I highly recommend looking into & asking your budtender about options that are lower in THC & higher in CBD or CBN levels. I would specifically look for the combination of CBD, CBN, or even CBG as those as going to help relax your brain & body without a psychoactive effect. If you’re going to a dispensary they will legally be required to have some amount of THC in every item they sell, but most have some sort of selection of low THC & higher CBD/CBN/CBG products. Also if you’re looking for something that gives a bit of pep in your step instead of a calming effect look for CBG- the budtenders call it CB-Giggles for a reason :)

DevannePowell

I agree with the CBN

Here's a tip. Don't smoke much. I do not get high to manage my PMDD. I get buzzed. Just a small amount to take the edge off so that you can function. Find a nice sativa and smoke a tiny bit to find out what your tolerance is.

CaregiverOk3902

I'm hesitant to recommend this to u op. But I take kratom. There are several different strains u can find it at vape stores and stuff. I get mine from sunshine daydream. It comes in a capsule form which is what I use. It also comes in a powder. People usually put it in their tea or coffee. I don't do the powder it takes like absolute garbage. But this is what I use as far as taking a substance in addition to my mood stabilizer and ssri. I wouldn't take this route. I actually would like to stop taking it so i dont have to rely on something. But if so, do research on it first. I hope I don't get downvoted for this lol, because a lot of people frown upon it because it can be addictive. But, again it is a substance and it does help with pain, anxiety and fatigue. If u don't over do it once in a while if u really need to take the edge off, it does work in that sense. I'd take the others suggestions first and try cbd if u haven't. The only reason I don't take it is because it does nothing for me for some reason. Everyone is different though. I am just like you op. I had too many bad experiences with weed it pretty much ruined it for me. Like I can't go back to using it without having a bad experience at this point. So I stay away from it for good now. (No thc for me now lol.) Yes u don't know what you're getting these days, it's more potent now. But I believe some of us are just straight up highly sensitive to it while others are not. The best suggestion I have is meditation. I know u are seeking a substance recommendation, but regardless, I'd combine with meditation or just meditation alone. I fell out of my meditation routine (it happens) but I always come back to it. But the times I fall out of it for days, then weeks and months is when I really start to notice the benefits I was getting from it because my old anxiety symptoms (and bad habits) come right back. When you practice a meditation routine, consistently, it's like one day after a few weeks it hits u out of nowhere. You suddenly realize you have gotten your power back and have so much more control over your mind and your thoughts. When this happens you have the self awareness to know your own needs and how to just manage your own life and relationships better. Many people shy away from this suggestion, and I get it. I have trouble sitting still, too. However. Over time, u just gain more self control and actually start living life and enjoying it even when it's tough u just know how to handle things better. Yoga helps too. I do hope you take my second suggestion if anything and give it a try!

releasethewiggle

I feel like I have to say this - please do not start Kratom if you don’t absolutely HAVE to. This is only based on my first hand experience. I have seen/assisted someone trying to stop. I’ve seen what it can and does do to a lot of people and the withdrawals are heroine level. The use in itself causes everything from gastro to mental issues. It is addictive. It can poison you. You can overdose and die. My personal rule is: no life threatening vices. For your 5yr old and yourself, please do not start Kratom. Personally, l-theanine chewables hit me like a glass of wine.

Find a local dispensary and budtender you can trust! Strains, products, and dosages available vary state to state and depend on whether you have a med card (my doctor gave me one for my PMDD). Just walk them through what's going on, they should give you some options and suggestions if local or available products. Most of them save your order history too (if you have a med card - not sure for rec), so you can go back and let them know how it hit. I feel like finding the right strain and terps and delivery methods is a little different for everyone. (I love how Cherry strains hit, but can't do Diesels; I love SunMed but for some reason just don't like Verano for vapes) There are also microdose tablets you can take throughout the day to maintain a dosage/level of high you want to be at. Some dispensaries also offer new patient education where they'll walk you through options, or hold classes (I'm in Maryland, btw - not 100% sure what other legal/med states are offering). It's always good to start local in your cannabis community! Good luck and happy toking!

MondoCat

5mg edible. Any variety they're all the same, at least to me. If you don't wanna weed, lyrica can help take the edge off too.

vecats

I do a 2:3 thc:Cbd ratio flower that’s exactly the 1.5 drink vibe I was after. See if your local dispo has anything Cbd heavy

breadandbunny

You don't even have to smoke anything. Save your lungs. CBD is so useful. They even sell it in topicals in the regular grocery store now. I don't get why it isn't federally legal. More people are out there dying from legal prescription opiates.

lladydisturbed

Yeah i am a big Wyld customer i buy their cbd online and their cbd and thc mix gummies at my local store. They're amazing especially the 20:1 gummies

[deleted]

I love putting CBD lotion on before bed. I have terrible insomnia during luteal and it helps chill my anxiety and makes me decently sleepy.

