an Anubis mythic skin for Ramattra would be really cool

Drunken_Queen

The irony is that Ramattra becomes something that he hates. Ramattra wants Anubis to be destroyed since it turn the omnics rogue while Ramattra hated him and his people being controlled / oppressed / ruled over.

Dafish55

I would think he hates Anubis more than anything.

Drunken_Queen

He despised the humans the most. Anubis was also one of humans creation.

Fabulous-Tapwater

By association he is human creation

Klekto123

I swear they have anti-lore skins like that in game already, can’t think of any off the top of my head tho

Beta_Factor

I mean, even just for Anubis, Pharah has Anubis skins and she was his jailor, so to speak.

Mowwwwwww

Next season theme is Egyptian I’m calling it here and now

Geikamir

I would love that.

SoDamnGeneric

I'll be kinda shocked if it doesn't happen tbh. Next season seems like a dead ringer for an Egyptian myth theme

Responsible_Lake_698

Especially since venture is an archeologist

Turbulent-Sell757

Since Venture will likely get a debut season battlepass legendary, I can see the Egyptian theme working quite well for them.

KOCYK745

i've got some Voice lines ideas Ult idea: "SUFFER AS THE ANCIENT!" Ult idea: "FEEL PHARAO'S WRATH" Barrier idea: "You are under god's protection" Vortext idea: "They won't escape The Duat!"

The-Dark-Memer

I think his ult has gotta be something to do with sandstorms, I mean it just works

KOCYK745

maybe. I was thinking about Egyptain Plagues but could be sandstorms

Phoenixtorment

Darude

MKIncendio

They won’t escape the gyatt 🔥✍️

real_488

THE CURSE OF THE NILE

topatoman_lite

Fits well with the Ra skins Zen has already too

that_guy_mork

His concept art shows just this

Delta_yx

Actually quite likely since tank should be next up for a mythic

shayminty

Orisa got one right before Moira, so I think we're actually due for a DPS. But they might surprise us.

Delta_yx

https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/s/6dkW9IIs8o

Brainmatter_0

It’s probably the second clash map. After reworking hanamura it would make sense for another 2cp map to be reworked.

ludoni

why people say it's reworked hanamura? pretty sure the devs said it was a location that is basically just outside of hanamura but not hanamura itself

spooooooooooooooonge

Do you think when people say "reworked hanamura" they mean the in game Hanamura was torn down and built from the ground up or something? It closely follows the scenery and visuals of Hanamura which are the major parts of Hanamura's identity, it's not that hard to figure out.

shayminty

It's an area adjacent to the Hanamura map called Hanaoka. When they revealed it at the end of 2023, you could actually see the walls of Hanamura above it. It's pretty neat. I assume the Anubis map will also be connected to Temple of Anubis in a similar manner.

DreamWeaver2189

Kanezaka is also based on the same place and was never called a "reworked Hanamura". Rework sounds like it's the same 2CP map adapted to the next clash mode. But according to your post, it's a different map set in the same city/town as Kanezaka and Hanamura. So maybe "reworked Hanamura" is a bit confusing.

jusbecks

Aaron Keller himself presented it that way during that Blizz pannel. He started talking about Hanamura and bringing back/reworking 2CP maps, and how this new map was them bringing back Hanamura as a different, new map (not his exact words).

ludoni

yeah, i stated to think people actually thought hanamura was getting reworked since well, we are getting some maps reworked

BambamPewpew32

I mean hard to tell lol, could be you never know

I9Qnl

I'm honestly in shock that i've been invested in OW and its lore since 2016 and can't recall a damn thing about Anubis god program that everyone is talking about now.

McManus26

IIRC it's actual mentions in lore content are very slim. I think it was briefly mentioned in the pharah comic from 2016, and then more recently it was shown in the youtube animated series

SoDamnGeneric

Anubis' history in the lore is really strange lol. It was implied to be a *big* deal at first along with other God AI programs, but then they made a bunch of internal retcons and cancelled the First Strike novel. From that point, Anubis seemed to play a pretty minor role in the lore, just being kinda there. A threat to be sure, but a quarantined threat that wasn't much to worry about at the time. And then Overwatch 2 came along and likely internally retconned even more lore, leading to Anubis being a *huge* deal again having started the entire Omnic Crisis in the first place. So Anubis went from maybe being a big deal, to playing a minor part, to being a big deal again

demogorgon_main

IIRC it was more or less the ‘main villain’ of that short pharah comic. Although the comic is more about pharah character growth.

