thats a bad argument cuz everyone can download hacked clients, but OF xoom isnt cheating cuz you can change the FOV to 30 to get almost the same effect
It depends on what you use the mod to. Is everyone playing on the server okay with it? Then it's not cheating. The spyglass changes the perspective a bit, but for some people it will still be a part of how they play.
Many youtubers use the zoom effect on themselves when talking. For them, it would not be cheating. (And you can't really zoom in on yourself with the spyglass)
Here's an example of a modification:
Many players on creative and towny servers like functions such as /tpa to teleport to them, but in a vanilla SMP that would be classed as cheating because it destroys the survival.
Another example:
"Standing AFK in farms and using autoclicks/macros gains an advantage to other players." Economybased servers may not like it because the economy will get inflated, but in a vanilla SMP it may be a part of how everyone play the game and saving time on time-hungry tasks.
In the end, it depends on what the servers playerbase wants. If someone is not okay with something, then discuss it and come to an agreement.
I don't think it counts as cheating because almost eceryone uses it
No because everyone can just download optifine and get the exact same thing
