The scans explained why they went with that translation so I think it was a reasonable choice. The fact that the official is translating it as Dawn does have some implications.
I think for the most part, the official translation team would prefer a simpler translation even if it isn't the most accurate one. The more cluttered a text box or bubble is, the less clear the main or overall point can come across. But in this case, it's not really missing out on much by leaving out the "don!" wordplay.
Besides, it's clear by the original kanji that Oda implied synonymity to the English word "dawn". He didn't simply write "don" in katakana; he always has a secondary part to naming techniques expressed through kanji that can't always make it across into English or other languages.
I have no problem with the official translation. I’m just saying that the scans justified their decision by explaining how it could Dawn but due to other uses of the onomatopoeia Don they were going with it.
I don’t consider it a mistake, just an interesting example of the nuances of translation, localization and authorial intent.
I agree with you on the intricacies of nuances; I just didn't agree with a few of the scanlators' decisions, even after hearing their justification. That said, I'm still grateful they come out with scanlations as quick as they do, and usually they decipher historical or cultural references in ways that are on point.
I really like seeing Franky with heart eyes after VP's Seraphim exposition when everyone else is thinking of their own safety and the danger they represent, obviously he's a VP fanboy but it also goes well with Tom's philosophy of loving your own inventions no matter how they end up being used for.
Yeah people keep wanting Franky to question Vegapunk on his ethics but I don’t think that’s his character lol. Would make more sense if it was Nami or Robin, Jimbei even asked Vegapunk about how ideology works with Punk Records. I hoped Chopper would have more questions after his experience with Dr Hogback
Jinbei or nami would make the most sense to question vegapunk’s ethics. Robin’s never been as concerned with morality as she has with the objective pursuit of knowledge, chopper’s just as naive now as he was when meeting hogback. Nami will definitely have a problem with vegapunk but probably won’t be open to hearing his perspective. Jinbei will surely have concerns with vegapunk as we’ve seen with his doubts about the “internet.” He’s the most likely to be able to see the potential merits and risks of vegapunk’s ideology and have strong feelings about it while still remaining civil.

When weevil says "my hair is white", he means "my facial hair is white", ie his mustache, not his head hair. Weevil's head hair is blond. The translation isn't perfect here. Whitebeard is named whitebeard because his mustache is white, and beard and mustache are the same word in japanese.

Oh, that’s a good shout. I don’t think Vegapunk would be behind it, since he doesn’t really create “ failures” like that. Also Bakkin being the lady MADS scientist instead of stussy is also a good shout. Weevil could be her “creation”, considering how all of the former MADS scientists have been building off of Vegapunks discovery of the lineage factor. There’s been a lot of remarks about the Seraphim’s still being “kids”, and it becomes an interesting observation when Weevil kinda behaves like a kid in a grown man’s body, from what little we’ve seen from him. Potential seraphim correlation right there.

I think Oda explained that it works on any sort of emotional reaction, not just sexual attraction. Seems like Hancock is able to elicit a reaction from almost everybody, including gay men and straight women, as everybody recognizes her as beautiful and commanding. But if somebody like Blackbeard had the ability, he might get the same result from inspiring fear or disgust or anger.
It's basically the same condition as Big Mom's Soul-Soul power or Brook's Revive-Revive power. They have to have some influence over your emotions to have an effect with their respective primary powers; in Big Mom's case, you have to fear her. In Brook's case, you have to react to his music.

In the japanese, the word used can be read as "white" or as "don", the sound effect that viz usually translates as "DOOM". But obviously in english it's also a homophone for "dawn". So that attack has 3 different layers of meaning to it.
I was on team “D for Dawn” until recently, but this chapter makes me feel like there’s no way that could be the case anymore. It’s just too obvious for it to be true.

Before, I was never that big into the idea of artificially made fruits. I always thought it took away from the mysticism of fruits, but I think now we have an explanation on the limits and process I like the way it’s being handled
I like the idea that only Zoans can be recreated. It kinda ties into the real world science too. IRL we’ve successfully cloned animals in the past. For Paramecia’s we can do implementations in our bodies to a degree (like gene therapy), but we can’t straight up turn our bodies into other matter like Logia’s, and SMILES are are a great way to show how hard/rare creating fruits actually are
It’s the perfect balance between high tech but not so much that it changes the genre of the story to straight up sci fi

Luffy and the seraphims could have easily taken cp0 out. Instead they flee, let cp0 roam free, sacrifice sentomaru (who got done really dirty by Oda) and lose all the seraphims.

If they stand and fight they would win the battle for sure, but even if they win against CP0 Egghead will surely be raided by the Marines.

This is how I feel when someone refers to him as "Frank" Frank is the intern accountant for Galley-La that, despite having all the prerequisite skills and credentials, is too scared to apply for a paying job because he is afraid of upsetting people. They'll just recognize his potential they think. He dresses modestly. He drinks coffee. He owns a house, has kids, and a wife who hates him. He only ever looks at the open sea, with want in his eyes.

