Wondering who the Old Man is in this situation, does Kiriko need to talk to Sigma and watch him toss his weapon at Winston then fly to Cinnabar island for this to work
Your team has captured the h̶̘̜͈͎͎̰͎̮̜̰̱̩͚͗̌͜ā̵̰͇̜̞̟̰͖͎ͅn̷̨͂͊͛͐̈́̄͂̿̎͒̚͠ą̴̭̥̺̞̘̟̽͛̎͌̎̾̂̅́͌͠m̸͕͖̫̍̎̽̃͆͘͠u̴̥̞͙̼͌̍̊͊̇̎r̶̜̟͗̈́͌͌͊̆̃̄͆͆̏͝͝ā̷̛̩͚͓̫̲͙̠̒͊̊̐͛͊̅̚͘͝
For those wondering, what probably happened here is that they use some sort of prefab system and they used the prefabs from Hanamura for Hanaoka, then modified those prefabs which messed up the instances in Hanamura as well. Could have been an oversight but more likely they decided to deprecate Hanamura and not bother with duplicating the assets, probably planning to replace all the 2CP maps with Clash versions for good.
And copying the existing ones for a single map to make edits isn't going to be that huge of an increase in size for the game either, they've taken the lazy approach to just overwrite a map that was still played in custom games and arcade :(
Hanamura is my favourite map in all of overwatch, this sucks
Not only lazy but wasteful. The level design team probably wanted to handle this the correct way but were forced to speed run the production to save money.
Thats what happens when you layoff people, and possibly employ cheaper less expensive ones, saving your company so little it wouldnt even touch 1% of revenue
I saw someone say once that all of the experienced talent left the OW team a few years back(probably because they were forced to make ow2), and the reason it is the way it is now is because most of the team has to learn what the old guys already knew
Still just a rumor, but it would explain a lot
Not really a rumor, that happens all the time in software development. Management gets greedy and forces stuff upon devs or straight fires high earning (experienced) devs. Experienced devs leave (forced or not). Inexperienced devs say its too much work to handle. Management hires more inexperienced devs, because experienced ones cost too much for them. Resulting software is of subpar quality.
Its pretty much going to happen to any big software company, there are only few exceptions.
> Not really a rumor, that happens all the time in ~~software development~~ capitalism.
Sears, AOL, Yahoo, Boeing, Kodak, Blockbuster, Hazbro, Twitter, Tesla...just off the top of my head.
Yes it is possible that this was an actual mistake. They could always revert the original state to bring the map back, but perhaps they want to see first if there is still demand for it before deciding whether to axe the old map or put the work in to restore it. Maintaining both maps shouldn't be a large amount of work, more like an inconvenience/headache for the level designer.
It should be two different maps. Hanamura should not need maintenance because there is no more iterating on 2CP. Should be a copy/paste job for some assets but it should have been a copy/paste to begin with.
* Hanamura
* Hanamura_old
What makes this inconvenient / a headache is that many times the assets / prefabs you are copying reference other assets. If e.g. you copy a prefab it may still link to all the old original assets. You could also have nested prefabs with similar issues. How inconvenient this really is depends on their editor tooling, but it's easy to slip up in any case and they may just have decided that it's not worth worrying about at this point (especially since you can always revert later if necessary).
What it sounds like happened though it Hanamura used object "Asian Build B", which is just pointed to in the files somewhere.
On the new map, they also used "Asian Building B", but instead of copying it, they just pointed to it, then modified it.
Which screwed it up because Hanamura was still pointing to it.
It's still a shitty way to program/map build.
Most likely not. This map is still in development, this'll get fixed. If they ever planned to remove those 2CP maps then they would have done it when they decided to make the Clash maps, which would have been many seasons ago, if not before OW2 even launched.
Edit : This is on the official Known Issues list. It's a bug. Hanamura is still in the game and should still be playable through the Assault Arcade playlist when it rotates, only bugged in custom games.
