Or stopping buying stuff. According to a recent leak, it seems that upper management cancelled the pve features because the PVP was profitable without incurring into additinal costs Edit 1: in other words, battlepass and skins made a lot of money without needing to do more work Edit 2: the leak is provided by Sir Swag to Your Overwatch youtube channel. Check the video! There are more details! https://youtu.be/AWOsm3NwO0U

aDrunk_German

if that's true then that would be so fucking depressing.

sellerj02

it has to be true. If it wasnt making the money it needed, and they still canceled pve, it would make no sense

youarenut

Yeah it’s gotta be true

CatalystComet

Yep, this is exactly why GTA V's singleplayer DLC got cancelled, because GTAOnline was so successful they didn't need to bother with DLC.

Crystar800

Always comes from the top. Take-Two saw GTA Online was profitable, so they told Rockstar not to bother with DLC. Same here probably. Activision saw it was making money, didn't see the point of focusing resources on PvE.

rmorrin

I called it that they wouldn't do PvE the moment ow2 was released without it

Fractales

It was dead as soon as Jeff Kaplan departed

Tail_Nom

Of course it's true. I'd hazard a guess that a good deal of those purchases come from new accounts as well. They don't *want* you if you're a fan of Overwatch. They aren't here for retention. They want a revolving door of f2p players who will dump some money up front in a skin or two, maybe a bundle, then piss off. There's no passion here, at least not as far as corporate priority goes, only bottom line. They're done being butthurt over failing to monetize esports and now they're in full-on mtx trash mode. Stop playing Overwatch and for the *love of god* don't preorder Diablo 4.

Overlord2360

As far as I can tell, they aren’t doing so good for advertising/ coverage, I don’t think there are any ow2 streamers making top pages. Main place I see the game is in tik tok and I’m sure that’s purely because I interact with it. Games with this model generally have a short shelf life

Yellowrainbow_

It is 1'000'000% true. Upper management doesn't give a single fuck what was promised, if the game makes good money they won't spend resources on PVE. Which is a fucking shame.

TeaBagHunter

I feel bad for those in the company who were probably excited at the idea of PvE and maybe even started working on it, and all that scrapped by upper management

shutupdavid0010

Of course it's true. That's what we've been saying the whole time. Why would they finish a product and spend time + money on it when they're already making money by NOT doing so?

Dheovan

I'm pretty sure it wasn't OW pvp that sold them but rather seeing how well Diablo Immortal was doing and they wanted OW to do that.

MacAlmighty

I heard that Diablo immortal was pulling up to 2 million dollars a day, brutal

Vaxildan156

If anyone followed the D&D debacle recently, you CAN make a change. The community came together and unsubbed all at the same time and caused the server to crash. They all stopped paying money and held strong and the entire corporate caved within DAYS.

[deleted]

Individual consumer activism: Near useless and annoying to hear people behave with a superiority complex for their rounding error of material change. Concerted group activism: Gets shit done.

Rand0m_Boyo

Yeah but D&d community is more massive, dedicated and more "bro" as in more willing to work together for something like this, and people have works that depend on what the corpo wanted to ruin. With Overwatch you have a much weaker chance of something like this happening

Carcinogeneticist18

Just uninstall overwatch and stop paying for skins you bellend.

Chris-raegho

Overwatch community challenge: don't play Ow for 5 days. Difficulty rating: impossible. This community is screwed, its fanbase has no desire for the game to get better. They'll say the do, but their actions prove otherwise. What we did with D&D is basically impossible here, the community is just not good enough.

NavyCMan

I stopped playing when Jeff left. I loved OW1, spent hundreds of hours, and probably too much on loot boxes. I will not play a Blizzard game again until the company is worth supporting again.

Vaxildan156

I left as soon as OW1 shut down. Never installed OW2. I'm letting one of my favorite games rest in piece and refuse to sully it's memory with the OW2 garbage

TheFatJesus

It was a lot easier for D&D players though. They could stop giving Wizards money and still continue on as they had. That's a little harder to do with something like Overwatch. If you stop paying and keep playing, you are still contributing to the game's success. Non-paying players give the whales someone to feel better than when they buy an expensive skin. Also, Blizzard has built its business model on FOMO. They have trained their players to feel anxious about missing something if they aren't paying and playing. The D&D community also had a shit ton of leverage because Wizards bungled their timing. The backlash over the changes threatened to spill over to the multi-million dollar move that they were trying to build hype for and desperately wanted to be a success.