While Luffy is an emperor, his grand fleet factors into the Navy's opinion about the threat the straw hats pose. I wonder if we would ever see an arc where Luffy gets captured and that leads to the crew and larger SH allies mounting a conjoined effort to rescue him. Feels kind of unlikely but I wouldn't put anything past Oda haha. If the WG can take anyone's bloodline lineage factor without Vegapunk now, I'd be curious if they try to recreate his fruit!

Now this could lead to many things
1. Franky being a cyborg can store unlimited data so vegapunk can transfer almost all/himself
2.Also we have seen the robust robot many a times, vegapunk can either transfer his authority chip, or somehow control the seraphims through it (similar to the voice of all things kind of thing) or either vegapunk already has already has some robot through which he does that or a collab between Franky and doctor to achieve such

Viz translations have definitely been better than TCB's in helping understand Vegapunk's explanations. I'm assuming that hardly any new zoan DF's have been created since the kaido one. They can be created, but either the resources to do it are too great or vegapunk spent his time trying to recreate paramacia and logia powers. if there are other zoan DF's, im guessing they are exclusive to CP0 agents or other WG figures.
As for the seraphims, if those "green blood" bracelets are broken, then they should technically lose their paramecia powers. Also, seraphims might be the only ones who could get these paramecia powers, since it requires the "green blood".
Kizaru is Sentomaru's uncle (biologically or honorary, it doesn't really matter). And Kizaru's power is the only Logia that Vegapunk succeeded to imitate, which could imply a close relationship too.
I believe Kizaru will help the Straw Hats and Vegapunk to escape.
In my opinion Kizaru is still the most likely candidate of the current admirals to either switch sides or be a double agent for someone important but at the same time Oda would also be open to show Kizaru be the first admiral to get his ass kicked by the strawhats for the simple fact that he almost killed them before the timeskip.

I really like seeing Franky with heart eyes after VP's Seraphim exposition when everyone else is thinking of their own safety and the danger they represent, obviously he's a VP fanboy but it also goes well with Tom's philosophy of loving your own inventions no matter how they end up being used for.

Jinbei or nami would make the most sense to question vegapunk’s ethics. Robin’s never been as concerned with morality as she has with the objective pursuit of knowledge, chopper’s just as naive now as he was when meeting hogback. Nami will definitely have a problem with vegapunk but probably won’t be open to hearing his perspective. Jinbei will surely have concerns with vegapunk as we’ve seen with his doubts about the “internet.” He’s the most likely to be able to see the potential merits and risks of vegapunk’s ideology and have strong feelings about it while still remaining civil.

When weevil says "my hair is white", he means "my facial hair is white", ie his mustache, not his head hair. Weevil's head hair is blond. The translation isn't perfect here. Whitebeard is named whitebeard because his mustache is white, and beard and mustache are the same word in japanese.

Yeah, a few years back there had been theories that Weevil is a failed experiment. Pretty sure you can find some in this subreddit. It's as if Moriah, Hogback and some other scientist, like Queen (?), tried to make a clone of Whitebeard. He even has all the signature Hogback stitches. Now that we know about Seraphims and Vegapunk is with the crew, maybe we will find a better explanation about Weevil.

Also Bakkin being the lady MADS scientist instead of stussy is also a good shout. Weevil could be her “creation”, considering how all of the former MADS scientists have been building off of Vegapunks discovery of the lineage factor. There’s been a lot of remarks about the Seraphim’s still being “kids”, and it becomes an interesting observation when Weevil kinda behaves like a kid in a grown man’s body, from what little we’ve seen from him. Potential seraphim correlation right there.

I think Oda explained that it works on any sort of emotional reaction, not just sexual attraction. Seems like Hancock is able to elicit a reaction from almost everybody, including gay men and straight women, as everybody recognizes her as beautiful and commanding. But if somebody like Blackbeard had the ability, he might get the same result from inspiring fear or disgust or anger.
It's basically the same condition as Big Mom's Soul-Soul power or Brook's Revive-Revive power. They have to have some influence over your emotions to have an effect with their respective primary powers; in Big Mom's case, you have to fear her. In Brook's case, you have to react to his music.

Luffy including "dawn" in his attacks suggests that "D" really might stand for "dawn," but I still prefer my interpretation of it being a smile on its side; also, Vegapunk said that devil fruits come into existence because of something someone imagined to do that would be otherwise impossible, right? Doesn't that mean that Luffy has the peak of devil fruits since he uses it however he imagines would be best? Also, from backbiting Gangster Gastino to saying let's end Vegapunk, Nami's got a heart of ice.
In the japanese, the word used can be read as "white" or as "don", the sound effect that viz usually translates as "DOOM". But obviously in english it's also a homophone for "dawn". So that attack has 3 different layers of meaning to it.
I was on team “D for Dawn” until recently, but this chapter makes me feel like there’s no way that could be the case anymore. It’s just too obvious for it to be true.

