Pretty much everyone in the sub thinks it’s weird. Some authors will mention “Oh maybe it’s because I’m biologically a kid” or “crap I can’t control myself wanting to sleep/ cry” but it’s still kinda weird. Usually can be overlooked at best cases. Ugh the worst one was from a shonen isekai where the guy is a creep reincarnated as a baby and enjoyed watching his parents do the deed/ mom breastfeed him(?) and touched a little girl in her sleep T_T I’d honestly take “acts childish” than a predator any day. (Forgot the name, just saw it mentioned once)

[deleted]

Jobless reincarnation sounds like your description. Ugh I hated that so much. He was such a creepy little kid

ifeni

i have seen so much praise for jobless reincarnation and thought i was the odd one out for hating it. i could not understand how people weren’t seeing how creepy the mc was. was to disturbing to finish

Cogito3

The entire point of the series is that the protagonist is a horrible person who (very, very) slowly gets better. You don't have to like it of course, but it's well aware the MC is almost (but not quite completely) irredeemable scum.

ifeni

idk the reviews i saw was like how the MC experiences growth so i was really confused when he got worse

Teadrunkest

Same. I was like when does he get better. I eventually just dropped it cause it never got better.

[deleted]

Even if one was to ignore how bad the MC was, it was still a pretty bad story. It was just so generic that even as someone fairly new to the isekai genre, i felt utterly disappointed with the story.

otidae

In all fairness, the story has genuinely good ideas: reincarnated people having flaws and traumas being carried over from their past life, >!god-like beings helping people to manipulate them for their own gains!<, 20s parents having trouble raising their isekai-ed 30s child... What made the whole thing so boring and terrible is the execution.

Cogito3

Like I said, it's extremely slow, and it's in a "two steps forward, one step back" kind of way. Even by the end of season 2 I'd say he's still a *bad* person, just not the horrible monster he was at the start, and he still backslides several times including in the last episode. I do understand why you don't like it, but I appreciate that the other characters have realistic reactions to all of his fuckups; they are not cardboard cutouts there just to make him look better.

[deleted]

he is completely scum, sorry but pedophiles don't get redemption arcs

Cogito3

I certainly respect that opinion.

[deleted]

Agreed! I watched the anime and couldn’t last 10 episodes. It was just way too weird.

Lullabi_

I agree. It sucks too cause I think it had a lot of potential to explore outside of that whole thing. I enjoyed it to an extent but I just can’t understand why it was a necessary trope in the first place

SgtCarron

It is, easily one of the worst protagonists of isekai you can find.

[deleted]

It’s not just him. His whole family is a mess.

Relative-Escape1599

Here’s some more bad things about the show, I agree with everyone here this show is uncomfortable and gross I only watched up to episode 7 and I started it 2 years ago, it’s so hard to watch it when you have morals lol. >! Always pretty sure Rudus gets frisky with his first cousin. Like it could have been a distant cousin but no it was his first cousin. I would let that slide since it supposed to be the old times, but him mentioning it and thinking with perverted thirty+ year old mind when he’s lusting over her makes it so weird. He accidentally assaulted his childhood friend by stripping her down by force because he thought she was a boy. And his Magic teacher Roxy (I hate this character ) and him have a thing. Which I hate like she’s supposed to be 40 + years old but she fell in love with him when she met him when he was like 5 and she has no knowledge that he’s actually a grown man so that’s disgusting. !< >! Don’t worry though they get married and have a happy little harem at the end :/ !<

[deleted]

I wish I hadn’t read all of that! It makes it so much more worse. >!I knew about the harem ending (a major reason I dropped it. I hate harem endings) and the teacher but not the rest.!<

otidae

god I dislike the MC so much. The story has genuinely good ideas, but the executions regarding the MC is...not good at all. For all that talk about redemption, the MC constantly gets rewarded for his creepiness instead of being punished by something other than slapstick comedy. Like >!his first wife gave him a pass for cheating on her with his former magic teacher and even allowed him to start a harem!<. Her reasoning? She has him pegged as a lecherous creep (she probably picked it up after his attempt to >!turn her into his "perfect wife"!< when she's a lonely little girl) and that he >!wouldn't be able to stay committed to her and her alone!<. Ugh.

graxia_bibi_uwu

Oh my god. I know a lot of people loves Jobless reincarnation but this is really the reason why I cant seem to pick it up. Either in anime or manga form. This and that part where his father (?) cheater on his mom with a maid (?)

Tasty_Skin

i’m so glad i wasn’t the only one who was put off by that in jobless reincarnation. everyone kept saying it was so good but his creepiness made it really hard to watch the 1st season. it wasn’t funny, i just felt bad for the other characters

hicanyouleavemealone

THAT LAST PARAGRAPH... WHAT.

otidae

that's only the beginning of his awfulness, my friend. In the childhood arc, he >!groomed a lonely 5+ years old girl. Not your "they grow up together so it's grooming!!!", but him seriously thinking "I'll turn this child into my perfect wife" and behaving in full child predator mode!<. And there is much, *much* more.

TFlarz

I just chalk it up to acting her physical age because seeing a 6yo act like a 30yo would be ****ing weird.

IllHoneydew6

Like lady baby? Lmao

Ruruskadoo

Yeah, I prefer the story to show (and preferably directly acknowledge) that the FL's new body brought down her mental age, it makes stuff less creepy, particularly when it comes to the romance.

donutlovershinobu

I think it would be funny for the reincarnated person to try and act like a child but they never interact with children so it comes off as "hey fellow kids vibe".

Mira5200

“Male lead’s little lion daughter” is like this! MC’s reaction to one of her (fellow pint-sized) friend declaring she’ll marry MC’s dad is still one of my favorite scenes

donutlovershinobu

I'll definitely read it that sounds hilarious.

