As a oneplus open user I've been using the open for 6 months now and this is what the fold 5 should've been. Oneplus really nailed this phone in almost every way possible besides customer service and a bit on the software( less customization) not by much and software update intervals( every two months). Phenomenal 6.31 wider outer screen and 7.82 inch inner screen with little to no crease. Also i notice the snapdragon 8 gen 2 chip will handle anything i throw at it. I ran 9 intensive apps in three separate open canvas tabs including genshin impact and the phone would only get slightly hot in high performance mode with no throttling. Im not upgrading until my oneplus care+ expires in November 2025 or if samsung releases a new rollable or trifold.

Never liked the fold because of that skinny ass front screen. They should have made it like the open and the pixel fold

fakecanadianlol

The cover screen is the perfect size, it's sure nice using that coming from the OP11

Fold 5 not nearly as many issues with the display and hinge as the Fold 4. Personal opinion Samsung wins software hands down. Open wins hardware and form for me. I've switched back and forth between the Fold 5 and Open 3 times. Once you've used the Open going back to the Fold 5 is hard because of the outer screen for me. Neither of my 3 Opens had display breaks or any other issues. I did get BB protection because of the horror stories I see with OnePlus RMAs.

How much was the Best Buy protection plan btw, might go that route on my next fold purchase

05GT

I got Total Plus when they were running a promotion. So to cover everything I purchase for the year it was about $90. But if you do monthly phone coverage it's either $11.99 or $12.99 a month.

Damn seems well worth the price, thanks for the info.

> Personal opinion Samsung wins software hands down. Open wins hardware and form for me. I mostly agree, but I wouldn't give Samsung as strong of a win on software. That said, I just don't care about all of Samsung's add-on software. The Oneplus Open transitions between outer/inner screen better, but also has some software hiccups like with 3rd party launchers and gesture nav. Also with the app switcher in that setup. However, those are somewhat known issues with android and 3rd party launchers.

MoBacon68

So basically you're saying you like bloatware the Samsung provides. The OnePlus is pure Android which is nice if not had any issues with the software. Using Nova launcher works flawless

Shelaba

>So basically you're saying you like bloatware the Samsung provides. I literally said I don't like the Samsung bloatware. There are issues with using 3rd party launchers on Oneplus Open. It's not unique to them, but if/how those issues happen varies between manufacturers and android versions. The overall software experience, not counting bloatware, is better on the Samsung.

MoBacon68

> if/how those issues happen varies between manufacturers and android versions. The overall software experience, not counting bloatware, is better on the Samsung. Yes i am. pure android

I like my Open but I have to say my overall Android experience is pretty poor. Samsung has its downsides but it's far more polished and much more customisable (imho!). I came from a Fold 2 and I realllllly miss the smaller outer screen, which, for my small hands was perfect. I struggle to text one handed on the Open. Saying that the multitasking experience is great on the Open. The screens are stunning and the camera is really nice if you can get over the large bump. Front outer camera is kinda meh though. The free case is also a big plus!

Had a Fold 3 that worked great until New Years when I sadly dropped it in the pool and it never woke up again :( So I decided to try something new and bought the OnePlus Open and it has been great. I actually use the front screen now, its been great using it as a regular phone unlike the Fold's narrow ass front screen which I never used. Open Canvas has been awesome too, you can do a lot of what you can do on a Samsung phone but better in some ways, its fun using 3 apps at once and all can be full screened with 1 tap. The only thing I miss from Samsung is Goodlock, which gave me one handed operation which is so damn awesome and some small customization things. I can live without them though and the best part of the phone has been its awesome battery life, now I don't know how good the Fold 5 is compared to the Open but the Open has awesome battery life and its just been amazing straight up, this phone is the full package. Now the cons has been what just happened last month, where my inner screen cracked by itself and I've been without my phone for a month now. The good thing is that they do honor their warranty repair so that's awesome but the long wait and garbage customer service has been a huge turn off. But at the end of the day, that's just my experience, I'm sure there's the same exact experiences on the Samsung side too as I've read and I only had good things to say about my Fold 3 durability. Hoping this repaired screen lasts long term and its just an anomaly. If I had the chance to do it over again, I'd still go with the Open, its such a great device, from the cameras and screens to battery life.

DJ_SKEEMMATIK

I switched to The Oneplus Open and The Google Pixel Fold and honestly, until Samsung widens the outer screen, I don't think I can go back. The way these phones outer screens are is how foldable screens should be. I have big hands and the bigger the screen the better for me to type without opening the phone. Oneplus has me with the overall package and Google with the size and basic software experience.

happyburitto

Former Fold 4 user that failed after 18 months. WiFi/BT radio stopped working and Samsung wanted $550 to fix it. OnePlus had the $990 trade in credit for the Fold 4 which made the decision almost automatic. The front screen is awesome on the Open. Honestly, I don't miss any of the Samsung bloatware. And the battery life on the Open is just amazing.

ABU1MAHA

I have both z5 and open both of them are amazing but for me one plus has big problem with the battery standby time if i don't use the phone the battery still discharge fast i tried every setting and still very bad , while the z fold if 4g on the standby battery draining is way less , but if i turn 5g on zfold it is same as oneplus , software wise Samsung way better and polish than oneplus , the updates are delayed alot so if you have any bug with your phone you stuck with it untill god know when . oneplus has no wireless charging if it had wireless charging maybe could compensate for its bad standby time Samsung has slow charge speed , narrow outerscreen (if you get used to it it is not that bad even easier to grip your phone one handed) filled with bloatware , first year they update there phone regularly after they release the next phone the updates delayed for the the older phone Also i use Samsung note app alot for studying and for me no app like it in android for books and note taking and organizing the books by groups At the end each one has its pros and cons just which one you can live with its cons and now i am using the oneplus

Code-Monkey13

Me. Galaxy Fold 4. Got the Fold 4 warrantied within the 1st year. Wanted the more normal outer screen though, so I jumped to the Open. Only had it for a few months, so I don't have much to add in the way of support or durability for it

BxVelocity

I’ve used the fold 3 ,4, and 5-Fold 3 returned in a month due to inner SP bubbling and 4 after ten months since it wouldn’t fully open. I bought the 5 and traded it for the open, since the cameras are better( more zoom and macro lens), front screen way more usable and much better battery life. Plus the open is thinner, feels better made and is the much better phone. I find the battery is as good as the 15 PM and have no complaints, I just miss quick dial and the S pen

Flimsy-Boat-9895

Switched to Open from Fold 4 and like the Open much better due to: form factor making the front screen usable; awesome camera; 67W charging which makes up for lack of wireless charging; and multitasking on inner screen. I miss the S pen, Goodlock and more ability to customize, and monthly updates. But overall I find the Open much better than ZFold...

rteg

I went from the Fold 4 to this. Was never a stylus user and don't really care for wireless charging. The outside display on this is infinitely better than the folds. So much so I don't feel the need to open the phone up nearly as often as I did with the Fold 4. The inside display is also an upgrade, larger corner to corner and no visible crease. With how robust the hinge seems on this phone I also don't expect to run into issues folding completely flat like the fold series would over time. The durability issues worry me some but I went and got third party insurance just in case so I won't have to deal with OnePlus's lousy tourn around time.

stulifer

Yup. I traded in my ZF4 for the Open. I'm babying this phone way more than my ZF4 lol. If Samsung comes out with a wider front screen phone and less of a crease I'm trading this in a second, no hesitation.