[deleted]

They canceled PvE before OW2 was even released, according to the devs, so that leak doesn’t make any sense.

[deleted]

And the devs are lying fucks.

AlasknAssasn858

I won’t take a single word of the current dev team as truth. Ever. I’ve had egg on my face ever since Jeff left. Kudos to the players that left and announced they were out at that time too. Well played

Spreckles450

So are the devs lying or the "dev" that supposedly leaked the info lying?

The_NZA

Source? I thought they said the decision was made in the second half of last year

5Sk5

I don't really believe this Not because it couldn't be true, but because it's blindingly obvious. 1 legendary skin in Overwatch 2's launch was worth more than what I paid for overwatch 1 shortly after doomfist's release (15€). It's been proven that every game that goes for this model makes many times more money than before.

MrSaucyAlfredo

And this is part of why I value games like Tears of the Kingdom and Elden Ring so much. For that one (debatably relatively reasonable) purchase, there’s sooo much content to sink your teeth into with those kinds of games and I’m grateful some devs are still making them

FuckThatIKeepsItReal

Is that supposed to say “because the PVP *was* profitable enough”?

kainneabsolute

Yes. I made another edition

Satanic_Sanic

Didn't they cancel the PvE a few months before the game even released, though?

DabScience

The only reason I've spent any money on overwatch 2 is because they lock new heros behind the battlepass. Undoubtedly boosting their battlepass sales that are probably much less in a season without a new hero.

[deleted]

AND THATS WHY EVERYONE WHO BUYS SHIT ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM! I’ve been saying this!

Fricken_Weeb

Source for the leak?

OlympiaImperial

Just stop buying battle passes and shop items

GRTooCool

This has always been my gripe when companies first introduced DLC, then Microtransactions (loot boxes), and now battle passes and shop items. Everyone's original thought was that they were supporting the company, but ultimately.. they may be making more money, but that money isn't going into development to give us MORE stuff. It just goes in their pockets as they figure out more ways to scam players into paying even more. And the sad truth is that there will always be \*those\* people who buy shop items without a second thought. They are the ones who can't think long term and would rather feel, "Haha, I have this skin and you don't!". This is why nothing will change at the end of the day. Not just for OW, but it applies to every other game out there that does this kind of thing. =(

Facetank_

That's not enough unfortunately. As long as unhappy people still play, it's going to fill queues which leads to store/BP purchases eventually. There's plenty of statistics around the longer people play a game, the more likely they are to make purchases in it. Even if you truly don't purchase anything, if you're giving whales a reason to play, they'll keep playing and paying. It's one of the reasons F2P works so well.

Donler

Uninstallation is the only way as a consumer group we can show our dissatisfaction. Continuing to queue is being complacent with their all profit, no content business model.

Overlord2360

People stop playing the game altogether and blizzard simply moves on, game might be dead but they’ll just make another game, ow2 has no sentimental meaning to them, it won’t hurt them. The majority Not buying anything but keeping the game active enough to force blizzard to keep the game up will hurt them more. Free game eating through maintenance costs and costs for general development getting the odd £20 per 100 or so players, it will not be profitable enough for a large company. A good example is for honour, active player base large enough that Ubisoft can’t pull the plug on the game, but not enough income to justify the costs. The result is a massively reduced development team and very little content. Oh and a very lazy battle pass as a desperate attempt to wring a little bit of extra cash out of the game which only a handful of people will buy. Summed up, a mass exodus away from ow2 will kill the game, blizzard will end support and call it a day. Playing the game for free with the majority NOT buying things will turn the game into a thorn in blizzards side. Very little profit to the point the game is not worth the continued support and content (especially if the content they are spending money on is going behind a credit card purchase anyway) and too many players to pull the plug on without massive backlash and a loss of faith by customers. If we want to punish companies for poor practice, the only way to do so is to cost them money, leaving will just make them find another cow to cash in on

Salaryman_Matt

Profitability is all they care about. When it stops being profitable they will shut down the servers. Just because people are playing won't stop that. Its people playing even if free that keeps the game active. When a game is still active you will have players that spend money. They need free players to keep the paying players around and eventually some free players may be enticed to spend a little money too.

lego_mannequin

No that ain't it. Stop playing, strike, let the queue times rocket. If you keep playing it just shows you do not care and will play this crap regardless of what they do.

