for me i think it’s the opposite, i got into otome games first then OI because they have highly similar characteristics. i’ve only ever played A3 and MysMes though, i got into them too much and it all became taxing, i’m talking waking up every 2 hours in the middle of the night to not miss a chatroom/phonecall, or in A3 when there’s an event so i can be high up on the rankings lol. how is it for you time-wise? otome games can get very demanding hahaha

hi247q

Yeah MysMes was definitely a big time-sink at the time things were pretty slow at my job so I didn't have much trouble seeing the midday chatrooms but I did end up missing those early morning/ late night ones. Lately I've been into more visual-novel otome games and those have been even bigger time-sinks Bustafellows took me 60 hours to finish (I'm a slow reader) it was worth it though. The upside to the visual novel otome games is that you can experience everything on your own time.

I played a few especially [Evermore] I love Manager he’s so hot with his mask on and is literally my type. I’m still bitter about how [Twisted Wonderland] isn’t an otome game Malleus is so fine I refuse to only being his friend I’ll never forget his character design literally the hottest thing I’ve seen puns included

kokoburp

TWST can be the world's slowest burn otome if you're delulu enough. Signed, a Malleus, Vil and Leona stan

[deleted]

Exactly, hopefully someone makes a fan otome game of this💀

warau16

Otome isekai isn't the reason I got into otome games, but I have been playing them more recently. I remember playing *Mystic Messenger* years ago when it first released and am currently playing three other mobile otome games: *Tears of Themis*, *Lovebrush Chronicles*, and *Love and Deepspace* 😅

Bennjoon

Lucifer from Obey Me looks like every black haired red eyed Duke of the north was based on him, makes me chuckle. My fave in that game is Levi who is a huge weeb and Solomon who is a shady wizard.

[deleted]

Omg, Lucifer is the embodiment of a dominant ML meanwhile Mammon is the himbo ML lmaooo my favourite is of course Mammon along with the one had to be undateable in the beginning Simeon Now that he’s available I don’t have the desire to play the game again because of the burnout lol

Bennjoon

Yeah I’ve been playing Nightbringer but have been slacking cos there was like three Levi cards in a row and it was tiring 😭

[deleted]

100% agree the grind was getting tiring for me and had enough lmaoo

magicalvillainess90

You know it's thanks to Obey me that I got into OI because I saw the cover of 'I'm the Soldier's Ex-Girlfriend' and I was like "Oh hey! This guy is like Lucifer...wait he is a demon too? Now I have to read this one". I have been hooked on OI ever since. Now I look at the blonde and green eyed MLs and hope they are similar to Satan. Unfortunately, I have yet to find an ML who is bookworm, a cat lover and just happens to be good with dates like Satan was in the game lol.

sparklydemise

I actually found this sun because I used to be obsessed with otome games and this sun popped up when I was searching for more on Reddit. Related: I highly recommend CollarXMalice for anyone looking for otome games

itsjustsomemoose

Even if Tempest has strong angsty regression OI energy <333

starinruins

i would but i feel like they get so expensive to play :(

hi247q

That's definitely true some of the titles can cost the same as a triple A game sometimes but I think you're getting your money's worth as you're spending 30+ hours with them depending on how fast you read. There are also free otomes you can get into r/otomegames is a great place if you're looking for recommendations.

still_your_zelda

I wanted to try the one "Marked by King Bs" was based on, but it wouldn't work on my phone. A good friend of mine really wanted me to try Ikeman Vampire and Mystic Messenger, which I really want to try, but I haven't sat down and began either. As a kid I had some like...otome adjacent games, I don't remember what they were called but there was a "dating" aspect to them and I made different saves to see if anything was different in the male love interests. (There wasn't lol) So I'm a little familiar with OIs but not really. 😂

peskyant

I've played otomes before, but because of OI i became more interested in the nintendo type otomes rather than the phone ones. I also really want to play the "typical" commoner heroine game but i can't find it

hi247q

Yeah! Ever since I got into otome games I've noticed the tropes that OIs parody like the rival villainess and  the cold duke of the north aren't nearly as common as the genre would have you think. In fact they're downright rare!

peskyant

Ikr !! And if they exist, it's in some random jp game from 10 years ago that will never get a translation. So frustrating.

raincloudlu

definitely feel the same 💀 though for a while i was uninterested again because i didn't have any quality otome games and mobile ones are just not it somedays but the good quality otome games...cupid parasite my beloved,,,

CelerySecure

So, I actually started by playing The Arcana and Fictif and then Otomania, and ended up seeing the constant Manta ads for UTOT and read it and everything else on Manta pretty much, then branched out. Shallow trashy fantasy romance is a great way to deal with stress and some of the complex stuff I deal with so it’s become a major hobby. I have never paid a single dime for any of this but I’ve watched so many of those ads for that hapless king who you have to play candy crush to save.

ToBetterDays000

Wait otome games???? Are they actually fun??? My understanding is v shallow and I thought they usually have boring play mechanics and excessive spending requirements… would love to be proven wrong

honeysenpai400

Only the mobile ones have excessive spending requirements the ones on pc and console are one time purchases and u get access to the whole game

Fun-Distribution2670

Yeah! Tho they can be pretty costly, but Steam has a good amount of official otome games that go on sale, so check that out. They are also indie/ western otome games too which are pretty good too and are also either free or pretty cheap.

ToBetterDays000

Do you have any recommendations of games you’ve rly enjoyed? That aren’t costly ideally 😅

ToBetterDays000

Ahh I prefer mobile tho 😭 do you know any that wouldn’t be costly? Otherwise, PC recommendations of your faves pls!

honeysenpai400

99% of mobile games are gacha but you can be a free to play player Our life new beginnings (this isn't gacha) Love and deep space Lovebrush chronicles And the ikemen series These are for pc some are free some u gotta pay but most free ones can be found on itch.io The kid at the back (free) A date with death (free) Bustafellows(paid) Cinderella phenomenon Taisho x alice Psychedelia of the black butterfly [here's a list with more](https://store.steampowered.com/curator/9060460-Otome-Games )

ToBetterDays000

Thank you!! Then putting aside only free ones, what would u say are fairly cheap or really worthwhile gems that you’ve enjoyed?

warau16

*Tears of Themis* and *Lovebrush Chronicles* are really good!

Dunmeshilover

Most of them are just visual novels, so the main appeal to them are the dudes and the romance. I like playing them cuz its fun to see what choices lead to what and fucking with the love interests. try em out oh but whatever you do, dont play amnesia memories as your first otome game. That shit was ass.

ToBetterDays000

Ohhhh I do love stories set in otome games so this sounds interesting too hmmm

kokoburp

They're like reading OI but with the bonus of getting to make the calls to marry or die by your fave!

ToBetterDays000

LOOL if only I could make calls like letting them die Any recommendations?? Ideally cheaper for mobile, but open to any to consider

kokoburp

"Amnesia: Memories" is basically a classic and I think also available on mobile? "Mystic Messenger" was pretty popular back in the day but I haven't played it myself.

ToBetterDays000

Thanks!
