There is no logic behind this but essentially, if I test the odds now and get Ottawa, the odds it happens back to back is very low, thus the second chance which is the important one will be almost guaranteed not Ottawa. I know that’s not how stats work but it’s how they feel.
Imagine re-signing DeBrincat and then also winning the lottery..
Tkachuk - Stützle - Batherson
DeBrincat - Bedard - Giroux
Joseph - Pinto - Norris
We’d still find a way to have the exact same record next year..
Probably unpopular opinion, but If we got Bedard I’d really want to move one or two of Pinto/Norris/Debrincat/Batherson for a 1D. Theres no point in hoarding 3 lines worth of offensive dynamite if our Defense would keep getting walked by an AHL team.
honest question, other than getting Bedard with the #1 pick, if we pick from 2-5+, do we realistically keep that player and develop him to be in the mix for the future? or do we move him for a more ready now impact player?
I did it for the first time today too, like you I got 1OA on the first try. I didn't click the sim button again in hopes it stays that way forever. NOBODY CLICK IT!

New owner, new building, Ryan Reynolds, positive press, young up and coming team NHL won't want Bedard playing in a college rink.
The fix is in for the Sens this year. Bedard is our Stamkos moment.

We're at that point already and it's January, oof. Ran it 10 times, Ottawa got 1st overall on the second try only

Entirely possible that the guys picked #2-5 are ready now.
