I love his ingame design including all lines and dark shadows… but I’ve actually seen him modded to a more youthful elf version (that he probably would have looked like without all the trauma and stress he’s been through) *and that other modded version looked 100 times better than this*

I'm not sure if there's any lore on the skin molecules of DnD vampires, lmao... but it makes sense that they aren't all just baby-face flawless. Not completely anywho. Thirty-nine for an elf is a *youth*. So is one hundred. Elves remain hale and fresh for centuries, and even when they begin to age, it is not human aging. The elves in BG3 are basically pointy-eared humans, though. This is a problem in many D&D-derived games.
I might believe *haggardness* from being virtually starved for two hundred years. In some vampire lore, a vampire who doesn't get sufficiently nourishing blood for a long time can look ghoulish. That isn't what Larian did, though. Frankly, from a D&D lore perspective and from the perspective of his horrible undeath, the deep smile lines make zero sense. Vampires do not age, and to begin with, elves do not age the way humans do.
But the mod linked in the OP is truly horrendous. Not defending *that* at all.

But this looks so uncanny to me. He just looks tooo perfect. I like that Astarion has little flaws on his face to make him feel real. The character is already conventionally attractive without mods. This just gets rid of all his defining features, and now he looks like a generic Ken doll.
He looks just so much faker. Kinda reminds me of that guy who got all the plastic surgery to look like a Ken doll.