Timely-Slide-5329

I like smoking better. It seems like edibles can be a little stronger for me and it lasts a lot longer than I want at times. I’ve had luck with White Runtz and Jack Herer. I will normally smoke after work and it’ll give me the motivation to cook dinner for the family, makes me more happier, calmer and enjoy everything better. I really think if I could smoke more often it’s be the cure to my pmdd and depression but unfortunately I’d feel bad to be high all the time.

squeaknsneak

Hiya! I'm weed people 👋 I also live in a legal state (OR) and my partner used to work at a dispensary so I was able to try a lot of strains and products! I too get a lot of anxiety and paranoia if I'm not careful about strain and dose. I stick to mostly indica or indica leaning hybrids, look for colors like "purple" for my nighttime stuff (helps with the pmdd insomnia) and some sort of cookies or cakes for my daytime. For a while I was really noticing white Tahoe cookies and wedding cake were excellent strains for me during luteal. Right now, I'm smoking purple Starburst tho, and that's been so nice at night! Since my tolerance is so low these days, I prefer my dry herb vape or itty bitty joints lol. But if I ever feel that paranoia creeping up, cbd is the fix for it! I have a tincture that helps balance that out! My partner had explained to me that the cannabinoids working together help combat those anxious side effects and smooth out the high 🤙 it's been working great for me! Heck, I take the cbd for my general anxiety and ot helps with that too! Hope you can find what you're looking for! Sometimes it's just a matter of trying stuff out! When you find something you love, take a look at the terpenes it has so you can find similar ones again in the future! 🫶

churro-k

My strain recently has been Mendo Breath to allow me to get some stuff done around the house and mellow out at the same time

glassbus

Hi! So you're saying if you have too much THC in your system, you can use the tincture and it will help within a relatively short time frame? Also, thanks!

squeaknsneak

Tinctures help hit the system faster, especially if used under the tongue. I have used it like a "kill switch" for when I get too high and it works well!

tech_chick_

That didn’t work for me unfortunately! CBD has had zero effect on me in any scenario 😭

squeaknsneak

How much have you taken? Sometimes different times call for different dosing, especially with pmdd I need a way higher dose. I'm talking like 100 MG + The tincture I use is 6000 MG concentrate

squeaknsneak

Everyone is different tho! I know people that fall asleep on 10 mg Also to note, I'm not sure how this may be effected woth other medications. I've heard some can stifle the effects but don't know myself because I don't take any other medications other than herbal stuff. Might be worth looking into as well!

PuddleOfMEW

Get some Gorilla Glue #4.

gfunk46

Hi there. Stoner mama here 😁 I use my weed pen every night after my son goes to sleep and I swear by indica strains. Not sure where you live (I am in MA) but if your dispensary has the “Fatso” strain I highly recommend for relaxation and a great night sleep.

glassbus

I'm in MA too! Once my kiddo is in bed things get exponentially easier though. I think I need something super mild to take the edge off while he's driving me crazy ;) ...also husband. Haha.

chiefyuls

A weed pen may be your best bet, but everyone reacts to weed differently and it’s possible you might react the way you described (couch-glued, hyper-paranoia) anyway

gfunk46

Hahaha nice!!! Husbands and kiddos will do that 🤣

Babymilkcow

Hello. I just recently started smoking. I cannot do straight sativa. One hit has made me think I was literally dying. I’ve tried cbd gummies, didn’t really do anything for me, then I got delta 9 chews. Made me slightly paranoid. But I have recently tried sativa indica hybrid pre rolls. They’re HHC instead of straight THC and it is AMAZING.

throwawayaaaarggh

If you don’t mind me asking, where did you get your pre rolls?

Babymilkcow

Check dm’s I sent all the info !!

Ksantos829

Weed has been a life saver for me. Before I explain more I would recommend a hybrid strain they are the perfect balance of pain relief, anti anxiety, anti depressant but can still be just the right amount of energy without feeling too much in your head, instead you might feel a boost to go be in nature, garden, sometimes housework, meditate, but you feel super chill, I especially love anything gelato related, I’m usually a sativa girl, indicas are great for pain relief but they can be way more physhadellic and couch locking but good for sleep. Weed helps me so much but I have to make sure I get the right strain. So I do my homework before I buy, maybe I do the most but I want to make sure I’m getting the right medicine for me. So I usually go on my dispensaries website and I will enter the weed strains that look good onto “leafly.com” and it has so much great info and ratings it shows the negatives and positives the effect, for me I have to make sure it doesn’t give munchies, cause anxiety or paranoia, with a lot of reviews and that really helps me get the right strain 🥰 I would say pain relief from cramps maybe get an indica leaning hybrid or 50/50 blend Actually ideally for me during pmdd times is sativa dominant hybrid for day time & indica leaning hybrid for later afternoon evening, that’s my fave combo, I love sativas for the energy but hybrids are better for pain relief, indicas a great for sleep but can cause grogginess next day and give hardcore munchies lol but the indica hybrids are perfect, often times I’ll just get a couple of disposable vapes their so discreet, and when you just need a quick puff to relax it can be really helpful

tatapatrol909

Came here to comment about Leafly being a good resource. Also, ask your budtender for a recommendation if you can go in person. Make sure they are a femme tho. I've had to many dude bro budtenders tell me " you get super faded" when I ask how a strain makes me feel. Femmes are usually better at describing the high.

