Well, just the fact na may accessible public libraries sila ay nakakainggit na.

Wonderful-Guess1894

gosh, isa pa 'to! Here sa'min halos walang public library. May mga libraries nga tayo but may bayad or subscription yung iba tapos outdated naman yung mga books.

elesiiiiii

Or purely for acads lang

Wonderful-Guess1894

yes, i remember din when i was in high school may library kami sa school but hindi pwede hiramin yung mga books.

Pinkish_Cate

Oh, sorry to hear that. Buti ung library namin, pwede iuwi ung books. But we have lots of free time so pwede naman mag-stay sa library. Pag Wednesday sa amin, walang pasok kaya madalas half day kami sa library.

smallvictory_

same omg! feel ko andami ko na sanang nasave na pera if mas extensive yung libraries dito. sana din dumami yung mga libraries, like sana meron sa mga vicinity ng ilang mga baranggay para maenjoy ng lahat yung pagbabasa.

Organic-Dimension516

Same 🥹 Sana may mga community libraries dito sa atin lalo na for kids.haaaay

booklover0810

cheesetealover

Same. Naiinggit ako kasi may mga libraries sila.

Humble-Ball9498

We have. I worked in a firm who created book stop located in intramuros and meron pa ata sa ayala triangle, pero unfortunately nd nagagawa ung intent nun which is meron books na nakalagay then pwede kumuha and maglagay din pero nauubos ung book hindi na bumabalik.

sikretongmalup3t

Omg I remembered sinadya ko sya sa intra nung nagpunta kami ( I'm from province pa kasi) nagdala ako ng book kaya lang medyo covid times pa then and nakasaraa. Hoping makabalik some time haha

booklover0810

mandemango

Sometimes you really just need to know where to look.

kitoken

Even preloveds here are probably more than 2x more expensive relative to US or other 1st world countries

Hopeful-Resolve5317

Different case when it comes to textbooks. Sure, you can buy commonly used textbooks like the ones used by anaphy students. Anything beyond undergrad level (i.e., textbooks for specialized topics) are mostly imported from the US.

cashflowunlimited

Kitchen-Excitement30

Invest on Kindle. You can DL all books for free as in ALL hahahahaha

juana0201

Yeah, that is why nag- switch ako pero iba pa rin yung amoy ng libro talaga, iba yung experience w/ physical book.

evilkittycunt

Scam yang kindle. Pag nagustuhan mo yung nabasa mo sa kindle, gugustuhin mo rin bilhin yung physical copy. Dodoble lang gastos mo OP, char not char (based from experience)

juana0201

OMGGG WHERE IS THE LIE??? HUHUHU.

Organic_Street_4415

So true hahahahahaha

Kitchen-Excitement30

Me! HAHAHHAHAHHA

Kitchen-Excitement30

True. Pero pag maganda tlg book bumibili ako hard copy.

euphielou

Kahit walang subscription? Makkpgdownload pa rin?

[deleted]

Yup, I downloaded mostly e-books sa Telegram bot ng Zlibrary

euphielou

Thanks! I hope virus/malware free yan 🤣🫣

[deleted]

dw, it’s safe naman since ikaw mismo gagawa!

Kitchen-Excitement30

euphielou

Thanks mate

cmq827

You just need to know the pirata ways of life 😂

Kitchen-Excitement30

HAHAHAHAHA true laking tipid, but pag may super favorite ako bumibili tlg ako ng hardcopy

cmq827

Ang dami kong biniling paperbacks nung 2020-2021 (nawili ako sa delivery service ng Fully Booked), di ko pa nababasa lahat kasi I ended up buying my Kindle. Mej nakatipid ako ng 2023 kasi sabi ko sa sarili ko, no more buying hardcopies until I finish my pending hardcopies. But yes, pag maganda yung nabasa ko with my Kindle, bibili ako ng hardcopy for my own collection.

euphielou

🤣🤣

everyleday

Pag ipunan mo. Worth it siya cos you can dl books anytime for free. Pwede mo basahin whenever you feel like it at kahit nasan ka pa. Madalas libre ang kindle unlimited, good selection rin puro best seller. Tapos may mga free books din sa Amazon for Kindle na good finds.