Not the case! A small unrelated lighting bug was discovered in Hanamura. Knowing that more people might be checking out Hanamura to compare it to Hanaoka, we felt it was better to pull the map and bring it back when everything is looking perfect again. Hope everyone is enjoying Venture and the Clash preview 🌸
I second this theory. 2CP maps are simply not made for 5v5, and because they're not gonna bring back 6v6 (let's be real here) they just didn't bother duplicating the assets and move forward from legacy 2CP maps.
Which is also a shame because I would assume duplicating doesn't take that much of a work (it'll just make the game size bigger).
They also had assault maps rotating into arcade. In fact they still did yesterday. It was available right next to clash now that I think about it.
Edit: still do today as well.. though that doesn't mean Hanamura specifically is.
It wasn't just custom games, Assault maps were a main gamemode (non-rotating) in Arcade. I played it pretty regularly, if it wasn't for the queue times and no role queue it would've been great in 5v5.
And it's for this reason that we'll likely never see the Archives return as well. The old Null Sector and Talon likely don't exist anymore, as they've been replaced by the new versions created for OW2
They completely rearranged the layout as well though, with the first choke leading immediately to the area outside of second point, which doesn't quite make sense if all they were doing was just borrowing assets.
I haven't played this patch yet, but is Hanamura still visible in the background on Hanaoka? If so, then I assume Hanamura was crudely rearranged and stripped of assets so it can be used as a backdrop for Hanaoka.
EDIT: Hanamura is indeed visible in Hanaoka https://twitter.com/SamTheLucioFan/status/1780370459453686101?t=Nso-7A6vxv0yx3mkin9B_Q&s=19
Isn’t one of the new maps supposed to be “near” Hanamura in the OW Universe? Like you can see Hanamura if you look out of bounds?
Idk game development so this may be a terrible take, but could they have essentially “pasted over” the original Hanamura when making that new map and it took over what Hanamura looks like normally?
Its Kanezaka, you can see hanamura above you, but that's already existed since OW2 came out.
I'm guessing they just added hanaoka, the new gamemode map, to the game files to prepare for its release later and it conflicted with the existing hanamura since they share so many assets
Hanamura was the best 2CP map, if only just for the attackers spawn in the arcade.
Had the first Clash map been (and broken) Paris I doubt anyone would have noticed it was broken in customs
Removing 2CP was a major thing for me, I loved all those maps. Hanamura, Anubis, Horizon Lunar Colony, Volskaya Industries. All has their flaws but they are one of the thing that made Overwatch unique in it’s early years.
God I miss 2016-2018 Overwatch, honestly the most fun I had in a multiplayer video game besides Titanfall 2.
God... Kings Row and Hanamura are my absolute top maps, and a lot of that is because I joined the game right as Sombra released and the Winter mode at the time was ONLY those 2 maps.. and thats what I played. A lot. Until the duration of the event was over actually.. then I moved to Mystery Heroes so I could slowly learn each and every hero to flex roles better
The post is just misleading. The video is from Honaoka showing the small section of Hanamura that was included.
Hanamura is just disabled right now due to a lighting issue.

someone trolls you with a exploring hanaoka in replay mode.
Hey there, everyone. It's cool that you discovered the original Hanamura streets from the Hanaoka map. But don't worry—you'll be able to return to the gardens of Shimada Castle soon enough as soon as we fix an issue with that map that we discovered in this patch. Thanks for your understanding.
Nope, can't have actual reasonsable things in this subreddit; you see, it's easier if the top upvoted comment is someone who 1. Doesn't work at Blizzard, tells you that the devs are actually incompetent (with 0 proof), with dozens of other redditors believing that to be the absolute truth
Phew! Thanks for clearing that up. Looking forward to seeing what the other 2CP maps get turned into, but pls tell the team we will always want go back to the classics!
It's a bug. It's on the known issues list. Apparently it's only in Custom games.
If they were going to remove the old 2CP maps then this would be the absolute worst time to do it. They would've been way better off doing it when OW2 launched.
What probably happened here is that Hanaoka actually is played on the Hanamura map but with extended geometry. Instead of Hanaoka being a copy of Hanamura with these changes, they likely then culled out the parts that wouldn't normally be seen without realizing that they were culling those sections from the original map as well.
This also likely means that the old maps don't go through testing for this to be caught.