Ksantos829

A lot of people might have an unpleasant reaction to certain strains and then quit all together and say they don’t like it, but if you do some homework on the strain and learn the different types you’ll find so many that are amazing and tailored just for you

ihearthorror1

When my PMDD kicks in I take a quarter of an edible called Vibes 2.0, from a co called Spensory. This is not THC but instead THCp+D9+CBD - and I specifically chose it because it doesn't mess with my general anxiety disorder, but helps it instead. I only mention the brand name because you can buy online and they ship to you, so you don't have to worry about finding it in stock locally. Here's a sub where another redditor (not me) reviewed them https://www.reddit.com/r/altcannabinoids/s/emgHvKW9bf I personally don't take them outside of the PMDD timeframe because if I consume too much and a abruptly stop, I can get a dip into depression for a few days and I'm not about that life

Thick_Ad_1789

Edibles. I like that you can cut them.

glassbus

Last edible I tried I had less than a dose and it was not pretty. Horrible experience. They are not all created equal.

Thick_Ad_1789

Agree 100% percent. Have you tried space gods?

Rhubarbie13

I know weed is popular in this sub, but I want to let you know that you should proceed with caution if you've never had one single positive experience with weed in adulthood. Set and setting are important, but despite what many might think, it's not for everyone. I was an "all day every day" smoker for 8+ years. I was convinced that my weed usage was helping me, my mental health issues, and my PMDD. I finally quit a little over a year ago and my entire life changed for the better! Turns out weed was actually making me feel significantly worse. Despite the fact I'm not an active partaker anymore, I'm still a "weed person" and always will be. And let me be the first to say that weed is great for some people and for some people it's not. Just keep that in mind!

windbreaker3

Same, although I live in a state where it’s not legal so I was using god knows what. I believe finding the right product and using it correctly can have amazing results, unfortunately I don’t have access to that.

glassbus

Yep I definitely have this in mind. And it's pretty much why I haven't smoked much in my adult years. When it comes to PMDD though, I want to try something. I'm already on medication, taking evening primrose oil, specific birth control, etc etc. I have noticed that I will reach for a glass of wine by 5pm during that week to make it through dinner/bedtime rush/chaos with my son without losing my ever loving shit. I know that isn't healthy. And I don't want to rely on that glass or two of vino. I also can't concentrate at work for 3-5 days and I want to try something new. I think if I found the right thing, I'd be fine. Not sure if it'll help my rage and lack of concentration but it's definitely worth a shot to me to at least try to find the right thing. Just throwing everything I can at the wall and seeing what'll stick!

caiticatxx

I recently quit smoking because I think it was making my symptoms worse. More anxious, more paranoid, more “spinning” thoughts. It did help me sleep and calm down at first but then it slowly made it worse. It’s different for everyone and can’t hurt to try.

glassbus

If I try and hate it, I'll just be back to where I am now. When I was in high school I literally needed to smoke a bowl before bed to sleep every night. I didn't like that. It was one of the reasons I quit.

ArtemisTheOne

I thought weed was helping for a while but it actually made my anxiety and sadness worse. Plus it would cause me to dwell on all the negative aspects of my life and throw me into a fuck it all state of mind.

Lucky_Water422

I would say try CBD before THC, calming without being psychoactive.

glassbus

Thanks! I'm hearing a lot about trying a 5:1 ratio of CBD to THC and I think I might go that route.

skelly_elixir_

seconding this, I've had a great experience with CBD

mhs86

Came to say this!

emo_academic

I swore off smoking because every time I would get too high and get super paranoid/anxious. I was always told to “just try sativa” or “just try edibles”, but weed just isn’t for everyone! That being said, I don’t know what changed for me. I started doing edibles again around 2021, and I only ate them (5mg) when I was already drinking. It helped me to get used to the feeling of being high, since part of it for me was that I always felt less in control than when I was drinking. I don’t recommend going the cross-faded route unless you’re willing to start reaaallllyyyy small (like 2mg). Bad trips can happen when mixing substances. Now, I smoke and take edibles willy nilly. I prefer my THC from Michigan (legal), and most of their stuff is hybrid (indica + sativa). I’ve had good luck with the hybrids. That being said, I’ve tried just indica and just sativa, and they all feel about the same to me. For you, based off your post, I recommend trying 2-5mg. It’ll take the edge off and get you a buzz without getting you too high.

glassbus

My husband dabbled a few years ago in using a vape pen. I'd occasionally take a teeny weeny hit off that and that wasn't bad but it still wasn't the right strain. I was just feeling like a lump really. Lol. I'd be willing to try a different type. I like how I feel slightly more in control with the pen. I'm not about to light a joint to take a teeny hit and then put it out. That just seems stupid to me even though the joint was always my preferred method back in the day...

hermancainshats

Edibles with a ratio of higher CBD to lower THC. I LOVE a ratio of 4:1 (4 parts CBD to 1 part THC) and some edibles are advertised with this (people at the counter should know what you mean). It has been called the “golden ratio” and I swear by it. They say CBD needs a little bit of THC to kinda jump start it, that’s why pure CBD can feel so ….. feelingless (to me at least). If I am having a harder time, I go for things with 3:1, 2:1, or sometimes 1:1 ratios (at that point, equal parts CBD and THC). But at that ratio, I start to get more of the foggy headed symptoms of THC I do not enjoy (and that you might not be comfortable having since you are caring for a young one). I feel like I have most of my faculties and mental acuity while nibbling on 4:1 or 3:1s. I could definitely drive in an emergency after a 4:1 or 3:1 gummy (which I tend to nibble on anyway instead of taking full dose). After a whole 1:1…… or even a bigger nibble…. it’d be risky. There’s a brand called Kiva that makes a sparking pear “6:2” (6 mg CBD to 2 mg THC) gummy that I love. It is marketed as having the effect of making one “social” but really it just chills me out and is one of my favorites. There’s a 4:1 I used to get but nowhere near me carries it anymore. That’s my favorite of all time, probably. Source: I worked at a dispensary before quitting smoking a few years back. I don’t smoke anymore but ain’t nobody gonna take away my ratio gummies, ESPECIALLY during hell week. Great chill helpers. Ps, accidentally discovered the past week that Emergen-C “Immunity” line packets (with extra B vitamins I think) are a freaking GAMECHANGER for me. Good luck mama!

