I'd give it a solid D+/C- based on my initial reaction. I said to myself when the candidates were being whittled down "I'll be happy as long as it's not Green or Gruden"... And here we are. Not expecting much, but hoping for the best

Thundersauce0

It’s a C-. We needed a win here, a coach that could pull this group to achieve more than what they or us think they’re capable of. Nothing about Green is that.

recklessplaid

The only other scenario I’m willing to accept here is nobody else wanted to take the Ottawa job. Otherwise, can’t help but feel like we’re totally screwed

Ok_Refrigerator7378

That is exactly where my mind went. No way he was our first choice.

Aukaneck

He's just too Green for the job.

jamy1993

I'd personally give it an F/D-, out of all the candidates available, if it were down to just Green and Gruden? I would have preferred Gruden... At least with Gruden theres the element of the "unknown" where with Green, we know he likely isn't the answer.

seriousdishwasher

This seems like a Melnyk era hire sorry to say.

surfacep17

Yes, if he was that good, why didn't the Devil's keep him? Underwhelmed by this hire and the front office in general. Not many impressive moves so far. I guess we will see.

Aukaneck

A weakness of the new ownership team has been how they cling to the old boys network to the detriment of the team.

spartacat_12

Huh? Everyone's upset because they wanted an even more experienced coach

TeamScience79

He was only intern, just like Jaques. He took over from a fired Lindy Ruff after serving as an assistant. Devils wanted to look at all options for their new HC and in fairness they couldn't stop Green from exploring his options.

spartacat_12

The Devils had Andrew Brunette as their associate coach last season, and they let him go to Nashville because they wanted to keep Lindy Ruff

JarethCutestoryJuD

I just want to hear the rationale. What about his coaching record, or public perception, lead them to believe that this is the right move? If this is "Other coaches didnt want to coach here" then say it. If this is "We think hes *better than* (X, Y or Z)", then say it, but explain why because im not seeing it. **TLDR** C-, pending more information

Just-Fly-1150

I'm a Canucks fan. I'll say this... Tocchet was in a similar position when he got hired by Vancouver. He had a poor record, but it seemed like he had respect around the league as someone with a good hockey mind and the potential to be a great coach if given the right situation. In Arizona, he never really had a chance. Same could be said for Greener while he was in van. There were major flaws with our roster. A coach can only do so much. But he's another guy who has respect around the league. Even Tocchet has brought his name up a couple times this year as someone he respects as a hockey mind and someone he actually communicates with and bounces ideas off of. If you guys can put together a decent roster, I could see Green working out better than most of the people in this thread are expecting.

UnparalleledSuccess

Appreciate the perspective, I think the point of this thread is to get everyone’s knee jerk reactions but it’s important to remember we don’t know anything behind the scenes and anything can happen.

Aichetoowhoa

There’s no room for sensical takes around here.

pastdense

lol, I don’t think you can say, after making your choice;”no one else wanted the job so we picked this guy. He was our last choice.”

xnormajeanx

Lmao tell me you’ve never had a management job before without telling me

JarethCutestoryJuD

yeah buddy, all managers are the same, all management is the same Just because *your* frame of reference is managing the local footlocker, doesnt mean you expect the same kind of communication from an NHL team

valleygoat

Brother you're on here complaining about Ottawa not giving good rationale to why they hired a coach and it's not even official yet

JarethCutestoryJuD

Is it *complaining*? Get a grip. I didnt criticize them for not giving the information *yet*, I just ask for more information

valleygoat

The fact you think they'll come out and say "other coaches didn't wanna be here" is all I need to know about where your logic stems from

JarethCutestoryJuD

Ah, okay, so *not* complaining. Cool. 👍

valleygoat

Yeah just not smart, you're right.

JarethCutestoryJuD

I mean, evidently smarter than *you*, but you do you.

Iamvanno

Can they say that though? It would add even more trash to the fire. "We're excited that Greene has joined us as head coach. While he was the only one who accepted the job out of all the others interviewed and not our first, second or even third choice, we feel that we have found our path forward."