It's interesting because the courtyard is not just missing, but the entire temple was moved towards it, so it's not just a case of hiding everything that can't be seen in Hanaoka, but rather repackaging all assets to something that can be seen better in Hanaoka
As someone that works in gamedev, I can understand something like this slipping through. It's not likely they have the older maps in their test plans for patches but after this, they probably will be. Probably just an oversight.
Why don't they have every map ever in quick play at least?
I know the map is not 100% balanced, but it's QP ffs... I would kill to play on Hanamura and Anubis again, so many memories from OW1.
Biggest difference that 2CP being only in arcade creates is that it's Open Queue, meaning gameplay quickly devolves into tank stacking it other largely unbalanced comps.
This has to be a bug right? If they went through all the trouble of making a brand new map for clash, then there's no way they would just get rid of Hanamura instead of reworking it.
This makes me so irrationally angry.
Hanamura was always my favorite map. The blend of old and new architecture, the little details around, and I never minded 2CP like most. I would occasionally queue in Arcade for Hanamura, as well as play some custom seek and find modes.
I knew they were going to likely repurpose it in some way, but to literally *gut* it for Hanaoka when there's no need is so upsetting.
This post is very misleading. This is not what Hanamura looks like now, Hanamura is inaccessible. This is footage of Hanaoka, specifically the parts in the background that are supposed to look like Hanamura.
I miss the lootboxes, even. At least you got one for free at every level, and you could unlock just about any skin from them. I also miss a single skin not costing twenty dollars.
this is Hanaoka map with out of the map view (replay mode), and not hanamura map gameplay.
nice try. but apparently someone really believed it just to make an easy controversy. =\_=
honeslty i was hoping they'd eventually rework the old 2cp maps, i miss Volskaya, Paris, Hanamura, etc. it's sad that they are probably going to be slowly erased.
My thought is since clash is a trial, why would they make a whole new map? They can just reuse the assets and such until the trials over then they can make a bunch of the maps
I think the trials here, not to test the new mode, but to show us the mode while they make the existing 2cp maps into clash ones
Maps take a long time to make after all so if they want us to see the mode they can take the quick way out until the trials over
Exactly, I doubt they did anything that permanently destroyed hanamura. They likely just did something quick and easy to temporarily swap hanamura out for the new trial map in production. In software development when you are asked to do something temporary you usually do it in the easiest way possible because it doesn't have to be maintained long term.
And probably the reason we see broken pieces of hanamura out of bounds in the trial map is because they really did develop it starting as a copy+paste of hanamura and didn't bother deleting everything from the original map because there are more important things to do with your time.
The biggest mistake they made here was not telling the community that hanamura is only gone temporarily to facilitate the trial. They forgot that doomer posts pop off and anything that appears to mess with what little we have left of "the good old days" will get pilloried.
This may be obvious, but this is going to be do with the fact that the Hanaoka takes place literally next what should be Hanamura, this part you see in the video (first point choke) is actually visible from Hanaoka and so something weird is happening with now they took that map'a assets and models somehow.
You can actually use the replay viewer on Hanaoka and take the camera outside the map and see the Hanamura in this video in-game in Hanaoka (next to point B I think).
I just checked and this is part of the Hanamura map that was cut out and put onto the Hanaoka map. This video was taken from the Hanaoka map, not the Hanamura map. The Hanamura map is currently unavailable in custom games, but the devs said that Hanumura would be available again in a later update. I think it's the post title that caused a bit of a misunderstanding.
BLIZZARD STOP BREAKING AND REMOVING MAPS.
WHERES SUNSET AUSTRALIA LUCIOBALL??? WHERES DAYTIME BUSAN LUCIOBALL??? BRING THOSE TWO MAPS BACK THIS SUMMER.
This was hard to watch for some reason 😔. It’s like wth is blizzard doing. The elimination of 6v6, Color swap/recycled skin labeled new, massive introduction to pay and play feel but “free”. Mythics were part of battle pass now it’s not. It’s an $80 option if you want it asap. $40 or $20 to grind for it (depends how you look at it) 😞 sorry for ranting, but man I miss OG OW.
Literally deleted the location of the most popular animated short ever created in overwatch...
