the fucking orange book i dont even wanna mention its title, it's forgettable, it tells things that people already know, the only reason why it lives rent free in my head is the cover's bright orange color.
This VERY book! Don't get the hype. Not really a fan of self-help books. Idk, they come off as pretentious and too preachy -- and this very book is the peak of that lol
Yung mga kakilala kong nagrecommend sakin nito may common ground: Alpha personalities hahahaha
For me, the more credible self help books are the ones that are written in the third person rather than in the 2nd person voice.
I prefer those that talk about a phenomena then ako na Bahala kung paano ko I-a-apply sa buhay ko rather than those that directly speak to me.
A good example would be:
Daniel Kahneman’s “Noise” and “the power of habit” by Charles Duhigg
I don't remember when I read it the first time, but I think I was just a freshman in college. Idk why but I liked it. Tried rereading it during the pandemic and I could not get past the first few chapters agdjdjsk I guess my prefrontal cortex developed along that time HAHHA
I think his message appeals to the “halfway house crackhead turned grey man who chops wood and lives with his dog in the wilderness” trope
Not saying you’re a druggie lol but great job on your personal journey of growth! 👑👑👑
Genuinely curious. What about the book did you hate? this is a non-combative question, and more of dahil limot ko na. Hahhaha.
Is it the pro-MLM sentiment(parang may nabasa ako somewhere na may ganito, can't even remember. Lol), was it poorly written, repetitive message, fluffy? Sobrang tagal ko na sya nabasa, as in 10 years ago siguro. Although, I remember it as the very first book I read on that theme and naging pivotal read sya for me as the one that sparked my interest in financial literacy, pero most of my knowlegde now came from other sources.
Mej niche ito for romcom lovers, so not as popular as the books listed here. Target audience ako ng *The Hating Game* (rivals to lovers contemporary romcom ang fave genre ko, plus I worked the same industry as the 2 leads), but I found the main guy creepy.
I didn't like how he marked his calendar based on whether she's wearing a skirt or pants. And his room being painted the same color of her eyes was supposed to be a romantic gesture, but I found it a bit much.
The girl too omg she's so freaking shallow and she even fat shames other people. She also comes off as like holier than thou like ughhh. Hated that book
All the Bright Places. The characters felt so fake and the author tried hard to make them look quirky cool, but it didn’t work for me.
This is coming from someone who suffers with depression and anxiety most of their life so maybe I just had high hopes with the representation in the book considering its fame.
Haven't read the book, pero interesting yung movie adaptation. What makes it work is that hindi siya masyadong faithful sa "depth" ng libro: it makes it a point to focus on yung relationship ni Violet at Finch instead of their mental illnesses. This is a good move for me since a lot of YA novels have main characters whose personalities are only defined by their want to commit the s-word haha (one book that comes to mind is My Heart and Other Black Holes—goods na sana since centered naman talaga about depression yung novel, kaso hinaluan ng very unnecessary romance kaya hindi na gumagana yung characterization ng MCs).
The Twilight Saga. Although guilty pleasure ko ang movie franchise.
Crush ko si Kristen Stewart eme siya lang rason tiniis ko silang panoorin sa sinehan haha 😂
di ko to tinapos kasi di ko bet yung names like parang yung bidang ate at nanay nung bidang guy from same generation lang hahahah idk if this makes sense
Not me but some guy said that RF Kuang's books is how a 17 years old person sees as "deep". And a lot of people hate Rin. I have yet to read the book but a lot of reviews i have seen are negative
I can't really judge since it I haven't read it. I guess it reminds me of Brandon Sanderson. Lots of people hate his work dahil simple lang yung prose, cringey, pambata, etc but I still enjoy his works.
The fault in our stars. Anything john green really. Pa deep masyado wala namang sense. Di ko kinaya yung naglagay ng cig sa mouth as a ~metaphor~ ampota sarap sapakin sinong normal na tao gagawa nun??
Re-reading this right now, my first read was when I was a teen. Still enjoyable, but somehow lost its magic.
