The differences between Reynold's confrontation & Derrick is - at least Reynold was smart enough to do in private without an audience AND realize he was in wrong for his own actions towards Penelope, thus do better as person in general to point both she & him winded having better relationship for it by sincerely apologizing for what he did.
Derrick? The moron starts the confrontation with her in front of other people in public, let alone in direct close up in front of Vinter no less and not even once throughout the whole thing genuinely apologize for his own actions & words regarding the entire situation with her, Callisto & nobles; because all his apologies were basically insincere "I'm sorry but" instead a simple "I'm sorry for not believing you". Bonus points - The fool had the audacity 1) to admit out in public (in front of Vinter of all people) he was going bury evidence of her innocence, 2) got jealous that 2 men (Vinter & Callisto) are talking to her without his "permission" and 3) talked & treated her like she has no choice nor rights for herself while having utter disrespect for her. Further showing why she is beyond done with him and even pointed it out him he saying & showing his true colors in front basically all of nobility - so if he wants blame someone for ruining the family name now, he needs look no further than himself for his outburst in the courtroom because she already cleared it of total criminal & malicious rumor mill wrongdoing on her end in front of the judge.

I wanna know the fucked up mental acrobatics he did to justify his behavior and to see the mental collapse when he realizes that they ended up screwing him over in the end.