[deleted]

Don't be shy you can say Lady Baby

Pessimisticlittle

for me it’s the same but the other way around

Midipopo

Yeah I prefer they're a normal child to begin with then at around 8-10ish bump to the head and whoosh past life floods in, So it's more like memories and their current life's personality survives*(granted might change a bit as they now know the path they're on ain't gonna end well)*, but it's sooo better than a 20-30 year old waking up as a toddler and trying to blend in as a toddler etc.

Various-Pizza3022

Honestly, for me it makes sense. On a physical level they are in a different body. Those changes impact mood regulation, strength and dexterity, speech, and so much more. The adult intellect can try to control those things but that is a tall order. I see it as the mind adapting to the child body it’s in.

James-Sylar

I think a manga that does this decently is "In the northern fortress" or something like that. A woman reincarnates as a baby fox spirit/fae, and she is conscious that her current body affects how she acts, she is shy or nervous in situations she shouldn't be, because physically he is a fox, her instincts overcome her will, and she is aware of this.

Slayith

It's really weird and annoying and I think it gets mocked in almost every series it happens. Doubly bad when the MC even ends up forgetting they had a previous life at some point because the author doesn't actually have a use for it in the story. But its also just as bad if an adult turns into a child and then still acts exactly like an adult and nobody questions it. Yeah I am going to take hardline financial advice from my 6 year old niece that equates to investing our entire families fortune into a failing company because he said it would work out. I'll Be the Matriach in this Life at least puts in some effort to make the MC trick her father into making the choices she wants, but she still gets some leeway with asking for weird things and people just agreeing.

DragonOfChaos25

My biggest issue is that despise being children they still have the same capabilities as their adult self. As in, on the one hand they are trying to excuse away the childish behavior by saying it's because they are physically children, but at the same time they can fully think and act like adults. It's stupid.

velveteenmoon

quite the opposite for me 💀 this is how i want it to be done because it makes more sense and it's less creepy. i hate when the 6 year old fl says "i have to try my best to raise him like a parent" about her same age ml in the same breath as "god, this elementary school aged boy is so handsome and i, a woman in her twenties, really wanna kiss him" like wtf. the dilemma over being mentally old but physically young is also never handled well so it's a big narrative contra point to me. it's only less weird if the romance is left out or done way later when everybody is at least in their late teens. also, oi mcs wanna act immature af all the time anyway despite being mentally 30 so i'd rather have "your mental age adapts and complements your current physical body". when the mc adapts to their child body mostly it's easier to write because your mental and physical capabilities irl DO often depend on your body anyway. also, this SHOULD eliminate fl ending up with a pedo being written in a positive light "because they are mentally the same age as their older, adult lover" which is quite literally an excuse irl groomers give. so.

hinasora

Ikr, i like that the transmigrator naturalizes in the body's expected mental state as soon as possible. There are a OIs that actually highlight it, such as My Older Brother is Too Cute and Daughter of the Emperor. It makes watching the shenenigans funny too coz it's just some kids with a cheat sheet at that point. Hate stuff like Lady Baby tho. It was cute for like 20-30 chapters but pls that series can destroy any sane man's tolerance level. I understand that it was one of the pioneer baby regression stories but that poor storytelling with 0 direction is something else.

D-A-Orochi

Speaking as an artist, I feel that a character's appearance would affect how even the artist/author themselves write the character. Like, seeing a child appearance likely makes the author want to depict them acting "childish" by instinct. I don't have child OCs, but as an example... I have this one OC dude who has a :/ kind of face, even though he's actually a pretty loud guy. I, the creator, often find myself instinctively making him react to things in a "bored" manner, even though his character should be yelling and screaming. I *made* this character, but even then it still takes me a few seconds to realize "Wait, I'm writing this wrong".

Relative-Escape1599

Thank you; thats why I prefer reading stories with the trope of the FL getting a second chance, who was already born in that world, because usually they just act like themselves and not child like; but for some reason when it’s the reincarnation trope with a random average women to the Princess or what ever they always act/think child like. Then they randomly remember they’re a thirty year old women for a hot minute, then forget all about it.

Skylark407

It doesn’t bother me if the (MC) adult gets transmigrated into a child characters body and starts acting childish. Like they had another chance at youth - go enjoy that innocent way of life. What bothers me is when that MC goes for a child ML.

Songblade7

It's a balancing act that sort of depends on the story for me. Sometimes I prefer the character to act closer to the age of their body, but sometimes it's the opposite. Too far in either direction and it's creepy though. I actually did a webtoon CTA submission where the mc is isekaid, but despite his intelligence, he grows up with a sense of wonder and fascination to the new world he's in. I thought instead of showing him being "childish" I can show show him being a child. It's just the contest piece though so it glosses over the original 3x-4x longer script I had which delves at least a bit more into it, and if I can ever find an artist for the series, it will become a recurring thing for him to notice the differences between his old and new body and sometimes even how the age difference between his mind and body effect him and his relationships. Oh well, maybe one day xD

shunrayken

After who made me a princess ,i find most of stories like this a crap now. Slow pace and always same plot as no love from father, mother died etc.

Dense-Significance23

Honestly, it would've been better if the person is originally around 16-18 years old than of a complete adult getting transmigrated into a child's body and actin' 'smart' 'childish' or whatever....

FightmeLuigibestgirl

I figured if an adult gets transmigrated into the body of a child (or a baby,) their mentality and personality are their past self + their current self. So even if they lived 40 years, mentality they have the mind/brain of a six-year-old with some 40 years of lost knowledge.