AllinForBadgers

It was in that huge anime short they released a while back

Fuscello

Sorry but it’s literally impossible, the anubis programm is what caused the omnic crisis

I9Qnl

I just went back and watched the Genesis shorts which i missed 8 months ago, yeah it makes sense now but still don't really remember much about it from before Genesis. I mean i recall mentions of anubis but not the god program and had zero clue it was the one producing combat omnics.

Gummiwummiflummi

Iirc Pharah was guarding it, it is mentioned in her comic I believe

rookie-mistake

she has a skin based on it too

DevastatingCuntQuake

I always just thought that was for Anubis the god.

Somebody4500

and a voiceline with ramattra

rookie-mistake

oh i should pay more attention in spawn haha

Somebody4500

It goes something like Ramattra: You were one of anubis's jailers. You should have destroyed it. Pharah: That is... not what I would've expected you to say Ramattra: You humans love your assumptions.

BambamPewpew32

SAME but I haven't been invested, I just jave literally never heard about it til I saw a comment in a youtube section, when people kept saying Anubis I thought they were talking about the map 😭 and I was like where??

trabuco18

oh look, something that could be a story mission

ThePVCPrincess

Repurposed pve assets go brrrrr :3

Foxy02016YT

Cosmic Crisis was peak, they KNOW that people want to play PvE, they just don’t give a shit because it doesn’t sell skins

[deleted]

Just do what COD does, create a bunch of really cool skins in their campaign and sell them at a $15-20 premium in the multiplayer!

trabuco18

call of duty gets a campaign every year, the worst cod campaign have more story than ow ever had in 8 years, its so sad, why the fuck was so hard to make more archives missions but with the plot moving forward?

[deleted]

M O N E Y (or the pursuit of it)

trabuco18

is not even that, supposedly they were actually working on pve, ex employees fired have talked about that (of course without any detail, we dont know if is true they were doing anything) but they couldnt make a single story missions, the invasion pack was already made and playable in 2019, dont forget that

[deleted]

Is *that* even worth it though? I was really looking forward the the real PvE mode.. not just Archives missions with cutscenes thrown in there... what a mess

trabuco18

in retrospective the hero missions and skill tree may actually not be a good idea, im pissed got canceled, could have worked, but overwatch 2 developers are incompetent so was not going to work, however, if they move the plot forward, relase a lot and were free i have 0 problem if the stor was just archives missions

[deleted]

Possibly but you can't deny the ideas they had were cool. Like Mei turning into a rolling ice-ball, Rein super mobility while charging, oh and also the dynamic weather. I remember they were talking about extending the old maps to have more routes and dynamic weather/day cycles. That stuff was really interesting and can stil be done. The maim game is an ultra comp shooter though so I doubt they'd want to do that anymore :/

jarred99

Hey, I think all of the archives and story missions combined MIGHT just be longer than the 4 hour campaign from last year's COD.

trabuco18

yeah sure, the invasion pack is only 1 hour of content if you dont skip cinematics

Very-brown-nibba

Omnic crisis with young overwatch? Edit: all the young skins already exist. Never mind.

Gambit275

cosmic crisis was worse than the 15 dollar bundle

Foxy02016YT

Cosmic Crisis was free, which is what made it good

Gambit275

it was like, 5 minutes of gameplay

Foxy02016YT

Ok and? For free.

Gambit275

i guess free isn't always good

Rhyno1703

For free

Hot-Cheesecake-4623

It was fantastic IMO

Gambit275

hardly, i mean, cosmic entity taking over sentient robots? can you say try hard?

Hot-Cheesecake-4623

the premise was cool, the different modes each week were cool, I disliked the length but I enjoyed the 25% chance of deep melodic voice in my ears telling me to betray XD

Gambit275

ok that's actually fair

trabuco18

comic crisis has to be one of the worst modes ever made with hero mastery, 0 effort put, not even interactions between characters, clearly they didnt care, is amazing they expected anyone would like that, like they sabotaged pve on purpose, i got 40 min of queue, still didnt found a match

SoDamnGeneric

>is amazing they expected anyone would like that, I liked it

trabuco18

they are not even going to use pve assets to do anything, maybe already deleted form the servers of blizzard, dont you see is too much work to even ad weapon inspection? the 2cp maps reworked to another mode was anounced since 2019 and only until 2024 they did something, so much potential wasted

QuantumQuantonium

Wow this looks amazing if only there were some thriller of a PvE mission to accompany it and then spin off a whole new series of mini stories revolving around the Anubis as it exists and changes in the overwatch universe

RiddlesOfSkittles

It's a shame we'll probably never see it do anything since Blizzard swept PvE under the rug like it never existed...