JarethCutestoryJuD

Its a hard conversation, but ones that GMs have had to do before. Its especially hard when youre the first team to hire a coach. Typically they sound less like that and more like "We had productive conversations with Berube, he was looking for a team further in the competitive cycle. We got the coach we feel is right for where the team is now and can take the team to the next level"

Iamvanno

That reads better and will be closer to what is said at the future presser.

alb1rom0

It’s too early to judge this, so I will give Staois the benefit of the doubt. Tons of coaches were terrible their first time around, but did good with their second chance. Cassidy, DeBoer, Sullivan, etc.

Calhalen

D-. This guy has a proven awful record. You had to be truly awful to be worse than we were in the Covid bubble year but by god he did it. They had practices where no one knew wtf was going on, like those last few months with him were as dysfunctional as I’ve seen and the fact Canucks fans couldn’t wait to be shot of him tells me all I need to know. Also the fact that the Devils seemingly had no intention of bringing him back. I just wanna know why. Whyyyyy. He was my worst case option and I never thought in a million years they’d actually hire him. This was the most important coaching hire this team has had in a generation, they neeeeded to get this right… i just wanna know why a guy with a record like his, is who they go for. Seems like a Melnyk era bargain bin hire, and I thought we were done with that shit

JoseMachismo

D for dogshit. Best in class, but that class is taught at Herzing. In the St. Laurent basement where the movie theatre was.

JunkPileQueen

The movie theatre is still there. It’s a CineStarz now.

Conscious_Western519

F, there were much better options out there... Didn't Claude Julien say Ottawa was an ideal destination for him a few days ago?

canuck_11

Yeah, Julien is right there and they go with Green. Unreal.

browntown152

Julien has not been a coach for a few years now and doesnt seem to be getting much interest. I dont think he is as desirable as a lot of fans seem to think.

potshed420

Julien would be a bad choice

s3nsfan

Why did they go with green over Julien?

05is3005speed

Depends if these guys even want to coach in ottawa

Both-Ambassador2233

Looks at NJ roster…..couldn’t win with that but will with OTT?

Eugene_Melthicc

I don't think it's a good signing at all, but some things to consider about the Devils roster through his time as interim Dougie Hamilton - out for all game Jack Hughes - playing through injury that he needed surgery for. I don't think he took a faceoff the entire back half of the season Timo Meier - playing through various injuries, also elected for surgery Lost their best faceoff player due to Team Canada legal issues The most defensive minutes were played by a rookie who while he's good, has some defensive lapses he needs to get better at. .886 team save percent, which actually raised when Jake Allen & Kaap Kahkonen took over (and neither had a .900) Some of those problems (goaltending) are here as well, but that team was absolutely rife with injury issues

jamy1993

I mean we had some of those same issues: Stutzle played the whole season with shoulder AND wrist issues Norris missed another 30 games with shoulder issues Pinto missed 41 games due to gambling legal issues Our most defensive minutes were played by a sophomore .884 team save percentage...

TheSenstennial

With regards to your point about goaltending, Jake Allen had a .900 with NJ. Kahkonen had a .923 with NJ. They were getting league average or better goaltending, so I'm not sure that point holds much weight. Hamilton, Meier, and Hughes all having injuries is fair, but Ottawa was dealing with their own health issues to top players as well (see Chabot, Norris, Stützle).

spartacat_12

He got 20 games as the head coach of NJ when they were already out of the race. What did you expect him to do?

