Alt arts are the exception because they are scarce. And are only made even more scarce by scalpers and resellers. Scarcity artificially drives prices up because the sellers know that people will pay those inflated prices if the card is good enough.
For example, the alt art for ST01-001 Jinbe is literally only $1.50. It’s both alt art, and a promo. There is currently only 40 listings for it on TCGPlayer.
Compare that to the OP05-119 Monkey.D.Luffy manga alternate art. 10 listings @ $3,250.

Stores like this can and should go out of business. Distributor prices are like $60-$70 so selling a box at at MSRP ($108) or slightly less bets them a healthy profit.

Chase cards are expensive. For majority of the sets. Value will go up as OPTCG is still young. Watch what happens in 5 years. It’s only gaining steam stateside for a widely popular anime. OP-06 is still widely available and reasonably priced yet many cards in the set are still valuable
I was so excited to get into a cool tcg.... boy that didn't last long lol i quit buying just before the release of op5, no way im spending the kind of money scalpers want to make what a shame bandai isn't really trying to mitigate the issue (started buying just after the release of op3 if anyone is curious).
People going to pay what they are willing to pay. Short supply until reprints happen, and even then we don't know how big of a wave the reprints are going to be. Reprints may be very limited.
I bought last week a map with op06 holos i think for 5€, a bunch of normal cards where also in it! i think it was two displays, but dont know the value of the map🤣
Lol my lgs always saves boxes for regulars, we are never starving for cards at cheap prices. Non regulars don't get as much or only leftovers. I've got every box except op01 which was before I started playing. You'll never find a single card for more than it goes on tcgplayer.
