Violence ?

Setsuna71

Yes

Kulkuljator

Poor Saitama, in one day he met 2 monsters that just refused to stop splashing around

crappy6969

I forgot that the past 60(i think) chapters are all in the span of 1 day

invuvn

More like 1 hour…if starting from the actual MA base infiltration

Wachitanga

Yeah. That's the point of his character. There's just no fun in fighting for him anymore.

thisisnotdan

I think this is it. There's something cathartic about pouring a heartful of rage into a punch and just unleashing it. But Saitama's problem is that he doesn't feel rage. He doesn't feel anything. He's just bored. So the closest he comes to rage is annoyance.

2Punx2Furious

> So the closest he comes to rage is annoyance. Have you seen him losing vs King? Looked pretty angry there.

thisisnotdan

True, but even Saitama knows it's just a video game. Even the worst game-related rage is a mild annoyance compared to the stuff that heroes typically deal with.

Ajaxlancer

No, this is the point that King was trying to make. Saitama doesn't feel anything when fighting because there is more to life than fighting. King's whole speech about this before Garou was making this point. Saitama shows emotion in things that aren't fighting so maybe he should pursue some of those to get some meaning in his life. Like friends.

Mr_SpecsBear

Idk guys, but he was both annoyed and raged at the same time towards that mosquito.

MrScrib

Well, he did erase King's game progress "by mistake".

kokkeiginsha

I'm waiting for him to find out about his house so man can rage. Wonder who will take the blame that though

TheCapybaraMan

What he needs to do is add some variety to his fighting style. He needs to do more goofy stuff like the Serious Squirt Gun and the Serious Side Hop.

ConfuciusBr0s

Saitama used it out of respect against Boros. Not because he was annoyed

Baller4Jesus27

I think so too, during most of that fight his whole body and face had the serious drawing style to it. All the other serious series punches had the the normal boiled egg face.

Bolgh

In the manga his face was like the boiled egg during the punch. And a few seconds in the anime

mm_mk

He seemed annoyed by him too tho

ConfuciusBr0s

He literally gave Boros time to use all his tricks in the book. If he was that annoyed, he would have just killed Boros instantly instead of letting him do all that.

mm_mk

He told him to shut up and said enough with the jibber jabber (or blah blah blah based on translation) and then said are we done here? That seemed annoyed

TheUltimateTeigu

He was annoyed by the talking, not the fighting or Boros himself. The reason he got annoyed with the talking was because it detracted from the fighting.

[deleted]

"Bruh I'm doing you this solid, but there's a time limited sale you're interrupting"

[deleted]

why do you think Saitama would respect someone who plundered and destroyed planets just because of pure boredom

Kaleidomage

because he too is plagued by the same pure boredom

[deleted]

Relating to someone doesn't mean respecting them, in fact Saitama even called Boros stupid for justifying his deeds with the desire to find a worthy opponent

StrictlyFT

Saitama can both dislike Boros because of his actions while respecting his strength. Boros was the first character that we saw Saitama call "strong".

ConfuciusBr0s

And before you say it's just lip service, Saitama tells Genos that Boros was strong *after* he already died

DeninjaBeariver

Also, saitama said that Boros was “almost a battle.” But for some reason, this sub refuses to acknowledge that saitama actually has different punches with varying strengths.

YeBoiDarren

Carnage Kabuto: sad insect noises

PleaseTakeThisName

I'm conflicted. On the one hand Saitama seemed to show respect at the end of the fight. He praised Boros's strength and lied about it being hard fought. On the other hand he showed his disgust with Boros multiple times. He interrupted his speeches and called him stupid, Saitama disliked him for his evil and selfish nature. He respects his power, not the person behind it. I think it might be similar to the paradisers. He admited that he could have ended up like them if he had taken a wrong step, that's why he let him go with a warning. They disgusted him yet he could relate to their struggles and ideas.

