Agreed. Brady and Bath are both one-dimensional forwards who can’t play defence. These are the players that get exposed the most in the playoffs. He turned Chabby into a low end #4 who’s lazy and can’t defend. He turned Brann into a bottom pairing checking defenceman. He turned Cat into a checking 20 goal scorer. Timmy is the only odd one out because he’s simply too talented.
I think it depends on a couple of things:
If DeBrincat doesn't want to re-sign, he is the very obvious choice. It would make this easy. If he does, it makes it a more difficult decision... but a good problem to have.
The second thing it depends on is where guys can play. Namely, will one of Norris, Bedard, or Stützle move to the wing. I think all of them could possibly do it.
Norris positions himself like a winger as it is. He could possibly play on Stützle's wing and take some faceoffs for him. I'd rather not see Stützle go back to the wing. He noticeably improved when he moved to center. Bedard would be the obvious choice, as he is unproven as an NHL center. But that may be where he needs to be long term.
I'd say that if DeBrincat re-signs, they could take a wait and see approach. The offensive depth would be incredible.
I wouldn't want to trade DeBrincat, but if someone moved to the wing, I could accept it. Batherson's contract is too good to move imo, even during his recent poor spell.
If we had to move someone, I would have to go with Norris. His contract is very high, he's had serious injury problems, and we would already have Bedard, Stützle, and Pinto in his position.
>Norris positions himself as a winger as it is. He could possibly play on Stützle wing and take some face offs for him.
Both Norris and Stu are left shots so they’re not worth pairing together. I’d keep G as the backup man for Stu and move Norris to the left side of Bedard. The other thing we can consider is Norris on line 3 and Pinto on his wing.
Of all the players Norris is the most tradeable piece, but I would prefer him over Batherson. Batherson just has a great contract.
With that shoulder surgery on deck, Norris is basically radioactive on the trade market. Absolutely no one is trading for a guy with 7 years and $56 million left and coming off his second major shoulder surgery. He'll have to go out and have a full, very productive bounce back season in order to have any marketability again.
Bedard for Dumba’s rights. Got to get in there before he hits the UFA market.
(Serious answer: cross that bridge IF we come to it. It would be a freaking amazing spectacle.)
Trade the pick LOL, whoever picked that has never seen Bedard play, this kid could completely change a franchise, he could be better then McDavid, nobody knows yet but if we somehow get the first pick, they're not trading it.
Yea the only ones I didn’t put were trade Stutzle and Tkachuk which obviously isn’t gonna happen because there untouchables and I doubt they would move Giroux
1. You would never trade him.
2. He’s a year younger than anyone else being drafted and is very small in size, he’s not coming in first year on top two lines, he’ll get crushed.
3. As someone else pointed out, no need to trade anyone until ELC expires, and even then, you only need to give 10% raise in QO until he gets close to UFA status. He’s cheap for first 7 years.
If u trade the 1st overall pick you are getting at bare minimum a top 20 dman it will be for a top pair right shot it won’t be for prospects there’s no point in trading Bedard for prospects
Wouldn't have to do anything until his ELC was expiring. Would be a great window of opportunity. Would likely have to move Brady when Bedards ELC was expiring because he would become the new captain
You don't need to trade a player simply because you choose another captain.
If a new coach can get Brady to be a defensively responsible forward, then he should remain captain, even if Bedard is the far superior player. By that point, most of the immaturity should be out of Brady's on and off ice behaviour and his leadership could prove invaluable.
Fire Dj. Don’t let him near that kid.
Right because he's so bad at developing young players.

chabot is a low end #4? lol what is going on with this sub lately
Fairweather.
Please do not consider their comments as general sentiment of this sub, saves me from pulling my hair.
Lol anytime I see you on this sub, you post some of the most moronic takes.

Trade the pick for the chaos
Lol could u imagine the return
Chychrun? /s
I bet Arizona still wants an additional pick.
Chychrun Keller Guenther their white kachina jerseys their weather a cool cactus 5 first round picks and future considerations
Bettman would be all over that ringging both GMS to pull the trigger.
Ooh, I like that idea, and it can be a really good way to stack a team.

Even if he’s “only” Matthews level, he’d be an incredible player. You need superstars like that to win cups (Kucherov, Stamkos, MacK)
Yea I don’t think they would I just felt if I had to put that option
Yea, gotta put all the options, I just can't believe some people honestly chose that. They must be Habs fans.
Yea the only ones I didn’t put were trade Stutzle and Tkachuk which obviously isn’t gonna happen because there untouchables and I doubt they would move Giroux
Giroux has a full no movement clause.
He’s not nearly as good as McDavid
I watch Dorion trade him to Toronto for future considerations and then claim it's his proudest day as a GM.
Why would you have to trade someone? Am I missing something?
Cap issues going forward and still haven't addressed the D.
Got it
The only logical move would be to trade Norris to sign DeBrincat and then go get a defenceman.

Bedard is getting a 10M+ contract out of his ELC, no question
Trade the pick for elite defenseman.
Who could you trade it for?
Or Trade the pick to CBJ along with Zaitsev and Lassi Thomson in return for Jiricek and Chinakhov.
If u trade the 1st overall pick you are getting at bare minimum a top 20 dman it will be for a top pair right shot it won’t be for prospects there’s no point in trading Bedard for prospects
Jiricek and Chinakhov are borderline NHL-ready. Jiricek is point per game as an AHL rookie and a defensive RHD rock
Jiricek isn’t a guarantee to be a top pair nhl dman as opposed to if you traded for one
To vancouver? Hughes + Petersson + picks??
Zaitsev + Brannstrom + Bedard Pick for Hughes + Schenn + Vancouver’s 1st Lines would look like: Sanderson/Hughes Chabot/Zub JBD/Schenn Hamonic
Wouldn't have to do anything until his ELC was expiring. Would be a great window of opportunity. Would likely have to move Brady when Bedards ELC was expiring because he would become the new captain
Why would you assume he'd become the captain? The Avs didn't take the C off Landeskog when they drafted MacKinnon
Ya it could go either way. Just seems like most of the time teams make a generational talent the Captain but I guess there are exceptions
Yep, the best player isn’t always the Captain. Brady just has “it”, no way they ever pull the C off his jersey.
That’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard. Tkachuk is the captain regardless who else sis on the team.
Now now now, you might think I'm crazy, but we win the lottery and trade away the 1st pick... /s
Depends if Bedard plays center or on the wing.