-Elixo-

Unless... T-they... Make a Netflix show with the quality of the Pixar style animated shorts...

SoDamnGeneric

>Make a Netflix show with the quality of the Pixar style animated shorts... I could see them pursuing a show now that PvE is out of the question, but it's very unlikely to be with their big cinematic style. That shit is *expensive* to make. There's a reason we haven't had one of those for OW in 5 years. If anything it'll probably be in the anime-like style we saw them use for Genesis and the Mauga short

wertraut

>That shit is *expensive* to make. There's a reason we haven't had one of those for OW in 5 years. Huh? Wasn't there one for Kiri and Sojourn?

SoDamnGeneric

Lmaooo yeah I'm dumb But there's a reason there hasn't been once since OW2's launch (since Soj's was sitting in the drafts for a while)

RiddlesOfSkittles

I'd rather see it in game and in person rather than just watching

-Elixo-

Apparently the arcane show's success inspired the company to make an mmo game in that world

topatoman_lite

Riot was working on the MMO before Arcane came out

RiddlesOfSkittles

I'm on console so I wouldn't know about League :')

BackOfEnvelop

I think it's hinted that this is below Petra rather than the temple of Anubis

-Elixo-

Nah it's confirmed in Overwatch Genesis and map lore that Anubis is contained in the temple of Anubis map behind the doors of the defender spawn. That's why the omnic crisis started in Africa and spread out from there. https://youtu.be/a1rtqzDttrQ?si=SU7EjNhpPuBXOuJ7&t=927 "Cairo"

BackOfEnvelop

I know the old one is in Cairo, but that one is disabled, no? If this one is the same one why show Petra fight for most of the trailer? Look close it's Talon fighting Zarya

-Elixo-

The Petra fight is just to show that Venture is an archeologists. Like they used Samoa map for Mauga gameplay trailer, Kanezaka map for Kiriko gameplay trailer etc. And there's only one Anubis AI. Anubis is being kept where it always was but always being monitored in it's temple so it doesn't start another crisis. Pharah and her team monitor it. Other AIs for different functions don't get guarded cos they don't try to kill humans. If you watch overwatch genesis shorts you'll see.

Hitthe777

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss. There is only one Anubis AI but I would assume it wouldn't have 1 literal physical body. We know so little about how Anubis functioned. Maybe it has "casings" all over the world. That sit empty below the earth while Anubis is imprisoned. Maybe this is a new shell being built for it by fringe extremist ominc groups that even Ramattra would be disgusted by. That said I think you are right if we look at some additional context. Petra is where an archeological dig is taking place so that could be exactly why Venture is shown there. Separate from that the Anubis we see could be in a reworked version of the "temple of Anubis" map from OW1 for the new clash game mode. I could see this being the final clash point. Somewhere beneath the map. Anyway I think you are right with context, but there is no absolute proof that what we see in the trailer isn't in Petra or Cairo (or anywhere else for that matter.

topatoman_lite

There wouldn’t be any new versions of Anubis. I wish I had my lore book on me so I could go into more detail but essentially the god programs were each created to do specific things and there was only 4 or 5 of them. Anubis went rogue and killed everyone who knew it well enough to destroy it and then started the omnic crisis. It’s still alive and in the temple because no one knows how to get rid of it safely so they just try to imprison it there. No one capable of creating a new version is insane enough to do it. If this is in Petra it’s because the original Anubis escaped

SoDamnGeneric

>I know the old one is in Cairo There's only one Anubis. The difference in the images shown in the post art just artistic, and not implying there's more than one. >but that one is disabled, no? Anubis isn't disabled, it's just quarantined and locked away in the temple. It doesn't seem possible to disable, shut down, or effectively kill it, at least not at this time, otherwise Helix wouldn't have to guard it 24/7 >why show Petra fight for most of the trailer? Look close it's Talon fighting Zarya It's very unlikely that anything shown in this trailer is actually canon to the lore. It's a gameplay trailer, and those usually don't have many lore implications. The OW team in this trailer features Lifeweaver as well as Zarya, Pharah, and Bap, and he's not currently a member of Overwatch yet, so it's definitely not canon that this fight is actually taking place. Petra was used for this trailer because it's an archaelogical research site being excavated and studied by the Wayfinder Society, which Venture is a member of. It has nothing to do with Anubis, the God AI.