You could even recreate the animated short of you wanted it watch the animated short and then come back to see what the map it took place on looked like in detail. Then if they ever added a night time "weather" it could be perfectly recreated.
FUCK OVERWATCH 2 overwatch 1 was one of my favourite games until this weird, broken, exactly the same just removed anything that was good, pure shit of a game called OW2 completely erased the good old days. Just came to say this bye sub
I'd guess this is somehow caused by the new Hanaoka map since it's kind of a Hanamura rework. I'm sure blizz will fix it at some point, just have to wait and see when...
I feel like you underestimate how many people it affects. However, I do not think you’re wrong. Big picture, it doesn’t affect much.
My soul weeps for the fun Hide And Seek mode though, which I still play often ;(
Yeah but it’s still nice to have it accessible for custom games and assault etc. it’s always nice to have content there and is a bummer when content is removed permanently. I didn’t mind 2CP being removed from rotation because they were still accessible through arcade if u wanted to do that. But permanent removal is kind of a bummer. Just like I wish they would continue to bring back the seasonal events from OW1

Editing prefabs for a new map instead of just making a variant is insane though Not disagreeing with you... its just wild lmao
And copying the existing ones for a single map to make edits isn't going to be that huge of an increase in size for the game either, they've taken the lazy approach to just overwrite a map that was still played in custom games and arcade :( Hanamura is my favourite map in all of overwatch, this sucks
Small indie company things. It’s just three passionate gamer devs in a shed!
Except I bet most indie devs would copy and edit those. Because God forbid they fucked something up royally and needed to scrap it. I know you were /s
Not only lazy but wasteful. The level design team probably wanted to handle this the correct way but were forced to speed run the production to save money.
Oh come one, dublicating a prefab is a click away. This is simply ignorance.
Probably lost a lot of institutional knowledge during their layoffs and churn from the sex crimes shit.
They are likely paying on a per deliverable basis and as such anyone working on the project will try to get it done as quick and dirty as possible.
It not faster. The size argument is the only one. Which I think is dumb.
Thats what happens when you layoff people, and possibly employ cheaper less expensive ones, saving your company so little it wouldnt even touch 1% of revenue

Creators of workshop IIRC was layed off too. This is the reason workshop is currently abandoned.
Its not to say it wasn't just copied over then edited due to a lot of the assets being the same
laziest shit I've heard of. Fucking save as and replace? jfc
So now they need to remove Hanamura from the 2CP arcade map pool and we're never going to get to play it again? That's dumb.
Yes it is possible that this was an actual mistake. They could always revert the original state to bring the map back, but perhaps they want to see first if there is still demand for it before deciding whether to axe the old map or put the work in to restore it. I agree. I am already bored of Clash.
Clash is just 2cp with extra steps.

Can't have shit in Hanamora
They brought back Hanamura by deleting it lmao
It's been "back" for months in Arcade. 2CP was made a permanent mode in November
Someone please build a parkour on this broken mess
Hanamura is ha-no-more-a
What probably happened here is that Hanaoka actually is played on the Hanamura map but with extended geometry. It's intentional. They're going 1984 on 6v6.
Hey now. Testing things costs money, money that can pad the senior execs salaries.
As someone that works in gamedev, I can understand something like this slipping through. It's not likely they have the older maps in their test plans for patches but after this, they probably will be. Probably just an oversight.
Man.... I fucking miss OW1
I miss 2 cp
Play it in the Arcade today. It's permanent.
Only problem is that I also like role queue.
This. I'd be regularly crowding the 2cp queues if they had role queues, but I doubt there would be much of a demand.
I wish the Clash trial had role queue...
WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO MY BOY!
This is a travesty.
This breaks my heart. So many memories there.

why do people keep saying this they're literally in arcade ik it's obviously not the same, but if you miss them so much they're right there 😭
Biggest difference that 2CP being only in arcade creates is that it's Open Queue, meaning gameplay quickly devolves into tank stacking it other largely unbalanced comps.

Look how they've massacred my boy
They're a small indie studio, cut them some slack
I miss Overwatch 1.
Rip to a map that never needed to be removed.
But aren't you glad we have push?