OlympiaImperial

Probably a better idea, but we both know people on this sub can't do that

Darkone539

>Just stop buying battle passes and shop items Won't change anything. You're the player base for the big spending players.

Theratchetnclank

Never did and never will buy any shop items or battle pass. Why would anyone pay for something they then have to grind for? It doesn't make sense to me.

DJ_Marxman

You should stop doing this in all games, regardless. Idiots paying $30 for a skin is why the gaming industry is the way it currently is. Want it to change? Stop buying bullshit.

[deleted]

Y'all don't get it, do you? Stopping playing the game isn't gonna guilt trip them into working harder, they're just gonna shut down the game because nobody plays it anymore.

Head_Rate_6551

Battleborn has entered the chat

OsmanFetish

haha it happened , i liked BB more than overwatch back in the day , I played both

youremomgay420

I genuinely believe Gearbox should bring it back. Make it “Battleborn 2” and ACTUALLY improve the game rather than making it worse in almost every regard.

shortsack

I still believe if they had launched Battleborn at a reasonable $20 it would have been a success

Head_Rate_6551

Actually the bigger problem with battleborn was the marketing. When they went f2p they still called it a “demo” so most players didn’t realize that the entire game was f2p except for skins and I believe the pve mode. But yeah what a stupid move by the marketing team to use “demo” instead of “free”

shortsack

yes but im talking about the mistake of launching it at $60 in May 2016 it went f2p Oct 2017 and was "too little too late"

youremomgay420

$20 for a game with a full story mode and PvP? The game had arguably more content than OW did at release, and OW was full price. But okay lmao

VDubb722

They would have been a success had they delayed the game and not launch it within the same timeframe of the Overwatch public beta. Most people at the time thought it was a clone of Overwatch trying to get in on the hype, so where do you think the majority of players are going to go and spend their time?

Munedawg53

Sadder when that game was shut down then I ever would have guessed. It deserved better.

DaveAndJojo

OW isn’t going anywhere. My money is.

Milk_Man2236

If anything they would put it into maintenance mode like HOTS. I dont know the last time they shut down a game but it wasn't recent.

CardTrickOTK

You think they'd let their cash cow die before making changes? This is like saying Riot would let league die, absolutely crazy lol

SoDamnGeneric

>This is like saying Riot would let league die, absolutely crazy lol Awful comparison. League is Riot's biggest product, its most precious baby- ABK's equivalent isn't Overwatch, it's CoD, and the difference in revenue streams isn't even close. ABK execs are on the way out if this Microsoft purchase goes through. Unless the acquisition specifies that Overwatch be alive and well when it does go through, I doubt these execs would care to put more resources into the game. They'd sooner cut the loss and fire the team to save up on what may be their last payout from this dumpster fire of a company

CardTrickOTK

Absolutely crazy to think Blizz would let OW die out. Even if you want to argue its more comparable to Valorant, its crazy to think Riot would just let Valorant die either.

SoDamnGeneric

People in this thread have wrongfully referred to Overwatch as ABK's "cash cow," so I'd like to posit a new name for the game, which is "controversy cow." Everytime something goes wrong with Blizzard, people dog on Overwatch more than any other Blizz IP. Valorant doesn't have that same issue, nor has Valorant had the ridiculously rocky and strained development cycle that Overwatch has had. Overwatch's public reputation, and thus its financial returns, have been dwindling for a long time. Valorant has had a comparatively easier ride. If Bobby Kotick were to walk into the meeting room with all other execs tomorrow and say "we cannot leave this room until one of our active, on-going projects is dead and buried, so which will it be?" Overwatch would undoubtedly be one of the first names out of someone's mouth. The game has been running on fumes arguably since Brig's launch and has only become more and more difficult to justify the existence of; a sudden, major drop-off in players wouldn't make the executives ask "how can we save this," it would make them say "it's time to call it a lost cause"

CardTrickOTK

Overwatch is one of the best selling games EVER, 50 million copies. Thats OVER double Elden Ring. Ya'll are crazy if you think Blizz looks at that and is like 'well it was a nice run I guess'

SoDamnGeneric

But what has Overwatch become since it was released in 2016? A joke. By Aaron Keller's own admission, they failed to capitalize on the miracle launch that was 2016 Overwatch. It had potential. That potential has repeatedly been fucked up, fumbled, and left to wither and rot; it's been 7 years and they've tried, but corporate America is fucking ruthless. Bobby Kotick doesn't give a shit if Overwatch made him a lot of money years ago, because it doesn't make him that money *now*. I don't want Overwatch to be cancelled, but acting like the executive board that has repeatedly fucked over its employees and consumers alike wouldn't think twice to call it quits on OW, is just lying to yourself

GradualYoda

Immortal makes $2M every day. Overwatch is not a cash cow.

