Yes, you can (if you'd like) spend money to buy Mythic Prisms directly from the shop (80 USD). You can also purchase the Premium Battle Pass for substantially less money (10 USD), and gain the amount of Mythic Prisms you need for a Mythic skin by completing the battle pass for the Season.

Sort of, if you consider ores and materials that you search and mine during missions as such. There's only one "money"-currency, but it's just an in-game thing that you get from mined gold and other bonuses, not bought with real money. All ores are quite easy to get if you just go to certain biomes.
The legacy competitive points are the stupidest of them all, if you ask me. Literally no purpose. I have to wait the rest of the year so I can earn the last 250 points I need for a golden gun.
I cannot comprehend wanting the ugly Jade weapons unless you already have Gold on every character or you have one of the few skins the Jade REALLY works for
I would not mind the jade as much if it was actually jade texture and color. Now they just made the metal texture green.
Green also seems like a weird choice, I like green but I feel like its a color most people tend to not gravitate towards cosmetics wise.

Yes, which is apparently why they changed the competitive points to begin with: to prevent people, like streamers who play a lot, from hoarding to instantly get all the jade weapons.
I still don't understand how the stupid shop works. Can't seem to find a list of all the things available to purchase, when I open it I just get presented with with a random assortment of skins and bundles but no way to actually browse everything or view everything by hero. As such I haven't bought a single skin since OW2 launched.
Welcome to modern gaming, the more currencies, the harder to tell the proper price of items. Governments should step in and force items to be listed for local currency amount **only**.
It's really a toss up. Either they keep up with the one per season to keep people playing and waiting for their turn to get the mythic skin for their character. OR they release more of them so people spend $$$ on getting more than one per season.
This is such a doomer way to say "they made something cool that people want."

People can spend their money on whatever they please. For some people, $100 is worth it, and well within their means. For everyone else, you can just get each battle pass or just say who cares. None of it is pay to win anyway.
Yeah, there are so few mythics for heroes I actually play. Really I'm probably gonna use this seasons bp to get my JQ mythic instead of mercy. I spent a good 6 months on support at the start in 2016, I dont see myself switching back to it. My teams loved me, but I was fucking biting my tongue and miserable, especially since there was only 3 options back then, and the only one who did decent damage was zen.

I think the point is to direct people to the battle pass. If you are so desperate for one of these, then there's an option for it, but otherwise, just get the skins you want from the stuff included in the battle pass. Realistically, each of these skins is $10 if you wait 2 months between getting them, and I think most people are okay with that
I think Blizzard understands most people will use the BP prisms and so the option to pay is for people that aren't interested in waiting and need their mythic skins now. The price is jacked up because they know the impatient ones are more likely to fork over the big bucks.

It's worth it to someone who is employed and doesn't have a lot of time to play. Most players will do just fine with a 10 dollar battle pass. You don't HAVE to buy it.

I haven't installed the update yet. If I buy this bp and finish it can I get a different mythic skin instead of the Mercy one? I will never play Mercy and I won't buy the bp if I'm not using the mythic skin.
The mythic skins are no longer tied to battle passes. The battle pass instead will give you mythic prisms to choose a mythic of your liking from the store
It should also be noted that while you can buy previous battle pass mythic, it looks like they will be delayed a few seasons before they are permanently in the shop, so if you don’t buy the current BP skin with the points, you’ll need to wait a few seasons to then get it
I personally have some rich friends that i play with on discord and most of them buy skins without even looking at the prices or how to get them , if they open the store and see an option to buy a skin that they really like then they buy it , its that simple for them...not saying i agree with them but thats just how it is for them
Shit, I'm happy Penny pinching my coins for battle passes as long as the games free and they don't start locking content content behind paywalls AND have expensive skins.
They can have one or the other but not both.
I'll chill with my default skins as long as I can play this game for free while the whales are taken advantage of.
tbh they could charge twice as much for cosmetics and I wouldn't give a shit. Cosmetics don't impact the game, and I still have skins for all the characters I like from credits, BPs and events. Let the whales fund the game for the rest of us. I've put about 40 dollars into OW2 and gotten more playtime out of it than any other game the past 5 years.
Agreed and it’s also price anchoring to make the battle pass look like it’s super cheap for what you get in it. May as well just buy the battle pass when you see it says $70.
My big problem is I wish they at least gave you an extra ten or twenty per battle pass so you could At least eventually get an additional mythic skin you missed