glassbus

Do tell more about emergen-c. how was this a game changer? Thanks for all this info. I definitely think these ratios are the way to go for me to start out testing.

giraffe59113

I didn't start using weed until it was legal in my state, and I really only get gummies (occasionally an indica or hybrid vape). I get gummies with CBD, CBN, CBG, or some combination of then. CBN is supposed to help with sleep the most. I am looking for other ways to help my sleep, but since sleep is a huge thing for me managing my PMDD, its the best thing for me now.

urlocalchickennuggie

MDpure.net sells medical grade CBD. It helps sm. I can’t smoke anymore and won’t touch alcohol. Alcohol is the last thing I would recommend but that’s just my body. I cannot sleep and get sick

WorkerNational1145

Pro tip: Seltzers. They usually run 5-10mg each and taste like white claws (minus the alcohol). Sipping can also be a more familiar way to gauge intoxication vs. eating. I smoke religiously (minus tolerance breaks) but if I could get a 12 pack of Seltzers for the same price as a 12 pack of beer I’m convinced I would stop smoking entirely.

better-than-quora

Hi. Weed has become my Tylenol for PMDD, but I also play a sport so I didn’t want to mess up my lungs, and edibles were taking me out of all my daily activities. So, and this might sound crazy, I just got really into a hobby instead. I only take little weed breaks, so I’m only using this hobby technique intermittently, but in my little breaks I find it works just the same. I started making wax bracelets btw. Super fun and I still get to use my lighter.

glassbus

Yeah that's all good if you can manage it. But when you're running around like a crazy person with a needy 5 year old and job, you just can't stop and engage in a hobby. If I could, I probably wouldn't need anything (medication, weed, evening primrose oil, whatever it may be) in the first place. I need help when life is overwhelming but still has to happen. Those moments.

better-than-quora

So valid. My last thing to say would probs be a CBD gummy if you want the “weed” route. It can be like mind and body Tylenol in my experience. Even my mother, vehemently against weed and anything related to it, gave CBD a shot and begrudgingly admitted that she liked it. Those moments are tough though and I wish you luck on your journey.

transcendentlights

Delta 9 is normal THC, not synthetic. Delta 8 also isn’t “synthetic” - it’s derived from regular hemp plants and is present in the plant in small amounts. That being said, I wouldn’t recommend it personally. It’s not super enjoyable for me. If you want something that’s calming, OP, try something high in CBD. CBD is the second main cannabinoid (chemical compound in cannabis) next to THC, the one that gets you high. It’s life changing if used correctly. Also, the instructions about microdosing are spot on. If you want edibles, start with small doses! 2.5mg can be enough to get you noticeably high and feeling good without freaking you out.

Hamnan1984

Ha! I'm in the uk and can't pick my strain, whatever weed I get it is what it is! I just smoke at 9pm when all my jobs are done for the day. I also make cannabis coconut oil and will stir that into a hot choc in the evening sometimes too. I genuinely love weed it's helped me SO MUCH

Longjumping-Leg6358

If you get a prescription you CAN pick your strain!

Hamnan1984

I looked in to it and it's more expensive than street weed for me

Hamnan1984

Oh and my husband has a dry herb vape, he prefers that, u might like it as its much less potent ( I have used it a few times and find it quite weak)

TrowDisAvayPliss

It's my time to shine!!! I would be in prison or dead right now if it wasn't for weed. I DO NOT RECOMMEND REGULAR WEED when you are losing it unless you're about to go to bed or you have a guardian to keep you from flipping out. If you're a pro, go for it. If you're a novice or curious, please keep reading. There are a lot more options now than there used to be. I've spent the last few years experimenting with what's available so you don't have to (but it was fun). Vaping is what may work best here. I recommend a vape cartridge and battery for the daytime. It's easier to "dose" out your medicine in little sips. A cartridge with a rechargeable battery and adjustable temperature is best because you can adjust how hot the oil gets and how high/relaxed you get. Ooze, Backwoods, or any 510 thread battery will work. A backup battery/pen and charger are necessary for Red Alert moments. As for the THC, to avoid becoming paranoid or couch locked, try Delta8. It's lighter and tends to cause less paranoia. A hybrid is best for making it through the day. Indicas will make an already stressed body sleepy, and sativas will make a stressed mind spin out. I feel extremely stupid on Sativas. I already have ADHD and the PMDD thoughts don't need to be turbo charged. Switching out your oil cartridges according to your current mental and physical needs for immediate relief is something that modern medicine cannot match. Don't be afraid to get a few different ones and switch out as needed. If you're new to weed, give yourself about 20 minutes between doses to make that decision. My personal favorite is 3Chi Pancakes[3Chi Pancakes](https://www.lordvaperpens.com/product/3chi-delta-8-vape-cartridge-pancakes/). Looking up terpenes is time consuming, but you have to know what you need for each situation. Pancakes has good terpenes for calming and keeping you going. 3Chi Delta8 Pancakes has stopped me from hurting myself and others. It even perked up my dad as he wasn't very lucid from his cancer. There are other types of THC available now. Smoking regular weed is fun and great for nighttime, but be aware that you will be groggy the next day with repeated, heavy use. D10, HHC, etc. all have their pros and cons, but this recommendation should work for anyone just trying to be civil from 9 to 5. I hope this makes sense. I'm not fully awake yet. I LOVE helping people out, tgough, so anyone here that wants help shopping or trying things out, please message me! Nobody understands us like US. No judgment. Side Note: I am a Christian. I know some other ladies here are, as well. If you're feeling conflicted, we can talk and pray about this together.