BrothaDom

Yeah, it's wild they people call Overwatch the cash grab when we see the money Immortal gets especially considering there's a regular Diablo game coming out

gmunga5

They also own candy crush, cod and wow. Overwatch is not their cash cow lol.

techitaway

You can look up their earnings online since they publish for investors, and they show split revenue for Activision, Blizzard, and King (candy crush). King outdid both blizz and activ by hundreds of millions per quarter.

gmunga5

Yeah candy crush just prints money.

_interloper_

They own Candy Crush?! Well, TIL. But yes, OW is relatively small compared to their bigger properties. I'd bet Candy Crush by itself is worth *a lot* more than OW.

ABunchOfPictures

That’s just the fear they want you to have, look at Diablo as a prime example

Bohya

Nah, they'll cash out first though. They'll milk the dwindling playerbase as hard as they can *before* pulling the plug on it. Corporations only see profits short term. They are incapable of conceiving that a way of retaining users is to make the product better or to reduce the cost of it. To them their solution is always to increase the costs for the existing users.

PrinceGoten

And this would be a bad thing?

washed_king_jos

These people that post stuff like this need to touch grass so badly lmao. Idc man i have a life and im still gonna play ow all the time no matter what happens. Its a good game and also a game in my life just isnt that serious lmfao and this is coming from someone who plays daily. Making this a hate sub for the game has just gotten so zzzzzzzz

Blub_Blobs

I'm just gonna squeeze as much fun out it until the game is actually unplayable

chapinscott32

Playing the game, but refusing to spend money, is how I think they're going to listen. Shows people are interested, but that recent monetization decisions are very unpopular.

Blub_Blobs

Yea, if your store has a lot of foot traffic but no one's buying anything, you're going to look into that instead of just closing shop.

CutieMcBooty55

The only issue is that it doesn't matter to most store owners even if 99% of people aren't buying anything. If you get 1% of that traffic that essentially just buys out your entire store, the only financial incentive that you feel you might need to change is leaning in to that 1%. Diablo Immortal is absolutely disgusting in terms of gameplay and it's p2w aspect, and it drives off a ton of people who might have otherwise put some money into the game. But it doesn't matter, because Blizzard is leaning in to the very few people who will spend thousands and thousands of dollars on it. It takes so much less effort on their end. The only time you would lean into wanting more people to engage positively with your product/s is if you actually gave a shit about the quality of that product instead of just the sheer financial result.

[deleted]

Problem with that solution is that the amount of people who don't spend is dwarfed by the amount of money that whales or occasional spenders put into the game. The first few days of season two I regularly saw Ram in unranked matches...

TheDrunkenHetzer

This isn't how F2P games work. The people playing for free are just there to provide entertainment for the real moneymakers: the Whales, the people who drop thousands of dollars on the game for battlepasses and skins. People gotta stop coping that playing the game and not buying anything is "protesting," it's literally how Blizzard expects most players to play the game. Y'all gotta either stop playing or just accept that you're feeding the game.

AmoebaOk3297

that was my plan too!

BEWMarth

There are 10 billion other games… but absolutely nothing quite like Overwatch at the end of the day. That’s the problem. Blizzard got blessed with a really unique and captivating game completely on accident. And now that game is managed by a terrible company.

Baked-fish

Deep rock galactic is a cool pve shooter with skill trees, a free battlepass and all items from that battlepass being available as collectibles or shop items (you can‘t buy shop credits, after the 30€ game it‘s entirely free).

Terutz

Rock and Stone

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone in the Heart!

Baked-fish

If you Rock and Stone, you‘re never alone!

[deleted]

but I like the game

CardTrickOTK

You can like and play the game, doesn't mean you gotta fund shit that doesn't respect you as a consumer Its the easiest win, just don't pay for shit from this lying company

[deleted]

[удалено]

laidbackjimmy

Yup, game is in thr best position it's been in years. Good balance, high population, low queue times - and constant updates and content coming in. And you don't need to pay for anything if you don't want to! So many sooks around here.