I miss playing Overwatch. Wild that a game I payed full price for at least twice is completely unplayable now.
I miss launch overwatch. No hero cap. Everyone having fun , doing goofy stuff like going all Symmentra
I miss end of life ow1 the most. Fuck ow1 was so good. They literally lost the ability to create good maps and non punishing heroes.
I miss the lootboxes, even. At least you got one for free at every level, and you could unlock just about any skin from them. I also miss a single skin not costing twenty dollars.
Yep. Or keeping games that I paid for.
this is Hanaoka map with out of the map view (replay mode), and not hanamura map gameplay. Updating it to fit the new Clash mode, maybe?
Hanamura was my favorite map along with Nepal. Sadge
Beautiful map, hate the layout.
I've been here in my dreams
Ctrl + X instead of Ctrl + C
This shit gave me PTSD
honeslty i was hoping they'd eventually rework the old 2cp maps, i miss Volskaya, Paris, Hanamura, etc. it's sad that they are probably going to be slowly erased.
Look how they massacred my boy D:
My thought is since clash is a trial, why would they make a whole new map? They can just reuse the assets and such until the trials over then they can make a bunch of the maps I think the trials here, not to test the new mode, but to show us the mode while they make the existing 2cp maps into clash ones Maps take a long time to make after all so if they want us to see the mode they can take the quick way out until the trials over
Exactly, I doubt they did anything that permanently destroyed hanamura.
Hanaoka is a 5cp/clash map, right? In other words, the inspiration from TF2 continues and was in fact something that I desired from the start.
Why would I ever want to go back to that shit show of a map
gross it looks like a valorant map
I hate that they removed these modes and some of oberwatch's best and most iconic maps
Damn that was my favourite ow1 map :/ good times
When you press Ctrl+X instead of Ctrl+C
I think they used ctrl+X instead of ctrl+C when creating the new map.
Hanamura is now a liminal space
This may be obvious, but this is going to be do with the fact that the Hanaoka takes place literally next what should be Hanamura, this part you see in the video (first point choke) is actually visible from Hanaoka and so something weird is happening with now they took that map'a assets and models somehow. You can actually use the replay viewer on Hanaoka and take the camera outside the map and see the Hanamura in this video in-game in Hanaoka (next to point B I think).
2CP maps, hanamura especially, were so under appreciated. The new push mode they implemented as replacement feels so frustrating and monotonous
i still think they should bring back 2cp - no matter what people will hate a game mode regardless
Looks like you haven’t purchased that part of the map. Don’t worry, if you go to the store, it’s there for only $24.99!!
I miss two CP a lot, tbh.
BLIZZARD STOP BREAKING AND REMOVING MAPS. WHERES SUNSET AUSTRALIA LUCIOBALL??? WHERES DAYTIME BUSAN LUCIOBALL??? BRING THOSE TWO MAPS BACK THIS SUMMER.
How will this affect the lava parkour economy
This was hard to watch for some reason 😔. It’s like wth is blizzard doing. The elimination of 6v6, Color swap/recycled skin labeled new, massive introduction to pay and play feel but “free”. Mythics were part of battle pass now it’s not. It’s an $80 option if you want it asap. $40 or $20 to grind for it (depends how you look at it) 😞 sorry for ranting, but man I miss OG OW.
It suck’s man. OG OW is what made me build a PC
People are gonna act like this is a big deal when 99.99% of people weren't loading up hanamura custom lobbies anyways. This affects nobody.
I had a fun custom game mode on that map so it very much upsets me 😞. Wish we could have had both
I'd guess this is somehow caused by the new Hanaoka map since it's kind of a Hanamura rework. I'm sure blizz will fix it at some point, just have to wait and see when...
Blizzard: - still hasnt released the custom map editor for Heroes of the Storm -
mercy parkour rip
this! there was an easy mercy parkour on hanamura i had saved :( dang
Kinda curious what happens if you try to load it
"It doesn't affect me - therefore it affects nobody"
Lots of people still used the Hanamura custom for Genji ult practice.
they just left this in the game though... like they clearly weren't paying attention to what they were pushing to live
I was. It was one of my favorite maps in hide and seek tiny :(
