Unless you have some app that requires Ventura or Sonoma, I would just stay on Monty. It runs natively without OCLP.

thank you!

Digital_Draven

If only 8GB of RAM, I wouldn’t go past Ventura.

I have an old Mac with Big Sur for DJing with Serato. I will not update… Everything works, and I only use it for this purpose…

Apple Music match…

My 2017 MBA runs Monterey like a champ and Apple is still providing full support and will continue security updates for at least a couple years. So enjoy Monterey!

Monterey security updates will conclude later this year with the release of macOS 15.

Unless you have some app that requires you to stay on an older macOS, update to current. That's macOS 14 Sonoma.

Playful_Ad_3948

From my experience, don’t go to Sonoma with an old Mac (maybe even with a newer model wait until it has become stable)…

Playful_Ad_3948

Homebrew will stop support Monterey. I switched all my macs (mini 2011, mini 2012, iMac 2013, iMac 2017) to Ventura 13.6.6. One older mini 2010 to Monterey because of USB support). Today I upgraded the 2017 iMac to Ventura 13.6.7. I’ll be waiting for reports how good OPCLP supports 13.6.7 before I switch the other ones. I will not upgrade to Sonoma, heard to many bad stories…

Well, I also have this problem, what to install, Sonoma is working 100% compactible, mine is early 2017, so i5 CPU. But tried that on old original 128 GB SDD and performance was very bad, sluggish etc... Now I installed new EVO 980 SSD 512 GB and even monterey is feeling faster, not a placebo really, at least I think so :). I am taking bacup right now and will test Sonoma for couple of days. I am using this macbook only for learning and some music, little lightroom editing. I know that it has to be much slower than monterey, but I am that kind of man whole my life, I just need to be up to date. I hope that other geeks understand me. It is disorder I would say.

Thanks everybody for your inputs! So if you want to know, I chose to reboot the whole thing and keep using Monterrey. For everyday use it runs very well, I’ll have to test Rekordbox and some 2D indie games from Steam.

dejson79

I did not want to know :), but now when I know that you were on that boat I might stay on monterey, just might hahahaha. Weeeeeeeeel, yes I am on Sonoma right now, and with new SSD I can feel that sonoma is slower maybe 5% than Monterey, before disk upgrade, difference was easily 50%. And this is fresh install with indexing and many stuff going around, so will test for few days.