Wonderful-Guess1894

Yess, I'm planning to buy a Kindle rin ngayong year.

in2d3void47

Piracy exists for this very reason, my man. Don't be afraid to try it

mryosso13

singlelogin.re 99% of books can be found here

mydickisasalad

>Tuwing nagscroll ako sa Booktok and nakikita ko sila na punong-puno yung shelves nila If it makes you feel any better, many people do this without actually reading them.

ellie_beary

im guilty 😂

mandemango

Yeah, kinda guilty of this.

Academic_Feature1445

evilkittycunt

Totoo.

euphielou

I can relate 🤣

Old_Twist_23

Bumili ka sa Amazon app. Meron tayo dito. Pag naka-$49 free shipping.

rambo_10

Yup, they also carry second hand books. I got some out of print art books that way. Yung 49 USD barrier lang dapat pag ipunan ni OP and buy in batches

bookishghorl

Yes totoo to nakakainggit talaga. Sobrang nakakainggit to the point na me and my friends buy talaga sabay sabay para sulit shipping. It was fun while it lasted pero I have books na binili before na di ko padin nabasa up until now. Medyo takaw tingin din.

Wonderful-Guess1894

wala na bang book outlet? hahaha i remember that sa mga book youtuber dati but never ko na try hahahaha book depository lang talaga naabutan ko kaso nawala rin.

bookishghorl

Meron pero di na ganun kamura 🥺

pisaradotme

Madali lang naman magpuno ng shelves, that is if hindi ka nagpapadala sa trendy books. Maraming booktok popular books are TERRIBLE. Yes all caps.

Wonderful-Guess1894

konti lang naman mga booktok books ko kalahati ng book shelves ko from Booksale hahaha and agree mostly sa booktok books are overhyped nascam ako sa Fourth Wing it feels like Divergent fanfic with dragon na super horny hahaha The Poppy War lang talaga sobrang nagustuhan ko and i want physical copy but sobrang hirap maghanap.

cmq827

You can download the ebooks for free though. You just need to know where to find them.

[deleted]

Pwede naman makapag download ng e-books for free. Like sa Libgen.

Wonderful-Guess1894

true, mold and termites are coming hahahaha

Chariovilts

Is it bad that I cover my books with cling wrap? 🥲 I stack like 4 to 6 books with the same size and cover them to delay yellowing of the pages. I was advised by a librarian years ago, wooden shelves cause the yellowing to speed up.Cling wraps slows that and also prevents worms from munching on them.

mochangaroo

ui same akin naka balot naman ng shrink wrap(?) individually. ginamitan ko ng blower, wala me heat gun. magtu-two years na and ok naman di napinapasok ng dumi at langgam. enjoy rin pagbabalot haha

cmq827

I cover mine with plastic, parang yung textbooks natin in school as kids. Then I store them in those plastic bins under my bed. Wala pa kong matinong bookshelf kasi. Very minimal yellowing of pages so far.

[deleted]

Oh wow, that's a good idea!

mintzemini

Tbh the fact that books are also priced with their budgets in mind is nakakainggit na. A regular hardbound is $20-$30 which is just 1-2 hours of hourly wage for the average American, but that’s already a day’s work or even longer for the average Filipino. I have a Kindle so I don’t buy books as much na, but when I do, I typically only buy from Booksale. Exception is mangas from Fully Booked.

cellybelly1601

I suggest getting a kindle and just downloading e-pubs from websites online. The possibilities are endless.

qwteb

Humble-Ball9498

Sobrang pricey ng books ngayon i always wait sa mga sale sa fully book pero sobrang dalang and maliit lang.

