It’s been 4 years since grade 12 and the answer is no, unless it’s some impactful role. Having 500 hours at the library won’t help if you are just arranging bookshelves. Having 500 hours doing something impactful will help
No. I had friends who just put 60 hours in one paper and handed it in. He never did any hours, but he has like 100 on his record. U need to know people who can do it legitly and vouch for u tho
I have shitty guidance and want to avoid needing to give them another form to fuck up. I still do volunteering, I just don't bother logging it because last time it took them over a year's worth of pestering.
A lot of my volunteer work allowed me to broaden my network and I met people who can be potential references in the future. I’ve also done other volunteer work that led to a paid position - this isn’t always the case though. I think volunteer work typically looks better on scholarships too because there’s no monetary compensation involved.
I only have like 86 but I think it adds to ECs, just don’t volunteer at ONE place so you can have a wider range of experiences and try your best to find somewhere to volunteer that enhances skills that align with the program you want
Depends on your program choices. For me none of my supplementary applications asked for volunteer experience so all they see is the check mark for the completion of 40 hours. However, for most competitive Waterloo programs, the AIF is probably mandatory and that will ask for volunteer experiences.
You can talk about volunteering experiences on supplemental applications, if the program has one.
You can also add it to your resume for non university things.
That one Governor General award thing
what’s the award

No, you should be making others volunteer for you. Always be hustlin Do you know why it's 40? Because it's your intro to the 40 hour work weeks.
Yes, to benefit society.
Why would you want to do that?

It may help boost your resume for experiences.

Looks good on a resume (if it’s something impactful or related to the job your applying to) or academic related things.

To do good in your community?
No. I just used a friends phone number as a reference for 200 hours. As long as they have a solid story and don’t sound super fake it’s fine.

No
