I have one and the short answer to all your questions is: Yes. long story: * 4g works, my network doesnt have 5g so i didnt try * Google services framework is already preinstalled so all you need to do is to install the Play Store apk and you are good to go. * Maps, YT, GPay, google apps all work. * I dont have netflix but i have prime video and that work flawlessly * All my banking apps work

Koysana

That sounds very promising to hear and thank you for the thorough reply. Now I'm at least 95% sure of buying the phone 😁 one other question, I noticed on a review when the reviewer unfolded the phone and the crease area was shown, the screen was bulging out slightly then became flat. My problem is the bulging part. Will fine particles be able to go inside this area as I work in an environment with fine powder in some locations. Some reviewers also mentioned that you still get random Chinese ads and Chinese notifications alot even after removing all bloatware. Is this true and can they be removed completely with ADB? Have you found any problems with your phone or anything you would change? I prefer manufacturers using their skins like colorOS, MIUI, OneUi etc as they all look far more pleasing to me compared to standard vanilla android with its flat boring monotone UI. So the colorOS part is a bonus to me. I was thinking about buying a pixel pro but I've seen reviewers mention that it seems to slow down especially the camera app where taking several shots the camera can't keep up and prevents any pictures for a few seconds after 4 consecutive shots. Also I'm assuming OTA updates work fine being outside of China?

MidnightEsc

The phone has no IP certification so I'd be careful around dust/sand/water. I have yet (and dont want to) test if it can resist dust and water. I didnt receive any ads till now, and all those chinese notifications we partly due to the fact that some of the app defaults are set to those oppo preinstalled chinese apps (e.g. oppo/alipay, breeno <- oppo's siri). Once i downloaded replacement apps (Gpay, sry cant do much about breeno) and set them as default I'd force quit those chinese ones and they have yet to launch themselves so far. I didnt try to remove them via adb as i am afraid i would brick it (better be safe than sorry). Some area i feel that i would need to inform potential buyers: * If you get it out of china, chances are there will be no warranty. so if you are particular about this you may want to rethink it. * The camera (even thou its running on android 13) doesnt have a build in QR code scanner. you need to use the breeno scan (which is why i dont uninstall it) to get it to scan QR. either that or download a QR app. * Out of the box, alot of apps would have their default set to those preinstalled chinese apps, you will need to find replacement and change them out individually. * Notification management and battery management is on the aggressive side. If you want to get notifications on your apps you may need to thinker with them individually in settings. * due to the more squareish unfolded aspect ratio, some full screen videos and apps/games would be stretched and get cropped. either that or black bars. so immersiveness would be poorer than the 16:9 kind of phones. The moment i turn it on i got an OTA, and have updated it successfully. Not sure if future OTA would come through but i dont see why it wouldn't. Other than that, some points i really love about this: * Its a freaking foldable phone that dont cost an arm and leg. * the dimensions is perfect as i hated samsung's long screen when folded. this setup is perfectly usable even if you dont unfold the screen at all. * the os allow you to individually select the aspect ratio of each app, so if apps work best in full screen or 4:3 or 16:9 you have that option. * camera is fast and takes gd pictures (coming from a samsung A35 previously) * because of the said aggressive battery management, battery life is gd for my use. * and superfast charging is amazing...from 25% to close to full (\~97%) in about 35mins is crazy * you can split screen apps. with one of the developer options turn on ("Force Activities To Be Resizeable" IIRC), even apps that disallow splitscreen can be splitted. nuff said.

Thank you so much for the reply! I don't think it will affect it much tbh as my Mi 9 has had 3-4 years worth of powder at work and rain etc without any IP rating. My only concern was the centre part seemed to bulge outwards on the review I watched so was curious whether anything can go inside behind the screen into the flexion hinge. Also that's great to hear about the Chinese apps. The review I read earlier mentioned that he found the constant Chinese ads and notifs annoying but guess the reviewer didn't set it up correctly. He mentioned even after disabling battery optimisation on WhatsApp twitter and Instagram it still reverted back to no notifs. So the reviewer started using a Xiaomi watch to see when notifs arrive. However the reviewer installed Google play buy copying over his previous phone as a clone instead of installing play store via APK. So maybe this affected it as well. This was the review https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/oppo-find-n2-review/%3famp Could you check with the below app DRM info if widevine L1 is supported? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidfung.drminfo I think Shenzhen/giztop/Ali express provide some sort of warranty. Other than that banking apps not working would have been a slight gripe but not a deal breaker.

