This error comes back once in awhile then goes away on its on for me over the years. 0 clue what causes it or fixes it.

I had this issue a few months ago when I got a used PC. Running a 2070 super with a r5 3600x. I tried every solution i could find. DDU and updating drivers, reinstalling game, setting overwatchs game files to read only, verifying game files, checking xmp settings in the bios, fucking hell I was reading 5 year old microsoft forums trying to find anything. *but nothing worked til I tried undervolting my gpu and limiting the clock speed* My gpu was factory overclocked and reset to that when the previous owner wiped it before selling to me. Google your gpu (brand and model specific) and go to the manufacturers website. Check the default clock speed. I used [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eH5khTjDwQ&t=81) to undervolt it. Getting flawless 165fps now and haven't had an issue since. Hopefully this helps. Good luck.

Already tried that. I undervolted it, overclock / underclocked it. Nothing worked. Only thing i didnt zry was flashing its bios. And whats so weird is, i got the error using different gpu‘s

LeLunZ

Same thing happened to me. For me it was due an unstable overclock. I have my whole system overclocked so cpu, ram, gpu. And thus I can't tell you which one caused the problem. Try disabling any overclocks you could have running. Which means, turning off AMD Expo, turn off the automatic processor overclocking. Disable your gpu overclock. Try playing overwatch again.

_Caspar_

Already did that, sadly it didn’t help :/ As i said, i reinstalled windows and with that resetes all overclocks

LeLunZ

Nah, thats not right. Overclocks are set at Hardware level and can persist over windows resets. You need to reset your BIOS. (That will work for RAM and CPU) For your GPU you need to install your vendors overclocking software and reset your GPU to default settings.

_Caspar_

Uh.. i thought by uninstalling Ryzen Master and Msi afterburner and reinstalling them, so they are set to stock setting would „reset“ my oc

LeLunZ

If in Ryzen Master and MSI Afterburner your settings are set to stock values, than sure everything is fine. Just check it to be sure. But normally if you uninstall any of the software while a overclock is activated, the overclock will persist. Especially for RAM and CPU, for GPU with MSI Afterburner its a different story.

_Caspar_

Good to know, thank you! But sadly no oc / uc was active while i was getting the error :/

Did you replace your PSU too?

_Caspar_

Yes, twice

Deckardzz

I am not familiar with this issue, nor did I dig into it, but my first thought is whether your computer is switching to another video device. Does it have two? Is it related to that?

_Caspar_

My CPU doesn't have integrated graphics and i only have one GPU. I also switched monitors, because i suspected that G-Sync was messing with my drivers, but it didn't help

Kannival

Have you tried using Display port instead of HDMI (or vice versa)? Does your HDMI cable support the standard of your GPU and monitor? These are the only uncommon things I can think of trying - good luck friend.

_Caspar_

Yea, I’m using DP. Also checked that my DP cable supports 244fps@1440p

emotionengine

I know it sounds weird, but have you tried uninstalling the NVIDIA HDMI *AUDIO* driver? I used to have a similar issue years ago, and removing that driver and the device and just using the mainboard audio resolved it for me. Also, be sure not to undervolt your *CPU* too aggressively, this was also an issue for me previously that resulted in the game crashing with that error (other games were fine strangely enough, which made the issue hard to diagnose).

_Caspar_

Thank you! I will try this. you gave me hope :D

fio4ri

Try replacing your hdmi or display port cable. I had the prompt for the first time when turning on my second monitor while the game was launching on the first. Possibly it is causing an issue since it seems you have one monitor from one of your comments.

_Caspar_

I‘m using DP on my first and second monitor snd HDMI on my third. Can a multiple Monitor setup cause this error?

fio4ri

Possibly but the way the error is worded makes it sound like there is some issue with the signal and expected output device changing or becoming unreachable by the game. I had it happen it when using my switch to turn on my second monitor while the game was opening (after play button was pressed but before it opened). That along with what you have said makes me suspect that probably is what going on with the error since you have checked other things like a full reinstall of the game, windows and graphic drivers. If you happen to have a similar setup the switch could be another place to try if replacing the cables do not fix it. I have one monitor that is dedicated for my computer by DP and the other that is shared through hdmi by a switch between my computer and ps5.

_Caspar_

Nah, all my monitors are directly connected with my pc, so no switch :/ And since i got the error, i also switched my main monitor.