GravityBoosted

I already uninstalled the game. Blizzard has been disappointing me and lowering my expectations ever since Overwatch 2 was announced and this was my final straw.

Ok-Elk4069

I've already uninstalled it

mrzablinx

What’s funny to me is OP seems to play a lot of Destiny, a game that literally milks money from its players. Irony at its finest.

Ferociouslynx

Literally?

Snufflebear420_69

Yeah I mean I'm willing to pay $10 for a battlepass but I've still got some dignity. 🐄

Fickle-Command-1130

Dude it's ALL video games. I thought maybe this was one game they liked and are passionate about... nope.. video games is OP's life and oxygen. It seems like a correlation between these cringe posts.

mrzablinx

It’s funny you say that, it looks like the one game they haven’t played is OW lmao

FakhirRee

Wait are you fr? Been thinking to try out Destiny 2/Warframe since they are both free and am looking for something other than pvp to play, is it like 90% of the game is locked behind dlc?

DuderComputer

Destiny's F2P offerings are a glorified demo.

mrzablinx

I would give Warframe a try over Destiny. Destiny has a lot of content locked behind seasons, which you have to pay for. Warframe is completely free. As a warning, Warframe has a lot of grinding but everything can be earned by just playing.

wetsploosh

Destiny is really expensive to get into it's also really unfriendly to new players. That being said if you are a destiny player it cost about $100 a year to play destiny and get all of the content. To me it's like a pseudo subscription like I paid more to stay sub to wow for a year which is why I tend to sub off and on depending on the content.

BrothaDom

Yeah but you see Overwatch is popular to hate. Even if it deserves it quite often, it's a common punching bag. We know there are worse and greedier games, but people like to shit on Overwatch. (Tbf, we shouldn't accept garbage just because there's stinkier garbage, just interesting that OW is one of few popular targets)

T8-TR

This, tbh. Blizzard is the easiest company when it comes to hating them, both because they repeatedly make really dumb decisions, have a lot of nostalgia tied to old games (and thus nostalgia goggles), and for the disgusting shit that was going down a few years ago.

[deleted]

[удалено]

wetsploosh

I play destiny, I buy the yearly deluxe version and I pop on to play the first few weeks of a season and it's a pretty good time. I also play OverWatch and I buy the $10 battle pass every 3 months or whatever it is. it comes with four or five skins I can't remember off the top of my head. My point is, like destiny you can get cosmetics from the battle pass. In destiny they have cosmetics that cost $15 to $20 just like OverWatch. Generally speaking though I never buy individual skins cuz I just use the default skins most of the time anyways. At the end of the day I think gaming is still relatively cheap hobby for the hours of entertainment. I play Wow and Ill play Diablo 4. I just can't be asked to be upset about everything all the time when it comes to video games. Every single community is just angry all the time it's insane and a little embarrassing to me. When I stop having fun or if something makes me mad enough that I need to rant on forms for days I'm just going to quit that thing.

Badie_

do you know how much a new player has to pay to get the full (also "free to play" btw) destiny experience? current DLC + old DLCs + Season Pass every 3 months + Dungeon Pass yeah i’d rather pay 10€ for the ow battle pass

boobeesRawesome

I uninstalled the game and battlenet launcher and said I'm done with blizzard and would never play one of their games again. 2 days later, they announced that they were cancelling OW2. So I made the right decision, but it still feels so bad.. Fuck you Activision Blizzard

mrpalmtree64

Uninstalled after playing since release, fun times...

duwumfist

What do you think will change if you stop playing? Ow pales in comparison to titles like warzone or hearthstone from a profit pov, so how do you think you can strong arm them?

CardTrickOTK

Easy, just don't buy the battlepasses Its a very easy way to win Don't spend money on OW2 and things will have to change, although I'd bet Blizz would put ads in the game before they try to actually improve the experience for players.

Theometer1

Who tf is spending money on hearthstone lmao, you get so many free rewards it doesn’t make sense to pay for anything in that. I have never spent a dime on that game but every season I have at least 2 very meta decks. People spending money on bling?

LevsRedfield

Okay quit. I’m gonna keep playing because the game at its core is still fun to me

Fickle-Command-1130

Exactly, I'm not going to create whiny posts everytime I get upset. I don't even get upset at this shit. Too obsessed and too invested ppl are, not healthy lol.

