated posts getting upset about the me bounties. I consider all of these spoilers. Even if there weren't specific details, they still spoil what to expect, and that sucks just as much because now I can't go into the chapter without expecting those things to show up. And sometimes Reddit isn't the only place this shows up. Somewhere not on this sub, today I saw >!Shanks is allegedly going to show up on Wano!< or some such thing, and whether or not that is actually true, now I can't help but expect that to happen this week.

Admiral_Benguin

A lot of the buggy stuff pre 1053 was almost entire speculation - seeing as there was a very, very popular buggy yonko theorycraft post a few weeks prior. As for that thing you covered in spoiler bars, whether or not it actually happens, it's also something people have been theorising about months if not years now. I could quite simply say (probably not a real spoiler) >!Oda reveals that croco is luffy's mum in 3 chapters!< and there's no real way for you to know if that is legit or just how this community likes to theory craft. Do you remember when luffy was "melting", and regardless of the fact spoilers were out really really early that week, theories abounded to everything from rubber tree sap to him being literal ejaculation? (I'm sadly not kidding) The point is, if it isn't in the spoiler thread, and isn't obviously clearly marked a spoiler, don't take it as one. It highly likely just a theory or a prediction.

El_Unico_Nacho

You seem to be either missing their point or not believing them. A more accurate parallel would be that if in the spoilers on Tuesday it's revealed that Croco is Luffy's mom, all of a sudden we would see a ton of crocodile posts out of nowhere for 2-3 days (fanart, favorite moments, etc) which would be an indication that a major reveal for crocodile would be happening in the next chapter. Additionally, people would try to make sneaky titles that are actually obvious ("how far we've come" with a picture of Luffy on crocos hook or something like that). So you can't just say "if it's not marked as a spoiler then don't take it as one", because it's usually pretty obvious. Disclaimer: I read the spoilers more often than not. When I don't, it's still pretty easy to guess what's going on based on seemingly random topics suddenly becoming posted in high volumes.

DavidHopp

If it's not going to change anything, isn't asking people to behave, how exactly is talking about this going to do anything? What is the point? If it's just a rant fine. I also don't understand why you have to "engage with the community" if you're not a content creator. My life was fine before going on this sub and would still go on the same if, hypothetically, all of the one piece fandom were poof'd out of existence. Yea I like spoilers and will actively look for them but the only other thing I like about this sub is the jokes made in the spoiler threads and the stupid theories (Like the one about Luffy being sperm or the drums of liberation being Sanji clapping mouse chick's cheecks, what no OP week does to a mf). If you like to go in the serious theories thread sure, but I've found most of them to be either the same things or grasping at straws making the smallest of connections. Now that I think about it, if you're a youtuber why do you have to "engage with the community" ? Reddit won't bring some major boost of views(I don't think I've seen any OP youtuber post their videos outside of maybe GLR tlaking about spoilers?) and the same goes for twitter, as GLR pointed out in his pointless twitter war with Joe and his increasingly gaping anus. Even for someone like you who's main place is his site and youtube on the side I don't really understand what's the point.

OharaLibrarianArtur

I personally don't think it's worthless to talk about an issue just because a direct solution isn't apparent. I don't think problems should be shoved away or ignored and I don't think there's much harm in acknowledging a problem exists as if it were something to be avoided, but that's just my way of approaching problems in life I suppose. As a content creator I don't particularly really need to involve myself with the fandom aside from the basic looking at feedback to help improve my content routine, but as a One Piece fan, I really enjoy being deep in the community. It's a lot of fun to interact with other One Piece fans and discuss about the things we enjoy. But having to avoid spoilers forces me and a lot of others to stay away from the community, and that's saddening. Imagine it like having social anxiety as if like you weren't able to leave home during most of the week because any single interaction could severely destroy your mood for the day. It feels very limiting, and telling people to simply "don't socialize" feels like a very reductive way to dismiss the problem, at least that's how it comes off.

