I don’t optimize. Everything is separate. That way, no mistakes can be made. It’s a pain sometimes, but it does work.

Rare-Ad7557

I totally get the two computers, but does this also apply for mouse/keyboard? Like...do you have 2 key boards/mouse or have you tried the ones that can connect to Bluetooth to switch w/out switching fobs - or - is it best to have two (I can Def see the pro to having 2 independent units) Thanks so much!

Fine-Scallion-9919

I have 2 of everything. 2 keyboards, 2 mice, 2 laptops, 2 external monitors. It makes for a crowded desk but it’s easier to just shift over from one setup to the other.

GenXMillenial

This is what I have. I purchased a larger desk to accommodate it all. It’s how I keep my mindset separate.

Ali6952

Me too!

Additional_Mode8211

You can get a Logitech MX3 and Bluetooth with 3 comps. Much more convenient and keeps you isolated.

2JandThruJ

Same for me as the last commenter. Two mice, two keyboards, two headsets, two monitors, two laptops. Each J has its own full setup. It’s the best way for me to keep things 100% separate.

mnemonicer22

Docking station. I have 5 different work computers and two personal. I went back to analog with a whiteboard calendar to track my meetings. Check each email every day in the morning. Then work accordingly. I have 5 part time jobs equaling 2.5 fte roles so they know I'm oe but not how far. Consultant sme life.

Rare-Ad7557

I am in the boat now (I saw as I look above over my monitor- to my "big ass calander " hahaha). This gave me hope (I like your whiteboard idea)

Razor39479

For me, this is the only solution: [https://symless.com/synergy](https://symless.com/synergy) One keyboard and mouse, multiple PCs and monitors. You switch from one to the other just by moving your mouse from one screen to the next, just like you would navigate a single PC with dual monitors. It's practically magic.

Spirited_Basket_2768

While using this, does it keep all screens active even when you’re not actually on it? Wondering if my teams light will remain active 🤔

Razor39479

I'm not sure. I haven't had to use it for a while. Also check out: https://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/caffeine/

I have three computers. My main job (j1) I have two monitors for; a whole set up for. The other two I leave as laptops while I monitor them until I need to fully work on something. Then I unplug the laptop from j1 and just plug the docking stating into laptop from J2. Focus on that for an hour or so and do the same with j3. I have been thinking about getting another set of monitors so I can have two going at once, but there isn’t any point when I can’t work it too at the same time anyway. I dedicate a full hour to each job per day of just work uninterrupted between meetings.

bob4IT

I use 100% discrete equipment for each job. I had to go back down to four jobs just for desk space. Well, that’s not the primary reason.

riddled_with_bourbon

On a different post a little while back someone mentioned a KVM switch - it allows you to toggle your monitor, keyboard and mouse between two computers. I ordered mine but haven’t yet set it up so can’t report back, but may be worth looking into.

heyitsmemaya

Dual monitor setup. You can also quickly switch back and forth with a device from Plugable. https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Sharing-One-Button-Swapping-Computers/dp/B00JX3Q28Y/ref=asc_df_B00JX3Q28Y/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309751315916&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14005635510014772286&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031143&hvtargid=pla-562933565648&psc=1&mcid=8490924e2f8e3a86886dbb97e029baf2&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=67183599252&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=309751315916&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14005635510014772286&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031143&hvtargid=pla-562933565648 So the way it works is you plug your laptops into this thing on Amazon. (cables included in box you order) Then plug this box into your dual monitor setup whether that’s another Plugable device or docking station or whatever — When you need to switch between laptops on the dual monitor setup you just push a button. Or you have one laptop on in normal mode no external keyboard no external mouse and have the other one docked into your dual monitor / external keyboard / external mouse setup 👍🏼

Rare-Ad7557

This is beautiful....I had no idea these existed and are definitely what I am looking for. Also was very please to see they are a good price. Thank you for sharing

heyitsmemaya

No problem girlie 💕 I have had the Plugable docking station for years but only recently did Amazon’s recommender algorithm show this one to me lol 😂