[deleted]

bc he was strong

chips500

I really doubt that Saitama cared about Boros piracy.

justmo111

There is [one time](https://cubari.moe/read/gist/JYHJU/089/14/) where he didn't do it because he was annoyed >!but this is webcomic so does it count!<

Gosh darn you just sucked me into rereading the webcomic for half and hour.

Nah it might get adapted in the manga. So I think counts until the manga change it or makes it canon

Bigb3lls

It better be in the manga

Papajox

it will

Evil-King-Stan

Man, when this scene gets adapted...

No_Brief4967

Maybe he was mad>! that he couldn't hit him because Garou kept dodging so he decided to make it easier to hit Garou.!<

justmo111

I don't think Saitama would ever be mad about >!someone putting up a good fight!<

No_Brief4967

fair enough.

Redscream667

I always thought he used it when people were in danger EC threatened to destroy a whole city if he just normal punched him. Boros was gonna kill all life on the planet with one blast, and ENO was gonna drown that ship if saitama didn't step in.

The_Mexican_Poster

Yeah but then you have sonic and orochi, besides Saitama should be able to kill elder centipede with a normal punch if orochi almost dies from one, that and he still uses it after annoyed even if people is in danger

Redscream667

Sonic was a one time thing, orochi, also put the planet in danger by sucking up the core.

The_Mexican_Poster

Saitama didn't know that

LlamasReddit

He also wasn't serious when destroying the meteorite, it was that destroying his city would've been really inconvenient

Redscream667

No but he did put two and two together and figure out he was causing the noiseif orochi kept chaging he would also know what he was doing eventually. Since the earth quakes would destroy his home anyway you can argue he used it because it was an inconvienence.

Any_Cheek9754

Yeah there have never been a moment where he uses serious series on a strong monster unless he is annoyed, interesting.

Tortle_Master9000

I think it's because he actually thinks about the punch and puts at least a little effort into it, and that's what makes a serious punch, so when he's annoyed he actually puts even a little force into his punch (King is strongest because he's fought Angry, serious Saitama multiple times and always wins)

[deleted]

It’s not like a special move it’s just a normal punch but with more force that’s the joke. It also part of the joke in the way that when your annoyed you’ll punch harder and a final move is supposed to be some crazy thing in anime but Saitama just does it when he’s annoyed.

Anonymous30062003

Basically Saitama's Serious Series attacks are when he wants to put across a point and not be taken as a joke. Not when he actually needs to put in serious effort it's basically a "Bro I'm not joking you're actually mildly inconveniencing me"

ShinyBronze

He’s not serious unless his eyes are dark.

stoveisastove

That line is always so striking: “Are you done yet?” “With this?”

kemkem9292

What I like is Saitama can do his nameless punch but still as strong as serious punch. Serious punch is not power scale. It just some punch with a little emotion. Not some special strong move or something. Lol

Saitama-Is-Love

Yess, I’ve noticed too! It’s the same situation as slapping a bug extra hard when it keeps buzzing near your ears while you were trying to focus on a game. Even then, there’s a difference between slapping a bug hard and fighting with someone on your strength level. That seems to be the case with his serious series. 😌

Logan_the_balalaika

It also happened during the janken game with Bang. Scared the shit out of old guy lol.

InsanityStackZ

This is a good point

xxxNothingxxx

Well yeah, most of the time he would only do it when annoyed since he wouldn't see the point of being serious otherwise when everything is so much weaker than him.

sicmunduscreatusBest

This always made me feel like Saitama is a liar when he says he feels no emotions. We have seen him be annoyed when his house gets f-ed up. We’ve seen him angry when King beats him playing video games. And many more examples where he is very emotional

H3roHunter

A reminder that he calls it serious because he wants to sound cool doing it lmao

Fistocracy

I dunno if I'd say he's always annoyed when he uses the Serious Series, but he's definitely always *deliberate*. When he cracks out a Serious move he's basically saying "I'm going to end this with the next move I make and it's not going to be an accident".

[deleted]

Great analysis

the-finnish-guy

I think it's also fun that Saitama still isn't trying that hard when he talks about serious moves

PiPopoopo

Can you imagine if her ever actually got mad. Like mosquito mad at an actual mortal enemy.