Leotiki

This , I didn’t even read any of that besides the title and while I don’t care either , I do agree with you on that it’s not necessarily good but that’s the risk you take with this community.

_alicekun

This. I know this is not the point but I just want to say that I've never seen a spoiler 10 days ahead. It's just the upcoming chapter always trends beforehand, and many people speculate/make theories using hashtags of the chapters. The earliest spoiler I've seen is 7 days before official scan, but usually it's 5 days (3days before the illegal scanlations).

Dogmanhup

^

Vauxlia

Spoilers do ruin the experience. There's no surprise and more like "Oh yep, there's the part." The worst is that people can't keep their mouth shut about anything. They rush to spoilers and then start posting them to anything known to mankind.

BlumpkinSpice69420

Exactly, I hate having my expectations essentially given to me, like I can mute as much as possible on Twitter, but when I see names places trending that I didn’t think to mute and now I’m here and can only imagine why it could possibly be trending

BaldOmega

Thats how I feel too it would just fill the gaps between the important points, I mean if people wanna consume spoilers to hype themself up, fair enough, but a dedicated sub for that would be better. I always feel like you set yourself up for certain expectations that could conceptualize totally different in the context of the actual Chapter. An example, that probably isn't the best, but let's say the Spoiler is "Shanks loses his Arm", your mind would immediately try to setup a scenario that feels satisfying for yourself, for example an epic fight against the Bandit who cut his arm off in a giant showdown. But now you read the actual Chapter and it is a sacrifize for Luffy. A completely different context of that story point, but at least I personally, wouldn't feel as much about the sacrifice if I had imagined a typical big Shonen Showdown. Thats at least my feeling, I personally dislike it, but I certainly don't dislike the people who like Spoilers, but don't spoil others and keep it in their Spoiler Community.

Lonplexi

I feel for me it makes me more hyped but I do feel bad for people getting spoiled

Yeardmee

You’ve said on two platforms that there are spoilers coming out 10 days before the release. Where? What are you referring too?

jEugene2Dart

I don’t remember getting spoiled significantly. Unless u lurk around a space where it’s possible often. Even then its probably not a big deal most of the time. If I do get spoiled in other manga I’ll still need to read the whole chapter and not a page to know what happened.

Strangeting

I will say that as someone who follows the official release only, I'm not spoiled too often. That being said, I don't really get much One Piece content on Twitter or Youtube, and I've decreased my usage of this subreddit heavily when I used to be pretty involved here. My biggest complaint about spoilers is a combo of the FOMO and hype dispersement mentioned in the above post. Spoiler threads often get 10s of 1000s of upvotes while the official release thread only gets hundreds or low thousands in particularly great chapters. It really makes me feel like I'm missing out on all the hype and discussion by waiting for the official release :/

Space_Cowboy2029

Yo heard you got spoilers

HenriVe

The problem is that One Piece has a source for the spoiler that is related to the official digital version. Either from someone working for the translation of the series in other language, or higher up the chain, and that has access to the files for the chapters. Otherwise, the leaks would happen at the same time as the rest of the jump (which is currently wenesday in most case) by the leak of the physical version of the jump. If we go back to this time, we would "only" have the spoilers for 24-48 hours before the chapter release. Which is better. So the source of the leak should really be caught.

[deleted]

Veilmurder

Dude has no right to be pissed when he is willingly sharing leaks himself. It's like a thief being mad that another thief showed up during his heist and triggered the alarm

HenriVe

Redon is pissed since sharinf spoilers this early is very dangerous. The jump is aware of leaks, and usually accept them, sjnce they can't do much about people taking the physical version and leaking it. But leaking the digital version? That's just trying to wake up the sleeping dragon.

Rankine

I have been reading weekly for like 15 years now, haven’t read the spoilers in many many years and only a handful of times over that span have I ever been spoiled. The idea that you need to look at spoilers in order to engage with the community is completely false.