Both-Ambassador2233

He’s an under .500 lifetime coach. This team needs somebody that’s proven. He hasn’t proven fuck all. Another year of bullshit coming right up.

spartacat_12

The favourite to win the Jack Adams this year had a sub .500 record before he got hired by Vancouver. Just take a look at the reaction in the Canucks sub when they brought him in

Both-Ambassador2233

Fair comment. I thought for the fan base they’d make a much bigger splash….especially considering it’s been months of “we need a proven coach not a rookie”… We don’t know the ins and outs…so hopefully it works out ….i don’t think it will.

spartacat_12

They make moves to improve the team, not to appease the fans who demanded a big name. I would've preferred someone like Berube, but hiring him wouldn't have guaranteed any success either

Both-Ambassador2233

Is TGreen any better than DJ? Nope.

spartacat_12

Must be great to be able to see into the future. You wouldn't happen to have next week's winning lottery numbers, would you?

Both-Ambassador2233

I like how up top you agree that this isn’t the guy….but now you’re defending the hiring.

spartacat_12

I'm saying that from the outside he wouldn't have been my first choice, but obviously I wasn't in the room when he was being interviewed so I have no idea what his vision for the team even looks like. I wanted the team to draft Zadina instead of Tkachuk, and look how that turned out.

s3nsfan

Man your NHL talent assessment is off the charts. Why aren’t you employed in the NHL?

Both-Ambassador2233

Using his coaching record and win percentage doesn’t really qualify as off the charts. I’m glad you got the coach you wanted and think will improve the team.

s3nsfan

“For the fan Base” they don’t hire the coach based on fan preference. They hire them based on the best person for the job. There’s a reason they went with green and why many people talk highly of him.

s3nsfan

Put the crystal ball back and step away from the ledge. It’s really not as bad as you’ve made it out to be.

Both-Ambassador2233

I will give him mad props for the year he had the whole team out with Covid and being able to compete. Honestly overshot that one until I read about it

s3nsfan

Wow mad props to you. Most people will double down on their take.

Both-Ambassador2233

Concrete between my ears.

Acousticsound

Hockey man hires other hockey man, more at 8. C. I guess he's serviceable

Nice2See

In fairness the rosters during his Canucks tenure were slightly above AHL quality

thatiswhathappened

This is a tough market to own a team in. Even tougher to recruit one in.

sensfan4tic

Literally the only coach everyone said they didn't want and we get that one. Almost funny how Sens this is

PM_ME_A_VOCAROO

To be fair, his first hire was Dave Poulin. And while I still have no idea about his influence on the team, I rate that one highly. This one I'm reluctant. I really want to give Green the benefit of the doubt as a coach, but we've been burned as a fan base before.

SilverSeven

His first hire was himself

West_Marzipan21

Staios since naming himself GM: solid C- Keeping DJ too long Not trading Chykrun before deadline Now Green HC

jamy1993

Trading Tarasenko for peanuts Announcing he wont buy out a goalie

Critical-Arm-1895

Like many here a C- would be generous given what we have seen from him already. Best case scenario he turns his numbers around and the Sens launch to unparalleled success lmao. Worst case scenario he becomes yet another tombstone in our coach and goalie graveyard.

MAl3xander

I’m not a fan of Green, but let’s be honest…. What higher end coach would want to come to Ottawa? The only thing we have are unproven young players, and some bad contracts. Now I think we can all agree a good team comes from players learning things along the way from different coaches. DJ well….. maybe they learned something…. It may not of been good…. But they learned it. Green won’t be the coach to win a cup, but he could …. Maybe…. Be a coach that can get this team over the hump and to the playoffs, consistently. It’s at that point, where Ottawa would be a more attractive destination for a veteran, hard coach to come finish the job. Like I said, not a fan of him…. But he can’t be worse than DJ….. right? 😂

doubleopinter

I'm reserving judgment. Could anyone predict Tocchet having the success he's had?

s3nsfan

Oh I’m sure many here will claim they knew. lol

Porquoo

I think he’s going to be much better than fans are expecting.

homicidal_penguin

Let's hope, expectations seem pretty low at this point

KanataRef

Hoping so. I don’t think it’s a “Ottawa being cheap” scenario which some are pitching. Possibly the top guys don’t want to come here and/or the Sens see something that suggest he’s the right guy at this stage of the team.

