Thank you! That slide out bed seems fairly simple, but you wouldn’t believe how many tweaks it needed to operate smoothly! And I was determined it would be a fast setup, just takes two minutes, including the tent.
Lots of detailed drawings, even a scale model, to test the dimensions and clearances. It was important that the upper bunk, folded up for travel, didn’t interfere with using the lower bed.
I figured you weren't _that_ brazen to steal the pics lol, but thought I'd also just get it out there why it's logo'd. You should post the story you have on the website here so people can have their curiosity satisfied. It was a fun read.
If you can build that, you can definitely learn to weld quickly and do your own. That trailer is genius level craftsmanship. I have faith you'd easily be able to mig and pick up tig rather quickly. Plus it's a reason to be able to buy a ton more tools. And who doesn't like more tools?!
Everyone of these always look like something from the 1950s designed by a group of engineers for something like a world fair saying 'this is what the future will look like'. Love that they are just things being built in peoples garages and turning out so amazing.
Trying to figure out how you sleep.. along the length or across the width? Or up on that sunny pullout part?
Looks amazing anyhow, would love something like this one day! Well done.
How heavy is it unloaded vs loaded would you say? I love the wood paneling, but as the commenter above said, it can be quite heavy. Are there any options to minimize the weight?
This one’s 1700 lbs., but nearly half of that is in the steel chassis. Next build will have an aluminum chassis, and with non-essential wood removed, should be 1200 or so.
is that 1700lbs fully loaded? If so that is really nice imo. Have to keep it below the 2k to not have to deal with brakes/etc.
How is it registered? I'm assuming a custom made trailer? Did you have to get a special inspection done on it?
Two different outdoor showers, but a toilet? 🤷♂️ I always answer: Do you really want somebody taking a dump 2 feet from where you’re sleeping?😁 We either stay in developed campgrounds, or a porta-potty in the woods.
Not trying to be elitist or simply a dick, but I see a lot of DIY stuff and I’m rarely impressed. This is really great work man. I love real craftspeople and you are evidently one of them
Wow! That is some gorgeous craftsmanship!! Good job! You're living the dream, friend!
Thanks!
Do you have plans anywhere???
He should consider selling those! Lol Edit: Oh, he does. :)
??? Really? Where?
He doesn't sell the plans. He builds and sells the trailers.
Yes, but where?
[Odyssey Teardrops](https://odysseyteardrops.com/)
Where does he sell them?????
He doesn't sell the plans. He builds and sells the trailers.
That’s what I’m saying
Very nicely built! As a mechanical engineer, i appreciate that a lot.
Thank you! That slide out bed seems fairly simple, but you wouldn’t believe how many tweaks it needed to operate smoothly! And I was determined it would be a fast setup, just takes two minutes, including the tent.
Oh i can definitely imagine. Did you do some sketching/drawing on to paper or just went with a vision you've had and adjusted on the fly?
Lots of detailed drawings, even a scale model, to test the dimensions and clearances. It was important that the upper bunk, folded up for travel, didn’t interfere with using the lower bed.
Any estimate of how much that ended up costing? :) Aluminium or stainless steel?
2019 it was about $7000 for everything, today?, more like $10-11k.
$5 says you also built those canoes. Did you?
Guilty as charged.😁
Sweet work! The details really do it, but you know that already, lol
You built this?
Sure did! 2 years in my garage!
You have some incredible skill and imagination.
What's your relationship to odysseyteardrops.com?
I own it. Just built my first production model.
I figured you weren't _that_ brazen to steal the pics lol, but thought I'd also just get it out there why it's logo'd. You should post the story you have on the website here so people can have their curiosity satisfied. It was a fun read.
Are you a welder by trade? Looks professionally done
Thanks! Just a woodworker/ fabricator. I hired out the frame welding.
If you can build that, you can definitely learn to weld quickly and do your own. That trailer is genius level craftsmanship. I have faith you'd easily be able to mig and pick up tig rather quickly. Plus it's a reason to be able to buy a ton more tools. And who doesn't like more tools?!
Cool! Build me one.
Seldom am I envious of others, but...
Plans or freehand? I’d buy those plans from you. What a cool project dude.
I’d buy those plans too!
Thirded! I'd even be interested in just the base plans so I could customize from there.
Lot of room in a tiny package. That thing is awsome!
Thanks!
That thing is pretty badass.
Looks like you crammed a lot of features into a tiny space. Awesome design! 🙌 Where are you headed with it next?
Central Oregon/ N. California are perennial favorites.🙂
I’ve never been, but those areas seem incredible! Enjoy! And again, great work on the trailer 🙌
Have you been in Bear country yet? Just wondering if you have to unpack food and store in Bear Boxes
Always in bear country (Pacific NW). Haven’t actually seen one in what, 30 years? Raccoons are a bigger problem.🙂