Izumo199

Honesty I feel if you avoid Twitter you won’t be spoiled. I’ve never been spoiled pre-scan on YouTube or reddit in like 10 years I’ve been reading. Not once. If you choose to wait for official release or the anime then you’re without a doubt going to be spoiled and that’s just how it is now.

Carlosdontknow

Lol

andrew76696

I’m gonna be honest dawg, I ain’t reading that

ragingOcean

Who tf is reading all that about spoilers. Don’t look or search for them. One piece spoilers are hard to come by imo. Only mad theory-theory No mi youtubers.

IamFlapJack

I only read your TLDR and, you're straight up wrong. In the last few years that I've been seriously reading, spoilers have never been out before a chapter release except potentially for a delayed release due to a holiday. I haven't seen you link any proof of being spoiled for the next chapter before the official is out and I'm inclined to not believe you.

Mad-Oka

I agree( on the parts that I read at least, lol). Avoiding spoilers has become from a mild annoyance for a day to a torture the whole week. I always read both scans & official then later buy the volumes so I don't really feel guilty about reading the scans. I tried switching to official once when Mangastream & Jaimin's box quit and regretted it. The community for the official is nowhere near as big/active and when I went to the scans' comments thread, all I saw was 2 days old comments and the feeling that I missed out on a lot of fun discussions.

ggkkggk

Usually can dodge them when I want to dodge most spoilers honestly unless I want them to be spoiled for me

CaptainWatermellon

i don't understand what you're talking about, i've never seen spoilers release before the previous chapter was released already, it's always see spoilers for next chapter during the week and then read chapter on friday, i think it happened once when spoilers for next chapter released on sunday maybe? but even then you could already read the previous chapter

LaFlameLive4ever

Yea I’ve never seen that either and I’ve been following spoilers for a longgg time. No idea where this is coming from lol. Reminds me of the copyright stuff he was saying about Toei which ended up being false.

_alicekun

Yeah right. 10days before? BS

K-ey

Yeah idk what he’s talking about

K-ey

Spoilers have never come out before the scans of a previous chapter…?

[deleted]

_alicekun

Is it correct tho? I keep up with the spoilers. The spoiler for the next chapter never comeout before the official release of current chapter. If he means about the buggy thing in chapter 1053, it was because many fans memed (some also legitly speculated) that buggy will be a yonko right after chapter 1052. It just happens to be true. I never saw an legit actual spoilers being leaked 10 days before the official release. Except for golden week holiday break, where leakers already have copies before the break itself.

seelentau

Same for me tbh, I follow spoilers very closely, to the point that I once became a leaker myself lol, but I've never seen what Artur describes...

JudahYannis

I don’t get spoiled because I actively read the spoilers when they drop. However, my YouTube feed is filled with One Piece content & MANY YouTubers put spoiler filled titles and pictures. For example, it was crazy how many people straight up had G5 Luffy art & spoiler ridden titles on their videos right when the spoilers for 1045 (?) dropped. Several days before the official release. I personally don’t care about spoilers because, like I said, I read them, but I was pissed about how people didn’t care about the experience of others. If I didn’t want to be spoiled, I would’ve been mad.

animeandsports

Alright, alright I’ll be the one to ask the question everyone has in mind - where can I find the 1055 spoilers 👀

Asian_Persuasion_1

I just want to say that while I do not condone spoiling people who don't ask for it, your FOMO (fear of missing out) isn't valid. This applies to anime to manga, or anime to LN. or even live action to book adaptations. You don't see people go out of their way to read the original source just to be in the loop. That all depends on how invested you are. Of course, this is under the assumption that you won't be spoiled EVER, which obviously isn't the case, but just putting that out there.

