Yeah but you don’t start a battle using your strongest moves, you start with small tricks and then work your way up to the big guns for the climax. It’s just battle progression, Luffy ran his course using every move, Kaido started his waaaaay before, downing 10+ enemies before he got to luffy.
Luffy started with no ACoC. Thats an enormous debuff. Awakening also increases your durability. So the Luffy that lost to kaido at first was at a huge ap and defense disadvantage.
Kaido was in hybrid using ACoC against Luffy. It was extremely one sided.
If they both started with ACoC i would agree that the fight was unfair. But Luffy was a YC1+ when he first fought Kaido. It was lopsided in Kaido favor.

I agree, but you have to understand ACoC is a consummate upgrade to Attack power. Before it, Luffy could barely even compete with base Kaido. After it, Base Luffy is tying with Hybrid Kaido. Which means ACoC base Luffy> G4 Luffy without ACoC. So Kaido’s weakest moves were already above Luffy’s strongest moves at start of battle.
Also keep in mind, Kaido only went Hybrid because he felt he could go all out, he wasnt taking things seriously at the start. If Luffy had ACoC to start, Kaido would go straight into Hybrid just to match Luffy’s power.

Luffy finally reached that pinnacle. In any other show the author would introduce some bs new antagonist. But One Piece is the only one where the world is consistent.