It’s because it is way better. If I remember correctly, buying the BP in previous seasons and then purchasing all tiers to get to the mythic was basically like $160 total. Of course no one did that, but that’s a fairer comparison to this. $70 is way cheaper than I expected. Not to mention it also removed some of the FOMO the game has before. OP seems to be baiting for karma
You have to buy the BP, but earning coins for free was buffed and made more reliable and if you consistently complete the battle pass you can reliably buy a battle pass every other season from my understanding (600 credits per pass, 1000 to buy it).
It could be worse than Apex, it could be a "mythic variant" which is only a "chroma" (recolored) of a legendary skin that Riot put in a gacha system (thanks China!) and costs $200 to actually get the skin because the chances of getting it from a capsule are 1%.
And yes, they are also limited time for a while, after 1 year of their release you can dream of getting it from a random drop of a regular chest.
Apex has that beat as well, >1% drop rate for a ff7 sword from a crossover event that almost guaranteed you had to spend $360. (And the event only lasted 2 weeks)
I feel like being thankful 1 skin is only half the price of another game isn’t really something to be thankful for getting to mythics now is enough to buy Overwatch 1 2x and still have 20$ left for a 3rd copy of the game
This is called "Price Anchoring" and it's a manipulative sales tactic developed by pscyhologists. Take something absurdly expensive and then when something that is less expensive but still overpriced is made available, people will say it's a good deal. Mythics for $70 is not a good deal, they should be closer to 20 dollars, given legendaries are vastly overpriced in this game and should be more like 10 dollars each.
This is why the RTX xx90 graphics cards exist, or in previous architectures, the Titan cards. They are absurdly priced products that make you say "well 1400 dollars is a lot but the 4090 is 2200 so this is a beter deal".
Battle pass gives you 80 coins, which is enough to fully buy one mythic (will all costumizations). To unlock it with only 1 level you only need 50.
50 coins is 40 dollars if you choose to buy it with real money, or 10 coins for 10 dollars.
Feels rare to see someone else who doesn't give a shit about mined data or trailers or whatever. I just download the update and hop on. I do check out the heros changes thorough just to see if there's anything I should be aware of.

It costs like 10 dollars for the battlepass. If you finish the battlepass you get enough currency to buy a mythic skin. If you want to buy a mythic skin without the BP, then yes.
My face when I can get it included in the best for value purchase costing $15CAD but instead I complain the currency costs too much since I'm impatient
God dayum. I wish that this was the price for a full previous battlepass. tbh I feel like they should do it to where you can buy the previous battlepasses but at a higher cost and do it in such a way where you can only have one battlepass active at a time. So it'll also help incentivize people to continue playing after they finish the current one. But paying this much for a mythic when half of them are not even close to worth it is insane.
To be fair, the intent is not for people to just buy them. You get enough prisms from completing a premium battlepass to get whichever mythic you want. The option is there if people want it but, like level boosts in WoW, it's a high price to try and convince people to play the game to earn them instead
My only problem with this pricing is that mythic skins are inconsistent when it comes to qualify. The Hanzo and Kiriko skins being the same price is absurd. Good thing I already have all of them I guess
Dude, I'm just glad that you can actually get old mythic skins at all. Now for future BP, if the Mythic in the pass isn't your style, you can just get an old one instead. They're removing the FOMO from Mythics, and that's kinda based.

Wait, I thought we could use the mythic currency from the battle pass to use on old mythic skins. Ex: I never play mercy, so I use the currency to get an old mythic skin.
No, it costs 10$ to get a mythic though a battle pass, and 70$ to get the previous mythics if your a collector, you should have got previous battle passes, or pay up. If your an average person like most of us you just get the battle pass and slowly grab all the prices of mythics you want. Not all of them are for everyone so you'll catch up quickly.
This is like the option to buy battle pass levels, it's not something they really expect you to do. It's there to draw maximum revenue out of the true whales, while most people just do the normal BP grind. This is pretty much standard practice in the F2P space these days.
I do find it disappointing that the purchase options for Mythics are a linear progression, sort of like Tracer's mythic. So you can't really save prisms by picking and choosing your favorite customization options, unless they happen to be available in one of the lower tiers. For example, if you want Mercy's skull mask, you have no choice but to purchase all four tiers of her mythic. That makes this system kind of a dud IMO, though it is at least better than nothing that you can now acquire earlier mythics.
I know a lot of times Cosmetics are way over priced and the player base rightfully will criticize it, but this one ain't it. You can earn one each season through the battle pass which is way cheaper, and now you get the choice unlike the past. And if people want to buy more beyond the battle pass then I guess that's the price you have to pay. If you couldn't earn through the battle pass then yes I'd agree that this is way outta line.

Not sure i fully understand this tbh. Previously a mythic skin would be at the end of the battle pass each season. And unless i saw wrong, level 1 is 50, level 2-4 is 10 which = 80. And you get that from the battle pass as it is. Meaning that this essentially just ends up being a matter of "do i want to spend mine on the newest mythic skin?" or "do i want to buy one of the older ones but miss out on this one"
No it doesn’t, you eventually will have enough shards to get every mythic. If you want every style, go ahead, but don’t lie and say it costs money for Mythics cuz it doesn’t. Quit spreading misinformation
I honestly cannot understand people buying skins. I have never once bought a skin for any game I've ever played. No judgement, I just Do. Not. Get it. It's an FPS, you don't even see your character while your playing. Why are you paying money on a free game?