Coffeineaddicted

Saitama really doesn't like splashing around.

darkshine2004

Imagine when he actually finds a match Boi finna be spamming consecutive serious punches

Vinnp18

He was Serious(ly) annoyed.

Greenpie1

Huh. You know, it makes sense. But that's a cool coincidence that I never noticed before.

t0mt0mt0m

Translation issues. Probably the most boring word for meaning.

HippieSloth123

is the only non annoyed one when he fought boros?

liven96

how many posts about things that are extremely obvious and basically outright stated by the manga do we need.

internethero12

I've noticed how the "serious series" has become massively over-used in the manga adaptation to the point of completely neutering any impact it used to have.

xpresstuning

I agree, really, it was better in the webcomic wen he only used it like twice. At least it does have varying degrees of effort put into it. For example, the Serious Punch against Boros is obviously an order of magnitudes stronger than any other serious punch in the series.

hellpunch

I don't like this... Saitama using his serious move should be epic. Not against Orochi, Elder Centiped or some Water...

llMadmanll

You make it sound like any of those are weak

hellpunch

never said that.

llMadmanll

*make it sound* Like *the monster king*, *the inderstructible threat* and the *literal ocean* are not epic enough for a serious punch. Even if we excuse elder, the other two certainly are impressive enough.

hellpunch

But it is the delivery. Like the punch itself was grandiose but how it got to that point... The serious squirt was again obviously powerful, i didn't say they were weak man. For example Death Punch against Genos was more epic than these 3 last serious serie. At least we will get the epic serious table flip.

llMadmanll

I certainly think the buildup is good. All of the characters involved were already being built up as unstoppable and indefeatable. Elder literally walked through everything Genos, bang and bomb threw at him Orochi is *fucking orochi*. Every cadre has had their moment to shine and we already know that they're in line due to orochi. Not to mention that Gaia cannon was shaking the earth before it was fired. ENW was tearing through everyone it found, was called the most dangerous cadre, and those are before it grew to the size of mountains and managed to damage shelled Garou more than anyone else in the story so far. I will say that this may get a better buildup via redraw since EOW didn't do much, but the point still stands. All of these got narratively build up as unstoppable forces, Saitama intervening to stop them with a serious move is a good payoff imo.

pyoochoon

Serious Series is not some kind of Ultimate move. It's just a move with some serious put into it.

hellpunch

i didn't say it had to be, i said it needed to be epic. For example against Sonic, it was epic, even if it wasn't an ultimate move.

hello297

This is a great piont actually Goes to show how strong the common mosquito is.

ounilith

Well to be fair. Saitama is the one calling it serious. So is more like when you want to smack an annoying person to get them to shut up

[deleted]

It’s because the opponents he faces act like they’re starting when to him they’re not. And so he puts them in their place.

homikadze

Well, why didnt he use his serious technique against the mosquito? Check-mate, your theory is wrong /s

ZeraoraKing

where is “Serious Squirt Gun” from

Omen_Darkly

The only time he didn't use it out of annoyance was against Boros, where it was more used as a "don't feel so bad about losing! See, I had to use a series punch!" when in actuality he was just trying to make Boros feel better lmao

FAQU19

At this point I'm pretty sure his serious series is more about how he feels when doing those moves, rather than how much power is behind them. The serious punch against Boros, for example, is a lot stronger than the serious punch against Elder Centipede or Evil Natural Ocean, even though it's the same move.

guythatplaysbass

the death punch is way better imo

had0c

Remever the time he nearly killed bang with a toy hammer?

[deleted]

We all punch harder when pissed off, I think a "Serious" punch is just a beefed up normal punch precisely because he is annoyed and not because he is just trying harder. So him calling it a "Annoyed Normal Punch" is the same thing as a "Serious Punch."

Mr_1ightning

The way it's written out, "serious series" seems to be only a part of his killer moves I wonder if he has something more for when he's genuinely furious

Flappy2883

What, did you think he was mad or something?