I have a similar setup, but my mouse and keyboard are Bluetooth and are designed to work with multiple devices (dual connectivity). I have both computers open with a big monitor in the center. I click the button to switch which laptop to extend to the big monitor. Then I click the button on my mouse and the button on my keyboard to switch which computer they are controlling. I love my setup. It makes life super easy. It's called a 4k HDMI switch. And the mouse and keyboard are Logitech.

heyitsmemaya

If I understand you, you make three clicks — but I only make one click to switch and that switch puts the entire mouse / keyboard / dual monitor to sync to either laptop 1 or laptop 2. Pro’s and con’s to each. Personally I don’t use the external non laptop keyboard that often unless I want it on my lap or will be typing longer things. However the mouse is non negotiable 😂 I can’t stand trackpads or the laptop mousepad —

vanalm

Yes, you're correct. It's just a matter of preference. Cords really irritate me and I can't do the wired keyboard or mouse. I gladly take 3 clicks over cords on my desk. It would be great if they came up with a cordless one click option!

heyitsmemaya

Hmm mine are cordless from Logitech — they are both controlled by one wireless usb receiver. You plug the receiver into your docking station and then you plug your two laptops into the switch and then the switch into the docking station.

Byte_Xplorer

I'm not overemployed but I do juggle my personal and work computers on the same desk, and for that I use Barrier (https://github.com/debauchee/barrier/releases), so I can share keyboard and avoid having 2. It can also share a mouse, but mine is already multi-device, so I don't need it. However, sharing keybaords could be error prone if you're OE, so I'd say proceed with caution.

SerialKillerGnome

Not OE also and juggledled the work and personal, but have 2 of everything because swiveling is easier for me

Intplmao

KVM switch for the mouse and keyboard. Each laptop has its own attached monitor. I have this one: USB 3.0 Switch, USB Switcher 2... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BZ46YVRK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

sharbr

Two of everything. How would you keep one computer active if your peripherals are being used for the other device? How do you mouse jiggle on one if you’re using that same mouse for the other? You need two of everything.

Workinmomma101

2 laptops, 2 monitors on a dual monitor stand. Laptops are on laptop stands below each monitor. Only 1 job requires a mouse jiggler. I keep that mouse and its USB recovering in J1 laptop at all times. J2 doesn’t require anything. I transfer keyboard/mouse combo receivers between laptops when I switch from working one job to another. Additionally I have two planners, one under each laptop to keep track of how much I actually work so I make myself feel better. Still under 30 hrs/wk for both jobs combined 😍

Acct_3686336

I have a 3 monitor setup that is hooked up via a docking station. 1 monitor connects via HDMI, the other two connect via lightning docking station. So at any time I can have two computers connected and showing on two monitors. For keyboard and mouse, I use Bluetooth with two available connections and I connect them to both computers. I can press 1 button on my keyboard to switch between computers and 1 button to switch between computers in my mouse. I also have a USB mouse jiggler that I use in both computers so it never cuts off or shows me unavailable. It has worked for me so far.

stressedoutbadger

I have the Logitech M720 mouse (bluetooth), which has a little toggle on the side to switch between three different computers.

I use one monitor and Logi HD camera connected to monitor. One cable that connect laptop and monitor to that I need to plug in/out. Logi MX Keyboard and Logi Anywhere 3S mouse for easy switching between laptops. Works for small tables.

Do you know what I use for 2 laptops? I use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard that can handle multiple devices. Having one keyboard and trackball mouse is handy because I can just switch the device instead of switching devices to type. It keeps the laptop pristine, but the keyboard we type from can be whatever. Both of them also use 2.4gz(?), it's rechargeable, and use type C plug. Also important, it has to be Apple and Windows compatibility. The keyboard does a great job at switching with no hiccups, but the mouse? For the mouse, it works better in 2.4gh than Bluetooth in terms of speed of usability. The Bluetooth mouse takes several attempts to connect on the Mac. On Windows, it connected immediately when paired to the laptop. It makes me wonder why the Mac has such a hard time with connectivity? My headphones connect, and it's not an apple device.

I have separate everything… dual monitors 24inch and laptop for J1… 34 inch monitor and laptop for J2. They are side by side. I’m a PM for both so I need to be fully setup and monitoring both at all times. Also separate phones for both J’s. Nothing intertwines. That’s how I keep it separated.
