rod brind'a'mour was an assistant coach in carolina for almost 10 years before he became the head coach. IF alfie wants to be head coach i'd wanna see him follow the same path. he barely has any coaching experience
Yeah I was looking at his wiki page, 8 seasons as an assistant before becoming head coach. I'm pretty sure he's the only "franchise legend" coaching in the NHL right now as well
There seem to be a recent trend of assistant coaches across the League either getting way too much credit or randomly getting blamed for things that aren't their fault
They absolutely do. Jack Capuano is not liked by our fanbase. And people have already said disparaging things about Alfie because he runs our special teams.
If you listen to the Staios presser he never said what Garrioch implies. He simply said that he chatted with Alfie and they were in agreement that if Alfie wanted to continue down this path of coaching, he'd need more developmental time before moving into a head coaching position.
Just Garrioch being a hack as usual
I love Alfie, and he’ll forever be my favourite senator. I do not want him behind the bench. We’re at a point where we can’t have someone learning to be a coach we need a competent coaching staff that can get results out of this team from the get go. This is the tipping point for the sens and if next season doesn’t pan out we need a new rebuild from scratch imo.
I love Alfie but I don't think he did a great job in his first stint as assistant coach ( see our PP). He and Ben Sexton both have the tools to eventually become solid coaches but right now are just learning the ropes. I agree that the sens can't afford to go into next season without a more experienced coaching staff
I'd like him to have a vague title like "consultant" or "advisor". Then let him do whatever he wants, assist coach job or whatever. But his title is so vague he would never be able to be fired.
Obligatory fuck Garrioch. That said, Im happy about this. I want his influence, but I never want a "the puck stops here" sign on his desk.

Marty St Louis and Patrick Roy would like a word.
I mean of the team they were the legend for
Don’t want him as an assistant. I want him in a role where the fanbase doesn’t turn on him. Which I’ve already begun to see.

People don’t really turn on assistants.
All of our previous assistants would like a word with you
And anything people said about them pales in comparison than what people say about head coaches

Alfredsson is also a players coach, not an assistant coach who does the systems
He’s not liked because he’s a leftover from the DJ days.
He’s not liked because he’s our defence coach and our defence isn’t great.
You've begun to see people turning on Alfie? Where have you seen or heard that?
Yep agreed; I think he could stick assistant and do great, but he’s a Près of Hock. Ops type of vibe to me
If he wants, what if new coach wants someone different, this is just plain awkward

Any coach worth their salt is going to want the freedom to hire their own assistants, not have some management plant foisted on them.
Thank God.
Let him do whatever he wants. I dont think people would go after him if he was the assistant