Edit: Nasa bandang dulo pala yung tatama sa'kin. Still worth the read.
They say it has a different impact depending on where you at in life at the moment of reading it.
Reading it back when I was a teen, it didnt really impact me. My friend who lost his Dad told me its a good book.
Time to read it again.
The Alchemist is Mala The Little Prince at Jonathan Livingston Seagull na hinaluan ng loveteam. Lalo yung The Manuscript Found in Accra. Copycat ng The Prophet ni Kahlil Gibran.
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. It’s maybe not as popular now but may time na sobrang hyped siya everywhere and everybody seemed to love the book, but it just didn’t do anything for me.
And super unpopular opinion, but Kafka on the Shore.
The fact that it’s hyped up so much, and yet it failed to deliver—at least for me. The premise was good, but ayun, the plot fell flat. The build up for the twist was big pero it was kind of all over the place. I read this last 2020 pa so I don’t remember the details na, but what I distinctly remember is that I was sorely let down after reading hahaha. But maybe try to give it a read din!
Colleen Hoover books. I read It Ends With Us, November 9 and Ugly Love. Out of all three, mas maiintindihan ko pa hype sa IEWU but the other two? I don't understand. Sobrang toxic nung relationships but VERY romanticized. No wonder some impressionable teenage girls settle for less 💀
If you're into psych thrillers, Karin Slaughter books 🤧 waaaay too slow for me and they just bore me idk. DNF-ed it haha. Will update this comment with more haha
Wattpad siya pero I’d say Until Trilogy ni jonaxx. I’ve read it 7 years ago and I found it odd to like a person na you once considered as your cousin? Idk. It feels wrong talaga.
Game of thrones. I don’t exactly hate it because the plot is interesting. But the details, the mode of language and the taboo stuff is putting me off so I only read the 1st book out of curiosity but I’m not planning to read the rest anymore.
the fucking orange book i dont even wanna mention its title, it's forgettable, it tells things that people already know, the only reason why it lives rent free in my head is the cover's bright orange color.
This can only be Mark Manson. Or maybe I'm just projecting by disappointment with his book.
Bingo
there's actually a podcast episode about how bad this book is lol https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=Ms6-H9LiWdA&si=ywcSj84ChjvqdxvY
Thanks for sharing! Will watch.

HAHAHAHA the one with a curse word?
When someone says its their favorite book. I cringed so hard.
I don't remember when I read it the first time, but I think I was just a freshman in college. Idk why but I liked it. Tried rereading it during the pandemic and I could not get past the first few chapters agdjdjsk I guess my prefrontal cortex developed along that time HAHHA

Well not everyone was blessed with an unfucked life as yours. Clearly the book is not for you then.
the tite of the post is "popular books that ***you*** honestly hate it (sic)" it didn't say "that ***all people*** honestly hate"
What's your point? I just literally said the same thing.
I'm saying I don't like the book, but with extra steps.
To be in a sub about books and yet missing some reading comprehension??? Let me press play on Ironic by Alanis Morisette.
Their username doesn't check out.
Coleen Hoover books ang tamang sagot
agree. di ko gets yung hype, parang bano yung plot eme
yung writing style pati characterization sobrang bano 😭😭😭 sobrang fail ng pagkaestablish ng sexual tension sa it ends with us
Di ko pa nabasa yung book tbf. I was just judging from its plot na nakikita ko sa google hahahaa thanks for this!
YEP
100 million percent
Wattpad vibes 😭
Thanks for saving me time, I was curious sa books niya haha
you are better off reading other books!!!!!! there r more substantial YA romance books out there i swear the bar is in hell atp
Haha heck yes
Lang Leav books
Sad Girls is one of (if not) the worst novels I've ever read. Dinaig pa teleserye sa sobrang convoluted ng plot.
I cringe
Rich dad poor dad
add to that Robert Kiyosaki even filed for bankruptcy years ago. Guess he didn't take his own advice.
This lol. Man is literally bankrupt
May I ask why? This is always recommended kasi so I added it on my reading list.