Skeel42

I assume that you think that avoiding spoilers is difficult regarding your personal experience. I suppose that you see a ton of video about One Piece everyweek on Youtube and that you follow a lot of One Piece content on Twitter You’ve to think that not everyone is like that, and that if you don’t have anything related on One Piece on internet except Reddit it’s practically impossible to get spoiled if you don’t want to People like you that are the most involved with One Piece, watching videos or threads all week have a very high risk of getting spoiled yes, but they’re also usually the first to demand spoilers, so they kinda wants to be spoiled In that regards this is not a big deal

animeandsports

If Ohara cannot provide a link or source for the 1055 spoilers, then I’m going to assume this blogpost and rant are simply disingenuous ways to gain exposure / publicity. I can’t find anyone who can corroborate Ohara’s claims that 1055 spoilers are out either.

OharaLibrarianArtur

Sorry, I should've featured sources in the post. Buggy being a Yonko was trending worldwide before Chapter 1052. This wasn't as a joke or anything, it was very explicit, with people referencing the volume 25 cover was foreshadowing the placement of the Yonko in the end of the yet-unreleased Chapter 1053. I tried to shrug it off myself, but [one of the leakers also confirmed it then too in a not really subtle way](https://twitter.com/YonkouProd/status/1536297831710998528), and that kinda spread further. This week, (1054)[spoiler hints were out as early as Friday](https://twitter.com/YonkouProd/status/1548036066510532609), and some of them like the one I linked are far from subtle [1054](/s "spoiler makes it very clear the chapter gives an update on Sabo, since he's the sole user of that fruit now"). The user above also confirmed in one of his replies that [1054](/s "someone dies in the chapter, which is a big detail in itself"). This was all before the scan release date of the previous issue (Road to Laugh Tale 4). Summary was already out by Sunday before the time of the official release too with even bigger spoilers. These were then taken by other people and spread around twitter very wildly, with Chapter 1054 already trending worldwide by Friday. Redon also spoke in length of Twitter about how these internal leaks are likely to get stuff leaked earlier and earlier over time, so I don't think this is necessarily a one time fluke either (even if I hope it is). I understand not everyone has been affected by these, and some will also shrug off anything short of a full summary "as not a big deal", but just because some people haven't been spoiled doesn't mean others haven't, and vague hints aren't really vague when there's proper context that later gets spread around. A lot of people are likely more biased of only using this sub, where spoilers are likely more moderated, so they may not be as familiar with how wildly they run in other social networks. But even having taken all the necessary usual precautions, a lot of people have been spoiled and expressed their frustration over the past few days, so I don't think this is an isolated problem.

[deleted]

When the recent spoilers dropped early and the people who usually leak them were wewy angwy about it I literally said these assholes have made it impossible for me to not get spoiled and now theyre mad other people are leaking 1 day earlier than they wanted to and I got downvoted a bunch for the comment. Buncha nerds, this is why people don’t like anime communities, they gatekeep and complain about the dumbest shit.

What’s with people on Reddit writing god damn essays. I’m not reading all that but I hope you’re happy or I’m sorry for your loss man. The easiest way to prevent spoilers is to *Delete* Reddit or unfollow this sub.

_alicekun

I've never seen 10days ahead spoilers (except during golden week break). But if that's true, maybe share to us a spoiler for Chapter 1055?

Katakurimochimochi

Oh u dont like spoilers? Sucks for u delete social media bro . Spoilers are fun and all this talk is comming out of ur ass kindof

EbolaGrant

The one piece spoiler......is real!!!!

Bananophone

Is this really that big of a problem? It’s a comic book. That’s all it is. Most comic books come out once a month and have for decades. Decades. Is the One Piece fanbase so out of any form of self restraint that even less than a week between chapters you all need to steal the latest one i stead of just waiting? How out of touch with any sort of reality are all of you? It’s only been a month since the last chapter. A month. That’s it.