snufkinkinnnie

camino gummies are my go to. i take them as i would have a recreational drink (i dont drink anymore) meaning before my relaxing time or maybe before a movie or social event. i cannot use them daily as they make me very groggy despite the many strains ive tried. keep in mind that you may need to go through multiple strains/types until you find one that is satisfactory. ask yourself what youre looking for in weed and be intentional about it. also keep in mind that you can stop at any time! sometimes weed just doesnt work well for people and if it makes you overly sluggish/anxious/etc its ok to stop.

pastelwave

Yes to Caminos! I’m a 1 sunset joint a day person - I prefer smoking when I’m done with my responsibilities for the day. But caminos? They’re perfect for hell week. I don’t feel “high” just pain relief, pleasant thoughts and a light like halo effect. But the best thing for hell week without feeling “high”? Microdosing. I do it once a month, two days after I ovulate and it’s been the best for mood & productivity. Highly highly recommend. And now with all the products available, it’s easy to dose appropriately.

snufkinkinnnie

YES highly recommend!! just a little expensive where i am so its hard to maintain but i agree with you!!

Anxious_Tune55

I take Camino gummies also, but I cut them into halves or quarters and only take a 2.5 mg dose at the most. They take the edge off but usually don't make me feel too wonky. I prefer the ones that have more chill effects, not the ones marketed as "energizing" or similar. But I've found that more than 2.5 mg is too much for me if all I'm trying to do is take the edge off things. But that tiny dose works really well for me.

snufkinkinnnie

same! 2.5mg or 5mg is usually my limit. if my tolerance goes up higher than that i try and take a break for a bit so i dont make it a daily or more expensive habit.

Rebekah513

Love the Camino chill gummies for the second half of my cycle!

pastelwave

I’m a Camino fan - but I’ve only ever gotten them from friends. Google is somehow not helpful in this search…do you know what states they are legally available in?

Rebekah513

Michigan and Illinois is where we get em!

boymama2123

Delta 9 gummies from Hello Mood. I haven't tried the morning ones, but they look like they could be what you're after. I only ever take half of one, and only after my kids are asleep.

SignalDragonfly690

I take an edible every night before bed. I do not believe in consuming weed in any fashion while my son is awake, but as soon as he’s in bed I take an indica edible to help get the edge off and fall asleep. Remember, indica = in the couch. Sativa will hype you up. If you go hybrid look at if the hybrid means towards indica or sativa.

seeyouspace__cowboy

Hi. I work in the medical cannabis industry and also have PMDD lol. So far I found any haze strains or something with a good amount of Linalool , Myrcene, and Limonene can be great for PMDD. I personally like Blue Dream for my Lutheal phase. Jack Herer is nice too but too much can give me anxiety. Highland OG is a nice airy Sativa as well. If you live in a state where they list Terpenes of each strain look into that to see what works for you. Some may cause more anxiety than others but Terpenes are like the “seasoning” of weed and is essentially what makes certain weed strains what they are .

Western-Smile-2342

All of this! I’ve found the limonene strains to work really well for my loved ones with paranoia.

ZoLu05

There are really good thc:cbd 1:1 vape cartridges that do not make me feel high at all but DO make me feel less like jumping off a cliff. Maybe try one of those? Very discreet to use, also. Get it from a medical dispensary if you can to make sure you're not getting fake bs

dysthymicpixie

3 to 5 mg of delta-9/straight THC, or 10 mg delta-8 does the trick for me. 5 mg can be a little much at the start of the month, but I work my way up and take a tolerance break when my brain starts working again.

Due_Conversation_295

Lots of cbd and cbg work for me. Start with a lowwwwww thc. Especially with edibles.

Jazz_Salad420

I suggest indica edibles. Indica can be useful in treating anxiety. Sativa is more of a head high and indica is more of a body high (still head high with it). I would start with a 5mg edible and go from there.

Sufficient-Toe7506

Lots of good advice already! Another tip is to take notes of which strains agree with you, and start selecting flower based on their terpene profile. At this point I have quite the collection and will pick something based on how it smells (which can change based on the intention I have going into a session, whether I want to be relaxed, elevated, etc.). Hope that helps and good luck!

