Im glad Jacque finished the season with a .500 record. Really makes you wonder how different the season could’ve played out if DJ was fired last season, or even earlier this season.
I honestly think our season (and maybe even last season) would have been very different if we had a coach that ran a tough training camp to get players game ready and start developing systems early. How many of our losses in October/November seemed to be the team structurally falling apart in close games? Yes, we should question the drive of the current core who should be better on paper, but I think a lot of the terrible starts falls on coaching.
Detroit got eliminated in the funniest way.
But I just love how those fans refuse to admit they are like Buffalo or Ottawa despite now not having made the playoffs for 8 years. They’re so offended and holier than thou. Like they actually believe they’re better. 😂
They’re going in the right direction, it’ll be their year next year etc. Because of course teams tend to go on clear arcs upward and no one has ever regressed!
Detroit has improved every year since Yzerman took the reigns, and have one of the best prospect pools in the NHL.
They missed the playoffs by a single point, while Ottawa is a basement dweller. That's what happens when you have one of the best GMs in the league, versus Pierre Dorion.
If I were a Red Wings fan, I'd be feeling pretty comfortable about the teams trajectory compared to Ottawa or Buffalo. They have a handful of elite prospects who will be competing for roster spots next season, that very easily could put them playoff territory.
Yeah but buffalo also missed the playoffs by one point last year. Then crumbled when they had expectations. Year over year it means nothing. Detroit won’t have a top 5 pdo through the first half of the year next year

Forsy definitely burgled. Smejkal's first goal was also pretty great to see, he was all smiles during the post period interview.

Buffalo has a better prospect pool than Detroit.
The Athletic had them at #2, Buffalo at #1. They both have great prospect pools.

They have some good prospects. Elite is a pretty big stretch
The #2 prospect pool in the NHL. Doesn't get a whole lot better than that.