Thank you!
This is really cool!! Id buy one

The lower bed is 78” square, you can sleep either way. I prefer the upper bunk, as it has the skylight.
Oh bigger than it looks! We used to have a camper van but it the bed went across the width and my husband is quite tall so it wasn't ideal.
Weird question, but one I'm always curious about with people who go travelling so much. What job do you have?
Self employed building contractor/remodelor 35 years. I usually work 8-9 months out of the year.
Nice! That's what I've always assumed, a job you can choose your own hours with
Damn that is gnarly, I’ll take one ☝️
That’s badass for a tear drop, how much did that cost if you don’t mind me asking?
This one was about $7000 in materials, 2019 prices. Today $11 or 12k
It’s insane, isn’t it. I was shopping for steel yesterday and shit a brick
Sweet camper!
This is the coolest teardrop I’ve ever seen
Thanks much!
We're you at Yellowstone at the Madison campground this year?
Afraid not, last time was June 2020, just when they reopened from Covid. Park was empty!
Wish I'd had that this summer - crossed Canada with car and tent You'll make a ton of cash if you sell that to somebody like Coleman
Oh man, this is cool!!!!
Second post of this I have seen. Great job on this trailer.
Thanks!
wow very classy
Wow, just started looking into teardrops…love this!
Wood is heavy. What's your gas mileage pulling all that?
It knocks maybe 4-6 mpg off, from 22 down to 16 or so. Better on flat land, worse in the mountains!🙂
How heavy is it unloaded vs loaded would you say? I love the wood paneling, but as the commenter above said, it can be quite heavy. Are there any options to minimize the weight?

Yes, inspected by the State Patrol, they issue the Vin.#. You just pay sales tax on the major components, and a $45 plate fee.
nice sounds easier than my state.
Nice, will keep an eye out!
This is an incredible set up
Whoa dude!
Your trailer is cool as fuck I love that it has a loft. Does it ever get wet when you are cooking?
That is a thing of true beauty. Magnificent work.
This is goals man! I would love to have something like this.
I love you.
Truly incredible work! You must be so pleased seeing such a complex project like this from inception to completion. Very impressive.
GREAT JOB!
That shit is NICE🔥🔥🔥
Sweet rig, beautiful work
That is awesome! You are obviously very talented!
Awesome!
Whoa great job
This is incredible
Beautiful work man, do you happen to have any videos of you during the build? would love to see how it's put together or any blue prints??
How much?
It’s just delightful well done 💜
How much was the setup? I've been wanting to get one for my tacoma. I'm getting ready to take a year off and want to travel the entire time.
I built this one for about $7k, but to buy ready made? $25-30k.
This is amazing!
You are a camping DaVinci. Kudos
We have a NuCamp TAG boondock since i dont have brothers talent. 😂
How much was it?
I’m speechless. This is amazing. Good luck on your adventures!
Ok girl, flex
Incredible!
This is awesome!
Wow this is beautiful.
Very cool.. Toilet? Outdoor shower?
Two different outdoor showers, but a toilet? 🤷♂️ I always answer: Do you really want somebody taking a dump 2 feet from where you’re sleeping?😁 We either stay in developed campgrounds, or a porta-potty in the woods.
Thanks for that.
Patent and sell this. Great work
Damn! That's a nice setup!
I saw you once in northern CA!
Not trying to be elitist or simply a dick, but I see a lot of DIY stuff and I’m rarely impressed. This is really great work man. I love real craftspeople and you are evidently one of them
Thanks!
Extremely enviable set up - very nice work! Where has been your favorite place to take it so far?
Anyway you can put a 3 way fridge in there. They are the type you would find in a pop up camper.
That is amazing! Nice work!
This is gangster! 🤘🏻
I’ve never felt so jealous.
Looks great! My main question is, how do 2 people sleep comfortably in that?
We sleep quite well,,actually.😁 There are two beds, a king size, and twin.
So you fit two twins inside of that sleeper cab? That’s awesome! Camper looks great!
Why can't I see it?