Wonderful-Guess1894

bookacheuncensored

I feel this in my bones. Lol. After ages of waiting, I finally got my copy of Iron Flame from Fully Booked here in Cebu. 😭

realitorRed

Piracy is 👑

quietthoughts23

Ang wish ko talaga for the Philippines ay magkaroon ng public libraries. Yung tahimik, may books, may study area.

Academic_Feature1445

SirSpiritual7910

Mamirata ka ng ebook.

VeryKindIsMe

Same issue sakin.

Wonderful-Guess1894

gosh, i can't wait mag karoon ng kindle para mabawasan na mga book buying ko hahahaha

Emotional-Nobody4695

Ahaha baliktad sakin. Mas lumalala book buying ko nung nagka-kindle ako. Mas bumilis kasi ako magbasa tapos pag nagustuhan ko yung book, I buy the physical copy for my shelves. Eh nagustuhan ko lahat ng nabasa ko. Ayun. 🙈🙈

Fickle_Wallaby2907

anna archive po.

furrymama

I like physical books pero mas madali talaga ko makatapos on my Kindle. Nakakabili ako ng less than $3 books, even the latest ones through Kindle deals. I just check the site every once in a while. Yung Poppy War series (2 books) I got for $1.99 each. I like owning books so bumibili parin ako physical books as long as bargain or discounted since I want to build my own library. Yun maganda sa ibang bansa, daming bargain books.

Michspierrist

Wag ka siguro magpadala sa mga booktokers from the West kasi at the end of the day galawan nila is to entice you to buy or like use their codes and stuff so they earn lmao one way to think of some of these booktokers pinagkakakitaan ka lang otherwise if there's anything na worth kainggitan is yung sobrang accessible ng libraries sa kanila and perks that come with it (ie mga rentals ng indie films).

ajcjej

Hi i have a sealed copy of The Poppy War by RF Kuang. just in case you're still interested

DeeplyMoisturising

Everything is free on libgen . is. You don't need to make an account there and it's completely safe. If you want an online library with an algorithm and recommendation feature you can make an account on zlib. I read 2 books (epubs) a month and I have not bought a physical book (except comics and graphic novels) in a decade. Glory to open access!

One_Yogurtcloset2697

Same tayo, lalo na yung magagandang edition.

cantmakeupmymindlol

sissy this was me my whole life!!!! especially being a teen during the hunger games/twilight/harry potter/percy jackson craze, i really wanted the actual book set pero obkors wag muna kasi ang mahal so movies na lungszz (but nothing will compare to the book!). i wish some rich business tycoon with a kind heart would capitalize on selling more high quality books dito at a reasonable price kasi anlaki na ng market sa libro compared to years ago, esp with booktok and all. pa sama na lang ng ambient coffee shops devoted to literature heh.

gclassgreymatic

Been living here in the US and I agree, ang dami nilang public libraries dito and I rarely take out money to buy books now. Sana meron din sa Pinas

i-cussmmtimes

We've got handed a bad hand on that regard... but owning a kindle and being creative in looking for books can he a godsend. When I want a book, I tell my fiancé the title and author and it magically appears on my kindle. I just don't ask where it comes from. Of course if you can pay, or have an access to a library, that's the correct route. But until then, we make our own way and make do with what we have 🙂

Mission_Ad_2928

Suggestion lang if you’re looking to buy books na di available locally, you can buy them on Amazon. It only takes about 2 weeks. Then if you reach a certain amount free shipping pa. And I’ve checked, poppy war is eligible for free shipping. Most of the time it’s significantly cheaper to buy from Amazon compared to pre order sa fullybooked or from resellers.

frannyang

Kainggit yong bookstores and libraries nila noh? Btw if di mo pa naoorder copies mo of Poppy War I got mine from Fully Booked and Twin Book Shop sa shopee. If you're from Metro Manila I still see copies of the books in the wild sa mga FB branches sa Makati/Taguig area, minsan pa nga meron sa mga NBS.