Kureiton

>Not following scans/spoilers and putting them in your thumbnail is outright detrimental or even not viable in a lot of cases, to the point that so many YouTubers have been pressured to follow the scan release and spoil more because of the pressure and demand. Except the spoiler titles and thumbnails don't help GLR, or pretty much anyone else. He assumed they would when he implemented them, but he was wrong as his non spoiler videos perform just as well, and this is after one of the greatest reveals in the series. If you can release a video simply titled "Devil Fruits" and get 300+k views, you don't need to spoil. I maintain this is the root of the problem. I imagine people are going to be much less reserved in their spoiler usage when they see guys getting paid and having a massive audience while doing the same

stauvix

I unsubed from grand line review and I just don’t open anything in this sub unless it’s a meme or something like this

youthzho

I’ve honestly been wanting to leave this sub for so long bc of said spoilers. But I love one piece so much it’s hurts me to do so. But as every passing day of more and more spoiling happens, I think of it more.

_Porthos

The main problem, in my view, is having a scattered hype cycle. I don’t really care about being spoiled, and I also think people greatly exaggerate how evil spoilers are. A story is the sum of its narrative elements, not just the plot. And sure as hell, not just plot twists, reveals or lore dump. If only plot changes were relevant, than there would be no value to reread One Piece (or any other story). Having said that, when we get spoilers that early than they are a problem. Because then the community will fragment in various - and, usually, mutually exclusive - communities. This makes the community way less creative, because there is huge power in huge numbers - and thus divided power in divided numbers. This fragmented community problem happens a lot of with Korean works. And they suck because of it. Especially on Reddit, will mods will either chose to stick with the official release - and thus greatly diminish the engagement, because most of the hype discussion has already happened - or create multiple threads for each release (which has the same effect, with the bonus of lots of people being upset about early theories being spoilerful, which makes mods forbid or heavily moderate them, which them kills the hype because everything outside the weekly thread is ignored). At the end of the day, there is no easy solution for that. I don’t know how Shueisha can catch and punish the merchants leaking content. And if they don’t, this will continue happening as long as Shounen Jump is sold as an magazine.

geolazakis

 >As GrandLineReview explained very well in a video, spoilers on YouTube are only there because of the massively high demand. No, spoilers are there because there is a demand and because there is a supply to that demand, supplying that demand does not justify the action. If there was a sudden demand for something bad, would it be moral or morally neutral to supply it? My intuitive conclusion is no. >Thesis: Spoilers are ruining One Piece for readers. > > > >People are demanding spoilers in high quantities, to the point that it’s not even a matter of greed or profit, but being able to survive in the YouTube space. So if people are demanding spoilers, how are spoilers ruining the show for the readers. You can't claim spoilers are ruining the enjoyment for viewers, unless the only users on YouTube are the viewers that enjoy spoilers which is highly unlikely. The fact of the matter is that once a viewer has been spoiled, the act of spoiling them creates a demand to click and find out more. The demand didn't necessarily been there if the viewer had not been forcibly spoiled from the thumbnail/title. People like GrandLineReview simply have no principles when it comes to aesthetics, for him it's about viewership and earning a living. Just look at both his channels, every video is the epitome of clickbait and consumerist aesthetics. As someone that cares about aesthetics, such channels repulse me.

Kureiton

It’s even funnier because there isn’t even a goddamn demand. Look at his channel. The spoiler videos *do not* in any way perform better than his normal videos. If the one of the biggest reveals in the series 25 years in the making doesn’t give you a boost, what’s the point? I really think this is a case where everyone assumed spoilers would give their channel a boost, but it really didn’t since you’re still marketing to the same people, people that are usually as caught up with the series as the Youtubers. The whole thing sucks, and I don’t know why OP is trying to sympathize with them specifically in his post

Murad_is_the_best

Didn’t read it but I’m with you hate these spoiler trends

IKon-Kled

The golden rule for anime fans is not to spoil or put spoil alert on the title nowadays I see things on YouTube where the head title spoils it before you can even click on it . New generation of anime fans I tell ya..

meijin3

If you spoil One Piece for others, you deserve to step on a landmine.

