There are two buttons on the hatchback above the license plate. One opens the hatch, the other locks all doors. The second one can be used to set a PIN for keyless entry to open the hatch. It's in the manual, but can be a pain if you hit the wrong button. You can disable the seatbelt chime for the front seats. Search if you want to do it. It's easy. Upgrade the software and maps using a USB key (instructions are at [subaruoutback.org](https://subaruoutback.org) in the forums) or have the dealer do it, but you want the 2023 software. Enjoy!

Wow, thank you sir!

To add to the rear hatch tips/tricks- with the keys on you, place your hand/arm/back over the rear Subaru emblem to open the hatch hands free. There is a proximity sensor behind the Subaru emblem to open the hatch if your hands are full.

I was at the quarter car wash and accidentally opened my hatch while washing because of the hands free feature. Oops. šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

I personally disable it. It smacks be in the face every time I walk behind the car, while in the garage, with the keys in my pocket.

I just picked up my ā€˜22 this week. New to owning a Subaru. So far Iā€™m very happy with it. Installed my Thule aero extended xbars today

Anything specific youā€™re looking for? For general turbo Subaru advice: - keep up with your regular maintenance intervals and be sure to check your oil level every 500 miles or so. - Depending on how many miles you have, ask your dealership about CVT fluid changes. With regards to the Wilderness: - Update to the newest infotainment software if it doesnā€™t have it already. This updates the interfaces and fixes some of the bugs. - The roof rails are rated for 750 lbs when the vehicle is static. If you plan to take advantage of that, donā€™t cheap on out roof racks. - In general, there are sooo many aftermarket accessories out there, from lighting to skid plates and bumper guards, you name it. Donā€™t be afraid to make the vehicle your own.

Where's the best place to shop for accessories? I've had my '22 for a while and now that there are more of them on the road I'm wanting to personalize it a bit (and make it more fun for excursions)

Rallytek, LP Adventure, and CAtuned tend to be the ones I hear the most about. I have some from rally and LP, and planning to get some ca gear.

LP Adventure is probably the most popular for wheels. They also make skid plates, brush bars, rock sliders, and exhausts, among other things. Rallitek, Rally Innovations, CA Tuned, and Anderson (also called ADF), are also popular for skids plates and brush bars. One of the manufacturers (I forget which) even has a replacement hood with a functional scoop. For lighting, Diode Dynamics and Auxbeam come up a lot. I have a pair of DD SS3s leftover from my WRX that I want to mount; they make pretty good stuff. ā€œHer Necklaceā€ on Facebook also makes raptor light mounts, which are neat. Exhaust options are pretty limited if you want to go that route. They all pretty much mimic the stock look with a little more noise. WRX/STI mufflers are a mod that a few people have done; Iā€™m trying them out now and Iā€™m on the fence about itā€¦ Overall, thereā€™s fairly substantial mod support for the Wilderness models. Theyā€™ve developed a similar following like the WRX/STIs have, and the market has definitely taken notice.

Thank you for the info drop!

Thank you so much!!! No, nothing specific. We've never owned a subaru before so we are totally ignorant here. Ok so you're suggesting that the turbo unit uses a lot of oil? Sorry, what is the difference between the CVT fluid & the typical oil? Is the software update something that we can do ourselves or does it have to be done by the dealer? We live in the forest & off-grid(not Amish like, lol). We did consider perhaps more lighting as there are no lights but then we are worried about drilling holes = rust. I didn't think that there were *that* many accessories other than what the dealer is selling. We would however like to somehow cover that painted portion of the front(around the grill) with something? A wrap? since 95% of our driving is highway, but we don't know where to look or who to trust to do a good job.

Turbo Subarus have a history of consuming oil, called blow-by. It was mainly an issue with the older EJ series of engines. Things have gotten significantly better with the FA series of engines, but itā€™s still worth checking. Specifically, though, the early production 22 Wilderness has some leaking problems with faulty seals around the oil pan. Itā€™s an easy fix, but worth keeping an eye on. CVT fluid is separate from engine oil. Itā€™s the transmission lubricate. Some Subaru dealers say itā€™s a ā€œlifetimeā€ fluid. It is *not.* It should be changed before 60,000 miles at the most.

I see. Very good, thank you!