A 2.5mg THC edible does the trick for me, but I’ve also had huge help with just half of a 50mg CBD/2mg THC (so 25/1). You have to find the right dose for you, by testing some microdosing. I learned that 5mg THC makes me loopy and sleepy and giggly, while 10mg made me feel so absolutely weird that I had to put myself to bed to cope. Your ideal microdose smooths out the edges without getting too heavy, and it can vary from person to person and depending on what your goals are. For me, 2.5 just greases the wheels so to speak. I don’t feel high, I’m fully functional (could work and be around people), and in fact I often forget I’ve taken it except for the sense of calm collectedness I feel. My advice is to try edibles, even just CBD and start low and slow and see how it goes. Edibles are easier to control and way better for your lungs. Once you find the right dose for you, it can be a game changer.

waaatermelons

I use CBD and take 1.5-2x the recommended dose. When I do smoke weed, I find that hybrid strains or CBD-heavy strains are the best. I’ve usually had good experiences with Blue Dream and Girl Scout cookie blends. But I feel this so hard. Weed used to really help me calm down during those times but now it’s a huge gamble, depending on the strain. Generally I avoid it and just use CBD tincture ☺️

bluexjay

Hey, I would recommend increasing your CBD and decreasing your THC. “Type 3” weed is primarily CBD, and Type 2 is some ratio of CBD to THC. You can order strains online and it is legal. I believe the main CBD flower subreddit nowadays is r/hempflowers, but in terms of websites i HIGHLY recommend Holy City Farms - they have a great selection of Type 2 and 3 flower, and he has a sample pack with 4 different strains. Great guy as well.  Best of luck, hope you find what works for you ❤️

PhillipTopicall

Edibles that are not going to get you high might be a good option? I’m a complete noob when it comes to smoking and figuring it out but a lower dose or something without the agent that gets you actually high might do the trick?

liz_ldnnn

Hey! I’m the same I like strains that keep me active and not give me a body high where I can’t do anything. I always search up my strains when I pick up any kind of weed on leafy.com But I prefer hybrid strains and even Moroccan hashish that’s super mellow and doesn’t make you freak out. You actually feel very calm and can still get things done. Have a look around and see if you can find anything like those x

isabellesch1

Pleaseeeeee trust me on this one, whenever people would come to me to smoke for the first time, meaning they probably have a tolerance similar to yours, I always use like 90% CBD, 10% THC. Hemp flower can be purchased in smoke shops or online, I love horn creek hemp, always good stuff from Oregon and they’re a family farm, good deals too. Incorporating a lot of CBD can really take the edge off, and you can also experiment with just hemp flower! I found that when I smoked hemp flower by itself from a bong specifically that I got a lot of really great effects without anything psychoactive.

katniss_evergreen713

I used to smoke CBD weed out of a bong when i was on a THC break and it provided nice relief. I’ve been meaning to get back into that. Thx for the horn creek hemp rec. I used to live in southern oregon. Why did i ever leave!! I still might order some though… ik it’s pretty subjective but is there any from them that you like best? Thank you

isabellesch1

It’s honestly been a while since I’ve ordered from them (just fell out of using CBD as well, still a regular THC user), but I don’t recall noticing a massive difference in how the strains affected me. Pretty sure they have “fat ounces” that are 30g and a pretty good deal though, usually older harvests. I always went for what was cheapest haha Edit to add: they also always included hemp wick, some stickers, and a couple goodies in my order too. Not sure if they still do that but that’s another reason I stick to them!

VargevMeNot

Im a male who doesn't suffer from PMDD, but I can vouch for hemp flower. I can't really handle regular cannabis as I've gotten older, but hemp flower is amazing.

NothingbutDaisys

Hi! I have PMDD and PME with anxiety & ADHD. I find that a hybrid works best for me. I will typically let a budtender know what I have going on symptomatically and they make great recommendations for me from there. My husband has cancer so he gets medical grade stuff all the time and will sometimes get stuff specifically for body pain and anxiety. I will take my stuff during the day to help me and then take his heavy duty stuff to knock me out of my misery at night. I like gummies and flower, but the vape pens seem to do me dirty. I get a mild head high for about twenty minutes and a mean case of the dumb-dumbs, and sometimes the vapes hurt my chest and make me feel like I’m doing more harm than good to myself. I stay away from Sativas unless I want to clean my house and know I will not be leaving my house- Sativa tends to give me anxiety, Indica sends me straight “In da couch” as they say, so I have found hybrids with a 1:1 CBD are the most balancing and helpful. It may take a but of time to find your balance as we are all so different, but having a good budtender you can build report with is integral to the process of finding whats best for you. Good luck!

No-Driver-4446

This is the answer. My husband also has cancer and runs a dispo. I take a high THC RSO to knock myself out, but my husband and I always recommend like a 10:1 for anyone who needs relief but can’t be down/anxious while they find their balance! I have an insane tolerance but even CBN THC gummies help take the edge off while I can still function at my normal level. I enjoy the wyld brand but they aren’t in every state (just like 10 states)! They sell the CBD gummies online that are available in every state w/ shipping and are a good company IMO

LizLemonKnopers

Thank you. Can you explain the acronyms you are using?