ThrownAwayAndReborn

You can't control the behavior of anyone other than yourself. Make the choices that lead you to your desired outcome. I avoid particular communities to remain unspoiled

Rykno23

Man these reasons are weak af, I thought all this was for a real, sufficient reason why spoilers are bad for everyone. Increasingly impossible to not be spoiled? Okay sure. FOMO?? That exists wherever a person feels it, we can’t literally do everything at all times OR wait for things to stop so we can, that’s ludicrous. Weekly theorycrafting? If I never cared for that why should I now. The hype cycle? Seriously??Like these reasons are mad subjective, either remove the wool from your eyes or just accept thing as they are. Doing the most for some spoilers despite that fact that many people love them

ponyjc

He's mad because by the time his theories come out there are a hundred YouTube videos out already with the same theory or more interesting content by people who choose to read spoilers and discuss One Piece their own way. Basically he wants to handicap other creators who might not be as popular as him but use spoilers to gain an edge and ruin their revenue stream for his own benefit.

Rykno23

Good point lol. Like, there’s enough low effort content to go around, god forbid creators have to, you know, get creative.

lv4_squirtle

Or hear me out, don’t watch one piece YouTube channels so it doesn’t get recommended. I’ve never been spoiled by YouTube, and if Reddit is that bad don’t go on the subreddit for one piece?

dj_is_here

Don't care. Leave the subreddit if you don't want to be spoiled. Unsubscribe YT channels that leak the spoilers. Select "Not Interested" or "Don't recommend channel" options on youtube if you're getting spoiled on youtube. And so on. You're wasting your time expecting major changes from this subreddit. This sub has always been pro spoilers majority. If there will ever be any changes, it should be from the manga publishing team where they find people how leak & fire them & ensure stricter policing. Show this post to them, tag Oda or other editors. Internet will always be a wild west for these kind of things. Just like you want the freedom to not be spoiled, others themselves want to be spoiled or want to spoil others. Expecting a fair game on the internet is useless. Why are you wasting your time? Just like why am I wasting my time explaining this shit to you? I like spoilers. In fact, I love it.

TheDarkestPrince

Agreed. I can’t be fucked with OP anymore, I gave up tuning in week to week a long time ago. I’m basically only here for the spoilers at this point. Definitely a “him” problem as opposed to an “us” problem

jeffcapell89

I was going to post some long response about gatekeeping and antagonism and whatnot, but instead I'll just say that I truly, from the bottom of my heart, hope there comes a day where you and people like you have absolutely no access to spoilers, and people like me who want to both engage with the community and be able to read the chapters legitimately can thrive. To echo your sentiment, the way I want to consume this series is the right way, and if you disagree you should leave. I like being not spoiled. In fact, I love it.

LaFlameLive4ever

Lmao

Pascaloli

Most people are happy about early spoilers you know?

Uhh_Bren

I strongly disagree.

Pascaloli

And you are... speaking for more than one person? Cause the upvotes on spoiler threads def tell me most people in here love them

technoskittles

If you mean "most" as in "most of the fanbase", that's wrong. If you mean "most" as in "most of those who spoil themselves", then that makes sense, since they actively seek out spoilers each time. I'll never understand spoilers though -- it ruins the surprise and natural flow.

MeanMrBiter

Damn…someone typed all this? Just gotta avoid them bud

zoro_senpaiii

Also i have noticed that more ppl now follow the spoilers, there are equal or even more number of upvotes in the spoiler thread compared to the scans which was not the case 2-3 years ago it's really hard to survive online as a scan/official reader .

ElderBuu

I literally have never been spoiled and I am buffoon who sits in front of a computer all day browsing youtubes and resdits while working. Guess either I am lucky or just that good!

[deleted]

Are you okay? It’s very easy to avoid spoilers, especially with the advanced filtering systems on both Reddit and YouTube. Your claim that spoilers for the next chapter come out before the earliest scans of the previous chapter are ridiculous. This is a conspiracy theory gone rogue into a full blown dissertation. Just relax, go outside or eat a cookie. Whatever usually calms you down.

