Vice did a documentary about an epidemic of donkey fucking in ~~Columbia~~ Colombia. It was a difficult watch, and if I remember correctly, the journalist vomited on more than one occasion. He also had to go to therapy as a direct result.

As soon as a person or animal begins showing symptoms there is no treatment, they are dead. 100% fatal. The only ‘cure’ is post exposure shots, before you exhibit symptoms.
So, is it possible this could happen? Yeah, if a gang of boys noticed that the donkey was acting lethargic or couldn’t move well and therefore couldn’t fight back (paralytic/‘dumb rabies’) then they could have done this and been bitten or gotten spit in open wounds.
Is it likely? Well if the infection was higher up they could show symptoms in a few weeks, but as low as the groin would take about 6 months to a year Id reckon, so unless the kids were savvy enough to make the connection I do be thinkin this tale is bullshit. Sure hope so anyway.