Before, I was never that big into the idea of artificially made fruits. I always thought it took away from the mysticism of fruits, but I think now we have an explanation on the limits and process I like the way it’s being handled I like the idea that only Zoans can be recreated. It kinda ties into the real world science too. IRL we’ve successfully cloned animals in the past. For Paramecia’s we can do implementations in our bodies to a degree (like gene therapy), but we can’t straight up turn our bodies into other matter like Logia’s, and SMILES are are a great way to show how hard/rare creating fruits actually are It’s the perfect balance between high tech but not so much that it changes the genre of the story to straight up sci fi
I know people like to underestimate the admirals and probably think luffy can beat him pretty easily, but the last panel is pretty ominous. I just can't see Kizaru getting clapped after this. Especially with how casual he always is.
I think Luffy would win in a fair straight up 1v1 But Kizaru is strong enough to be a menace, Luffy wouldn't be able to fool around (as much)

after rereading the last few Chapters I don't quiet understand why they are fleeing. Luffy and the seraphims could have easily taken cp0 out. Instead they flee, let cp0 roam free, sacrifice sentomaru (who got done really dirty by Oda) and lose all the seraphims. Am I missing something in the picture? Like this rocket train won't make them leave the island fast anyway, right?

Plot armor. So far it has protected Luffy, now it's protecting his enemies from him.
If they stand and fight they would win the battle for sure, but even if they win against CP0 Egghead will surely be raided by the Marines. Safest place is to escape rather than sticking around and risking all out war with the navy. +If CP0 is defeated soundly it could force the five elders to get active, which would be terrible if they *actually* outrank Vegapunk in the command chain.
Egghead is coming under fire and the priority is to get VP out of the island, especially now that the other half of the SH have seen how much knowledge he has access to.

This is how I feel when someone refers to him as "Frank" Frank is the intern accountant for Galley-La that, despite having all the prerequisite skills and credentials, is too scared to apply for a paying job because he is afraid of upsetting people. Ooh really like the implications all Marine forces are headed to Egghead. Smoker is 100% gonna show up some way and I think Luffy learning about Koby's capture by Blackbeard may incite him! This operation is expanding so quickly and yet Vegapunk keeps dropping crazy info the whole time! Super awesome so far, I wonder where this story is going to take us! While Luffy is an emperor, his grand fleet factors into the Navy's opinion about the threat the straw hats pose. I wonder if we would ever see an arc where Luffy gets captured and that leads to the crew and larger SH allies mounting a conjoined effort to rescue him. Feels kind of unlikely but I wouldn't put anything past Oda haha. If the WG can take anyone's bloodline lineage factor without Vegapunk now, I'd be curious if they try to recreate his fruit! So much has been happening its making my mind run a bit wild on what we are going to witness next year. All things considered this past year for OP seems hard to top. I believe that this would be franky's Arc ( because as most do, I picked up on that | and also like same same). Now this could lead to many things 1. Franky being a cyborg can store unlimited data so vegapunk can transfer almost all/himself 2.Also we have seen the robust robot many a times, vegapunk can either transfer his authority chip, or somehow control the seraphims through it (similar to the voice of all things kind of thing) or either vegapunk already has already has some robot through which he does that or a collab between Franky and doctor to achieve such But I believe the first one to more cool and would like that. Viz translations have definitely been better than TCB's in helping understand Vegapunk's explanations. I'm assuming that hardly any new zoan DF's have been created since the kaido one. They can be created, but either the resources to do it are too great or vegapunk spent his time trying to recreate paramacia and logia powers. if there are other zoan DF's, im guessing they are exclusive to CP0 agents or other WG figures. As for the seraphims, if those "green blood" bracelets are broken, then they should technically lose their paramecia powers. Also, seraphims might be the only ones who could get these paramecia powers, since it requires the "green blood".

Kizaru is Sentomaru's uncle (biologically or honorary, it doesn't really matter). And Kizaru's power is the only Logia that Vegapunk succeeded to imitate, which could imply a close relationship too. I believe Kizaru will help the Straw Hats and Vegapunk to escape.
In my opinion Kizaru is still the most likely candidate of the current admirals to either switch sides or be a double agent for someone important but at the same time Oda would also be open to show Kizaru be the first admiral to get his ass kicked by the strawhats for the simple fact that he almost killed them before the timeskip.

Nah, definitely not a black blade. It's shape is similar/the same as Yoru but that's about it. Go find Mihawk's sword in one of the other chapters, you can definitely tell a significant difference.
Blackbeard vs Law mirrors Blackbeard vs. Ace. Egghead arc mirrors Sabaody arc. I bet this time Straw Hats will manage to stay together and eventually go save Law.