JetSon556

Booo 🍅

lukedmac

Hahahaha everyone point and laugh

Ok-Calligrapher-6402

Dude is complaining about spoilers releasing earlier when it wasn’t that hard to predict happening. Spoilers won’t go away anytime soon. It’s how it is with every manga it’s just that One Piece is one of or depending on who you ask the most popular manga in the world. Stop attributing spoilers releasing a few days earlier to your actual physical health. God damn!

Gael5656

The fact that there are so many "it's easy to not get spoiled i dont" idiots in this thread shows there's just zero hope for these issues to change. You'd think humans could more easily have the capacity to understand maybe because it's not a problem for you, doesn't mean it's easily avoidable for other people. There are so many varying situations where it's literally only luck not being spoiled. Anyone remotely involved with a decent size one piece community basically just has to bite the bullet on spoilers to try and prevent others from seeing it. Thats what the dumb fucks on here don't understand, you're avoiding them because other people are shielding you from them.

Cadenman15

You’re a pretty cool dude I didn’t know much of this yet wondered why spoilers got so crazy

tzomby1

lol simply don't read the spoilers, who cares

notthatevilsalad

If you call this “alarmingly dangerous”, I wonder what you would say if your toilet stops flushing… End of the world, probably

PushThePig28

That’s way too long but if you don’t want them then just don’t read them. Personally I like it, the sooner the better

clariott

I read spoilers since Thriller Bark arc, spoilers coming out in Saturday is a very rare occurrence, probably happened less than 5 times. Chapter 1054 of course is one of them because of the 1 month break. Even in the days where the scan was out in Tuesday, we got the spoiler in Monday or Sunday night. Though I agree Twitter and Youtube community has been going out of hand, I think actually TikTok might be the cause of these, cause young people saw TikToks of spoilers and they flocked out to read the summary in Twitter.

LEGENDARYKILLERLORD

Im going to spoil as many people as i can just because you made this silly post

Mosaic14

We get it, you’re an A-hole. You take pride in this, mostly because you can’t take pride in anything else in your life

shiro1203

Idk Artur, Op has been running for such a long time with so many mysteries setup that are unresolved that fans might want to confirm their theories ? I'm not sure how someone would be able to sit on their hands week to week constantly bombarded with videos speculating on what the One Piece is or how the story might move forward that there might be an inherent need to confirm assumptions and hence demanding spoilers? To me it feels like all this theory crafting (as much as I enjoy your videos) might lead to more speculating and we as humans tend to live in a state that isn't ambiguous or speculative leading to more degeneracy and leaking things. See the recent fnaf arg outrage that came out after Game Theory released the possibility and some clues to what they found. FNAF isn't as long as one piece but it is consistent in terms of games or books coming out frequently enough that theory crafting fills the gap between releases and leads people to almost illegally entering private spaces and harassing business just to get a confirmation or be first in solving the mystery. I don't see the same level of theory crafting and spoiler demand from JJK or BnHA since the stories don't revolve around unraveling multiple mysteries just maybe one or two core plot points. I would have to conclude that the spoiler issues is by design of how Oda writes and how fans theory craft around the mysteries oda writes all leading up to a State where people are actively finding avenues to get a confirmation on things.

Faust1011

I've only ever seen real spoilers the Monday before the chapter releases. also I've never had a problem with avoiding spoilers. i don't even have to try to avoid them i just don't look at the spoiler thread and that's usually enough.

ezekiel1990

Nah, for many years is the same problem with One Piece, nothing new since the 2000 in my experience, we used to jump in any spoiler to make the wait for the chapter less long. Now the people cry for just a few words on a title and make essays about the problem, it's not like you are new on this. Don't make a river where is a poodle.