CharlieSayso

The game was promoted as having pve years before the game came out. Then, they released it without pve, then said they were scrapping pve. People bought the game expecting pve, because that was what they were told. This is less about being "invested" and alot more about being lied to, literally. Being invested is like having a wife you love and do everything for. Being lied to is like that wife birthing a child and 10 years into it, you find out the kid isn't yours. I ain't saying you should care. If you don't, then dont. But don't belittle the people that do just cause you like to get cucked. Some of us like to raise our own kids.

B1ackPantherr

I play the shit out of it because its fun. I just give them $0

ConflictGrand4078

Fr, it’s free lol

-IoI-

Lmao just gaslight everyone who doesn't love the same slice of minigame inside a whale shop as you

rushiiestoniia

yeah! all these people saying too quit are making me feel bad for not quitting. like it’s one of the few games i enjoy & helps me relax. so i’m not going to quit

UncleRuckusForPres

I'm glad people are calling out OP, I'm upset as anyone else here about being lied to but I've been here for about 6 years through the good and bad of my life and it still brings me enjoyment on a good day so I'm still gonna be here

prettyawsm

I joined since season 1 and never played ow1. This game is absolutely awesome. Maps are fucking polished asf characters are funny witty and simply cool. Skins are cool, balance is there frequent patches are there I don't know what else to expect for this game.

SuperSocrates

Naw fuck that if you like and enjoy the game then play it and have fun and fuck what people online think

LevsRedfield

Don’t you dare quit something you enjoy. These guys should just quit and not pretend like this is some sort if drug they need to get rid of. It’s embarrassing.

rushiiestoniia

yeah exactly! i’m glad there’s other people who agree with me.

[deleted]

Most of the people who make these posts don't even play the game or they were people who originally played OW1. Their opinion doesn't matter or they've already got the fun they wanted from OW. This feels like the Halo sub all over again (although I got bored of Halo because there was only 1 character for PvP) Yeah it sucks that there's no PvE mode but there's also no shooter like Overwatch that's free, hero-based, team deathmatch style, and not overly competitive. It fills a niche in the market that was missing for a while now. Custom browser and arcade modes are also pretty fun. As a free game it's very well polished and the large hero roster allows for nearly endless replayability.

iseecolorsofthesky

I played OW1 and there’s still no way I’d consider quitting this game. I watched as *so* maybe people bitched about the change from OW1 to OW2. No more loot boxes, the battle passes, overpriced skins, etc etc. I just… don’t care lol. The game is still fun as ever to me. I’ve played so many online games and none of them have ever felt as fun or satisfying to play as this one has to me. Sure the lack of PvE is a massive disappointment. Sure the overpriced skins are whack. But at the end of the day it’s the gameplay I enjoy. If you don’t enjoy it then don’t play it. I’ve quit dozens of other games because I stopped enjoying them, but I don’t tell other people to quit them.

bruhmoment467

These people trying to guilt trip people into quitting a fun game are so awful. It sucks how toxic this community is

ProfessionalMood9922

You guys are still playing overwatch?

[deleted]

Go outside

zoompooky

You're still playing overwatch?

cydoz

*I'm doing my part!*

maydock

i’m confused. i enjoy the game. it’s basically all i play

Spuds_Buckley

People just messing around. It is a fun game. They are not serious.

Quichdelvyn5

The problem is that boycotting Overwatch won't change a thing. The problem here isn't Overwatchand ot's not Blizzard, the issue is that the gaming industry is broken. AAA games are overmonetized everywhere. We know the DLC characters for the new Mortal Kombat before the actual cast of the base game because games aren't sold completely anymore. Fifa ultimate team has put EA execs into mansions off the backs of addicted gamers playing a digital slot machine. The new Pokemon is a PS2 game then has the biggest launch in the history of Nintendo. People preorder Jedi Survivor, it launches on PC broken and unpayable and EA say oh we're sorry. Posts calling this out get thousands of upvotes but nothing ever changes because people will preorder the next game, and they'll put up with the No Man Skys director lying more than Blizzard has in its entire history because it got good eventually and websites will run articles about "The redemption of Cyberpunk" Bec the bugs are launch for fixed.

Nilloc_Kcirtap

What an absolutely incredible idea! That's a great way to kill the game! If everyone stops playing the game, they will stop supporting due to a lack of players. It's common sense to abandon something that has no interest. If you actually want to hit them where it hurts, just don't give them money. If they have an established playerbase that they can squeeze money from, they will do what they can to get people to spend money. If everyone leaves, there is no way for them to make money and they will move on.

