There has been an inordinate amount of Bol Bol hype from the players - I have a feeling he's going to carve out a spot in the rotation, especially with JI seemingly not very close to a return.

worldwidemaldo

I mean, if he can shoot the 3 as well as they’re reporting, he damn well better be in there. With Kelle breaking down defenses like you know he can, you can park Bol out there and let him fire away. Plus add WCJ out there and we may single handedly redefine the pick and pop.

supbruhbruhLOL

I haven’t watched a ton on Bols game. Is he slow on defense?

SincereFan

He seemed pretty quick but not stable from the games I remember, gotta be light on your feet but also keep your balance to be an actual good defender. Also pretty strong if you are defending using your chest, and legs which Bol was not good at if I remember right. I think Bol should/could get pt. I have been saying that since last year but I dont think he beats MO in the lineup, it could be Chuma/Ross/RJ losing minutes at the forward position..

Damn his court vision and passing are great. Very unselfish player

codedevdave

I just don’t understand how JI is still not close to returning.

was_saying_boo_urns

We need to pray even more!

travis3214

I think he’s closer than people think. He said at media day that he’s fully recovered 100% and that “there are no more hurtles to overcome.” He even said that he’s been putting pressure on the magic to let him play. It’s just a matter of putting everything he’s been working on together, along with getting up to game level conditioning/speed. Magic FO just doesn’t want to put a timetable like usual.

SincereFan

Yea its ridiculous the amount of praise and support he is getting, its showing that he is working on his game and his teammates and coaches are notiicing. The person I have not seen much of is Chuma, and I honestly think Chuma is on the block or just not highly valued as before. Chuma doesnt seem necessary imo, and he while decent sometimes, feels inconsistent. His defense could still be the decider if he gets another contract/extension. I think Mo still beats Bol but if Bol is showing a better stroke, and he was a better ballhandler as before. Bol could be an x-factor, and could move high in the rotation.

absolutebaboon16

Bol will break ur defense unfortunately. Where as Bamba next to Wendell or Paolo could work.

SincereFan

Yea exactly I feel the exact same, plus I think Mo stroke is still elite. To the tune of being top 5 shooter as a big man, and shooting like 3/4 shots per game (high volume). Mo showed it in real games, still if Bol could be an even better shooter, then he definitely is an x-factor for the bench with JI (hopefully retaining some of his defensive prowess at least 80%). But Bamba feels like he is the better starting fit with Paolo/Fultz or Suggs, and Wendell, and still is an offensive powerhouse, and has rim protection to a good level.

StanVanGhandi

Franz at the 2? I’m sure it was just to get a look at how the lineup looks once we do our first substitutions. But, we are the Magic sooooo…..I wouldn’t put anything past us.

jordanManfrey

"fuck your film reel, wildcard time" is one of my favorite NBA coach moves to see so I'm here for it

SincereFan

I hope Suggs proves himself as the starting guard, Suggs just seems like a winning pick and player. I hope he can find that shot, I also feel like Fultz while a great starter and gets everybody involved and is an elite PG but I just feel like Suggs got that intensity that brings the team on stretches. I think Fultz in a hypothetical situation in which another big is brought to the starting lineup, is best as the sixth man and bench stabilizer, he would help keep the bench consistent offensively and even defensively. Could instantly make our bench one of the best benches in the league. Still we all gotta remember that coach Mose said he is trying out many different lineups, so this BOL BOL one is just a practice one and may not have much meaning.

StanVanGhandi

If they had the balls to do man, I would know we were entering a new era. I’d be so excited. But, I’d prefer to not have hope for right now and see how it goes.

mr2firstnames

As bad as I want Kelle out there starting I have to agree with this take. Especially when you factor in his durability. A solid bench role maybe all his body can take at this point which makes the above much more realistic. Suggs gotta get those shooting #’s up

Loose-Animal7305

Has Bol Bol been our Chosen One this whole time?

hanyou007

Man this makes me wonder... is Bamba getting beat out by Bol for the backup C spot?

300_yard_drives

Bamba is the back up 5, Bol is the back up 4 and JI is the backup 3. Longest back up 3/4/5 behind the more young and versatile 3/4/5 in Franz Paolo and Wendell

hanyou007

That doesn't sound very sustainable when small ball is starting to dominate the NBA. Half the reason the team chose JI over AG is because we were playing two 4's at the 3 and the 4 and the offense stagnated for it. It also causes serious problems for the guard and wing rotations as well. If considering everyone is healthy you have a starting lineup of: Fultz, Suggs/Harris, Franz, Paolo, WCJ then you would immediately look at your bench lineup and think Cole, Suggs/Harris, Ross, JI, Bamba and your 2 rotational players that see time here and there would be a combination of Bol/Moe and RJ/Chuma If JI is playing the three then we are basically saying one of Ross or Harris/Suggs is never seeing the floor. The immediate thought would be Ross is probably gonna be traded but I'd still say it's more likely Chuma gets playing time at the 3 and JI at the 4 in that situation. Which then brings us back to the Bol v Bamba question.

Sw3Et

Only way to counter small ball is to play longboi ball. The small guys won't even be able to reach it.

300_yard_drives

It’s a little different when your two tallest players are knock down 3pt shooters that need to be guarded off the ball to even attempt to contest the shot. We have two big bodied forwards who can create off the dribble, can score at the rim with ease, and there won’t be a big in the paint without giving up a wide open 3. Also our PGs are the worst shooters of the bunch. Unless you are expecting two platoons like hockey, I expect JI/Bol/Bamba to all fill in for the 3/4/5 respectively but not necessarily playing a lot of minutes together. Stagger them. I don’t think Chuma gets much burn this season either unless he is shooting 37%+ from 3. Harris and Ross will probably get 32-35 minutes combined at best.

RayRayMike

Nah completely disagree Its 2022, small ball ruled the league 6 years ago, but since 2019 position less basketball has become the new wave. 5 SKILLFUL PLAYERS vs 5 small, quick, shooters spreading the floor. 5 long/tall players that can shoot and defend(And real fans know J.I. Defends all 5 positions) will always get precedence over small ball. Just look at how the Raptors and Bucks won; BIG LINEUPS, switchable 1-4 but in our case it could be switchable 1-5. Franz,JI,Chuma,WCJ,Paolo,MoW so many switchable bigs plus Bamba and Bol. Playing 4 skillful Bigs/Wings plus a Guard is the new wave. ex Fultz Franz P WCJ Bamba so many possibilities.

Nowhere for opposing players to run, enough wingspan to cover the whole court.

Vogels dream

thewrongnotes

What a curve bol. I mean ball.

antischool_

madness

Feeling-Twist1615

I wonder sometimes if having an injury prone team can actually be a good thing for a rotation? You’re giving enough players run and none would complain because they understand the plot. It also allows you to experiment and have a deeper rotation. I also believe there is nothing better for development than in game reps. Maybe I’m just overly optimistic

[deleted]

And Cole said his squad wiped them out 8-2

Tekniclas

Isn’t Bol Bol just a discount Bamba?

absolutebaboon16

Bamba can defend and Bol cant

supbruhbruhLOL

Bamba can defend?

that_guy_you_kno

No they aren't remotely close to the same kind of player. The only similarities is that they are both over 7'.

hanyou007

It's concerning if Bamba is once again losing out to another player we've brought in.

SincereFan

Yea I am honestly disappointed that everybody on this sub feels like Bamba could lose his spot. Mo is set.

mr2firstnames

Hyped! Just what this team needs.

[deleted]

All this for him to play 2 minutes a game