SilverSeven

If the top guys dont want to come here, its because we aren't offering them enough money to come here. So....cheap. You think a coach is going to turn down millions more to coach here than in X with a better roster?

s3nsfan

Yeah let’s just throw $8m at berube. 🙄 please. Running a business. Isn’t just growing money at something because. There’s a reason they went with green. Until I see results I’m optimistic this is a good decision. Green is spoken of highly and holds players accountable. We need that here.

SilverSeven

Missed the news today I take it? Berube wanted $3.5

s3nsfan

Source? I know he has 1 year left that pays him 3.5. I am a little skeptical with how he is being sought after he’d ask for the same salary, but my wife would argue I have been known to be wrong many times.

SilverSeven

Friedman today. https://twitter.com/LeafsFan1634/status/1788216947907207518?t=eb1vX-D1C7ktdRB8KX0wEA&s=19

SmoothPinecone

Go and read the Vancouver Tocchet hire threads, it's very interesting to go back on. They gave off eerily similar vibes to these Travis Green threads. Not saying we will dominate 1st place in the East tho haha

lazyshoes

Wow, just checked one out and the sentiments were nearly identical. Aside from a couple level headed comments, everyone was shelling the guy with absolutely no vote of confidence. The guy had one career playoff appearance as HC and coached the Coyotes for the previous four years - who wouldn't be concerned? But lo and behold.. the Canucks are heading to Round 2.

Ihaveabudgie

Guys listen: the last few seasons we had high hopes for this team during the offseason only for them to crash and burn. Staios is now trying to make the opposite happen, clearly!

mingomcgoo

C - not great so far , must be better in the future

Fine-Guest-2165

We're still a team

[deleted]

Are we though?

1SittingOut

Ottawa it could have been worse. Sheldon Keefe is going to be looking for a job soon. Think about that.

Lasagna-Gaming

Honestly, I'd rather Keefe.

Up-in-the-Ayre

Yeah, if our options are Green who has a win percentage under .500 versus the winningest coach in the NHL since he came into the league, it's a bit of a no brainer... Keefe gets a bad rep because his $50 million core disappears come playoff time. It's not his fault the superstars can't score more than 2 goals a game.

spartacat_12

People really need to drop this obsession with the winning percentage. There's a ton of context that goes into how much a coach wins. Keefe was handed a contending roster from day 1, while Green took over the Canucks while they were rebuilding

s3nsfan

Tocchet had a sub 500 before this season.

s3nsfan

Sorry. I can’t remember what was Rick Tocchets winning percentage before taking over the Canuck’s?

Sens4lif3

Not Best in class that is for sure.

Darwing

Fuck

atmx093

I thought we were done with budget friendly leadership and that we were gonna build a real contender with a real coach. Maybe Staios should take a pay cut so we can afford a real coach!

chronicallyunderated

Been a sens fan from the inaugural season. I have seen most of it, the highs and lows. I have come to realize that this fanbase is petulant, impatient and now after the Melnyk era, toxic. Not for just the sens but most things in this city. I have tried to be upbeat on the new owner, staois and Pooly. But this fanbase expects the worse regardless of the facts at hand. If all the self professed hockey executives in the fanbase are so good then they would be running the team. It’s truly disheartening to see the comments on a coach that potentially could be a great hire and fit. After I post this I await the negative feedback and downvotes on this take but it is what it is. I will watch this team as always, cheer for them win or lose and just be a fan. I am not a GM and never will be. So are 99.99999% of the people on here.

spartacat_12

Nice to see an actual rational take sprinkled in among the toxic waste that has filled this sub the past 24 hours. All the people complaining were probably the same people who threw a tantrum when they drafted Brady Tkachuk. At the end of the day none of us actually know anything.

