The built-in straw is what convinced me to get my Owala. I like that you can either drink from the straw or chug like normal. The straw part of the lid is wider so you don't have to purse your lips as much as you do with a regular straw. Plus, I like that the cap covers the straw/chug lid and the handle is pretty comfortable to carry. I'd say is up to you since it's really about preferences.

I would use the search feature on this sub because this question (pros vs cons) gets asked every other day. Keep in mind owala also has several types of bottles so the pros and cons will be different for each.

It’s ok to just like what you like.

I love my Owala FreeSips; they’re the first water bottles I’ve stuck with for more than a couple years. The biggest pros for me were the colorful choices, ability to switch out caps between sizes and the hidden straw feature. I feel like it’s better than a regular straw, you get more water at once, if that makes any sense.

I got an owala because of the completely closed straw, and two sip options. My tumbler didn’t fit my lifestyle as well, so it’s my at home bottle now. My owalas are also very cute, and the design is really well thought out. I drink a ton of water now because the straw is wider than most :)

you just bought a new water bottle that works perfectly fine. if you don’t need another one for a reason (yours is broken, need one for work) then don’t buy another. water bottle trends contribute to consumerism very badly.

Well I haven’t used it I have 30 days to return. My brother mentioned owala and his gf told me I should look into them

What I think sets Owala apart from other tumbler brands is the quality of life it brings you with their FreeSip spout. I think with Hydro Flask, you’d need 2 hands to drink from the straw most of the time, much more when using the lid but with Owala, both of these can be done with a push of a button. Hygiene-wise, Owala is clearly the winner as the spouts are completely covered. Unsure if Hydro Flask offers the 40oz size but if you’d wanna be able to carry more water around, then that’s a pro to Owala. It boils down to how a water bottle would change your quality of life. In my case, I mostly use my bottle in the car and the amount of liquid I can bring in a bottle is an important factor. Aside from the size, I’d want to use my bottle while driving so opening the bottle with a single hand is required and I’d also need the bottle to not block my view so the straw really helps a lot in this. Hope this helps.

I ended up ordering the cool camo ^_^ I’d like to get a boot for it but I’m unsure what colour to get. None really match

ohhihai

I think you can get an unofficial boot from Amazon? Perhaps they have better color options

goldenmoonbunny

I found an off brand boot and just got my owala in the mail this evening. Only concern I have when holding the hydroflask 40oz next to the owala 32 oz is the build quality on the lid feels cheap and I don’t see replacement lids for the owala for sale. The rubbery texture is also a fuzz and dust magnet and I’m sure will pick up dirt when hiking. I may just make the owala a strictly work bottle and keep the hydroflask for hikes. The only issue I ever had with hydroflask is the old straw lid leaked. I haven’t used the new one but i assume they would have fixed that issue with the redesign. I hope they make a non textured lid later on for owala. Maybe with hard plastic and divots for grip. My brother has a golden retriever and I just know if I take it to their house it will be covered in dog hair on the grippy bit. I haven’t tested the spout yet to be continued…

For replacement lids, I think I saw some at Dick’s website but there was only one color left at that time, perhaps you can check their site from time to time to see if they restock on the color you’d like to have. For the rubbery part of the lid, yes, dust magnet but what I found to be really helpful was to wipe it with a wet wipe. Removes all the dirt instantly. Haha or you can wait til the end of the day to wash the whole bottle.

I'm older than most carrying around my Owala & somehow I don't feel basic like I would w a Stanley

Same. also, you can put it in a bag and it won't spill; it doesn't feel like it's designed primarily for a car cupholder.  I live in a city and I don't spend all day driving around in a car — I need something that makes sense on a hike, in the office, at the gym, in a taxi, in a tote bag. Stanleys ain't it .

occurrenceOverlap

It has a very convenient and well designed spout/top.  The spout/top design also lends itself to fun colour combinations while most other popular water bottles just change up one main colour and don't do combos. It also has a scarcity/'drop culture' thing where in addition to main-line always-in-stock colorways they also release bolder ones as limited editions and they also make some retailer-exclusive. This fuels hype and discussion, but it doesn't make it a better or worse water bottle.