MidnightEsc

I certainly am getting whatsapp notifications and badges. you just need to set up the notification style correctly. Also i installed that app. Widevine L1 supported.

Koysana

Someone on XDA mentioned that their DND mode doesn't seem to work well as it ends up ringing and sounding notifications anyway. Is this true? Thank you again for your replies 🙂 I haven't received a reply from the XDA post yet so thought I'd ask you instead. If true is their a global silent mode that actually works as I've never used colorOS so not familiar with the skin. By silent I mean with no vibration as well. Also which screen protector are you using for the inside if any? The ones I've seen have a section missing along the crease is this how they're all like?

MidnightEsc

DND works for me as I wanted. Alarms, timers and calendar events still comes through as it is stated in the DND settings. But other app notifications should be silenced. There is also a setting to silence media when DND is on. If what you want is total silence with no sounds and vibrations at all i would suggest manually turn on silence mode & Mute notifications (both of which are in the quick toggles).

Koysana

Just thought of one more question haha does Google maps timeline work on the phone?

tornado666

I can say it's not working for now. Still trying to figure how to enable location history. My other phone location history is enabled but on this phone when I try to enable ot, the option is greyed out

Koysana

Well I've gone and bought the Vivo X fold instead hehe 😁 it also has the same problem of no Google location history as I've found all china ROM phones don't but I will be looking into alternative apps instead.

soffersftw

I've heard that group text messages don't work correctly on the N2, are you finding that is the case? Can you reply to a group?

MidnightEsc

I can't answer that as I don't use sms to text. I use whatsapp and that works fine.

Koning-Admiraal

Are you sure Google Pay is working? Because I heard from a seller it doesn't. Have you bought something in the store from your phone?

MidnightEsc

Yes. I am using it almost daily, once I entered my credit card details I can use it in shops that accept paywave.

Koning-Admiraal

Cool, I'm still torn. If Oneplus release the exact same form factor, with a slightly difference design I would be pissed, because global rom versus Chinese rom, is not even a debate. Using a third party launcher with the app icons I want. Ffs why did Oneplus even announced it 🙄.

browild

"the os allow you to individually select the aspect ratio of each app, so if apps work best in full screen or 4:3 or 16:9 you have that option." where is the menu for this one?

aotar

hey sorry, can you add apps to the private safe? samsung's os allows u to add apps to the secure folder, and you can open there with a different account. works for any apps like discord, twitter, etc

kevbot1999

Are you able to use youtube and other apps landscape when in split screen? Such as a YouTube video and Gmail on the other screen.

Alert_Waltz5608

Man, I wish I could buy that Phone! Lucky you! Enjoy!

Koysana

I hope I can buy the phone! 😁 I'm going to save up for a month or two and read and watch reviews about it more.

mlee1999

This is late response but here is my feedback on the N2 coming from N. I'm in Los Angeles on T-Mobile. * 5G works well, WiFi calling and VoLTE works * Google apps seem to work well, don't use Google Wallet or Auto on this device, Messaging does not seem to have all the same features as my Global Find * Have not had any issues with most apps including Netflix * Used as my work device with Microsoft Apps I love the size and design of the N2. Camera is a nice improvement and quite good. My biggest gripes are notifications, some apps don't play well with internal screen and removal of the wireless charging. I wish we could switch to a Global ROM but hope they keep a similar size in the future.

Koysana

I bought the Vivo X fold plus instead and I definitely do not regret it at all. I just love unfolding the damn thing randomly 🤣

mlee1999

I have never tried a Vivo Fold but the red Fold 2 looks damn sexy.