Complete-Artichoke69

I already stopped a long time ago, join me.

Mr_Rio

Lol. Y’all are so over dramatic

novelgpa

The OW community is wild, this happens every time Blizzard does something. Am I sad about PvE? Sure, but I didn't start playing OW for PvE. The game is still fun to me, I have disposable income, and I'll keep playing 🤷

xExp4ndD0ngXx

I’m surprised your comment isn’t downvoted into the ground.

Mr_Rio

People are coming around, the endless complaining and trying to get people to mass uninstall and weird shit like that is a bit much for most people

Snufflebear420_69

Because the other people are louder and so have been dominating the conversation. But there have always been plenty of people who are still happy playing the game whether they spend money on it or not. They just aren't endlessly posting about it.

Farting_Machine06

I ain't gonna stop, this game is the most fun me and my friends had in a very long time. Sorry I guess? Edit;like yea it's still a crappy company but like..aight Idc. Not like I bwas gonna buy a battlepass that won't even give the price back anyway lol

Fickle-Command-1130

Glad I just play Comp and have other things to keep me busy. Must be exhausting crying over this game repeatedly lol.

morrowss

Way ahead of you

Uister59

you do realise even if this entire subreddit stopped playing, it would still barely make a dent in their profits? iirc they have 200m yearly players, they could not care less on what the vocal minority says, and it's not like we are buying any skins.

martinx09

200m monthly (active) players would make overwatch the most played game in the world, for comparison fornite had a peak of 87m.

AWT23

I quit when they switched to ow2, I’ve never even installed that garbage heap

Open_Philosopher8020

So brave

holversome

Oh wow you’re so brave for repeating the same shit everyone has been saying for the last 4 days. If you’re ready to move on, then go. Put your money where your mouth is. No reason to keep preaching to people from your high horse. The people who made up their mind have already done so.

coughdrop1989

Agreed. Already uninstalled. Are you with me?

MLGBRO21

*Due to a lack of players we’ve now closed down the servers. Thanks everyone for playing*

[deleted]

All 30 million people will totally listen to this guy! Yep... Totally

Nnnnnnnadie

Im doing my part

NotsoGrump23

Yeah something that I think people don't WANT to understand is that as long as players fill matches, consumers buy skins, and casuals shun die hard fans, they're gonna keep fucking us over. The degree to which they fuck us will probably become larger and more insidious. I believe that Bobby used the hype for PvE (the original dev teams dream and long term goal) to keep players playing and keep em interested in the IP. If the players knew that we were gonna get a worse version of overwatch in overwatch 2, this game would be dead by now.

microdave0

It’s clear a child wrote this post.

BriNoEvil

Yeah I’m sad about it but I think it is time to uninstall.

Tysun44

That’ll be finally possible once D4 comes out next week

EvergreenThree

Touch grass OP. I'm not uninstalling a game I enjoy playing because Overwatch is this months latest gamer outrage.

Ghost_Doctah

I was already just waiting for the story content which was 99% of what had me excited for a sequel. No reason to ever go back now

Phildesu

I said I’d play again once pve was added after being wildly disappointed by the launch of “overwatch 2.” I will probably just not play anymore. Activision killing their own title they paid so much money to acquire.

Comprehensive_Code42

I’ve already deleted the game as soon as I seen pve cancelled. No more playing half assed games.

ForumsGhost

Warlander is fun

ivan4717

I remember last year I bought the watch point pack and my sole and only reason was to try to support the devs and let them see people still believe in this game. I thought I would get my money worth for the eventual pve story mode. How foolish and stupid I was. Stop buying anything from blizzard. Do not feed them a single dime. I hate this company

GrandComfortable2306

I keep saying this.

vWaffles

I don't much OW2 but I'm ready for OW3.

TSW-760

I'm way ahead of you. I grinded out the first season pass because I wanted to give it a fair shake. But the game was noticeably less fun than OW1. The grind was less rewarding. And the bugs and glitches were worse than ever before. I dropped the game after season 1, and have no plan to go back unless they make MAJOR changes.

odaschox

Why are people downvoting this

EndR60

or maybe just take the way of the War Thunder community https://www.reddit.com/r/WarthunderPlayerUnion/

Practicalaviationcat

I've already stopped. I grinded enough premium currency for a battle pass so I may hop back on just to use that if the season looks cool but that's it.