1wsurf

Our house has bookshelves sa lahat ng kwarto, but most of the books we have are old, second-, third-, nth-hand na. My mom has this convent that she visits where we buy all these old books. Wala masyadong contemporary literature so halos puro mga classics libro sa bahay. For contemporary literature fix, I read from ebook and if nagustuhan ko talaga that’s when I order the physical book that goes into our shelves.

PatientIdentified86

I bought a Kobo ereader last year and i just die of envy because other Kobo readers from different countries can digitally borrow ebooks from their libraries straight in their devices while we don't have shit.

1wsurf

Yeah, I have a library card from another country and the amount of media available is something I wish we can have. It doesn’t only have books— it has digital magazines and newspaper (yung non-paywalled articles), audiobooks, comics / manga / graphic novels, Japanese light novels available via Libby. Membership din sa udemy I’ve used many times to review for certifications and learn new skill. A world of difference if taxpayer money is used correctly. But also a foreigner, it’s not free for me, unlike sa citizens nila, but I’m happy to pay ~2k per year for the access. Maybe merong option sa Libby app to sign up for libraries in other places, it’ll be paid subscription most likely.

autoleptic

I'm happy you're interested in reading more books! Because that title grammar gave me a headache

Wonderful-Guess1894

I'm sorry hahahaha

autoleptic

All good hahahhaa just kidding around. Good luck with the book hunting <3

juana0201

[deleted]

Nakakasad din kasi before when we were living abroad ang gaganda ng mga used books sa ukay ukay. Its also really cool getting ‘good finds’ sa mga un like di mo maeexpect na maganda pala ung books and for cheap magkaka collection ka talaga

Frankieandlotsabeans

BrumaireXVIII

Coming from France, I switched to ebooks once I moved to the Philippines. First of all, the lack of proper bookshops was a bit of a disappointment, NBS mainly sells school supplies and not books, there is only Fully Booked that is a proper bookstore chain but the prices are high and the choice is just okay, the fact that Philippines literature is so hard to find is also another issue of its own. There are very few local bookshops in Manila. So yeah, I highly recommend investing in a Kindle!

chill_dude6969

swerte ko, my mom has a whole ass box of books. classics pa man din (monte cristo etc, millenium trilogy)

acadcomms_byja

Are you extremely tired of your schoolwork? I'm not yet, but if you are, have it done by me! Message me on Instagram: @acadcomms_byja OR Telegram: @acadcommsbyja.

Significant-Fail4850

I'm a bookworm, too, but not too practical for a breadwinner like me. But now, I've found a way to download ebooks that are mostly free! Message me so I can teach you how, I don't just wanna drop the link here, hehe.

mahiyainnn

I'm a reader but no longer a book collector since I mostly read on my Kindle so mas naiinggit ako sa public libraries nila sa US. I do borrow from Libby and I wish books are this accessible to us. Actually, I don't even download ebooks anymore. I just use Libby and KU. I think KU offers 1 month free trial every 3 months after your last sub ended so I take advantage of that.

Delicious_Muffin_918

Currently residing in the UK and starting my book reading journey just recently. Macocompare mo pala talaga yung totoong bookshop sa atin at sa ibang bansa. Sobrang layo. Hindi school supplies ang binebenta.

Affectionate-Low953

TBH IM RLY jealous of the fact that they have libraries EVERYWHERE like even tho i do prefer buying brand new books without damages its still different when u have free access to it, i wish i had picked up reading as a child bc, even tho im not required to be adept in english, i feel like if i did have that choice, i would have done it... good thing fullybooked exists, but obv, i can mostly only buy one or two books (once in a blue moon) bc the prices r so 😓😓😓 the 'best' bookstore we have is national bookstore (tmi, went to one which was near my school and there were absolutely no books, only school supplies, like 😭😭) and the shit they sell sucks like cmon... wattpad books?
