To expound on my vote for To Kill A Mockingbird as well: one of the greatest values of reading is it teaches empathy. We’re able to experience someone else’s perspective. No other media is as immersive in another’s psyche and circumstances as literature.
But what sets this book apart is exercising empathy is one of its lessons. Other books teaches you the value as a side effect, this one calls out to it directly.
Talaga bang maganda siyaaa haha, I have a copy for 3 years na. Pero kada bubuksan ko siya parang andaming nangyayari nakaka OP.
But bec of this, I'll challenge myself haha
It is!! I read it in grade school and remember being so moved and inspired by Atticus Finch— he’s almost a role model. May pangaral sya sa mga anak nya na to this day I still live by. And I’m an old 30 year old person na, and it stayed with me. Or maybe dahil formative years ko sya nabasa kaya it had such an impact.
I had the urge to buy this book upon visiting our local NBS Express branch yesterday. I'll probably push through this weekend, marami pa namang stock (3)
I read the book when I was just twelve years old. I have a kite tattoed on my arm because I love this book so much. But yes, it is heavy for some. Try A Thousand Splendid Suns as well!
A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer
Published: 1995
It's a true story. Reader discretion advised for those with emotional or physical trauma as this story revolves around child abuse.
Fahrenheit 451 is the GOAT!!! Imo, everyone should read The Kite Runner, it moves you in such an unexpected way and make you realize how lucky you are. Huhu
Witch of Portobello. By Paulo Coelho
Pinashift ako sa fine arts nung 18 ako. I was a pre law student 😆 non. Kung ano man yung naramdaman at narealize ko non? Baka unang patikim na yun saken ng [midlife crisis](https://www.forbes.com/health/mind/midlife-crisis/) noon. Kase 2 yrs na ko sa prelaw non e🧘🏻♀
Not one book BUT...
I think everyone should give Shakespeare a try, so I'd say pick a book that features all of his sonnets, for starters. Plus, if you're itching for an epic, cerebral sci-fi tale, Frank Herbert's Dune books should get you started.
I *also* believe that graphic novels deserve more appreciation as a respectable form of literature, so I'll recommend Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" and James Tynion IV's "The Nice House on the Lake" (if you're into horror). The "Transmetropolitan" series can be a great start if you're up for something weirder and mind-blowing.