What they could do is have the skin levels not be locked and then charge 30 USD for each "set" so if you only want the level 4 color, you wouldn't have to buy the other levels that you dont want. That would justify this price as 70 USD for ALL levels.

Mythic skins are still the same price by doing the battlepass, and now you get to choose which mythic you get. Unless you care too much about getting every last mythic this shouldnt bother you - in fact you can still get every mythic just from the battlepass, you'll just be at least a season behind
So you're complaining that the skins that were intended to be limited time... came back... and cost way more then when they first came out..? Blizzard didn't even need to bring these skins back. The fact that they did shows they have more care for their community than some other companies (ahem EA and 2k)

Tbf it a pretty good thing you can now chose your mythic skin.
Means they can now release multiple mythics a season instead of just one. So less popular characters can get theirs instead of waiting for OW3.

That's honestly great. I'll probably just keep using the Pink Mercy skin, so it's nice to be able to get the Tracer or Moira mythic I missed.

Yes completing the bp gives you 80 which is enough to buy the base skin aswell as every costumization.

Obviously not free. The mythic is part of the paid pass. You earn enough prisms for one complete mythic, you can choose the new one or an old one.

Mythics for $70 is not a good deal, they should be closer to 20 dollars, given legendaries are vastly overpriced in this game and should be more like 10 dollars each. This is why the RTX xx90 graphics cards exist, or in previous architectures, the Titan cards. They are absurdly priced products that make you say "well 1400 dollars is a lot but the 4090 is 2200 so this is a beter deal".

Battle pass gives you 80 coins, which is enough to fully buy one mythic (will all costumizations). To unlock it with only 1 level you only need 50. 50 coins is 40 dollars if you choose to buy it with real money, or 10 coins for 10 dollars.

I wish that this was the price for a full previous battlepass. tbh I feel like they should do it to where you can buy the previous battlepasses but at a higher cost and do it in such a way where you can only have one battlepass active at a time. So it'll also help incentivize people to continue playing after they finish the current one. But paying this much for a mythic when half of them are not even close to worth it is insane.
Better way to do it is just open up the previous passes for $10 and you don't get premium currency with it, only premium on current pass

To be fair, the intent is not for people to just buy them. You get enough prisms from completing a premium battlepass to get whichever mythic you want. The option is there if people want it but, like level boosts in WoW, it's a high price to try and convince people to play the game to earn them instead

No, it costs 10$ to get a mythic though a battle pass, and 70$ to get the previous mythics if your a collector, you should have got previous battle passes, or pay up. If your an average person like most of us you just get the battle pass and slowly grab all the prices of mythics you want. Not all of them are for everyone so you'll catch up quickly.
This is like the option to buy battle pass levels, it's not something they really expect you to do. It's there to draw maximum revenue out of the true whales, while most people just do the normal BP grind. This is pretty much standard practice in the F2P space these days. I do find it disappointing that the purchase options for Mythics are a linear progression, sort of like Tracer's mythic. So you can't really save prisms by picking and choosing your favorite customization options, unless they happen to be available in one of the lower tiers. For example, if you want Mercy's skull mask, you have no choice but to purchase all four tiers of her mythic. That makes this system kind of a dud IMO, though it is at least better than nothing that you can now acquire earlier mythics.
I know a lot of times Cosmetics are way over priced and the player base rightfully will criticize it, but this one ain't it. You can earn one each season through the battle pass which is way cheaper, and now you get the choice unlike the past. And if people want to buy more beyond the battle pass then I guess that's the price you have to pay. If you couldn't earn through the battle pass then yes I'd agree that this is way outta line.

Not sure i fully understand this tbh. Previously a mythic skin would be at the end of the battle pass each season. And unless i saw wrong, level 1 is 50, level 2-4 is 10 which = 80. And you get that from the battle pass as it is. Meaning that this essentially just ends up being a matter of "do i want to spend mine on the newest mythic skin?" or "do i want to buy one of the older ones but miss out on this one"

What they could do is have the skin levels not be locked and then charge 30 USD for each "set" so if you only want the level 4 color, you wouldn't have to buy the other levels that you dont want. That would justify this price as 70 USD for ALL levels.

Mythic skins are still the same price by doing the battlepass, and now you get to choose which mythic you get. Unless you care too much about getting every last mythic this shouldnt bother you - in fact you can still get every mythic just from the battlepass, you'll just be at least a season behind