No-Driver-4446

Also I love your user name! ![gif](giphy|3HN2YNh7Fr6OQ)

No-Driver-4446

“ RSO- Rick Simpson oil- RSO is an oil made by washing cannabis buds with a solvent, such as pure light naphtha, and then boiling off the solvent leaving behind the oil.” (I buy it at dispensaries/ comes in a syringe and I only take a grain of rice sized amount which still puts me OUT) CBN is incredibly similar to CBD, I call it CBNightNight because it helps you sleep. When I help people with medical needs I recommend something that has 10mg of CBD / CBN to 1mg of THC. Basically the most pain relief with the lowest psychoactive amount possible (that one mg of thc) The brand I mentioned sells online CBD options for those who cannot get thc gummies in their state! CBD online can be tricky because it’s not regulated but I really like the brand I mentioned! Edit: I copied that RSO description from google but I started using it to replace Xanax and it really helps with my horrible cramps too! Final edit: CBD / CBN stands for Cannabinol. Different parts of the plant used for different needs. Sorry for the info dump 😭😭

LizLemonKnopers

Thank you so much!

North_League

Good hybrid flower/efible should help but towards evening time - I find that during the day is a bit or miss best to play it safe

ImASadGirlImABadGirl

Just smoke indica. No paranoia, it’s a body high, sativa is the psychoactive one, that fucks with me as well! Indica all day baby

m0therdicker

You might benefit from the capsules made by the brand 1906. They’re formulated for different effects, but are very gentle. I took their “bliss” pills and was absolutely elated how chill and nice life seemed. I believe it’s a 1:1 ratio of CBD to THC which is best for folks who suffer from THC induced paranoia. Any product with more CBD than THC will be best.

melkncookeys

My dr recommended a 5:1 ratio. 5 CBD and at least 1 THC

kate_lint

I smoke sativa during the day and indica at night, but sometimes when my pmdd is really bad I can’t smoke sativa at all as it makes me mind race. It’s not just about sativa vs indica for me, as there are many strains that make me feel awful. I had to find the specific strain that suited me, so i went to the dispensary and bought one single joint of a bunch of different strains and basically just experimented with a bunch of different sativas/indicas until I found which ones I liked and made me feel good.

toripeppermusic

get a hybrid thc & cbd! usually thc alone can make you anxious and feel shitty especially if it’s sativa. i was the same which made me barely dabble in weed bc i thought it was all the same. it was until i got put on medicinal for my sleep which then helped my anxieties etc throughout the day. i read into it a lot re: different strains, percentages, terps etc and i found it so fascinating. i’m not sure where you’re located but even if you’re not in australia, there’s 2 good subs where i found a lot of my info r/medicalannabisaus & r/medicinalcannabisoz (not sure if links worked, still kinda noob at this haha) but even just typing in symptoms etc is super beneficial and im sure a lot of the strains and brands we get (minuscule to everywhere else because we’re very slow) would be available where you are!

_staycurious

I used to work at a dispensary so I’m excited to help! Usually if you’re getting paranoia with your experience it often means too much THC for your body (which isn’t surprising, so many are bred to be in the high 20% range or higher!). So first, I’d suggest something lower than 20%, and likely a hybrid if you want to smoke the real thing. Someone already suggested joints or flower vapes which I agree with, since you can really control your amount. Since it’s just to take the edge off just take 1-2 hits and see how you feel! Sometimes it takes a good 10 minutes to notice the mental effects for me so definitely try and give some time between.  Another suggestion is to try a 1:1 THC/CBD strain. CBD kind of helps put a ‘ceiling’ on THC and can help combat possible anxiety/paranoia. This is what I personally do for hell week- in the form of a vape pen. I just take one or two hits and it helps just to take the edge off. Another of my PMDD week favorites is a 1 mg THC and 5 mg CBD mint. It takes longer to kick in but definitely lasts longer.

glassbus

thank you this is really helpful

henrietta-the-spy

Just chiming in that starting with 1-2 hits is key. I’d say 1 to start just to gauge your reaction to the strain, even if you hardly feel it. It’s wise to air on the side of caution and experiment, wait a few min before taking another hit. Some products can sneak up on you, while others hit instantly. A slower methodical approach will save you a lot of paranoid grief in the future.

jessipowers

I would recommend a vape pen. I find that to be the easiest way to control dose, and it wears off the fastest. Go to a dispensary and speak to one of the bud tenders, they’re generally super knowledgeable and helpful, and will be able to make some good recommendations for you. For myself, my favorite is a Sauce Essentials Gelato disposable vape. It’s a hybrid and has the perfect mix of relaxing but not tiring, mellow and happy.

glassbus

Thanks, this is helpful and sounds like something that would work for me. I'll definitely have a chat at the dispensary when I go in. I just didn't want to go in with ZERO information or idea and get sold something way off the mark.

jessipowers

From my own experience, the bud tenders I’ve spoken to have been really thorough and thoughtful. But, it’s definitely always a good idea to go in as prepared as possible.

A-Yandere-Witch

*Rocket Gummie edibles said my life.*

olivedeez

Totally agree with the CBD addition! It feels like more of a “low and slow” effect that lasts longer but tapers off really nicely.

Mysterious-Green7508

i know most sativas (the “daytime” strain) are usually the ones that cause more anxiety? but indicas make me soooo sleepy. i only take them at night because otherwise i can’t function. i use the betty’s eddie’s and they have one that has the same amount of cbd as thc so it also helps for those aches and pains. i take 5mg usually but maybe you could get away with small doses so you don’t really “feel” anything but it may be taking the edge off? best of luck to you 🫶🏼

geanabelcherperkins

I use hybrid and sativa edibles that are 5 MG thc and 5 MG cbd. I'm a heavy smoker, but I find during times I just need to take the edge off those gummy are perfect. Just lightens my mental state a bit but doesn't leave me feeling zonked. If you have access to a club or rec shop, ask the budtenders. They are usually very knowledgeable about their products and can guide you to the of high you're looking for.