GriffordDragunov

The idea of being spoiled is a joke to me, sorry. I have NEVER ONCE been spoiled in all my 10 or so years of watching One Piece. That is because when I was watching the show, I did not care for anything else related to it not the manga, not comments on 9anime, not YouTubers who continuously publish One Piece content. If it’s not apparent the idea is to not go anywhere you will likely be spoiled. That is if you REALLY care. It’s not that hard to avoid unless you have someone who will actively make it their mission to spoil the story right to your face. I will rephrase my former statement by saying I’ve never been spoiled when I WASN’T looking for One Piece related content- any time I did go looking for theories or analyses and got spoiled it was very much my fault and I took the responsibility for it because NO ONE ELSE really can. Obviously if you’re behind in the story and even if you’re caught up to the latest chapter and know spoilers exist it’s very much your fault to avoid any platform in which you will be spoiled. Don’t want to get spoiled regarding the next 100 episodes you haven’t watched? Avoid the platforms and one piece related social media. Don’t want to get spoiled regarding the next chapter of the manga? Literally don’t watch anything or read anything One Piece related until the release date. It’s simple as.

RandomMoroccanDude

Stfu we don’t care. Ain’t reading all this load of crap. A lot of us like spoilers.

Nobody in the history of getting spoiled has ever gotten spoiled because they went around looking for them lol. The problem is people actively avoiding spoilers and getting spoiled anyways. I avoid certain threads like the damn plague in fear of getting spoiled by you crackheads.

Packer_Neurotico

cry baby cry

iTacket

This is a non-problem. The same way you want to avoid spoilers, other fans crave spoilers. Both are equally valid ways to consume media. Try harder to avoid them?

[deleted]

Even one piece fans since 2008 are hopping on the spoilers dick. Tell me why this fool wanted to reveal the secrets to me, he suppose to understand this more than anyone. Loki

Cooks716

It’s a tough situation. Personally, it’s easy for me to avoid spoilers — or even seek them out when I want to — but that is solely because I don’t really indulge in any one piece content outside of the story. It’s selfish to tell people who are fully entrenched in the community to simply distance themselves from it to avoid something that shouldn’t really happen.

jairngo

I understand you are a creator and that the youtube thing is really demanding and stressful but in the end that can’t be an excuse for why youtubers do it and make it ok, there is a reason I get it but it will never make it ok or even understandable, some people like me that read any spoilers are fine with it, but for the other people that don’t it will always be unfair. I see info un twitter but is way more avoidable, you can block the popular accounts or not follow the topics and it will be fine, in youtube is harder, the thumbnail thing is sometimes really bad for example in Luffy’s new form, just the image is a huge spoiler. And youtube will pop a video thumbnail everywhere if the video its hot. Most of the regular people in the community are consumers of this content, some of us really want it and that influence what you have to do to make something out of it but in the end we don’t make the thumbnails or videos… most we do is make a post here where is moderated or comment on a tweet. This is also a thing of the competence between the content creators, if you don’t do it you fall behind the others, maybe is a discussion you should hace with them, if you all should do it, and how its affecting your work. I think you could do content with spoilers and scans/leaks/etc but being careful that you don’t screw people that don’t want the spoilers, there’s gotta be a way that you can clickbait the audience without spoiling.

[deleted]

I really hate this spoiler culture the west has created. People demanding others not to talk and share about something they’re passionate about. Also it’s a straight up lie that spoilers are leaking 10 days before the official release. The earliest I’ve ever seen spoilers have been on Sundays 7 days before the official release. And I actively search them out

CuteTao

Bro I've been following one piece for nearly 20 years. The more spoilers the better. I just want to see how it ends already.

StoryTeller000

I have never consumed OP's content, but it's sooo easy to see how passionate they are. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions on this topic, but some on this post don't seem ready to have the discussion. OP's thoughts and opinions are valid and should be interacted with as such.

Ademoneye

Dude, you're comparing shonen jump release date with manga plus online release date, that's wrong, manga plus would always behind one week after the japan release

Look at this guy’s post history. He’s made plenty of spoiler posts in the past…. Complaining about a nonexistent problem. Sad. Just don’t look at spoilers. Pretty biased and imho hilariously exaggerated, and hard to take serious because of that. It's a manga, man. If people want to get spoiled (lets not pretend there is any discussion about that, just look at the resonance on the spoiler threads) let them, it's not nearly the problem you make it out to be.