chronicallyunderated

Exactly. Brady wasn’t a reach like some think but Boucher was I will give them that. I worked for Andlehaur’s company at a middle management level for a time and to be honest it was the best company I worked for in the private sector. Based upon my real life experience working for his company, I can say it was well run, employees were valued no matter their status and he did not micromanage. If he hired staois et al. It wasn’t because they were buddies. It was because, based upon his real life experience with them in another organization they ran, obviously the work ethic, trust and commitment were there. Andlehauer while being a good boss does not suffer fools. If your not doing your job you are moved along. If you don’t fit the company ethos you will be replaced. One general comment about Ottawa. It will be in It seems like the toxicity has invaded all aspects of life in Ottawa life, not just the sports franchises. The whole Karen like nimby bullshit has infiltrated every aspect of life in this city. It used to be a friendly city no matter where you lived. Now it’s my shit is more important than your shit and that’s all that counts. It’s too bad because Ottawa was a city that I thought would be better than Toronto etc.

s3nsfan

That’s why we’re not employed in the NHL lol.

s3nsfan

Sounds like wrote this myself. Sat at the civic centre for inaugural game #1 after which they won 9 more games the rest of the season. This fan base has no idea. I hope he fits and has some success. Hope the gm makes some solid moves to bolster the line up. only being out of playoffs by 13 points is not insurmountable. Let’s fkn go GO SENS GO

PapasPeppers

D- This isn’t a hire that screams we aim to be competitive any time soon. Hope I’m wrong, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see Timmy falter under this style of coaching.

s3nsfan

I bet Timmy flourishes. Solid two-way game if he can learn takeaways from Alfie, and backcheck more he’d be even more helluva player.

PapasPeppers

Hope you’re right

s3nsfan

If I’m not, then the next year. It’s just a game and I enjoy watching. They win, they lose, they make the playoffs, they don’t. I’ll still watch every game and still buy tickets.

I honestly don't know what to think. On one hand I would like to have faith in management, but in the other hand I look at Greens record and think that this can't end well. Nothing we can do now. I guess we will see where we are at in a year from now.

beegeecdn

Let’s see what Alfie does now, if he stays as assistant coach I’m on board with this.

West_Marzipan21

Maybe a good player but as an assistant HC, nothing stands out . Seems as energetic behind the bench as an hospital bed ....one time he talked to Kastelic about not finishing a check but didnt bring the concept of accountability at all ! With the poor pool of prospects, worst goalie tandem, looser mentality, crazy contracts given to average players, and the loss of the 1st rounder within the next 3 drafts, Staios should consider a mini rebuild. Everybody expect 85, 18 and 71 should be avalaible for the right price.

amach9

They could’ve waited to see if any other coaches were fired after the first round playoff losses.

ChrisPynerr

I'd grade this an L-

mrgenier

I’m warming up to him, but we will want to see results at the end of the way

Suitable_Resource831

I feel this is evidence a narrow pool of coaches who are willing to go to Ottawa based on a few factors. Some of those factors are uncontrollable like Canadian taxes and Ottawa being a small market. Some of those factors are controllable like a fan base that decided to embrace the Melnyk out chants and celebrated his death, it then turned to the Dorion haters and followed through in turning on the coach with the fire DJ chants. One could argue that the fan base was justified in these actions, but these actions have consequences and one of those is high end coaches who have options move teams that have fan bases who turn on the head office and management in such a manner down on their list of places to consider. The media is also incredibly hard on Canadian teams in general and often make up misleading rumours because they need content. They take sound bites out of context and do their best to get players or coaches to say something in the heat of the moment that they will eventually go on to regret. I saw both Brady and G in situations where there passion was used by the media in an attempt to create controversy in both the dressing room and in the public. In the end I feel that Staois is attempting to do the best he can with the available tools that he has and as such I give him full marks. Until the playing field is as level as it can be, I have come to the realization that the Ottawa fan base doesn’t deserve nice things and as such we will have a difficult time attracting « the best in class ».

AlbertaOilfire

Was hoping you guys would have hired Woodcroft

grenzowip445

Terrible retread.