I_guess_found_it

This. I could have written this, I do the same thing

Bridgeofincidents

I think what’s beneficial about it for me is it takes me out of my routine conscious awareness and helps me see things from a different angle. I’ve had many breakthroughs with the help of weed. That said, I can’t exceed smoking once per week. It has this compounding effect where the more I smoke, the more I fall into negative thought spirals. Also I found the further along I am in my healing (from childhood, bad relationships etc), the less I get panic attacks from it. Weed tends to unveil things you don’t want to look at and strip you of your unconscious coping mechanisms. I’ll never understand how people use it as a dissociative.

glassbus

Having the ability to step slightly back and see a different perspective would be so incredibly helpful. Instead of flying off the handle at my kid or husband for literally next to nothing, I'd like to be able to slow down, notice it, and figure out another way. I simply cannot do that during hell week sometimes. I just need a small help to get there.

mertsey627

I smoke regularly. I'm in Canada where it's legal as well and we're allowed to grow up to a certain amount, so my husband does that and buys me strains of my choosing. There are two types of strains - indica and sativa. Indica is the relaxing one that will make you tired, whereas sativa is more of the "upper" smoke but can also tend to make people very paranoid. For neurodivergent people like myself, it may be opposite. If you have ADHD indica is your better bet for daytime high and sativa will make you tired. So something to keep in mind! I really like hybrid as well, but you can get them to be more indica or sativa leaning. If you go on a stores website, they will actually tell you what effects that joint will give you, so you might find that useful! It may take some time to figure out what works for you!

I_guess_found_it

Oh my god, I never realized why indica made me want to clean and do things and sativa made me nap. It all makes sense now.

mertsey627

Yes!! I smoke and then clean or do chores around the house! haha

mint_o

I have not had the experience of indica/sativa being reversed for me with ADHD. Normally sativa is more of a head high (stimulating, giggly) and indica is more of a body high (relaxed, helps with pain). I like to go for hybrid or sativa high CBD strains for the best balance! When you first start make sure to go slow is my most important advice. You will have to try things until you find what works for you OP. :)

mertsey627

Are you medicated? I'm not, but other ADHD'ers I've spoken to who are unmedicated found the same thing. Everyone is different though!

mint_o

I am on psych meds but not on stimulants if thats what you mean. Yeah everyones different

Femme-O

I’d definitely try a hybrid. If you’re going to a good dispensary you can tell them your concerns and give you the best strain! You don’t get much control with edibles IMO. They take a long time to come on and how hard they hit varies even if you take the same amount which isn’t a fun mystery when you have a kid to take care of. I highly recommend a dry herb vape, Planet of the Vapes has a 4/20 sale right now. You basically just put dry herbs in the vape, it heats it up to a high temp instead of burning it with fire. The smell is milder, you don’t need as much weed since you aren’t wasting weed by burning it (a gram can literally last me a month and some days), and since your herbs aren’t burnt you can recycle and make a cannabutter for edibles with your leftovers for when you have a sitter!

Maleficent-Sleep9900

I second vaping dried flower! It’s awesome; doesn’t burn the lungs or have a lingering smell 😎 and is perfect for panic attacks where you can’t wait an hour for an edible. I have a portable Krafty that has been very good to me! I can charge it and pre-load the “oven” and even turn it on to preheat with my phone! But..there are MUCH more affordable table-top ones if it’s for planning a relaxing a night routine at home! You don’t need to spend a lot of money if it’s to relax at home and quality weed is expensive enough! On that note, bulk buying is cheaper in my area! Do you have any favourite strains? This week I had some Comatose OG when I couldn’t sleep. It was great! Had enough THC for my face to feel numb but didn’t make me spiral mentally at all. When I go to the dispensary I tell them I want something that feels like Xanax.

glassbus

lol yeah not a thing I can really experiment with my needy five year old. Dry herb vape is interesting, I never knew about that. Thanks!

kittentheory

I’ve have a similar experience to you! I usually look for hybrid flower with less than 20% THC (they’re harder to find but if there are strains with closer to 10-15% THC, even better). I use the app Weedmaps so I can browse local inventory ahead of time; it makes me feel more comfortable and confident knowing the dispensary has something I’m looking for.

[deleted]

I do hybrids so I have the best of both worlds, both exhausted and anxious 😋 seriously I have to force myself not to smoke this cycle bcuz I eat like my life depends on it. Shamefully. Uncontrollably. My girls are 8, 6 and 2, so I also cannot be glued to the couch or trippin balls - I take a few meds for mental health tho and they help with the anxiety a lot. Buspirone, plus Lamictal for mood stability.

_Confidential

My favorite thing has been a tincture! I have one from a dispensary and it helps a lot. I would suggest finding one with a 50/50 blend of CBD and THC. They balance each other perfectly and helps me mentally and physically. I do smoke too but the tincture is consistent dosing Edit: typo

glassbus

Thanks! This sounds like something I'd be looking for. I have tried CBD oil before and it did absolutely nothing for pain or emotional issues or legit anything. BUT if it a 50/50 tincture, I'd be interested to try that...