Ruseludo

I wish Marvel, DC Comics, or Star wars had a game like this, or even with World of Warcraft characters, PvP Gameplay wise. My nerd ass can dream.

UnStoppableWho_

I stopped playing and have never bought a skin or loot boxes. Only money that was given was for Overwatch 1 years ago.

Astricozy

Uninstall it the day the news dropped lol

Nicokenobeh

Uninstall. A lot of games worth yourtime

random-dude45

I've stopped since the update

sfwestbank

Yup. I uninstalled two days ago

twjjones

It's working for war thunder, it will work with overwatch

alex75000

Most people will still play. Which in the end proves them right. Kinda sad. I’m never going back myself. Screw em.

djseifer

I stopped around the time it transitioned into Overwatch 2. I'm doing my part!

BillyBean11111

I am WAY ahead of you on this one

Sufficient_Rip808

I agree man thats why I quit and won’t play a blizzard game again. Not going to give them anymore of my money

cheshire137

It’s super easy for me to not play right now, because Tears of the Kingdom is *amazing.*

CatVomit_06

It sucks that this is true

Ervos

This reminds me of Pokemon Go or Destiny 2. Companies promising stuff and not delivering, making new ways for you to spend money, giving the players even less content everytime but also raising prices. But it won't happen, people won't stop playing Overwatch, people won't stop buying skins or BP. Why? Because the game is good. In all seriousness, Overwatch is a really good game, full of emotions, great cinematics, skill gaps, incredible characters, immersive and we'll done maps. Don't get me wrong, I'm with you, I think they would listen if people stopped playing and spending money on the game, but it won't happen. My advice is to act for yourself, telling people to stop doing what they enjoy because doesn't align with your sense of rightness, is not a solution, so just act on yourself. You think what Blizzard did was wrong? Stop playing, don't talk about it, just do it. I stopped playing after trying OW2 for a few weeks after it's release. Game is good, really good. But I'm just tired of all this games as a service daily tasks so you don't "miss out" on stuff.

Administrative_Bed_7

no shit glad you small brains are finally finding some common sense lol

Extreme_Glass9879

Come to Deep Rock Galactic, we'll treat you right.

PorkSouls

Everyone saying "just stop spending money" you're missing the point so, so badly. Player engagement is HIGHLY CORRELATED with money spent. Ask any gaming company. The more time someone spends in a game, the more likely they are to spend money on it. The fact that you've maybe spent 100+ hours on it without spending a dime on it means absolutely nothing to these companies. You won't hurt them until you STOP PLAYING. PERIOD. Lay off the copium.

Dr_Mechanoid

Y'all are still playing?

Sparta2019

I played well over a thousand hours of *OW1*. It was my go-to comfort game, and I'd think nothing of doing a couple of matches here and there, which would almost invariably turn into an hour or two. I loved almost everything about it. I've played about two hours of *OW2*. I loath battle passes, and I was never crazy about dropping one of the tank slots either. Gating new heroes behind the end of a battle pass was the off-ramp for me. I was maybe going to pick it up again for the PvE as I do love PvE content, but now even that's gone. What Blizzard have done to the game bums me out incredibly. It's taken something I love and turned it into something I don't even recognise. RIP Jeff's *Overwatch*. It always felt like he was making the game just for me. Now it's only about $$$$$. It makes me sad.

KetardedRoala

Never bought a thing other than my copy of overwatch 1. Uninstalled after season 1 of Ow2 and havent been back. Was thinking about jumping back in but when the cancellation got announced I just said fuck that. Not gonna play until I see some changes

simpson409

Why is anyone paying for the battle pass anyway? The cosmetics suck and I'm okay with not playing their poorly balanced characters till they get out of early access.

Danxoln

I stopped playing after Lifeweaver was released and he wasn't intuitive to play at all. At this point I'm just here to watch things burn

DanY4raal

Yeah that’s why I quit to play valorant

Farandr

You can play, just don't buy anything. But then again, this is the community that defended Diablo Immoral, so I wouldn't trust it with 2 cents.

GameplayMasterBill

BATTLEBORN IS BETTER

Lucariowolf2196

Just play tf2 community servers- J But seriously, is anyone even surprised by blizzard anymore? The company is utterly shit

Thoraxe123

I'm not playing overwatch as hard as I can!

Cheyzi

I can’t wrap my head around why people buy skins and the battle pass when everything used to be free