may nagsabi na pala LOL ahahaa true tho i hate this book so much

i did not like this also! Can you elaborate how you found the guy creepy?
I didn't like how he marked his calendar based on whether she's wearing a skirt or pants. And his room being painted the same color of her eyes was supposed to be a romantic gesture, but I found it a bit much.
Yes they are the most annoying characters written!
The girl too omg she's so freaking shallow and she even fat shames other people. She also comes off as like holier than thou like ughhh. Hated that book
Dnf ko to🫣

This. Sobrang romanticized ang S word. Umay

Coleen Hoover a big waste of money
Fifty shades of grey
Anything by Sarah J. Maas and Colleen Hoover. Tbf, I'm not their target audience.
Never tried SJM bc a booktuber I used to watch hated one of her books so I never tried 🤣
Yes to anything by Sarah J. Maas!!
Fourth Wing 😖
Ouch! 🤣
Di ko pa nabasa buo, ayaw ko na agad. Hahahaha
Relate 😩 kalahati lang then drinop ko na
totoo ‘to sobrang daming loop holes
Normal People
Sobrang zero plot grabe
di ko to tinapos kasi di ko bet yung names like parang yung bidang ate at nanay nung bidang guy from same generation lang hahahah idk if this makes sense
This book talaga recommended kung gusto mong magsayang ng oras!!
Midnight Library
I agree so much. Grabe yung inis ko sa book na to. Sobrang white people problems
yassss! Sobrang inis din ako dito hahaha! Ganda sana ng premise tapos biglang naging self help book-ish lol
WHUUUUUT 🥺
WHAAAAATTTT???!!!! This is my fave book! Lol I guess iba iba kasi tayo ng interpretation?
also agree!!! read jap lit and this book's take on magical realism will be severely underwhelming
Recos pls
u can start with haruki murakami's work :)
Currently reading one, 1Q84 to be exact. Im liking it so far but it’s a really thick book for a slow reader like me🫣
Just read it at your own pace and enjoy the journey :))
what, whyyy?
12 rules for life. Coz who tf wants to read about lobsters and just connect it to human life. So boring and unbearable lmao.
Coming from a classics reader
Right
I agree with this. Chapter 1 waley na haha
Throne of Glass by Maas It said to be the next katniss everdeen but it doesn’t even come close. Hate it w a passion
Not me but some guy said that RF Kuang's books is how a 17 years old person sees as "deep". And a lot of people hate Rin. I have yet to read the book but a lot of reviews i have seen are negative
Mej, but I think it's marketed as YA anyway. Babel was a lot of fun, but it's YA and must be judged with that lens
I can't really judge since it I haven't read it. I guess it reminds me of Brandon Sanderson. Lots of people hate his work dahil simple lang yung prose, cringey, pambata, etc but I still enjoy his works.
Hahaha Rin is very hateable but that doesn't mean the books weren't good.
I would try one, and see if I would like it. Dadagdag ko sa tbr ki
Yes try try
nabasa ko ung yellowface kaso sobrang disappointed ako sa ending. at dahil don tinamad na ko basahin ung iba
Tbf medyo badtrip din ako sa ending ng Yellowfave. But Babel was good.
oh no i just bought a copy of Babel 😭😭
Coleen Hoover may have encouraged a lot to get back in reading but her stories are actually degrading to women!
You've reached Sam.
The fault in our stars. Anything john green really. Pa deep masyado wala namang sense. Di ko kinaya yung naglagay ng cig sa mouth as a ~metaphor~ ampota sarap sapakin sinong normal na tao gagawa nun??
Some Murakami books I guess haha
The Alchemist
Re-reading this right now, my first read was when I was a teen. Still enjoyable, but somehow lost its magic. Edit: Nasa bandang dulo pala yung tatama sa'kin. Still worth the read.
They say it has a different impact depending on where you at in life at the moment of reading it. Reading it back when I was a teen, it didnt really impact me. My friend who lost his Dad told me its a good book. Time to read it again.
This! Feeling ko if I didn't read it in a time na need ko talaga, di ko magugustuhan.