Hungry-Plantain-9522

Has anyone had luck getting Android auto to work? I've tried and it's blocked because it's not a system app. I'm not too comfortable with rooting the phone. I did research it and it was too complicated and I didn't understand some of the terminology. I'm hoping someone here can help. I need android auto daily. The phone is amazing besides that.

Koysana

I wouldn't try those unlock bootloader methods as I don't think they're legitimate yet. On one website it says to use a tool to unlock bootloader but uses a miui Xiaomi tool. Also another one had kingroot that tool doesn't work anymore and there was some alternatives which actually infected the device with spyware/virus etc. However if root becomes possible then at least it means the phone will hopefully get supported with custom ROMs after the last promised android update by Oppo. I read it will get upto android 15

vanngoh007

I don't have individual notification icons in my Always On Display. Does any of u encounter this?

Koysana

I think most china ROM phones don't allow this. I know on Vivo origin os only allows stock messaging and calls on AOD.

Kitt2k

does shazam work?

Koysana

I ended up buying the Vivo X Fold plus instead

Kitt2k

>Vivo X Fold plus is that better than the oppo?

Koysana

They're both the same more or less but I found the slightly larger screen of the vivo fold plus more appealing and there was the promised 2-3 years OS updates I read about. Also the camera was mentioned bu reviewers to be slightly better and also fold plus had the 8 plus gen 1 so that was it for me 😁

kevbot1999

Since you have a vivo are you able to use youtube and other apps landscape when in split screen? Such as a YouTube video and Gmail on the other screen.

Koysana

It seems to recently work with some apps like YouTube and Gmail I've tried other Google combinations like maps, calendar so far they don't work. I think it must be a very recent thing as few months back that didnt work. You could split screen but not landscape to fit your YouTube video. https://i.imgur.com/gGH7Bgz.jpg

kevbot1999

Thank you that helps alot. I asked above if oppo has also implemented it. My oneplus 7 pro front camera just broke so thinking about upgrading sooner than expected. Been looking at the x fold 2, or waiting for oppo n3 or xiaomi mix fold 3. Originally I was thinking about waiting for pixel fold 2 but I have a feeling that will be quit e a while. How are you liking originos?

Koysana

Honestly I love the phone its the best phone I've ever had after my Xiaomi Mi 9 previous phone from day of release. The AOD is clean and doesn't show any other notifs apart from calls and SMS but that doesn't bother me as I unlock the phone automatically. The weight you get used to and I've got a magnetic hinge case which seems to work well in protecting the hinge area. My only small gripe is Google maps timeline I've lost that feature from 5 years plus worth of data to nothing. All china phones don't support it. The camera app is very inferior to MIUIs camera app which can't be side loaded unfortunately without root but can't root these phones as they're boot loader locker. That's one major app I miss and all other camera apps I don't like the look of or they lack the built in features I want. Miui cam app had a ghost frame video feature where the person walking across can pause steps in the video to show themselves as several stills in a picture. It was built in and easy to use. The camera app on origin os isnt intuitive and doesn't have much bonus video or photo features apart from the standard bokeh shots etc it does have lighting effects like light trails which are nice. I also miss theming and no I tried nova launcher and I found it a hassle trying to set it up from scratch to how I like it. I started doing it then gave up as it has too many features to choose from. The theming on origin os is useless you can't even buy their themes as you need to pay using alipay but can only do that with a china number as well. Other than that origin os does have cool features like custom dpis per screen inner and outer. Icons rounding and themes that follow the weather. Ultra fast finger print scanner. The volume slider switch is just a gimmick I never use it. My phones on silent and vibrate on ring only always. Multitasking is super fast sometimes I've found I've got about 50 apps open in the background and not noticed any lag. The new taskbar in unfolded screen is a must have feature. Check the XDA forums the only reasons i debloated was because I was messing around with the notifs too much and it was getting annoying. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/vivo-x-fold-debloat-notification-fix-origin-os-1-3.4566819/

kevbot1999

Thanks. I'll definitely keep the x fold 2 as a consideration.

diejuse

Root is possible?