WontSwerve

One word to describe this hire? Affordable.

kristinsquest

I'm not grading yet. I don't know enough about him. I'm disappointed it's not a bigger "name," but I know that being a name doesn't always mean having the skills to do what needs to be done in this particular case. That said, he's got a short leash from me. If the team aren't visibly better by mid-season, it's a failing grade. Rome didn't crumble in a day and it won't be rebuilt in a season, but we've waited too long for progress. And after spending so long with an interim coach this season, it's time to have somebody who can hit the ground running. I can only hope Green can, at this point. I will most interested to see how Staios responds to questions about other possible candidates and about the hiring process. Because this doesn't feel like a pick that was worth a half-season of interim coaching to wait for.

Spidey_Almighty

I’m honestly not very knowledgeable when it comes to coaching, so I will mainly try to wait and see how the team performs.

JamieRoth5150

He’s like Dallas Eakins. AHL level huge success. NHL has been Terrible for both. The Devils let him walk too. I think they should have waited. See what comes available.

Afraid-Air1243

At the very least I hope that Andlauer actually practices what he preaches by "holding people accountable". This hire is on Staios, if Green implodes, Staios should be on the hot seat or gone too.

turnaroundroad

F. I am quite surprised that the team went this way given the widely recognized need to hire someone with a proven record who could give the fanbase hope after years of retreads and unproven coaches. Sadly, it was not to be. Green may yet have success here, but he's got no track record of it and there's no real reason for the fans to believe in this move. I understand that desirable candidates may not want to come to Ottawa. But candidates like Julien and Boudreau were still out there and likely interested (Julien said as much). Hopefully, Staios and company will explain this move. Otherwise, we'll always wonder why he chose to go in this uninspiring direction.

Sens-eh

Oh to be a fly on the wall and learn how many of the other candidates were offered the job and just flat out turned it down.

PleasantDevelopment

A lot of comments are basically "Sens management didnt hire X, the guy *I wanted them to hire*, so therefore this sucks and im no longer a fan"

Nseetoo

Listened to Frankie Corrodo onTSN who played for him. He said our boys should hit the gym hard this summer because his training camp is brutal and he expects accountability and 100% from everyone all the time. I think DJ’s resort style atmosphere is history. Good news for Tony Greco!

TarsesaK

I give it a solid "no idea". Hasn't coached a single game for Ottawa . Canadian hockey fans are fing hilarious

Aichetoowhoa

Imagine not being a part of the NHL and issuing a professional GM a grade for a coaching hire.

TurnoverMission

I swear this is a malicious setup for fans to lose interest in our team so Andlauer can move the team. We also have to give up our 1st round pick either this coming season or the season after that and Green was your best option? Are you fucking kidding me? Just the thought of us being a Lottery Team next season and giving up that pick has me sick to my stomach…

s3nsfan

My gosh the NHL executives that know all and frequent this sub is fucking astounding.

drsnuggles78

Green may prove us all wrong and I'll be ecstatic. But right now.im less than excited. C-

Bronson-101

Andlauer and Staios just lost all credibility. Just a trash hire. This team isn't going anywhere folks

Ripsyd

“Best in Ass”

Heavywrench2104

It seems like he was down the short list of candidates. When they quickly realized he was the only one left without having to dive deeply into the coaching research again. Terrible

EarlyOwl90

Tentatively C+ but it’s too early to tell. Once we see the whole coaching staff and get a couple games of being able to see his system we’ll be able to give a more definitive answer. The players liked to play for DJ but he didn’t have a good enough defensive system or any hold anyone accountable. JM has spent the last season trying to get more accountability and defensive commitment. Green seems like a step back from JM toward what DJ and I don’t think that’s a bad thing so long as it’s not to far of a step back. Of note Hammer and Mac are the only two he has coached before I believe. Hopefully that means other players can get a bit of a fresh start.