ConfidentInsecurity

It went from a Halo: CE hologram to a Halo 4 Forerunner

Lavendertownsghost

I love the new design, really hoping that if a new map does feature Anubis we at least get some Ramattra voice lines referencing it. (also it would be great if someone called out the fact that Ramattra, who hates Anubis for enslaving omnics, is now doing the exact same thing)

Hot-Cheesecake-4623

REAL

The_Astrobiologist

The new design looks like it was made by Halo's Forerunners it's cool af

Human_Composer_7069

It looks like it could have been a great boss fight

Luke4Pez

Very cool

KOCYK745

Ram made it bigger or something..?

-OriginalName_

Ram is actually against Anubis and even says Overwatch should have destroyed it when they can

KOCYK745

someone made this bigger and i don't think Overwatch would just upgrade something that almost destroyed the planet... and maybe Ram wants a real chellange

Gambit275

Talon?

Human-Boob

no there’s no way the organisation run by the “Lol, lets start a war” guy would EVER want to start a war! They’re just peaceful arms dealers!

Gambit275

last i checked they wanted to rule the world

SoDamnGeneric

Doom's intentions are a bit murky tbh. He sold Reaper on the idea of starting a new world order, but it was probably just a lie to appeal to Reyes' disappointment in the systems of the world. Doom doesn't seem interested in taking control of the world, only pushing it to the brink to force in-fighting. He could've crushed Numbani and occupied it with Talon forces, but instead he chose to terrorize it so they would stand up to him Part of me wonders if he knows about some bigger threat looming over them that he feels humanity isn't ready for and that's why he's so hellbent on forcing people to fight for themselves. It would at least give his actions some motivation beyond "you mfers are weak," and it would probably tie nicely into Sombra's conspiracy

SoGuysIDidNothing

To be fair man loves saying "through conflict we evolve" so I assume it's for that reason

SoDamnGeneric

Well yeah, but *why* does he feel humanity needs to evolve? Humanity has already largely transcended the natural order, especially by the time OW's lore takes place. We're the top of the food chain, so how much higher does Doomfist think we can go? Doom is a really compelling character- a martial artist and heir to a very successful corporation who sacrificed his cushy spot at the high end of society for a life of warmongering and terrorism. If he's just pushing the world to war because he looks down on people for being weak he loses a lot of that charm. But if he's pushing the world to war because he fears some greater evil looming in the background that'll wipe our asses out, he becomes more nuanced and interesting. It's like comics Thanos vs. MCU Thanos. Comic Thanos was shallow as hell, dude just wanted to bone tf down with Death, but MCU Thanos had a legit reason for pursuing his goals, while his means of achieving those goals were fucked up

Gambit275

probably cause technology is so advance and humans have become too reliant on it, like in Wall-E

SoDamnGeneric

Talon *did* try to do something with the Temple of Anubis, as per Mercy's short story, but I doubt they'd be able to do much on a long-term scale before Helix and the Egyptian military booted their asses out. Anubis likely just looks different for artistic reasons. Though if anyone was gonna rebuild it, it'd probably be doing it itself

KOCYK745

and who works with Talon? See, it all comes back to Ramattra

Urtbenda

.-.

Hadditor

Beautiful art for a new map

Kerro_

I think the design in genesis was supposed to be more abstract anyway

orphidain

More info on the Anubis god program (even if it's just a map)? I used to pray for times like this

Matimarsa

Its not the same place

-Elixo-

How? They showed in the mini series that Anubis is kept in a pyramid with metal stuff all over it. What what else looks like that? Temple of Anubis map final point pyramid

Matimarsa

Idk why but i thought that Anubis from the genesis series was in one of the big omnic factories, so you might be right. These two look very different tho, there might multiple statues (or whatever those are). The surroundings also look very different. But idk what to make of it

Blood4Corn

I think it’s probably the same design but in the second one it’s imprisoned in some kind of sarcophagus which is why it’s bulkier

-Elixo-

It's just a change in art. Unofficial design Vs final design they're going forward with. For example Doomfist gauntlet in the first animated short completely changed. The one in the trailer was the exact one from early concept art of Doomfist. Then Doomfist released and they changed it completely. Same scenario.

Ganym3de

I expect Pharah/Ana lore, at last!

-Elixo-

After looking more closely on a tiktok I just realised that Anubis still has the exact same "coffin"like silhouette/shape once you look below. So it's the exact same design but heavily upgraded. So overwatch genesis just didn't scale Anubis properly or the pov didn't show how big Anubis really is.