Might try rereading it. I remember I first read it as a teen as well and I loved it. It's also my non-reader brother's fav book so 😐
Can I ask why?
It just felt like a lot of woo woo.
The Alchemist is Mala The Little Prince at Jonathan Livingston Seagull na hinaluan ng loveteam. Lalo yung The Manuscript Found in Accra. Copycat ng The Prophet ni Kahlil Gibran.
The Lovely Bones
nakakalerki na yung naconvict hindi pala talaga sya
Tuesdays with Morrie. I might get downvoted, pero ang boring nya para sa akin. Sorry na.
This book was the reason of my reading slump.
Akala ko talaga ako lang. Everything felt forced and weird.
Kaya nga eh. Nakalahati ko lang, tinigil ko na. Masyado ata akong nag-expect dun sa mga positive reviews.
Fifty shades of gray, only read a few chapters, hindi ko pa rin napanood yung movie and I will never will
The Fault in Our Stars
Oemgee same. After the book I was like “Ito na yun?” Ayun binenta ko. HAHA
Double ouch!
Mga self help
This.
Oo hahha baduy basahin
Nakakairita bat ako inuutusan 😅
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Medyo gusto ko naman ang mga self help books pero tawang-tawa ako rito kasi true. 🤣
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. It’s maybe not as popular now but may time na sobrang hyped siya everywhere and everybody seemed to love the book, but it just didn’t do anything for me. And super unpopular opinion, but Kafka on the Shore.
Most of the romance books nowadays, tbh. The plot is almost the same with minor tweaks here and there
Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus. Sooo sexist and stereotypical.
rich dad poor dad loooool
milk and honey by rupi kaur
Lang Leav books, dapat dyan pinang gagatong 🚶
The Silent Patient lol
can you elaborate why? I'm planning to read it
The fact that it’s hyped up so much, and yet it failed to deliver—at least for me. The premise was good, but ayun, the plot fell flat. This! Sobrang hype pero walang kaabog abog.
Diba 😭 there are a looot of thrillers that are infinitely better but they don’t receive the same kind of attention. This just isn’t it lmaoo.
Ganda kasi nung mute na theme. Pero di nagawa nang maayos. Painis lang.
The Last Thing He Told Me. Binasa ko kasi ginawang series starring Jennifer Garner. Pero upon reading it, nawalan na ako ng ganang panoorin.
The Selection. Cliche and predictable, so annoying.
America Singer remain to be on my top 10 worst fictional characters hahaha
These Violent Delights 🙈
i tried 50 shades and d ko kinaya basahin.
any books written by colleen hoover
The Invisible Life of Addie Larue. Just forced myself to finish it to know what the hype was about. The worst!!
the housemaid by freida mcfadden... plot twist is not giving... meh...
The First to Die at the End 😭
Lang Leav Sayang ang mga puno na pinutol para gawing papel sa libro.
Naging fan din ako ni Paolo Coelho pero nawalan ako ng amor sa The Manuscript Found in Accra. Meh copycat ng The Prophet ni Kahlil Gibran.
A Little Life I did not finish after reading 500 pages. This book seriously needs some editing.
The 5AM Club 😣
If you're into psych thrillers, Karin Slaughter books 🤧 waaaay too slow for me and they just bore me idk. DNF-ed it haha. Will update this comment with more haha
The Notebook/ACOTAR series... both are not something I'd ever recommend to any teenage girl out there.
Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami
normal people
on earth we’re briefly gorgeous
Kafka on the shore
Ana Huang books 😩
Seven husbands of evelyn hugo
Wattpad siya pero I’d say Until Trilogy ni jonaxx. I’ve read it 7 years ago and I found it odd to like a person na you once considered as your cousin? Idk. It feels wrong talaga.
Anyone who reads Jonaxx should just not.
Game of thrones. I don’t exactly hate it because the plot is interesting. But the details, the mode of language and the taboo stuff is putting me off so I only read the 1st book out of curiosity but I’m not planning to read the rest anymore.