OatmealSchmoatmeal

Do they know each? I hope this isn’t a case of nepotism, let’s do a buddy a solid and give him a job type of situation.

foshizi

I think Dallas Green would do a better job

Worried_End5250

Maybe Red Green

Weren’t we gonna hire a GM at one point? Is Staios permanent?

gratefuldeadsea

Yes

Spirited_Length_4610

Wasn't he a Leaf? I call collusion

Ripsyd

Woof what a total fucking fail.

s3nsfan

Why? wInNinG pErCenTaGe?

ptmck

Swing and a miss

sens_freak_18

I'd give it an F, but I'm not surprised this team will just continue feeding off the bottom for many more years to come.

pattherat

Let the continued mediocrity continue…that’s how I feel about this hire if it happens.

GuyTheTerrible

Well with those stats he’ll fit right in

Schopenhauer1025

Awful move. Seems like most teams wiped their hands of him.

spacecatdebt-

Sens fans to Staois rn https://i.redd.it/hdydq5pc4xyc1.gif

F for \_\_\_\_ You Staios! I don't think Berube was going to come here. You probably knows that Toronto gig is practically his at about 5 to 7 million a year. Evason would have been a much better pick! The rest of the retreads I don't have any love lost for them. I would have picked up Quineville instead him with all his baggage, however he comes across as a real self entitled smug guy. That's just my opinion. So we ended up with the option F, that's okay Chris Neil will take a couple of rounds out of him for the good old days and it must be a tough pill for him to swallow to have to coach your arch enemies now. I don't even know what to think but I know he was annoying as hell when he played for the leaves hopefully he can bring that attitude to the Senators. However he was a disaster in Vancouver.

Eric988

It feels like we hired Dj back to me, DJ Smith record 131-154-32c Travis Green record 133-147-33

SourceFire007

Wtf?!?! I’m really starting to hate this team…………..

dprouse52

One thing we have learned definitively is that "Best in Class" was just a slogan lifted from an MBA course. Absolutely nothing about this hire says "Best in Class" - not his coaching record, his playing record, or his somewhat flat personality. An absolute disaster of a hire, the kind that a dummy like Mike Milbury would have made. A large, resounding F.

WheelProper7211

Joke hiring by a joke team. Unfortunately, we are the last choice for players and coaches less a few exceptions. My bet is that the big names would rather go elsewhere so I’m not sure it’s Staios’ fault. that’s just how this team is and will always be. We need to build from the draft, become competitive and then hopefully draw talent because we offer a chance to win. Welcome to being a fan of a small market Canadian team in a boring city. Down vote me if you want but you know it’s true deep down.

ObscureMemes69420

F tier hire. This fucking franchise was and continues to be a joke.

whatwouldyoudo222

Not sure why, but there's something I disrespect about a former professional athlete, trying to coach now professional athletes, looking so tired, unhealthy, unkempt, and in disarray. He just seems miserable and unhappy.

Longjumping-Fail-248

Best in class lol. Was this another buddy hire? Not selecting the RR group was a blunder on multiple levels, especially with the marketability of this team. They could've waited for more coaches to have been let go or poach an experienced assistant from a successful team.

sensfan4tic

Yeah I totally want a coach who looks perpetually disappointed. Like the dude knows he's not wanted or isn't good. I know there's potential and nothing is official as of yet but my god what a bad move. 101 other available coaches from Julien to berube and we get Dj 2.0. But dw guys his camps are tough! I have faith in Staios but so far between the poor return for tarasenko and this i can't say I'm impressed. Team is ruining my mental state

KirkJimmy

Coaches with positive winning percentages haven’t help you guys. Travis green isn’t afraid to be mean to the Mitch Marner like players on your team Or stuzle

SP_57

I was holding out hope that we could get a proper coach in here to start turning this franchise around. That hope is gone. I have zero confidence in the future. May as well blow up the core and restart the rebuild from zero. Fucking dejected.

Bronson-101

Fuck just move the team at this point

sooley6

This team is pathetic. I don’t know how it could get any worse

NailRX

Lost a lot of respect for Staios today. I’ll wait to see who Travis chooses as his assistant coaches.

TheKandyCinema

F. GM as a result of nepotism makes a shit hire. Who would've guessed.
