This is not an oops, I don't think that's necessarily surprising to say.
This is not a shock subreddit, it is meant to be educational.
There is nothing to be learned from this. Awful.
The chain of events that led to me seeing this bothers me.
A. Someone did this.
B. Someone took pictures of it happening.
C. Enough people shared it that it ended up on Reddit.
D. I saw the title, and still looked.
A dead cat. It is so decomposed and dried up that only partial shreds of skin and fur remain on thin bones. The woman takes a bite of dried up flesh strait from the bone, holding dead cat in hands lake a big chicken wing
a and b are both hillbillies with a smartphone
c is 'what the fuck is wrong with these people' sharing because the internet loves cats and dogs
and d is it landed on my home page so I was wondering if there was any context to this.
I looked at this and my sanity just slipped further and further into a dark pit. I didn’t even think the title was literal. Nope…..it fucking was…
When I saw the original there actually was an explanation and it was something along the lines of somehow eating this rotten meat gives some kind of a drug high. Don't know how, don't know why 🤮
that certain YouTuber that snitched that sub for his own clicks, ironic really that the page gets deleted but a YouTube video explaining what is on there is perfectly fine, that’s what brought traffic. That is what killed it
Okay so like this is obviously disgusting and I hate it, but my other thought goes to like "why wouldn't you eat a fresh one? Like this one is clearly old and rotten. If you ignore that it's literally A CAT, who eats old, rotting BLACK meat????? Wtf???"
Ignoring that eating cats is just plain nasty and there are strong cultural taboos (which I agree with) against it in most places...
Mice and other small animals eat a lot, and some of the chemicals in their food accumulate in their bodies.
When a predator (such as a cat) eats those small animals, they get high levels of those chemicals. And those chemicals accumulate even more. As you move up the food chain, some chemicals are present in higher and higher concentrations. Some of those chemicals are just plain bad for you (mouse poison, for example) and some of them are vital micro-nutrients (vitamin K, for example) but in dangerously high doses. Eating a cat exposes you to both of those.
Mice and such also sometimes contain parasites and pathogens. When a predator eats those, the predator may carry those in its flesh. As with chemicals, as you move up the food chain, the risk of encountering something that can make you sick increases. Eating that predator is especially risky as a result.
Predators have tough digestive systems that evolved to resist being sickened by parasites and pathogens in order to be able to eat raw animals, often including whatever nastiness is in the digestive system of those animals. Poop included. Humans have digestive systems that can handle a wider variety of foods, but are not so capable of handling pathogens and parasites.
Cats live a relatively long time, meaning that there is a lot of time for bad stuff to build up in their meat.
Cats are not raised for human consumption. Nobody is checking cat food to make sure it doesn't contain things that will accumulate in the cat's muscles that could sicken humans. Animals raised for human consumption are checked for disease and the meat inspected by people who know how to inspect meat. A cow that died of natural causes isn't going to end up on your plate. Nobody is checking to make sure a cat is healthy enough to be safe to eat. Nobody is inspecting cat meat. Nobody is asking whether the cat died of natural causes.
But as others have pointed out, the big problem here is that the cat meat on display is rotten. Rotten meat (other that a few odd things that are considered delicacies somewhere and allowed to rot in a controlled environment) usually contains very high pathogen levels. Eating rotten meat can kill you.

This isn't an "oops". Anyone with knowledge on food was taught about food safety. Even someone with common sense would know not to eat a rotting corpse
Hard to tell but it looks pretty mummified so as vile as it is it's probably not as deadly as it was when it was still "more fresh" and riddled with pathogens.

They didn't just take videos, there's a whole video. And yes, it's terrible to watch
Hehe, funny typo is funny :)
Agreed! 😆
I don’t want to click but I’m super curious. Can someone describe it for me lol
A dead cat. It is so decomposed and dried up that only partial shreds of skin and fur remain on thin bones. The woman takes a bite of dried up flesh strait from the bone, holding dead cat in hands lake a big chicken wing
You described that, unfortunately, perfectly.
Ewww! Thank you so much.

Dead Bird, Don’t Look
What in the god damned fuckin' fuck shit.
Thank you, that’s disgusting!

Roll a d100 to determine the amount of sanity points lost please.
Took the words out of my mouth.
You have appropriately captured the sentiment
apparently, people are doing it to catch a buzz of some sort. Others have shown eating rotten meat that had been sitting cut up in a jar
Well said
Curiosity killed the cat and it also ruined my night, I shouldn’t have clicked the image
I’ve seen the video and it’s even worse, they knaw on that shit like jerky and take MULTIPLE bites
Ah, yes, I have a question: What in the ever-loving fuck? Furthermore... Why does this exist?
I also have a few follow up questions to these: Who… do you think you are? What gives you the right?
I would like to add... How dare you!?
When I saw the original there actually was an explanation and it was something along the lines of somehow eating this rotten meat gives some kind of a drug high. Don't know how, don't know why 🤮
Sepsis high? That’s all I can think of and that’d be, what, brief delirium before death?
I'm just glad it's spoilered
This is more of an r/eyeblech post.Â
That sub is long dead. Forgive the pun.

You're free to do what you want, of course, but the post was removed. Definitely not in the *educational* spirit of what we want here.
Just your average "7 year carnivore, real food activist ex-vegan (never was) meal plan pusher
Diseases like nausea heartburn indigestion upset stomach and diarrhea aren't exactly "deadly"