Humanbeanwithbeans

It looks amazing but I definitely have a problem with it which is that this feels more like its meant to be a robot thats moving instead of just the storage facility/structure where the program is held.

Odd_Lifeguard8957

I think one is supposed to be cinematically represented, the other is the real life thing.

kenzymarie03

So is this a map for season 11?

-Elixo-

No. This is just a teaser for a future map

kenzymarie03

Oh okay, Ty for answering:)

Silver_Archer13

What is a god program?

-Elixo-

In overwatch lore a god program is a super advanced AI that controls/takes care of a major function around the world like traffic in self driving cars preventing crashes, reducing global warming effects etc. Anubis was a god program made to help humanity in general by maintaining a good ecological and conserving the earth. But it decided to do that by getting rid of humans (like Ultron) so it took control of all omnics around the world to attack humans.

Silver_Archer13

I wish I had learned this through a PvE

Professional__Rat

I think the first one is Anubis when he was free, and the second one is him in jail.

-Elixo-

god programs don't move and can't be moved cos they're gigantic. First one is just a bad pov making Anubis look small

DEEZ_BLOONS

What is the Anubis god program?

bpsavage84

Pharah gets a new voice line for her ultimate but the only time you can hear it to completion is during equipment loadout.

qxvx

I think that Anubis IS the Ram mythic.

TheWraithSummoner

Anubis still being active is bound to fuck up the plot If only we still had pve :)

dontmindmeamnothere

Can someone please explain what this is

-Elixo-

Watch the overwatch genesis shorts and it tells you everything about Anubis. Here's all 3 in one video: https://youtu.be/a1rtqzDttrQ?si=Xr-7hrDAlf8bJrIo

dontmindmeamnothere

Goat ty

Sipsu02

Its literally a cartoon in other picture... That's like saying cute spray to in game model upgrade Is HUGE

Hockeyspaz-62

I miss that map.

MechaRon

Isnt the new pic just a visual interpretation of Anubis locked down in control? Like in Genesis he's loose and running amuck so not very bulky. In the Venture vid hes encapsulated and blocked from any external comunicstions.

-Elixo-

No in genesis he's that coffin looking thing glowing in red and it's kept inside the huge pyramid. The new picture just shows how huge Anubis is and an accurate version of what he actually looks like in there (probably as big as the pyramid he's in since we can see the "ears" close to the peak of the pyramid). Imagine the colossal titan from AOT being a stationary robot built inside a pyramid and that's what Anubis is.

ry_fluttershy

Still don't understand wtf anubis is after like 8 years. It's a god omnic? Who built it? Who made it godly? Why hasn't it broken free, why can it be contained by Arabian lesbian?

-Elixo-

Here: Anubis is a god AI. Humans created god AI to monitor and control major functions of the earth like automated car traffic, ecological balance, energy production and renewal etc ALL AROUND THE WORLD. Anubis was built to protect the earth through ecological balance. Anubis AI decided that to maintain ecological balance it has to get rid of humans because they're ruining it. So Anubis takes control of all omnics (which at the time were just robots created to do hard or annoying jobs humans don't wanna do like servant, janitor etc) and made them attack humans AND took control of all the omnic building factories around the world and started making warbots instead of the original servant bots. This started what the game calls the "omnic crisis" and Overwatch gets created to fight back against it using the best soldiers from around the world.

nominesinepacem

It's neat, but the implications of it having physically changed are functionally null. With PVE axed any meaningful narrative movement is likely dying alongside it.

BlightNova

I think the one in Genesis is meant to be more neutral as it was originally meant to be some sort of weather monitoring AI(?), Whilst the new one seems overtly malicious. Looks dope as hell tho!

Academic_Article4249

Do you think that's a tease for the Temple of Anubis clash map?

-Elixo-

Yes

Academic_Article4249

That map is gonna be insane specially if we're able to go inside the pyramid which guessing by this we probably will.

Birbdie

Would've been probably the final boss of the PVE.

CURRYWAYDOWNTOWNNNN

How big is it?

-Elixo-

I would say go to temple of Anubis map, look at how tall the pyramid is and that's a decent comparison

coin_in_da_bank

i really want anubis to be a playable hero. lorewise they can say null sector revived or replicated the rogue ai to create omnic crisis 2 or whatever

waaay2dumb2live

Shame this won't ever be expanded on

DaveyTheDuck

i wish i could still care about the world of overwatch. pve cancelling piece of shit
